Prologue: In Need Of Advice

In the brink of dawn, Fluttershy had herself feeding the animals-who she loved and cared for very much. None of the critters had awoke from thier slumber, yet they barely knew that breakfast had been already served for them. It was unusual for Fluttershy to feed the animals at such an early state of the day. And she loved serving morning meals to her animals, but today was far distinct. Fluttershy was feeling depressed-which was rare for such a kind and loving pony- her reason was as natural in a mare's life, she was in need of romance. She never was the type of pony who would search for love nor would think about it. But in this time of her life, she wanted it. Though she thought that no other stallions would be interested in her, she thought no stallion would be in any interest of shy mares. Fluttershy, however, did lots of reading on romance novels on her own time and was intrigued by them. Those were novels though, nothing but fiction they were. All of them and she had a collection of five to ten novels and she has read them all. She needed some guidance and knew where to find it. She was going to go to Twilight's library, of course there had to be some books with advice in there. Perhaps even Twilight can help her with her love craving issue.

Fluttershy checked on her final duties to have some free time to go to Twilight's library. Turns out she had nothing else to do, she fed the animals lunch, she cleaned her own and the animal's homes, she had some free time on her hooves. So she did what she told herself to do this morning. Off to Twilight's library.


Fluttershy knocked on the wooden door of the library. She waited a few a moments and then heard silent hoofsteps getting louder. The door gently opened with Twilight behind it. Fluttershy gave a small grin. "Hi Fluttershy, please come in" Twilight said. Fluttershy felt glad and trotted her way through the doorway, inside of the library. "Any reason for your acquaintance Fluttershy?" Twilight interogated. Fluttershy didn't want to reply but it was her friend, she couldn't do such thing and just ignore Twilight. So she answered,"Oh I just came to see if I could borrow a book, if you do have this type of book". Twilight raised an eyebrow to symbolize her confusion. "What type of book are you searching for?" Twilight asked walking to one of the bookshelves. "Oh uh do you have a reference book on...romance?" Fluttershy answered feeling embarassed. Twilight's eyes widened a bit in the suprising words she is hearing. "You want a book that guides you in romance, but why?" Twilight asked. "I just thought that I should find some romance and I don't know anything of it or how it works!" Fluttershy stated. Though Twilight was suprised she decided to help her kind friend. Twilight started searching for the right book by going in alphabetical order. "So wheres Spike?" Fluttershy asked trying to start a conversation. "Spikes sleeping upstairs" Twilight replied scrolling down at the shelves by letter. "Oh" Fluttershy sighed. She stood there observing how the place looks, with its books laying on the floor, wood like structure, and the sight of dust being shown in the ray of the sun coming from the top window. "P...Q...R!" Twilight whispered taking out a book from the shelf with her magic, "A chance for romance: The guide book" Twilight read on the title. She flew the book over to Fluttershy,"Hear you go Fluttershy I hope this helps". Fluttershy got a grasp of the book,"Thank you Twilight". Twilight replied with a grin.

Fluttershy headed back to cottage to read and begin a new step in her life.

A Mares Night Out

At dusk, Fluttershy was still in her studies of love with the same book Twilight had given her just a day ago. So far she had learned quite a lot about romance such as finding the one you love or what types of stallions there were. However, Fluttershy spent most of her time reading ove the chapter called flirting. She studied it hard since today was mares night out for all of her closest friends at the new club in Ponyville, House of Dj Pon-3. It was hosted by Vinyl Scratch-who was known to be one of the best Dj ponies. It was starting to dim outside, Fluttershy had to meet with her friends at Twilight's library. Closing her book, Fluttershy was disturbed by Angel tugging her mane,"What the matter Angel?" Fluttershy asked the snow-colored bunny. Angel pointed to his small stomach to show that he is hungry. "Are you hungry?" Fluttershy added. He nodded yes. FLuttershy took the responce and headed to the kitchen. She opened the fridge and grabbed a fresh picked carrot who she harvested earlier today. She out the carrot between her teeth, she then left it on the kitchen flloor for Angel to eat. "Eat up Angel, I have to go meet up with my friends" Fluttershy whispered. She headed out her front door looking back to see Angel finishing his night snack.


"Ok Spike we're going to have a mare's night, so I want you to do any other chores and then you are able to go to sleep" Twilight said to the purple dragon. Spike nodded. "Ok, shall we girls?" Twilight said. Everypony yelled in an excited frenzy, except for Fluttershy, she would usually say ataleast a 'Yay' but right now she didn't say a thing. They went out of the door and started walking to House of Dj Pon-3. Fluttershy was in the rear of the pack of close friends. Twilight noticed, she slowed down to line up with Fluttershy,"So Fluttershy is the book any help to you?" Twilight inquired. "Yes" Fluttershy answered. "What book, my dear?" Rarity suprisingly asked. "Oh its nothing Rarity" Fluttershy said. "Please tell me Fluttershy, we are the bestest of friends right?" Rarity demanded. Fluttershy stared at the ground, letting out a soft sigh,"Well Rarity, i'm trying to search for...romance". Rarity was astonished, just as Twilight was when Fluttershy told her the news. "Well thats fantastic dear Fluttershy!" Rarity announced. "Thanks Rarity" Fluttershy softly said.

The pumping of music could be heard not so far from the gang. They all gathered around the the entrance double doors. Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash pushed the door open. They saw several ponies dancing to the music, sitting and having a drink, or just hanging out. They slid thier whole bodies in there, the music roared in their ears with elevated satisfaction. Immidiately they found them a place to sit, which they did. The music suddenly stopped, with Vinyl Scratch anouncing,"Alright everypony raise your hooves way up in the air because its about to crazy!" After, a new song was pumping the entire club, everypony was dancing, shaking the flanks everywhere. "Ooo this is my jam!" Pinkie shouted moving with the rhythm of the song. "I'm digging the type of music!" Rainbow Dash added. "Woo dawgy lets rodeo!" Applejack said excitedly. And thus, the three hyper ponies went in the dance floor giving the crowd all of thier skills. The only three left of the gang was Fluttershy, Twilight, and Rarity. "Well Rarity your not going to join them?" Twilight asked. "Ugh it isn't lady like to dance how they are doing it" Rarity said staring into the group of frolicing ponies. "Also, why are you asking me this, why don't you join them?". "I need to have a talk with Fluttershy for a little" Twilight answered. Fluttershy looked at Twilight with herself cowaring back. "Why you, Can't I help Fluttershy?" Rarity beamed. "Well if it doubles the proccess of assisting Fluttershy than sure you can help". Twilight turned to Fluttershy and asked,"Well Fluttershy what had the book taught you to do first?". "It said to find a mate" Fluttershy responded. "I see, well is there any stallions you like around here" Twilight asked. "No Twilight" Fluttershy responded. "Its ok dear, you will find your true love eventually". Fluttershy just stared at the table where they were, dissapointed. "By the way Fluttershy what characterisitcs are you looking for in a stallion?" Fluttershy looked back up to Twilight and answered,"I never really thought about that, I don't even know".

"You should find a stallion who is good a kissing!" Pinkie interrupted. "You were hearing what we were talking about?" Twilight asked. "Yes and ooo you should find one who looks hot!" Pinkie shouted. Rarity rolled her eyes,"Pinkie you can't just find a stallion based on his appearance, you have to find one with a good personality". "Personality shmalitly, find one who is smoking hot! If you don't find a stallion like that you could always switch to mares!" Pinkie said. "Mares?" Fluttershy whispered. "Yeah or you can do what Rainbow Dash does" Pinkie said. "What does Rainbow Dash do?" Twilight asked. "She goes both ways, she will do a stallion or a mare!". The girls at the table were shocked, they had never heard of this before. "Why didn't you tell us before Pinkie?" Twilight said. "Well I thought you already knew" Pinkie responded. "I didn't!" Twilight said. A different song interrupted thier conversation. "Come on ponies lets stand up get our groove on!" Pinkie announced. "Well it won't hurt anypony to atleast try" Rarity said. Twilight and Rarity stood up and began following Pinkie. "Fluttershy are you going to join us?" Twilight asked the yellow pegasus. Fluttershy glared at Twilight for a few moments,"Sure" She replied.


Fluttershy entered her cottage quietly trying not to awake any sleeping animals. She released a soft sigh. After, she switched on the lights. The shine brightened up the room, something caught her eye. It was Angel standing in the hallway. Strange, he was supposed to be in bed at this time of the night. He seemed scared and nervous. Fluttershy trotted to Angel,"Is somthing wrong Angel?". Angel nodded and started to impersonate a monster to show something had scared him outside. "Are you afraid of being outside?" Fluttershy asked. He nodded again. "Well you can sleep with me tonight if you want" She said. Angel smiled and put his head against fluttershy's hoof to show he was thankful. She grabbed him and put him on her back. She then started walking upstairs to her bedroom. When she got to her room she headed to her bed where she sleeps. Placing Angel on the bed, she covered him with the blanket. She went to the other side of the bed and layed herself on it. She turned to Angel and began singing her lullaby in a soft voice.

  "Hush now, quiet now its time to lay your sleepy head. Hush now, quite now its time to go to bed"

Fluttershy is full of Bash

Morning had arose, and Fluttershy was just awaking. She wasn't very tired, though she did have a full eight perhaps even more hours of sleep. Rubbing her eyes for clear vision, she saw the radiant sun blaze through the window. Even though Fluttershy had scratched her eyes, she was still squinting and vision was some what blurry. She wondered if Angel was still with her, she turned to her bottom right and there he was positioned in a ball sound asleep. She smiled, it was sights like these that made Fluttershy have a special talent of caring and loving animals, and she loved it so. Then she realized, it was morning and that means she need to feed the animals, including Angel. She had to wake up Angel but she had to do it in a quite manor. "Angel wake up" She whispered shrugging him. Nothing happened. She tried again but with a little more force. Angel then slowly opened his small black eyes, he stood up letting out a soft adorable yawn. Fluttershy gradually giggled. "Come along Angel its time for breakfast" Fluttershy proclaimed sliding off the bed. And Angel followed. She lead Angel to the kitchen where she had a freshly picked batch of carrots. With familiar actions, she took out a carrot from the fridge and placed it next to Angel. Instantly he began eating. After that was done Fluttershy went to give breakfast for the rest of her animals-which was alot of work, concerning she had many, many animals- though she loved and care for every single one.

She was done with her morning duties and had some free time. Of course, she spent it reading and learning from her book. So far she has learned how to flirt, behave, and appear. She read flirting was a pre-step to finding love, behaving was upmost important during a first date or even during the relationship, and that appearance is what the other gender mostly searches for. Unfortunately, that last one wasn't very much help to Fluttershy. She never tried standing out in public, well not as much. But if there was a stallion looking for just personality, then she would be an instant get.

Fluttershy began to grow thirsty out of all the time she spent reading. She went to her kitchen, opening the fridge she noticed there wasn't any drinks. It had been confirmed, she needed to go buy more. She went back to her book, closed it and packed up her saddle, then headed out her cottage.


In the town of Ponyville, everypony had thier works and duties to fulfill, today was busy, too busy. It really didn't matter to Fluttershy, other than trying to dodge other ponies. Then came a curvy stream of rainbow,"Rainbow Dash?" Fluttershy asked what appeared to be Rainbow Dash's left over when she flies real agile. Then a cyan-coloured pegusas appeared in front of Fluttershy,"Hey Fluttershy, whutcha up to?" Rainbow asked. "Oh i'm just getting some beverages" She replied. "Whats the ocassion?"."Nothing its just that I ran out" Fluttershy replied."Oh well thats cool I guess, also is it true?" The bright blue pony asked."Is what true?" Fluttershy asked, confused. "That your looking for romance?". "Yes I am"

"Well Fluttershy" Rainbow Dash said laying a hoof on her back,"If you can't find a stallion you could always look for a mare"

"Umm Rainbow Dash I don't go that way, or atleast not yet" Fluttershy layed out.

"Oh, well if you don't ever find a stallion come to me, i'll help you" Rainbow Dash winking, then blasting off.

Fluttershy stood there with her jaw dropped, she was shocked, what Pinkie said was true. "why would she want to date a friend?" Fluttershy thought, wondering. She removed the thought from her head and went on with her buisiness. She went to the store she always goes to, Jimm's Market. Jimm -the owner of the store- knew Fluttershy very well since she was a regular to the store.

As Fluttershy went through the entrance of the store, she would always hear the bell above her ring. Of course thats a strategy shop owners use to signal that there is a customer. And evertime it rang, it somehow always satisfied Fluttershy, maybe it was the actual melody of a simple "ring" that made her happy, perhaps it made her happy that when that bell rang she knew she was in a familiar store with a familiar face everytime.

"Aah my favorite customer, Fluttershy please come in" Jimm proclaimed.

"Hi Jimm" Fluttershy replied

"How ya' doin' sweetie" He asked, stocking groceries on the shelves.

"I'm fine, thanks for asking"

"And how are your animals?"

"They're all doing good"

"Ah guess you came here to get food for them didn't ya'?" Jimm asked.

"Actually no I didn't, I came for to buy some groceries for myself, for once"

"Ah see, well look around dear, ah re-stocked and there's new items to purchase"

"Thanks Jimm"

Fluttershy then went on to see what was actually new. She saw some familiar items from before, but then she started to notice stuff she never saw before. But then she saw somepony she never met before. "Alright Jimm i'm ready to work" The unknown stallion said. Fluttershy was amazed, she never saw such a beautiful stallion. With his bright white coat, his light green mane, and his aqua coloured eyes.

"Oh Fluttershy come meet my new employee" Jimm exclaimed

She trotted to Jimm with the mysterious stallion next to him.

"Fluttershy, this here is Bashful, he's new in town"

"Oh...hi" Fluttershy said shyfuly

"H-hi" He said cowaring back a little.

"Come on son, be a gentlecolt infront of other mares"

Bashful layed his head a little,"Sorry" he whispered to Jimm,"Hello ma'am"

"Its ok, i'm Fluttershy" she said.

Bashful felt embarassed, he didn't want to look like a fool around another mare. Fluttershy felt the same way.

"Now boy, Ah want you to start organizing these boxes of supplies in the back" Jimm demanded

"Yes sir" He said, then looking back at Fluttershy,"It was nice to meet you Fluttershy" He added moving the boxes to the back as Jimm asked him to.

"Thats a nice employee you have"

"Thanks Fluttershy, Ah reckon he's goin' to be a fine champ"

"Mhmm" She muttered. Fluttershy went back to her groceries and got what she needed. She layed the groceries on the counter. "That'd be twelve bits Fluttershy" Jimm said. Fluttershy took out an exact total of bits and put them on the counter. Jimm counted them and then put it in his money pack he always has on his side. "You'd best have a good day Fluttershy" Jimm shouted. "You too Jimm" Fluttershy answered leaving the store.

It started to get dark out, Fluttershy was inside her cottage still reading her book. She wasn't even close to being done, with only six chapters read, she still had twenty-four to go. She began thinking about the stallion she met at the store earlier. "Was he the one?" she thought. "Only one way to find out"

At The Spa

In her cottage, Fluttershy was eating breakfast. A plain muffin and some coffee was layed out on the dining table where she was sitting. By the side of that, she was reading her love guide book. It seems that all she has been doing for the past few days. She completed her to do list for today and she spent it reading. Then she remembered, she had to go to the spa with Rarity. She wasn't late, she just had forgotten what she and Rarity does two times a week. Fluttershy bookmarked where she left off in her book then closed it. After, she began heading to Rarity's boutique.

Fluttershy knocked on the front door that had a closed sign hooked to it. Then she heard a voice,"Sorry we're closed, please come later!". "Rarity its me, Fluttershy" Fluttershy yelled but not as loud. A few moments later, the door opened,"Oh, my apologies dear Fluttershy" Rarity proclaimed.

"Its ok Rarity"

"Hold on Fluttershy let me get a hat, this heat is simply dreadful" Rarity said going to her bedroom.

"Ok" Fluttershy softly replied.

As Rarity went upstairs to her bedroom, Fluttershy began to stare around the boutique. There was a shelf with lots of sewing supplies, on the small stage there was what seemed to be a finished dress and two other dresses that were still in progress. There was fabric laying around next two the blank mannequins. Then Opalescence came along, playing with her favorite toy mouse. Fluttershy somehow wanted to ignore Opalescence. After, Rarity soon came back from upstairs with a lime green sun hat with lavender flowers place on the top.

"Shall we Fluttershy?" Rarity asked opening the door.

Fluttershy responded with a nod and went out the door.


The spa door's bell above rang as Fluttershy and Rarity trotted through the door."Afternoon ladies, the usual" Rarity exclaimed. The spa girls both grinned.


"So my dear Fluttershy, how has your search for romance been?"

"Its going just fine"

"Have you find somepony you like?"

"Well there is this one stallion"

"Really?! tell me about him"

"Well his name is Bashful, he seems like a stallion who is shy around other ponies"

"You two would seem like a perfect match!"

"Thank you Rarity"

"Are you going to date him?"

"I don't know Rarity, I don't even know if he is the one"

"Oh Fluttershy, your just nervous is all"

"I am, when do you think I should...date him"

"When the time is right Fluttershy, when the time is right"


That Beautiful Mare [Bashful]

Note: This is a persprective of how Bashful feels about Fluttershy. This takes place a little bit after Fluttershy leaves Jimm's Market.

Bashful was almost finish shuffling the boxes Jimm had told him to organize, he felt great. Bashful met the most beautiful mare he has ever seen in his entire life. Though he has been with a couple of mares in his life, but this one was the foremost one he seen. When he was done, he went to Jimm to see if he had more assignments for him.

"Ok Jimm, i'm done fixing the boxes" Bashful said.

"Thats might fine Bash, now do me a favor and organize those snacks right there, some little colts came in here like a group of stallions attending a huge sale at the farmer's market"

"Hehe right" Bashful said putting the chips and such back to thier original place. As he was about to be done, he was interupted by Jimm,"So Bash tell me"

"Tell you what?"

"Fluttershy, what do ya' think of her?"

"She well seems nice"

"Indeed, kindest mare Ah ever seen, shes a shy one too"

"Really?"

"Eyup, you know, you two seem like a fine couple" Jimm said softly punching Bashful.

"Hehe..yeah"


Bashful went into his home to see his roomate cooking."Afternoon Bashful" his roomate said.

"Hey Dizzy, wutcha cooking?" Bashful replied.

"Oh just some hayburgers, learned to make him when I was just a little colt"

"They look good"

"Thanks, so hows that new job of your going?"

"Its going great!"

"Thats good, now come on burgers are done"

Bashful sat down by dinning table as Dizzy set out the plates, napkins, etc. He put the burgers on both of thier plates, the grease already started to slick down to the clear white plate.

"So Dizzy?" Bashful asked.

"Yeah Bashful"

"Today I met this mare who happened to be friends with my boss and well...I think I like her"

"Really what her name?"

"Her name is Fluttershy, probably the most gorgeus mares i've ever seen in my life!"

"Well Bashful you should ask her out"

"But i'm....shy"

"Oh come on Bashful, you've been with other mares in your life"

"But they asked me out" Bashful said instantly

"Stop being such a foal, its easy, you just go up to them and ask the question"

"What if she rejects me"

"So what? atleast you tired, and trying is good"

"Yeah your probably right"

"Of course i'm right, now finish your food cause we got to get to the club"

"Which one?"

"The one called House of Dj Pon-3"

"Are you sure? I mean we just moved here and it seems so early"

"Does it matter?"

"To me it does"

"Just come on"

"Wait, why are we eating here? Doesn't this club have food served?"

"Yeah, but I hear its expensive"

"Oh I see, your clever"

Indeed I am now lets go!"

A Stallions Night Out [Bashful]

"So, you ready for this?"

"Yeah, lets go" Bashful said pushing the door open.

Instantly they could hear the loud beat of the music while people were dancing to the rhythm. Bashful was astonished by the scenery that was upon him. He turned to Dizzy, where he pointed to a table with his head. They saw all the other tables around filled with satisfied ponies. They both sat down, and then was accompanied by a mare waitress who asked,"Can I get you two anything?". Dizzy turned to Bashful and raised both eyebrows twice. "Uhh sure i'll have a glass of sasparini" Bashful replied. Dizzy shoved Bashful gently to get his attention,"Really, sasparini?". Bashful responded by rolling his eyes to the other way. "Ugh, uhh do serve any alchohol here?" Dizzy asked the waitress. "Well yes we do" The waitress replied.

"Can I get a glass of it?"

"Sure i'll be back with it as soon as possible" The waitress said leaving.

"Really alchohol?" Bashful demanded to know.

"What, its a club what do you expect, coming from the stallion getting just plain old rootbeer"

"Hey I like it, it tastes good, better than beer"

Dizzy rolled his eyes. Bashful sighed, he then just sat there, silently. He thought about the beautiful mare he had met the first day on his job. He liked Fluttershy, he thought she was a very elegant mare. He then began to think,"Shes out of my league, there is no way she would go out with me". He sighed again.

"Whats up with you Bashful?"

"Nothing Dizzy"

"Come on Bashful you can-"

"Here are you drinks" The waitress said, interupting thier conversation.

"Thanks" Dizzy said,"So as I was saying, you can tell me anything"

"Well i've been thinking"

"About what?"

"That mare I met at work"

"Get over it for tonight, we are in a club, lets have some fun"

"Hey there cuties" A strange mare joined by another mare asked.

"Well speaking of fun" Dizzy said.

The two mares giggled,"I'm Stardust" one of them said."And i'm Rose"

"Well its nice to meet you two pretty mares" Dizzy replied.

"Do you two want to dance with us?" Stardust asked.

Dizzy turned to Bashful to see him showing an unamused look on his face. Dizzy ignored it.

"We would love to" Dizzy said walking to the dance floor with Stardust.

"How bout' you?" Rose asked Bashful.

Bashful thought for a second, he thought of what Dizzy said about loosening up. He then smiled,"Sure".

He got up and walked to the dancing crowd with Rose. After, they got in the center of the crowd and began to move to the beat. Bashful was never quite the dancer, though he did some simple moves, such as stepping a hoof side by side over and over again. Rose, however, had some serious skills. She did all sorts of moves, she jumped all around almost like how a colt would when he eats alot of sugar.

"So whats your name cutie?" Rose asked still matching the beat with her flanks.

"Names Bashful"

"Thats a nice name" Rose shouted trying to let Bashful hear with all the loud noise in the club. Bashful just grinned. Bashful then started to glare around, looking for his roomate, Dizzy. After a few moments, he found him already making out with Stardust. "Hes fast when it comes to mares" Bashful thought. Rose saw him staring past her, she turned to see the scene. "Hmph" She muttered."Your friend sure knows how to get a mare" Rose said."Yeah...he is known for that, a mares man" Bashful replied."Doesn't mean he gets all the action" Rose quickly said suprising Bashful with a kiss. Bashful was shocked, she just met this mare and now shes already sucking his lips. It was apparent that this mare was drunk. Bashful didn't do anything but stood there and let Rose take control. After, she released the kiss. She saw Bashful with a suprised face. "Did ya' like that?" Rose asked. Bashful was too shocked to even answer. She giggled softly,"Why don't we continue this in the back?" Rose asked in a seducing way. Bashful was still paralyzed to answer. "I'll take that as a yes" Rose said dragging him by the hand. Bashful and Rose passed by Dizzy and Stardust. Dizzy saw him and gave him a wink in congratulation. Rose opened the back door which led to an alley. She pushed at the wall of the club,"Now where were we" Rose said.

Bashful sat there, nervous. "Hehe...."
