The Quest for the Twilight Princess

by Gloria Beezus Rose

Chapter 1: Legand

Legand

Inside Celestia's private study her student Shining Song was reading a book on fairy tales. She was a youthful unicorn mare with a silver mane that was smooth and curled at the ends while her coat was a pale blue, asked her mentor, Celestia "I have a question, Princess. You always say that there is a truth to all legends. Why is that? It's just that it doesn't make sense to me." She said as she looked up from the book to her mentor, who smiled back. Her  pastle rainbow mane blown in an unseen wind, and her coat as white as the purest daisy.

"Do you know of the Twilight Princess?" She said looking down on her pupil with her ever loving gaze. "It's my favorite legend."

"Well of course I do! A month after the Summer Sun Celebration we have the Day of Twilight where both the sun and the moon stay in the sky the entire day!" Shining Song said shooting a questioning glare at her mentor for asking suck a stupid question. "It's a pretty festival and all but I don't know why you like it so much."

"Do you know how manny years this festival has existed? Around ten thousand years," Celestia asked looking away from her student and out the window looking and the sun. Sadness twanged through her heart. While so many forget, we remember. "Do you know the legend of the great dragon that guards harmony? Spike?"

"Yes, just like how I know about the festival of Twilight."

"Let me tell you about both of them, without bieng, you being sarcastic with your comments" Celestia laughed as she situated herself on her pillow. She turned bright red and the radiant alicorn continued her sentence, with a smile,  "Not how the ponies remember them but how I remember them."

"You've told me the tale, at least, a thousand times!" She said but getting ready for the tale the Princes was about to tell her.  There was no stopping her anyway, "I guess it would be nice to hear still."

Celestia smiled and then cleared her throat, "This will be different that all the times I've told you before. Because what I am telling you is not a lie, but the truth." Only her and luna know the truth about Twilight. "Ten thousand years ago there was a unicorn filly named Twilight Sparkle. She spent most of her childhood studying magic so she could get into my gifted school for unicorns. When the day of the entrance exam came she almost failed. Last minute a sonic-rain-boom caused a surge of magical energy that was inside her all along. Twilight realised it.  She passed her test, which was to hatch a dragon egg. She named  him Spike. When she passed her test she became my most faithful student, like you," Celestia's stoic face suddenly let a sad look replace it. It was quickly overcome by Celestia's stoic expression once again, "She spent most of her life under my tutelage, one day I sent her to Ponyvile to oversee the preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration. While she was overseeing preparations she met five friends. Rarity, Rainbow Dash, FlutterShy, Pinkie Pie and last but not least Apple Jack. She along with her friends freed my sister Luna, from nightmare moon."

"Wait? who's Nightmare moon? What does your sister have to do with this?" Shining Song asked shooting a questioning glance at princess Celestia. Which in turn she cleared her through.

"I will save that story for another time.  They were the elements of harmony. She went on many adventures with her friends save Equestria countless times. I made her an alicorn princess. The stained glass windows with a purple alicorn or a purple unicorn, those are pictures of the Twilight Princess. I knew her as Princess Twilight Sparkle, Twilight my friend, and-and she was like a daughter to me." At this point, Celestia shedding tears left and right. "Class is dismissed."

Shining Stare left with her book seeing Luna right outside the door. Looked at her with a scowl, and said "Is my sister Crying? If you had anything to do with this so help me," Luna was cut short with sister calling her name and as she walked into the study she glared behind her and Celestia's student.

Shiningh Star stared up at the ceiling while she was in her bed waiting for sleep's grip to take hold of her. She couldn't help but think about what happened that day. Celestia has never really lied to her,  so it has to be true. So are the Twilight Princess and The Dragon of harmony real? Questions were racing circles around her head. Slowly but surely she fell asleep. But she tossed and turned in her sleep until princess of the night came to sooth her nightmares.

She opened her eyes to see the sun blinding her, there was no going back to bed now. She sat up and looked around. Slowly Shining  Song stretched and got out of bed. She brushed her hair and then left to the kitchen to get her breakfast, bringing her a book to read. She meandered the labyrinth of halls until she reached her destination.  The mare used her magic to open the door to the dining hall, Shining Song walked in to see Celestia and luna sitting there, instead of their private dining hall.

"Good morning!" Celestia said looking up from her cup of tea continuing her pleasantries, "I hope you slept well."

"I did how did you sleep Princess?" Song said giving a short bow before she continued, "Is the Legend really true Princess?"

"Giving into curiosity so soon? I thought you would've waited to at least when we finished breakfast" Celestia said before she took another sip of her tea her jasmine tea. "Anyway yes every last word."

"Sister, you should have told me you were going to tell her," deadpanning a look towards her sister.

"She was cursed 3 years after her coronation, and the draconequus who did so left clues all across Equestria, for us to find her again. This is a sad tale and I do not see a happy ending in the near future."

"I could look for the Twilight Princess!" Song said with a confidence, "It would be no sweat!"

"I'm afraid you can't the last student I sent died, well he was presumed dead. I would not give you the same task it's too dangerous."

"What do you mean it is too dangerous. You're the best teacher in the whole universe I couldn't fail under your guidance!"

"Just don't want you to get hurt."

"Let's eat breakfast!" Luna said digging into the plate in front of her, forgetting her manners. Bringing and an end to the soon to be an  argument. All was well until breakfast was over.
