The Story of the Two Sisters: Vinyl Scratch & Octavia Melody
Chapter 1: This is their story
Vinyl threw off the frilly white dress that she'd been forced to wear. She wasn't going to go through this, no sir! She didn't want to be bridesmaid for her new stepmother Pink Pansy. She couldn't her, she was like a dishcloth full of holes, useless. And how dare Papa marry her so soon after Mama had died.
It was a year, surely he couldn't have got over it that quickly? Well, if he did, then he was completely heartless.
"Oh Mama," wept Vinyl, "Why did you go? Why did you leave me? Why, oh, why?" She took a cushion off her bed and flung it across the room. She decided that whether her parents liked it or not, she wouldn't be the bridesmaid. She wasn't gonna please Pink Pansy and have her silly, frilly 'new Grandma' fuss and coo over her like a pigeon.
Vinyl pulled the dress over head, breaking the zip. She didn't care, why should she? It was all their fault anyway. She threw her dress at a vase on her night table, knocking it over and spilling water and roses all over her floor. Good, she didn't like those roses. PInk Pansy had got them for her.
And another thing, from now on, she was gonna have to call her new stepmother Mama. Papa had insisted on it. He said that would make her even more part of the family. Well, Vinyl hadn't spoken at all to anyone except herself since she was told that Papa was remarrying, so there was no way that she was gonna speak to anyone now!
Just then, Pink Pansy with a strong smell of very expensive Canterlot perfume. Vinyl wrinkled her nose in disgust. Pink Pansy looked a right mess. Her dress was too long and was made out of white satin, velvet and silk, the materials heaped on top of each other. It was a hot sunny day for crying out loud! She had three large pearl and diamond necklaces and two massive Ruby and emerald bracelets on each hoof. She was also wearing these tiny glass slippers, which looked like they were made out of sugar. And to top it all off, she was wearing a thick woolly cardigan over her dress, because she said that she felt a little chilly.
"Oh, darling," cooed Pink Pansy, stroking Vinyl's scruffy, spiky Mane. "What did you do to your dress. Was it too hot for you. Now, now darling, no need to worry, Mama will get you a new one!"
Vinyl groaned. Pink Pansy had this terrible habit of speaking to everyone like they were babies, even get fiancée! Can you understand now why Vinyl didn't like her? She was never genuine in anything she said, had no opinion on anything, and constantly worried about the fashion trends back in Canterlot. She wondered yet again why Papa was marrying her, because once he had confessed to his daughter that he found his fiancee annoying, but she was so sweet and endearing, that he couldn't break her heart. Vinyl thought that she was more like a trodden on spaniel.
"There's no need to trouble yourself," came Papa's stern voice. He standing in the doorway watching Vinyl and Pink. "She's just causing trouble as usual. Now don't sulk young lady! I decide long ago that it's be best that you don't Cause any havoc!"
Pink swept out of the room, closing the door, giving Vinyl a sickening smile. Vinyl jumped up and looked out of her bedroom window which was above her bed. The wedding was being held in her front garden and she had a great view of what was going on. Pink still had her cardigan on, would you believe it!
Vinyl sighed. She wasn't wanted, it had just sunk in. What could she do? She couldn't stay and ensure Pink's sickly smiles and perfume or Papa's reprimands. She had to leave, go somewhere, but where? Then she had an idea. She'd go a city, she didn't care which one and study music. She was old enough and had applied to all the best music schools in Equestria. She would become a famous musician and boy, wouldn't Pink be jealous! In her heart of hearts, she knew that it was wrong to leave without notice, but, she knew that being in the same house as Pink was like walking on eggshells. So, she decided to go.
She got her rucksack out of her wardrobe and packed her money, pyjamas, flashlight, toiletries and some stationary. She packed her camping gear seperately, for she didn't have enough money for a train ticket and it take many nights of sleeping in auddy field before she got to the city.
The house was deserted. She could hear them making their vows and some distant relative weeping. Why do ponies cry at weddings? Anyway, she went into the kitchen and saw all the delicious food for the reception after. She took four mushroom vol au vents, one large vegetable quiche, three large chocolate cupcakes and aten small bottles of lemonade, water, orange juice, cranberry juice and grape juice, two of each. She was ready to go!
Vinyl wandered on lonely roads for three days to reach the city of Canterlot, barely stopping except to eat and sleep. She had run out of food and was starving. By the time she had reached the city, her stomach was growling and she was sooo tired. She went to the best music school in Canterlot, filled out an application form, but alas, she couldn't enrol for she was too young, even she auditioned as well, and exhibited much talent.
Despondent and dejected, she tramped along the streets. She was starving and tired, but she couldn't go home, she had to make a life for herself here. She stopped outside an orphanage. Surely they wouldn't reject a filly, who felt that she was an orphan, who was starving hungry and exhausted? They didn't. She'd knocked feebly on the door, they immediately it and pulled her inside. They gave her hot food, she thought it was soup, she wasn't sure, and hot crusty brown loaves and led her upstairs. They let her have a bed and then they put her to bed. Never in her life did she sleep so soundly then that night.
Vinyl thought that she'donly be staying for a few days then leaving, but she was mistaken
Since Vinyl didn't speak or had given her name, Ms Toffee Pudding came to the conclusion that she was an orphan and made her stay. She was a kind pony, in her own way. Out of the goodness of her heart, she'd opened the doors of her house and fed and looked after all the little orphans. However, she exceptecgood behaviour and hard work from all of them, which was reasonable. However, there was one fly in the ointment for poor Vinyl. Ms Toffee Pudding forbade music except for soft lullabies which were sung to the babies. This is torture for Vinyl because she loved music, especially the wild electric, pop music, with all the DJ gear. It was her dream to become a DJ, but she complied with Ms Toffee Puddings wishes, because she liked her and because she suffered from severe ear aches and migraines. Despite that hiccup, Vinyl was happy growing up in the orphanage.
This is a story about Vinyl and Octavia, so naturally I wouldn't forget about Octavia's parents. Pink Pansy was deeply disturbed by Vinyl's disappearance decided that she needed to change her attitude, because she finally realized that it was partly her fault that Vinyl had run away. She was reassured when Vinyl sent her letters every fortnight, but she didn't write an address so she couldn't write back to her. Vinyl said that she was fine and happy and she also said that she was attending to an old, sick pony who ran an orphanage. So, Pink Pansy and Vinyl Tune (that's Vinyl's father) were comforted.
They were even happy when Pink had a little baby, a filly. She was really cute, with her soft, charcoal black Mane and tail and purple eyes which were the same as her father's and her half sister. But she mostly looked like her mother. Vinyl Tune decide to call her Octavia Melody because it suited her and it had a nice ring to it.
Octavia had a happy childhood. She was taught how to play a variety of different instruments, but her favorite was definitely the cello. She became famous for her talents, even at an early age. However, she never lot fame get to head, although she spoke slightly posher than she used to, but never mind...
Shortly after Octavia got her cutie mark, her parents decided that she was old enough to learn about her older half sister Vinyl Scratch, so they told her the whole story. She was shocked, surprised and delighted at the thought that she had a sister. But when she asked where her sister was, they said that she didn't know. Octavia was disappointed because she wanted to visit her, so she asked if they could look for her. Her parents shook their heads and sighed. They told her that Vinyl was fully grown and had her own life and that if she wanted to come home, their door was always open for her. Octavia vowed that night before she fell asleep before she fell asleep, that one day she would find her big sister and that they'd be best friends forever!
A turning point came in Vinyl's life when Ms Toffee Pudding died. She had left the orphanage to her, making her promise that she'd take care of the orphans. Vinyl wanted to but at the same time, she had just been hired as Princess Celestia's DJ and she couldn't turn it down. So, Vinyl left the orphans in the care of her friend, a nice, kind, dependable pony, who's grown up with Vinyl.
Vinyl loved her job as a DJ. She had plenty of free time, most of it she spent with the orphans, giving them concerts and autographs and the like. Celestia really enjoyed her music and would pay her extra for her services. Vinyl would give most of it to the orphanage and to other institutions across Equestria. She was happy.
One day, she got a message from Princess Celestia. A message had been sent from Pink Pansy and Vinyl Tune's daughter saying that both her parents died in an accident a few days before and the funeral was on the next day. She had heard of Vinyl Scratch for she was quite famous and since her estranged half sister fit the description, she wanted to send this message to her. Vinyl got quite upset and finally told Celestia her story through sign language. Celestia was very understanding and told her that she could take as much time off as she wanted.
When Vinyl got home, she couldn't help but weep. She wasn't there for them when they would have needed her. She had foresaken them. Before the funeral, she met Octavia. She didn't like her at first. She thought that she was posh and stuck up, while Octavia thought that Vinyl was wild, unsophisticated and lazy. That was not the case. After the funeral, they got to know each other better. Vinyl realized that she wanted to take care of her sister, so when Octavia suggested moving in, she accepted. Vinyl quit her job and became Ponyville's local DJ instead. They shared the house, decorating one half each to their taste.
Octavia and Vinyl were happy, sharing a house getting to know each other. However, they didn't always get along. Vinyl always dank all the milk, leaving none for breakfast or a cup of tea or coffee. Octavia put on airs and wouldn't talk to Vinyl in public sometimes. However, with sisterly love, they got through it all, because as you would all agree with me when I say: Friendship is Magic!
