Chapter 1: Chapter One

Chapter One

Discord, a beast of many forms, he is the Chimaeric entity of Chaos. A Draconequus by birth, he is the perfect representation of all things Disharmonious. Many centuries ago he ruled over a Chaotic Equestria, everything in a state of eternal unrest. Nothing could match his power. That was, until the sisters, Celestia and Luna, found the Elements of Harmony and imprisoned him in stone. They could not destroy him, for the simple fact that Chaos is a necessary evil. The stone prison kept him from controlling the disharmony, but his energy still seeped out in small amounts. It was just enough to create that subtle chaos in daily life. Ponies brush it off as bad luck or coincidence, when in reality, it is disharmony at work.

Just about two years ago, when Nightmare Moon broke free from her own prison in the moon, the Elements were passed on. The six friends, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, AppleJack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Rarity, discovered a hidden strength in the Elements with their friendship. The new power freed Princess Luna of the dark spirit, Nightmare Moon. But because the Elements were bound to new souls, the original spell imprisoning Discord weakened. And when a spark of simple disharmony appeared before his statue, the spell broke.

Again, Discord was bored out of his mind, having lost interest in the falling snow. He wished that something, anything would happen just to kill this awful boredom. It had felt amazing when he had finally been free, and able to walk about the world as he pleased. The joy he had experienced was almost too much to handle. It had been taken away far too quickly.

But now… He was yet again imprisoned. Who knew how long before, if ever, he would be released.

Quite suddenly, he felt an odd beating in his chest. His body, for the first time in a long while, began to warm. The beating intensified, until it shook him to his very core. The stone that surrounded him lit up, and with a single glorious crack, it happened.

His prison broke, shattering completely. The pieces of broken stone shot out across the gardens and just like that he was free.

He couldn’t believe his eyes, or his mind. He was free. To make sure that this was actually real he moved his lion paw. He could actually move it, he wasn’t frozen in stone.

“Is this some sort of dream?” He asked out loud. He actually talked! Instead of just hearing his own thoughts, he actually heard his own voice! He really was free!

“I don’t understand, why did the prison break? There must be some reason for this.” Discord looked left and right, expecting to see Celestia standing there, but nopony was in sight. He was alone.

He laughed. Oh, it felt good to laugh again. He was actually free. He hadn’t been this happy since he was free. Chaotic thoughts began to flicker in his mind. What would he do first? Create a few cotton candy clouds? Pull a few pranks? Turn Canterlot castle into jell-o?

He had the entire world at his feet. He could do anything! But then he remembered a friend from a long time ago. One that actually understood his jokes and pranks. One that was imprisoned with only for the two rulers to hide him. This time.....he was not leaving his only friend alone. With a snap of his fingers he was gone.

"Princess Celestia, we came as fast as we could," Twilight said, as she and her friends halted.

The Princess nodded. "Thank you, Twilight. Thank you all."

"We know why this is happening Princess, the animal's weird behaviour and the rain," Twilight followed up. "Discord's free, isn't he?"

Another nod. "Follow me."

They did as she commanded, as she led them up the stairs into the marble halls of Canterlot Tower, decorated with flowers and the royal colours of gold and purple. Coloured light streamed in through stained glass windows, that depicted Discord, his rule of Equestria, the Princess's defeat of him.

She couldn't recall another time she'd seen her mentor so agitated. She hid it well beneath a visage of cold calmness, but Twilight could see it. The fear in her eyes, the way that she moved quickly. It made her feel a little scared as well, to see her like this…

"We were told that the magic of the Elements would keep him imprisoned forever," she added, as they neared a large, jewel-encrusted door.

"I thought so too," agreed Celestia, "but since Luna and I are no longer connected to the Elements, the spell has been broken."

"No longer connected?" The Princess didn't elaborate further, as she halted before the door.

"This is Canterlot Tower," she explained, more for the benefit of the others than herself, "where the Elements are kept inside since all of you recovered them. I need you to wield the Elements of Harmony once again and stop Discord before he thrusts all of Equestria into eternal chaos."

Twilight asked the question that had just come to mind. "But why us? Why don't you-"

"Hey, look! We're famous!" She looked at where Pinkie indicated to a window, which depicted the six of them unleashing the Elements upon

Nightmare Moon. How long had that been there?

"You six showed the full potential of the elements by harnessing the magic of your friendship to beat a mighty foe. Although Luna and I once wielded the elements, it is you who now control their power, and it is you who must defeat Discord."

Twilight had suspected this already, but she felt a little better to hear the determination in her voice. "Princess Celestia, you can count on–"

Pinkie cut her off again. "Hold on a second! Eternal chaos comes with chocolate rain, you guys. Chocolate rain!" Nopony said anything in response to this.

"Don't listen to her, Princess," she dismissed. " We'd be honoured to use the Elements of Harmony again."

Celestia bestowed a smile, and then turned to the door. Twilight watched as she inserted her horn into a hole in the centre of the door, a magical blue light spreading out through the grooves of the door to light up the gems that decorated the door and opening to reveal a purple box inside, also covered in jewels.

Rarity's eyes were as wide as saucers. "Ooh. You can keep the Elements. I'll take that case!"

"Have no fear, ponies. I have total confidence that you will be able to defeat Discord with these!" She levitated the box and opened it to reveal…

The Princess gasped and dropped the case with an echoing bang. There was nothing. The box was empty. The Elements of Harmony were gone. Twilight stared at it in utter disbelief, they all did. There was a deathly silence, until…

"Oh, well. If anyone needs me, I'll be outside in the chocolate puddles with a giant swizzle straw." Twilight was snapped out of her reverie and dragged Pinkie back with magic before she could wander off. "Aw."

The Princess was even more worried now. "That chamber is protected by a powerful spell that only I or Luna can break! This doesn't make sense!"

No sooner had she said this, a deep, mocking laughter echoed throughout the hall that made Twilight's skin crawl. The voice that spoke seemed to slither its way into her ear like a snake. "Make sense? Oh, what fun is there in making sense?"

"Discord..." whispered Celestia fearfully, then in a louder voice commanded, "Show yourself!"

Twilight's eyes darted around the room, looking for any sign of him as his fiendish chuckles echoed once more. Her eyes sought out one of the windows that depicted Discord playing with ponies like puppets. All of a sudden, the Discord started to move.

"Did you miss me, Celestia? I missed you." Smiling, he hovered over to the window next to it, resting on Fluttershy's head. "It's quite lonely being encased in stone, but you wouldn't know that, would you, because I don't turn ponies into stone." He rapped Fluttershy with his fist to make this point.

"Enough!" she commanded again. "What have you done with the Elements of Harmony?"

"Oh, I just borrowed them for a teensy little while." He snapped his fingers and the Elements in the window vanished in a flash of light.

Twilight had never seen magic like this before, but she controlled her fear and stared defiantly at him.

The Princess stomped her hoof. "You'll never get away with this, Discord!"

The spirit of chaos was idly examining his claws, as if they were vastly more interesting than her. "Oh, I'd forgotten how grim you can be, Celestia. It's really quite boring."

"Hey! Nopony insults the Princess!" Rainbow charged at the window that depicted him, but he vanished and she crashed into it. When he reappeared, he was much larger.

"Oh, you must be Rainbow Dash, famed for her loyalty, the Element of Harmony you represent."

"That's right! I'll always be loyal to the Princess!" she declared proudly.

He vanished once more. "We'll see about that," he said in a way that made her stomach clench.

"I can't believe we're wasting our time talking to a tacky window," Rarity remarked, as Discord appeared in the window behind her.

"The beautiful Rarity, representing the Element of Generosity, if I'm not mistaken?"

"So ya know who we are, big deal," Applejack dismissed defiantly.

He grew larger again, towering over them in the window. "Oh, I know much more than that, honest Applejack."

"You seem to know our strengths, too," stated Twilight.

She felt cold as his uneven eyes beheld her like there was nothing she could hide from him. "Yes, Twilight Sparkle, and yours is the most powerful and elusive element, Magic. Fluttershy's is Kindness and Pinkie Pie's is a personal favourite of mine - Laughter."

Twilight could hear Pinkie sniggering behind her as Discord chuckled and danced on her head in the window. "Pinkie!"

"Stop stalling, Discord!" ordered Celestia. "What have you done with the Elements of Harmony?

He sighed exasperatedly. "Oh, so boring, Celestia. Really? Fine, I'll tell you, but I'll only tell you my way.....better yet. I'll give you them back on one condition." Before Celestia answered Discord appeared in front of her. "Where is my friend you hid?"

Celestia eyes widened before narrowing. "Absolutely not! I will not tell you where he is!"

Discord eyes narrowed as he lost all playfulness in them. "You had no right to separate me from my friend."

"I wondered who would be friends with someone like him?"

Discord ignored the remark as he continued staring at Celestia who only stared back at him. Discord sighed. "Are you really going to play like that?" Silence was all he received. "Very well Celestia." Discord snapped his fingers causing the main six to be caught in a bubble of some kind.

Celestia eyes widened when she saw her ponies trying to break out while no noise could be heard from them. "Discord release them!"

Discord just stood there playing with his fingers. "You know what you have to do Celestia. You know.....I heard the moon  is a nice place to be right now." Discord commented offhandedly while he looked ready to snap his fingers.

Celestia glared daggers at him while glancing over at her ponies worriedly. If Discord reunites with his friend then there might not be anyway to stop them but if she didn't....She sighed. "He is hidden in a cave south of here."

"You have to tell more than that. I know that you probably put up some kind of spell ward."

Celestia pulled out a chain of some kind where it floated over towards Discord. "This amulet will destroy the barrier."

Discord smiled. "Might kind of you princess." All he got back was a glare. "As promised, I will release them. As for the element's well."

Discord vanished causing the six ponies to drop to the floor.

To retrieve your missing elements,

Just make sense of this change of events.

Twists and turns are my master plan.

Then find the elements back where you began.

But even if you find the Elements, you see,

It'll take more than them this time to stop me.

Discord's laughter echoed around the hall as his riddle finished though he was already gone.

Celestia looked out towards where the cave was. She hoped the two can be resealed again......she hoped. First she need to get her sister while her ponies find the elements.

Discord reappeared right outside the cave he was told. He could feel his friend power radiating from within the cave. taking a step he stopped as the cave entrance glowed a bright yellow colour. Discord could sense shield upon shield upon shield upon blah blah blah. He held up the amulet that glowed before it vapourised along with the glowing shields. 'That was weird. Oh well.'

Walking in he glanced all around the cave and saw rocks.......more rock.......and bats......."Too Boring!" With a snap of his fingers, he turned the entire area covered with candy as if it was from that board game.....Candyland. "Much better!" He continued on his way only to stop when he saw what he was looking for causing him to smile.

Walking over towards a statue that was standing in the middle of the room he stared. The statue was a figure that had a skeleton head. The figure was wearing a hoodie or simple jacket, unzipped at all times, with a white shirt, and black shorts. Discord saw the statue was cracked slightly. 'Hold on buddy.' Discord began pouring some of his chaos magic into the statue. At first the statue was shaking then suddenly stopped. Discord waited.......waited.....and waited.

"That's it?" As the word left his mouth the entire area began shaking. "Time to go!" With a snap of his fingers, Discord teleported outside and watched as the entire cave began splitting in half with a big blue glow coming from within along with a voice.

"For Thousands Of Years, I Laid Dormant! Who has disturbed my......."

"Hey best buddy!" Discord interrupted by appearing in front of the skeleton with a smile.

The skeleton turned towards Discord with his two glowing blue eyes. The two were silent as they stared at each other. "Discord." The skeleton eyes glowed brighter causing Discord to sweat slightly though he smiled still. The glow disappeared while the figure smiled. "Guess I'll have to bone up on my anatomy." The skeleton was suddenly pulled into a hug which he returned.

"Oh tibia free at last."
