I was spat out of the portal onto the ground with a heavy thud. "Well that could've been more comfortable," I said as I shook my head. I turned around to see the portal disappear, did it work? I looked down to see four hooves instead of two hands and feet. "Hell yeah, vortices for the win!" I shouted.
"I knew you could do it," I turned to see the cloaked man again.
"Did you follow me here? How did you know? Why did you want to come to Equestria?" I flung numerous unusual questions at him but he didn't respond.
After I had finished pinging him with questions he spoke, this time in a much clearer and healthier voice. "Young Isaac, you have the power of creating portals, with or without the magic that lives in Equestria. Because of this you have been reborn as an alicorn."
I looked over my shoulder to see two enormously large wings, them felt for the space above my head to find a horn protruding it's way from my skull.
"By the way you are now my student, whether or not you want to be. Meet me at the Castle of Two Sisters in the Everfree forest for tuitions every month from now. Enjoy your life in Equestria, make sure you don't talk to any of the mane six or bad things will come to pass. Goodbye," Then the mysterious man vanished into thin air.
"Ok then," I said, now alone. I looked up and saw a pegasus chariot pulled by two royal guards fly by. "Is that the chariot that Twilight arrived in?" I walked on over to the central square, hiding behind a wall. "No way. I get to witness every event that has happened so far but I can't even communicate with the main characters. Jeez that sucks."
I thought up things to do, I could try to use these sexy wings and fly to the clouds or I could see if I can use this awesome horn of mine for magic. Actually I should probably make up a name for myself as Isaac is rather uncommon for ponies. TheVortexEquilizer was my username for everything on earth, so I guess I should to call myself Vortex. "What about a job?" I always liked the thought being a palace guard maybe I should trial for that, I could even learn how to properly fly and use magic too.
It was decided then, I was going to Canterlot to pledge myself to Princess Celestia. Sure it was going to take about an hour or so to walk there seen as I can't fly or teleport, I'll still get there.
An hour later:
I finally arrived at Canterlot, by then I was exhausted and wherever I went someone was staring at me intensely, why, had they not seen an alicorn before? Probably don't want another ruler I guess. I was pulled away from all my thoughts when a guard noticed me waiting outside the gates.
"Halt! State your name and business!" He shouted from the wall.
"I am Vortex and I am here to see Princess Celestia!" I yelled back at him. He got one good look at me and murmured to the other guards.
Eventually he shouted behind the wall. "Let him in," "Sorry for the trouble your highness," He said and the other guards let me through. "Oh yes, I'm in a fantasy world and I get treated like royalty. What a life!" A part of me wanted to shout at him. "BOW DOWN BEFORE YOUR RULER, VORTEX THE LORD OF... " Never mind, that would have gone down terribly.
In about ten minutes I had arrived in the throne room, I had to ask around a lot, I had never actually been here after all. On both walls there were huge windows which stretched from floor to ceiling. I looked at two stained glass windows in particular that interested me, the ones that pictured the Princesses defeating Discord and the one when Celestia was forced to banish her sister to the moon using the elements of harmony.
"Welcome, Vortex, to Canterlot," I heard a voice say. Princess Celestia had appeared next to me. "I understand that you wish to speak to me, am I correct?"
"Yes, I have come to offer my servitude to you as a royal guard," I bowed down low to her.
"Vortex, fellow alicorn, surely you have more to say than that?" She said questioningly. "Earthling."
"Uh..." I just stood there with my mouth opening and closing like a fish, dumbfounded. "I um..." "No! This can't be happening! How did she know? How can she know?"
"Do not worry young Isaac, I'm not going to treat you anyway different to other ponies. Also I would love to have you as a royal guard, my personal elite? How does that sound?" She smiled with friendliness
I still stood there like a fish, but instead of in shock it was in surprise. "YES!" I said in excitement.
"Great, go to the training grounds. Tell the trainer I sent you, oh and can you give this to him but do not open it," She passed me a piece of paper with her magic but realised I probably couldn't lift it and talk to her at the same time. "Never mind, I'll just send it later."
"Thank you Princess," I bowed again and then turned away to leave but Princess Celestia stopped me.
"Please, call me Celestia. And one more thing before you go-"
I turned back. "Yes?"
"Can you write a book for me about your stay in Equestria."
I nodded and left her looking at the stained glass windows. I could have sworn that she said something like. "I shall see you soon, sister..."
It took me a while to get to the training grounds, I still hadn't learnt my way around the palace. I found the trainer, a grey pegasus with a white mane and a big scar across his cheek sat at desk in a room to the side of the grounds, he looked very busy. "Excuse me sir," I said.
"What is it?" He said in a gruff voice.
"Princess Celestia sent me," I said and at that moment a letter appeared at his desk, probably the one Celestia wanted me to send.
He opened the letter and read through it for a bit. Then after looking at something absurd to him on the letter he said. "You, a palace guard? The Princess' personal elite too? Pah!" He got a good, long, judgemental look at me. "Oh you're an alicorn. She must think you're important, nopony has ever gotten a place so dedicated for the Princess like this before in history! Consider yourself lucky."
"Yes sir," I said, he squinted at me.
"Your training starts this afternoon, be here or else I'm kicking you out," He stated firmly.
"Yes sir."
"That's Skyridge, to you," he said and smiled.
"Ok, I can get used to this guy,"
"Oh and here's a key to your quarters, room 147, second floor on the left. The last pony to use that room was also an alicorn, somehow it seems fitting that you take over where he left off."
"Thanks Skyridge," I walked away and started looking around the palace, I had learn my way around somehow. I then went off in search for my room, room 147. It took me a fair while to find my room, but hey, at least I got to see most of the palace by now. It was a fairly plain room, not much character. It looked as if the alicorn to live here had moved on a very long time ago. All it had was a bed, a single set of drawers and a blue shield hanging on the wall with the letters L.B engraved on its centre. It must've belonged to the previous alicorn who lived here.
"Lightning Blitz was his name," I jumped and turned around to see an old purple unicorn guard standing there, in the doorway to my room.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Midnight Dust. I was there the day Lightning Blitz had vanished. Yes he just vanished without a trace. He was on a mission for Celestia in the Frozen North, he was the personal elite of her guard like you," That surprised me.
"But the trainer said nopony had ever gotten a rank that high in history," I said.
"Oh that was because when Lightning had disappeared the Princess demanded all information on him to be removed, besides his shield and some memories. Skyridge and I are the only guards that still remember him," The old guard was sad, he was obviously good friends with Lightning. "Anyway I shall leave you to accommodate to your new room," He said and slowly trotted off.
Later that day:
I woke up to the clanging of a bell, probably telling me that training was about to begin. "Damn, I shouldn't have slept so long," I grabbed an apple from a bowl that must have been put there before I woke up and rushed off to the training grounds. I got there early because, of course, I used portals to fling my way around. Come on, who wouldn't? Anyway Skyridge was waiting there for me and the other elites to arrive, unlike me though they were just like normal troops that mainly went on infiltration missions.
"Got here early I see, well I'm not surprised. I expected no less of you. You're going to have to wait for a bit for the others to arrive though. Go take a look around the grounds for a few minutes, I will call you when ready," he said in his usual gruff voice.
"Ok Skyridge," I said. I didn't mind looking around the place, it was absolutely huge.
"Oh and by the way call me sir around the others, just because I don't want the guards to think that they aren't as special as you. A guard who has low morale and self esteem is not great to train," He said as if this wasn't the first time. "Yes, I did train Lightning Blitz, Midnight told me of the conversation you had earlier," He said in a sad voice. "Well off you go."
I left thinking about Lightning Blitz, his disappearance obviously caused the two ponies quite a lot of sadness. Thinking of that made me sad and I made a silent vow. "I will find Lightning Blitz. Nothing will stop me," I thought about it for a second and shook it off. How could I find him, even if I knew where he was I wouldn't be able to help much. I wandered the grounds aimlessly like a lost soul for around five minutes until I could hear Skyridge calling to me and quickly ran towards his voice.
"Great Vortex you're back," He said his voice sounding gruff once more. He then turned to the other guards. "Alright boys this our newest member, Vortex," He said and gestured towards me with his head.
The guards just looked at me and by the looks in their eyes they were judging me pretty intensely. They all looked very buff compared to me which made me feel even more awkward with the silence. Until one of them spoke up in a voice full of spite. "You're the Princesses personal elite, really? Skyridge, has the guard really gone this low to accept this pathetic pony," He was a red unicorn with an orange mane.
"Flameburst, stop teasing the poor pony," Said a pegasus with a brown coat and blue mane.
"Oh yeah, what you gonna do about it Streamline?" He said with a mocking voice.
"Flameburst! What did I say about picking your fights wisely, we don't want you bursting into flames again," Skyridge said.
"Well I'm sure I can take on these two morons, I mean I do have most of the elite to back me up, as captain," He said in a cocky voice.
"You and me are going to have lots of fun together," I thought sadly.
"Flameburst!" Skyridge roared. "Get back to training!" Flameburst sneered at me and walked off. I looked at Streamline.
"Thanks for backing me up," He just shrugged.
"No problem, Flameburst does have a bad habit on picking on the newbies. I know I was there, the newbie then was me. I tried to fight back but Flameburst burst into flames and scorched me and a couple of others, including Skyridge. He was relieved of duty and put in jail to cool down for a month or so until recently."
"Oh great, a pyromaniac for a captain," "Well looks like we have our hands full. Lets get to training," I said and walked off with Streamline by my side.
Several hours passed by quickly and I was exhausted, both physically and mentally. Until finally we were dismissed. I was glad about it so I teleported back to my room. Then I realised that tonight was the summer sun celebration and Nightmare Moon was going to come back, I had to tell the Princess. I ran off to the throne room.
"Celestia?" I called.
"I'm in the library," I heard her call back from a room to the right and I walked towards it. I found Celestia standing and reading a letter over and over again. "You have come to tell me about Nightmare Moon haven't you?" She said unexpectedly.
"Yes, is that the letter Twilight sent before she came to Ponyville?"
"It is, however I cannot interfere with my sister's return. It will mean that Twilight will never understand the magic of friendship, so I will ask you please, do not try to help."
"But-" I was cut off but Celestia raising her hoof.
"I know you mean good but I need something else of you. Watch over Twilight, make sure no harm comes to her."
"Ok Princess, I will protect her with my life," I said.
"Thank you Vortex. Go back to Ponyville, and look after her."
I bowed and turned to face a wall, created a portal and stepped through.
