Chapter 9: 9) Life is great

The next day

Shard lay on the fresh green grass in the park under the shade of a tree, his hands behind his head as he watched the clouds go by. His thoughts went to the previous night, a smile appearing on his face as he relived the memory in his head. After the kiss the two of them cuddled up together as they went back inside. Their friends still didn't know anything about it, they had separated before going to sleep.

As the two parted ways, agreeing to meet up the next day, his mind wouldn't leave Ditzy. All he could think about was her eyes, her laugh, her smile and her adorable sneezes. His smile never faltered, at that moment he was glad to be alive, nothing could take that smile away.

He moved his head and watched a few kids playing on the playground, laughing and giggling as they went. He took in a whiff of the morning air. Smelling the scent of the flowers and grass he looked back up to the sky. "Life is great."

Ditzy couldn't stop smiling, the memory of the night before was just too perfect. The words said by Shard before the kiss were imprinted in her mind and heart. "Your Beautiful Wonky Eyes." She kept repeating it to herself as she walked down the sidewalk, giggling like a schoolgirl every time.

"What's got you so happy Ditzy?" Ditzy turned around to see Sunset Shimmer standing there with her partner Soul Writer, he had white hair with a small bit of a beard on his chin. He wore a grey hoodie which he kept open revealing a white t-shirt underneath.

Ditzy blushed a little. "Well... You see... I met this boy..."

Soul and Sunset smiled knowingly. "New student?" The both asked, Ditzy nodded.

"What's this one like? Is it that one that made those two jocks run out of the school in their underpants?" Soul asked, chuckling at the memory.

"Yeah, that's the one." Ditzy answered, giggling as she too looked back at the moment.

Sunset rolled her eyes and walked over to Ditzy. "Well I'm happy you found someone Ditzy, and I hope he treats you well."

"Oh he's treated me very well so far, we have a lot in common and he always says the nicest things. Come to think of it I think he and Soul would get along." Sunset and Soul raised a brow.

"Why's that?" The white haired boy asked.

"Well, he's into a lot of videoe games, sci-fi, comic books and all of that stuff, although he is really athletic and can speak Japanese." Ditzy blushed as she explained.

Soul scratched his chin in thought. "Hmmm, if that's true I guess we would get along."

"No Soul, you'd definitely get along." Sunset stated in a tired voice. "There is nothing you love more than video games and sci-fi."

"Not true, there's you after all." Soul countered slyly.

"Yeah yeah, back up lover boy." Sunset smiled and turned back to Ditzy. "So, what's his name?"

"Oh, he's called Shard Storm." Ditzy answered with a big smile.

"What does he look like?" Both asked in unison, looking at each other with a brow raised.

"He's got orange hair and eyes, peach skin, wears a black jacket with orange fur at the collar and wrists."

Soul looked to Sunset. "Hey I saw that guy in the park earlier, maybe he's still there."

"We might as well go see him before Treble Mix gets to him." Sunset then turned to Ditzy. "You coming with us Ditzy?"

The grey skinned girl blushed. "Oh, sorry but I need to get some things done before tomorrow."

The two nodded in understanding before bidding farewell to Ditzy. As the two disappeared from sight Ditzy continued on her way, listening to the sound of the foot breeze rustling the leaves of the trees growing in a few gardens. The birds began singing as the sun revealed itself from behind a cloud, bringing its light down onto the world and making everything all the more colourful.

"Life is great."

As Shard got to his feet he stretched his arms and looked up at the sky. Smiling he began walking down the hill he had been resting on. As he reached the bottom he looked around at the couples walking through the park hand in hand, making everything feel right in the world.

He began walking towards the gates of the park, as he was within a few dozen meters of the exit he sensed something coming from behind him. Turning 90 degrees he stopped the fist of one of the many jocks that had converged on him. Letting go of the fist he turned his body towards the group, all of them glaring at him with cocky smirks. "What do you 'roiders want?"

A crowd of the students at the park had circled the standoff, all murmuring and whispering to each other. The jocks were all taller and buffer than Shard, the shortest being a head taller than the orange haired swordsman. "Simple really, we's just gonna teach ya a lesson for makin a fool out of our boys yesterday."

"Oh no they were already fools, I just gave them a warning to not mess with my friend." Shard replied with a bored tone.

The leader of the jocks growled. "You mean that retarded blonde with the messed up eyes?" The group laughed.

They all heard a sound effect of glass breaking and turned to Shard, who was glaring at them with a mighty rage.

"Hey I don't like that look of yours, looks like someone here needs to be taught the pecking order." As the leader swung his fist it was effortlessly blocked by Shard putting up his hand and grabbing it.

"What... did you just call her?" His voice was dark and his eyes were slightly shaking in anger.

Sunset and Soul walked into the park and saw the standoff. As they were about to intervene Shard tossed the fist to the side and spin kicked the jock in the head, knocking him to the ground. The crowd froze and the thugs growled.

Shard stood straight with his fists clenched. "Alright boys, get ready for the first real fight of you pathetic lives."
