Chapter 1: I Used To

I Used To

Twilight's legs felt weak as she walked past the stained glass windows of Canterlot Castle. She felt faint, and her heart was thumping wildly against he chest. She couldn't do it.

She stopped. "Twilight, y'alright? Hey, that rhymes!" Pinkie giggled to herself as she too stopped walking bouncing.

The alicorn shook her head. "I can't do it...it's too risky, I can't..." She gulped. "Nope, I'm going home." She turned, intending to do just that, but her path was blocked by a grinning pink pony.

"Twilight, don't be silly! Going home will make it harder for you to come out to the princess, not easier!"

Twilight grit her teeth as she said, "Yes, Pinkie, that's why I'm doing it."

"But the whole point of us coming here was so you could get this off your chest!" Pinkie whined, stepping in front of her yet again. "You don't relieve stress by repressing the source of stress!"

"I know, Pinkie."

"Then why are you leaving?"

"Because Celestia doesn't need to know that I'm bisexual! Her knowing what genders I like won't affect our friendship in any way!"

Pinkie's brow furrowed. "Again: why are you leaving? If that's the case, then doing this will make you feel better and won't affect your relationship with the princess!" When her marefriend playfully glared at Pinkie, she knew she had won.

Twilight pecked her on the lips. "Alright, smarty-pants: you win."

Pinkie stuck out her tongue and rummaged around in her mane. She beamed when she found what she was looking for -- which turned out to be some sort of tally chart with two pens clipped to it: one fuchsia and one lavender. Pinkie took the fuchsia pen and added one point to the column on the left. "That makes me only five points behind you!" she exclaimed, causing Twilight to laugh.

"I love you, Pinkie," she giggled. "I love you so, so much."

"I love you more!" Pinkie insisted.

"I love you the more-stest."

They shared a kiss then continued on down the hallway. By the time they had come to the grand doors that led to the throne room, Twilight was feeling nervous again. She looked back at Pinkie, who looked ridiculously happy as she said, "Go on! I'll be right behind you!"

That was all Twilight needed. She pushed with both hooves and walked in with three bold steps. Not daring to hesitate for fear that anxiety would overtake her, Twilight immediately said, "Celestia, please can I talk with you?"

She looked up at the white alicorn. "Of course, Twilight." Celestia motioned for the guards to leave the room before she got up and approached her former student. "What is it?"

Twilight bit her lip. There was no going back now. "Celestia, I am bisexual." The alicorn squeezed her eyes shut, preparing for the snippy, passive-aggressive response.

"That's wonderful, Twilight," she beamed. "I'm glad you told me."

Twilight looked up in mild amazement. "You're not...you're not mad?!"

Celestia laughed. "Of course not! Why would I be?"

Tears formed in Twilight's eyes. "You've been alive for over a thousand years...you were alive when homosexual acts weren't legal...I-I thought..."

Twilight trailed off as Celestia embraced her. Pinkie rushed over to join the hug. When they -- or just Celestia -- pulled away, the Princess of the Sun said, "I can understand why you would think that, Twilight. I am ashamed to admit that there was a time when I did not approve of homosexuals." Celestia lifted Twilight's head to face hers. "But that is in the past. You needn't worry. After all, it's no longer illegal, and hasn't been for quite some time now!"

Twilight sniffed, smiling a bit. "Yeah, but...I dunno...politicians contradict themselves all the time."

All three mares laughed. "True, true." Celestia hugged her again. "But I'm your friend, and I will love you no matter what."

"Thank you, princess," Twilight whispered.

They stayed silent for a while. Then Pinkie said, "Well, while we're here, I might as well come out too: hey, princess! I'm pansexual!"

"Oh, well that makes everything different," Celestia said, faux-sternly. "Am I wrong to assume that you two are...?"

"A couple? Hay yeah!" Pinkie pecked Twilight on the cheek.

Celestia beamed at them. "That's wonderful to hear. Is there anything else you wanted to say?"

"Nope!" Twilight said. "Bye...I guess!"

"Goodbye!"

Twilight motioned for Pinkie to hop on her back, which she did, before beating her wings and circling back down the corridors, using her magic to open the doors.

Technically, they weren't allowed to do that, but nobody really cared; the corridors were way too big, anyway.

Once they were outside, Twilight stopped. "No! No! Don't stop, that was fun!" Pinkie exclaimed. She was barely holding on to the alicorn.

"Shall I go and come out to Moondancer, Minuette, Lemon Heart and Twinkleshine?" she wondered aloud. "You could throw another party for them."

Pinkie snorted with laughter and nuzzled Twilight. "Yeah, lets do that!"

Twilight smiled and started flying over Canterlot, looking for the nearest house of one of her aforementioned friends. "I'm so lucky to have you, Pinkie Pie. I love you."

Pinkie grinned slyly and tightened her grip as they picked up speed and the wind rushed past them. "I love you more."

Twilight kissed her. "I love you the more-stest."
