Black Heart
Chapter 1: It Begins...
Crystal Empire
Twilight walked through the lonely streets of the Crystal Empire, the lamps on the sides of the street shined, yet the provided little light to brighten the mood of the Empire. The purple unicorn mare was walking to the castle, she stopped at the entrance. Surprisingly there were no guards was he expecting her? "No, no, that couldn't be," she said to herself, under her breath she open the door, she knew her life would change for ever at this decision.
"Twilight cheer up a little! Your bravery just saved the Crystal Empire, all of it. Of course they would through a party in your honour," A white unicorn mare with a curled purple mane, said to Twilight. While they were walking to their rooms in the Crystal Empire's castle, after a long day of defeating a villain they sure did need it; they deserved it too.
"It just doesn't feel-" she started but soon became lost in her thoughts the she stopped walking altogether. "Rarity, I don't want to worry you."
"Nonsense!" she replied back to her friend, "I may be able to help!"
Twilight let out a sigh and turned towards her friend who stopped walking too, "Trust me, you can't help me with this."
"Fine! If you won't tell me, you know I'll find it out sooner or later," rarity said as she started walking aging leaving Twilight behind her, she turned a corner and ws out of sight.
"I know, this seems so bad, but-" she began to mutter to herself until she heard hoof steps behind her.
"Now Pinkie I'm you mah, apple fritters are better that yours," Apple Jack replied to pinkie rude comment.
"What the problem? You can't fight the facts you know!" Pinkie replied to AJ, deepening the argument.
Twilight turned around and said, "Hi girls, what are you talking about?" she got out of her bad mood within seconds, well acting at least.
"Nothing," Apple Jack replied cooly "Why are ya standing out in the hallway all by yourself?"
"Yeah, Twilight!" Pinkie butted in.
"Oh, Rarity just left me, want to walk to my room with me?"Twilight asked turning towards the way she saw rarity leave.
"Sure that's the way we were heading to," Pinkie replied for Apple Jack.
Twilight opens her eyes to the blinding rays of the sun, she disliked the sun in the mornings, it always woke her up. She sat up in her bed then looked around the Crystalline room, towards the bathroom, did she remember to pack her hair brush? She hopes she did. She gets out of her bed and heads to the bathroom. She searches through her stuff and sure enuff it isn't there. "Urg," she moaned. She left the bathroom and then went to Pinkie's room and asked "Pinkie, are you awake?"
"Yeah what do you need?" Pinkie replied back right before she opened the door.
"Um, Pinkie could I barrow a hair brush?" Twilight asked Pinkie whom just giggled, "What's so funny."
"Oh, I don't brush my hair," Pinkie laughed while looking at Twilight.
"So I'm going to ask Apple Jack if I can use her's," twilight said as she turned around to head to the orange mare's room.
"Twilight why aren't you eating breakfast?" the pink alicorn asked her. "Do you not like it, because the chefs can make you something else."
"No, it's fine," the unicorn replied with a smile. "I'm not hungry."
"Whatever you say Twily," The white unicorn colt, her brother, said in reply.
"I'm going to go back to my room, I have a lot of studying to do,"
"Twilight, you can do that on the train. Stay here and be part of the conversation!" the rainbow-maned pegasus said.
"We I have to grab some books from the library here for um, studying!" she said clearly avoiding them. "Bye," she said before she trotted out the door.
"Something up with her," rarity chimed in, "She seemed upset and confronted me, but she bailed out in the end."
"What do you mean?" cadence asked.
"She said that I couldn't help and that was the end of it. Maybe we should tell Princess Celestia."
"How knows what the problem could be," rainbow sighed while crossing her forelegs. "I mean it's her I could be anything."
"Your right, she is hiding something," Fluttershy said, but no one noticed her words.
"We should leave it alone," rainbow said, "She'll figure it out."
"The last time I did that, it made the problem worse," Shining said, "She thinks she can hold the weight of the world."
Twilight was winding her way through the castle, not to the entrance but to the throne room. She slowly opened the doors to see if anyone was there, not one soul. She opened the doors fully and closed them with her magic as she waltzed in. She flashed back to hen she found the secret passage way, she focused on all the times when she was bullied, she felt powerful. The floor opened up to the spiral stair case. She made her way down and closed it behind her so now one would find out where she was. She looked and there was the door. The door of fear. She opened with ease this time and just as she suspected, it took her were she waned to go, Sombra's book room, except it, was not like how she thought it would be, it was devoid of bookes except on on a podium. She walked over to it, she fliped through the pages and all of them were blank, except one.
If you are reading this, you are one brave soul. What every you want I do not know, but this is why I did what I did. The area around the Crystal Empire was not always a barren wasteland, but a beautiful vast plain biome, but it somehow changed, I do not know why, but it did. This was when King Amythest the 15th had died without any children, and the made me their King because I was his right-hand man. Times were simple during his rule, peaceful. Soon after his death the winter came harder that we've ever recorded and it would not stop. We prayed to the crystal heart and it would not do a thing. So I made them mine for crystals so we could sell them for food. Soon the crystal ponies rebelled and word of their rebellion reached the sisters, and they came with their army and I hade no choice but to hide the Empire until my return.
"This is horrible!" Twilight exclaimed, after reading the page, her whole outlook on the Princesses changed. Twilight wasn't sure who to trust. She closed the book and headed to the door and exited. She had made a decision, she was going to the crystal mines maybe he hide the rest of his journeys there, she'll leave a note on her door. She should have enuf money to get there, she was going to get to the bottom of this with Celestia liked it or not. She bought her stuff and left a note on the door to her room and she was off into the barren wasteland of the north.
