Someone Like Me: Love Mechanism
Chapter 6: Death of Glowing Heart
Previous Chapter Next ChapterCybe reached the shores of Equestria and deactivated his aquatic upgrade. Looking further down the beach a few miles away he saw a battle between cyborgs and Ponies taking place. "I should stay away from there, don't want to get hit in the crossfire."
"Halt!" Cybe looked over to see a tall thin unicorn stallion with a cloudy white coat and a long straight black mane. He wore silver armour and held a sword in his magic. The stallion looked over Cybe and slightly lowered his weapon. "You seem...different, from the others."
Cybe smiled softly and turned his body to face the unicorn. "I know, I was a little confused myself when I realised." The stallion was surprised by the cyborg's voice, it wasn't monotone or devoid of emotion. "My name is Cybe Catcher, what's yours?" He asked politely.
The unicorn sheathed his sword and looked curiously at Cybe. "You aren't going to attack me?"
"Of course not, I have no reason to fight you, much less kill you."
The stallion gave a sigh of relief. "Oh thank Faust, I couldn't bare to take another life on this battlefield." He looked up to Cybe with a smile. "My name is Glowing Heart, pleasure to meet you Cybe Catcher." He held out his hoof and Cybe took it in his claw.
"With a name like that, I assume you aren't a big fan of war then?"
Glowing frowned and looked to his sword. "You'd be right. My talent is helping other ponies to find someone to love, not to take lives."
"I know the feeling. I'm a killing machine that doesn't want to kill, how am I supposed to live like this?" Both looked to the ground.
"Well then it appears we have something in common. Come, I have a small camp set up where we can rest." Cybe nodded and followed Glowing to a small secluded area in a cave that was concealed by large leaves and vines.
"Won't your squad or leaders notice that you're gone?" Cybe asked as he took a sip of tea that Glowing had made for them.
"No, the commanders wanted me as far away from the front lines as possible, so they set my camp up here by order of Princess Cadence."
"Why would the Princess want you to stay away from the front lines?" Cybe asked with curiosity.
"Well, I know you're friendly from a little scan I did so I can trust you. The Princess is my sister." Glowing responded with a smile.
Cybe listened to Glowing talk about his life and what adventures he has had while exploring the uncharted areas of Equestria. Cybe then told him about his escape from Dressia and about the creatures he encountered on the sea floor. Soon Glowing began to yawn.
"We should get some sleep, I have to return to base tomorrow and you're planning on venturing inland correct?" Glowing asked while slipping into a sleeping bag.
"Yes, when I escaped a message in my systems said I could find a place in this land, maybe even make some friends. Who knows, I might run into your sister." They both chuckled and Cybe lay his back against the cave wall. "Goodnight Glowing."
"Goodnight Cybe." Glowing closed his eyes and quickly falling asleep. As Cybe slowly closed his eyes he watched the campfire slowly fade before everything went black and he fell into sleep mode.
The next day Cybe opened his eyes and stretched his organic parts before looking to Glowing. He walked over and gently shook him. "Glowing, come on. Time to get up, we have a big day ahead of us." Glowing stirred before opening his eyes.
"So it wasn't a dream then." He sat up and stretched himself like a cat. "Well then, let me have some breakfast then we'll go." Cybe nodded.
"I'll go make sure the area is clear." He got up and pushed a couple of vines and leaves out of the way to exit the cave. After ten minutes of walking around the area Cybe returned to find Glowing Heart had packed everything away. "Ready to go?" Glowing nodded and the exited the cave and began walking in the direction of the Equestrian Military Outpost. When they were halfway there they came to a crossroad. Glowing stopped and turned to Cybe.
"It was a pleasure to meet you Cybe, and I wish you luck on your journey." Glowing extended his hoof and Cybe took it in his claw.
"Likewise Glowing Heart." As Cybe began walking down one of the paths he heard a blaster shot. He immediately turned around and sprinted down to the path Glowing had taken. Once he spotted Glowing his eyes widened. He was laying on the ground with a burn on his chest while a cyborg walked over to him to finish the job.
Cybe held out his claw and shot his slingshot into the cyborgs chest, destroying the drone. He then rushed to Glowings side and inspected the wound, it was fatal, the blaster fire had burned his heart.
"C-Cybe...I need...you...to do...something...for me." Glowing shakily said.
"I'm here, tell me what you need." Cybe held Glowing in his arms as he looked to his friend in sorrow.
"Take...this to...my sister...tell her...I love her." He shaking put a piece of paper into Cybes claw.
"I will Glowing Heart, I promise."
"You're a good...person Cybe...please...make a place...for yourself here...don't let...anyone...tell you that...you're a mindless...machine." Glowing gave a small smile before breathing his final breath, dying in Cybes arms. Cybe reached his hand to Glowings face and closed his eyes.
"I will Glowing, you can count on me." Cybe began walking down the road towards the outpost. Once he was close enough he lay Glowings body down just outside of the perimeter of the base. A lookout spotted the body and Cybe used his cloak to sneak away. He returned to the crossroads and continued walking down his path. "Rest in peace my friend."
Dinky just looked to Cybe with a sympathetic look. "That was a nice story, it was a sad one but it was nice." Cybe ruffled her mane and got to his feet.
"Come on, your parents are probably worried about you." Dinky smiled and began leading Cybe out of the forest. While he was walking Cybe took the piece of paper that Glowing Heart had given him and stated at it. 'I wasn't able to give it to Cadence earlier, I should be able to now. I will fulfil my promise to you Glowing.'
