Someone Like Me: Love Mechanism
Chapter 2: The sea of stars
Previous Chapter Next ChapterFluttershy just stared at Cybe, unsure of what to do. Fly away? Call for help? Or trust his word? Looking to a lifeless cyborg on the ground she gulped.
"I promise I will not harm you miss Fluttershy, it's ok to come out." Sensing sincerity in his voice, Fluttershy stepped out of her hiding place, revealing herself to him.
"Why?" Cybe tilted his head at her question. "Why aren't you going to hurt me?"
He blinked before placing a hand to his chin in thought. "Because I don't like violence." Fluttershy just raised a brow and pointed to one of the corpses. "Ok to be fair they were just about to kill you. Besides, they were bred for destruction, it's all they know."
"Then why aren't you like that?"
"You sure do know how to ask some really complicated questions don't you? Truth is I don't really know. I was on the assembly line and I just suddenly started having my own thoughts, others didn't appreciate that much so I broke out." Just then they both heard some guards heading their way. "I can't let anyone else see me, I'll be back when I can so we can resume this little chat." He back-pedalled and started running off into the woods.
Fluttershy sat pondering what she had learned. A being built for violence hating violence? Such a thing was unheard of in this world, especially something that the humans had created. A group of guards appeared out of the trees and gasped when they saw the corpses of the cyborgs.
"Miss, did you see what happened here?" Asked one of the stallions and she responded with a nod. "Could you please tell us?"
A few hours later
"A friendly cyborg?!" Twilight yelled in surprise as Fluttershy told her what had happened. "Are you sure?!"
"Um..y-yes, he wasn't like the other mean ones, he's the one that saved me." After a very tense and uncomfortable talk with the guards, Fluttershy had been allowed to return to her day and immediately told Twilight about the experience.
"That shouldn't be possible, the cyborgs are programmed to destroy and obey the Dressian empire." Twilight began pacing back and forth. "Unless something happened to his circuitry causing his human side to regain control of his body, but that would mean that he'd have no combat data and his robotic limbs would no longer function. Unless someone purposely programmed him to be kind. Or it could be a play to draw us in until he has a chance to destroy us..."
"Um...Twilight?"
"...no, the humans are too ruthless to even think about something like that. A defect maybe? I'd need to scan his code to tell. If only there were a way to track him and find out how he works..."
"Twilight..."
"...no he'd just retreat at the sight of me an-"
"Twilight!" Twilight immediately looked to her shy friend. "He told me he'd be returning, maybe you could ask him then?"
Twilight formed a smile that should have torn her cheeks apart. "Seriously, he's coming back? When? Where?"
"I don't know..."
"Wait! I know how we can possibly track him. I have that destroyed cyborg brain down in my basement. If I can use its programming in a small device we should be able to find this friendly robot!" Twilight shot down a flight of stairs, leaving a slightly terrified Fluttershy alone in the main library.
"I'll just...see myself out."
Deep inside a forest lay a cave leading to an underground section of the area. Inside that area was a magical lake known as the sea of stars, as the crystals and reflections of the water below caused the ceiling of the cave to appear like a beautiful night sky. The water had small glowing orange plants that floated slowly above the surface, providing a small warm light on the starry waters.
The caves also had ancient structures that seemed to be the remains of a highway from when humans had settled into Equestria long ago. A large orb in another part of the cave gave the impression of a moon sitting on the horizon. A lone wooden boat floated in the waters, the passenger being a lonely cyborg staring up at the beautiful work of art.
"This place is amazing." He lay with his arms behind his head, resting in the small boat he had found in the caves above. "This world has so much beauty, why would the humans want to destroy this?" He yawned and closed his eyes. "Questions for later, I need to recharge." Letting the soft waves rock him, he fell into a peaceful slumber.
Waking up in a black void he looked around confused. "Ok, I'm definitely dreaming, just not dreaming of anything." He began to walk in a random direction, his footsteps creating the sound of someone walking on a marble floor. Getting increasingly confused he stopped and looked around. "I don't get it, what is this exactly?"
"Somewhere where we can talk undisturbed." He turned around to see none other than princess Luna walking towards him. He immediately bowed in respect. "I must say that I never thought I'd see the day when a cyborg would bow before me." He rose to his feet.
"Well I do need to show my respect towards you your majesty." Taken back by this Luna recomposed herself.
"Tell me cyborg, what is your name?"
"My name is Cybe Catcher, cyborg #0512 to be precise."
"I...never actually expected you to have a name, I just thought you'd have a number and that's it." Cybe just smiled at her.
"Yeah, I tend to surprise people, in the few days I've been alive for of course."
She nodded. "Tell me, what brings you to my sea of stars?"
"Oh, no reason really. I just needed somewhere to hide and rest for the night. It was by accident that I happened to stumble across the cave. It is really beautiful though."
Luna just looked at him in disbelief. 'He's thinking on his own, this requires further investigation. I intended to interrogate him for information but now I doubt he even has that information still in his memory.'
"Come with me Cybe, I wish to talk t o you about youre unique behaviour." She began walking towards a blue door and Cybe followed, leaving the dream behind.
