Chapter 1: Chapter One

Chapter One

Deep in the heart of the great swath of trees known as Lostlorn Forest, a tall figure wandered under the light of a crescent moon.Underneath the cover of the boughs of the towering pines and beeches, it stood silent as a statue, its coloration helping to conceal it from from the prying eyes of those seeking it out. For a long while the creature waited for what seemed to him like a small eternity, until he was reasonably confident that he had yet again successfully evaded the little humans.

Confident, but still cautious none-the-less, the figure stepped out from under the cover of the overhanging branches into the light of the waning moon, revealing himself to be a large bipedal creature covered from head to toe in dark plate armor. He was a pokemon, that much was certain at least; a particularly large species of pokemon commonly known as haxorus, called so for the curved axe-like tusks protruding from either side of the upper jaw of his narrow head. but something was different about this particular specimen, something that set him apart from all others.

For one thing, he was big. Standing at almost ten feet off of the ground, he would have towered over a regular haxorus. This by itself was more than enough reason for the little humans to constantly pursue him. Unfortunately, however, that was not the sole reason for him to want to to remain unseen.

As he stealthily moved about in the light of the moon and stars, the pale glow of the celestial bodies revealed that instead of the typical grayish-yellow that was common for haxorus, his scales were a deep charcoal grey. He was a shiny haxorus, only one of a very few to ever be seen in the Unova Region, or anywhere else in the world. It was for this reason that the humans constantly sought him out. On this night ,however, that reason was serving him well for a change, as it did well to camouflage him, helping him blend in to the darkness cast by the trees.

It was not that he was actually afraid of the humans, far from it. He was and is the strongest thing in this forest. He had run off the humans and their servant pokemon multiple times in his life during his encounters with them, but oftentimes it was more trouble than it was worth to drive them away, and as satisfying and fun as it was to do that, it became tiring after a while. So tonight Haxorus chose to be stealthy, and go to an old hiding place of his.

After deciding which direction he should take by using his sense of smell, the large pokemon set off. It was not too long before he came across a shallow stream that gurgled quietly as it flowed through the woods, and Haxorus began to follow it, while still trying to avoid making noise as much as possible. It was another hour or so before he came across an old two story wooden house. It was vacant, as he had discovered a number of months ago when he found it while foraging. It had clearly seen better days as well, as evidenced by the great mass of plant life that over-ran its outer walls, not to mention the decaying state of the house itself. The paint had peeled off long ago, and not a single window was left undamaged, leaving dull shards of broken glass in the frames. To the side rested what was left of an old water wheel which had once been attached to the building. It had fallen long before Haxorus had ever found the place, and now rested over the stream that he had used to find his way.

After briefly checking to make sure that he had not been followed, Haxorus approached the house and squeezed himself through the door frame, unintentionally startling a pair of venipede in the process, and strode over to a flight of stairs leading down into the basement of the building. Going down it was a little bit of a struggle, given his size, but he managed all the same. Now in the basement, Haxorus, stooped over to avoid hitting his head on the low ceiling, proceeded to stroll over to a large pile of tarps and blankets that he had collected over the years. Collapsing on to the makeshift bed, the large pokemon closed his eyes, and fell into a shallow sleep.

Haxorus' eyes snapped open suddenly in response to the noise that had suddenly awoken him from his slumber. Lifting his head, he sniffed the air for anything unfamiliar to him.Initially he detected nothing, but that did little to put his mind at ease. As quietly as he could manage he got up from his bed and slowly crawled up the stairs, however the wooden steps seemed insistent on producing a loud creak or groan with every movement, much to his annoyance.

When he finally reached the door he cautiously peered outside of it, looking for anything that seemed out of place to him. Seeing nothing from the inside Haxorus decided to risk sticking the tip of his snout just outside of the door frame, warily testing the air for hints of danger. Now that he was somewhat closer to where the noise came from, Haxorus could now detect a faint scent in the air. It was strange and yet somehow familiar to him, seeming to waft up throughout the entire area. It was rather pleasant smell, reminding him of when he was still just a little axew exploring outside of his cave amid the blooming of Spring.

And that was precisely what unnerved him: the smell of Spring in the middle of Autumn, when the trees normally started shedding their leaves and the flowers no longer bloomed in preparation for Winter. Unsure what to make of the out-of-place scent, Haxorus carefully set one clawed foot outside of the door, stopped, then repeated the action with the other one. His thick tail still in the doorway, Haxorus glanced around at the dense forest around him, though he was unable to glean much from it. Deciding that it was something to investigate in the morning, Haxorus turned to re-enter the decrepit building.

It was at that moment, however, that something slammed into him from the right, causing him to stumble awkwardly before righting himself. More surprised than hurt, he looked to see who his attacker was. What he saw a gurdurr, an extremely heavily muscled pokemon. As Haxorus regained his footing, his opponent flexed its massive in a show of strength. The display might have been more impressive if it was more than half the height of its adversary.

Wielding a red colored steel beam that its kind was know for carrying, the gurdurr swung the unconventional weapon around in a wide arc in another attempt knock Haxorus off of his feet. After backing away to avoid the blow, Haxorus proceeded to leap forward at his opponent with speed belied by his great size, his claws glowing a bright blue as they became charged with energy. They appeared as bright streaks as Haxorus struck the gurdurr, sending the muscular pokemon flying at least dozen yards away. As the gurdurr lay sprawled on the ground, Haxorus became aware of the voice of an unseen human call out,"Get up Gurdurr! Come on, shake it off!"

As Haxorus glanced around in an attempt to discern where the human was, he noted that his voice sounded older than the hatchlings that usually pursued him, meaning that he was likely more experienced and would be more of a challenge be rid of.

The gurdurr, still dazed from Haxorus' counter attack, seemed to have trouble finding its footing. Haxorus waited for it to recover, feeling as though it would have been unfair to strike an opponent while it was down. Which was why as soon as as the gurdurr was back on its feet Haxorus sped towards it, covering the distance between them in very little time, too little for the gurdurr to react in any way except to widen its eyes at the incoming dragon type. Swinging his head, Haxorus used his tusks to great effect, knocking his opponent down again. Despite his unwillingness to strike his adversary while it was downed, Haxorus had absolutely no qualms with pummeling the poor pokemon while it stood.

Since it appeared that the gurdurr was out for good this time, a stream of red light shot out from under the cover of a nearby pine, enveloping the fallen pokemon as its form became insubstantial, then returned to its place origin. Now that he knew where to look, Haxorus glared angrily at the shadowy figure as it stepped into the light of the moon, revealing himself to a middle aged man in a worn gray trench coat

"So, the rumors are true after all",he said with a hint of awe in his tone as he gazed at Haxorus, who was less pleased with the encounter. The large pokemon was sorely tempted to deal with the man himself, but he restrained himself from taking any such action. Not only would it have hardly been a fair duel, Haxorus did not want the reputation that came with harming a human. Then it would not just be the weakling trainers that he would have to avoid, but the police force and rangers as well.

With a flourish that seemed unnecessary to Haxorus the man procured a red and white sphere from within the folds of his coat before throwing it into the air. It burst open in a flash of bright light that momentarily Haxorus. When his eyesight cleared he saw standing before him was the gigantic quadrupedal form of a scolipede. The insect like pokemon reared up its small pointed head and let out a low hiss as the rows of claws along the length of its neck bristled in obvious anticipation of the coming fight. It looked to be Haxorus' equal in size. Whether or not it was his equal in strength was about to be decided as Haxorus readied himself for another bout.

The man gave a command, and the scolipede jutted its head forward as it spat needles of hardened venom at Haxorus. Covering his face, the axe jaw pokemon felt the bits of solidified poison tap harmlessly against his armor. The attack ceased, Haxorus looked up to see that the scolipede was now barreling straight towards him. Plowed into by the pokemons attack, Haxorus was sent sprawling.

Of all the stupid tricks to fall for, letting his opponent distract him to close the distance between was one that Haxorus felt he should have seen coming from a mile away.

Unexpectedly Haxorus began to feel something well up inside of him. It felt as though all of the frustration and anger that he felt for being disturbed had suddenly began to concentrate into a broiling cauldron of fury that tore within him for release, and he began to visibly shake from the sheer ferocity of it. But Haxorus would not allow himself to give in to the anger, and he quickly stifled it, almost desperately trying to keep the rage in check. It had not yet become necessary to unleash it, nor would it ever be, not if he wanted to avoid causing  serious harm not only to himself but to everything around him.

However, in the brief time it took for Haxorus to calm himself the scolipede was able to land another hit. Fighting back, Haxorus slashed at the pokemon with his claws, leaving glowing streaks where it had been struck. His opponent recoiled but did not fall, which was all the incentive that Haxorus needed to continue attacking. Before he could follow through however, the human issued another command, and the scolipede let out a piercing shriek, its jagged horn like antennae vibrating as the sound tore through the night air. Haxorus clutched his head in surprise and pain, and he started to stumble backward.

then, unexpectedly, his right foot stepped out into open air, and Haxorus tumbled down a steep downhill slope. The fall only took a few moments, but it felt like minutes to the disoriented dragon type. When he finally came to stop Haxorus quickly picked himself up off the ground, expecting another blow to come his way. When none came he momentarily confused, until the dizziness finally wore and he realized that his fall had taken him away from his adversary. He knew It would not be long until the human caught up with him, but for the time being Haxorus allowed himself a brief respite. He looked himself over to see if he had suffered any injury from his fall, but other than a few new bumps and scratches on his armor that would eventually heal in time, he was fine; a testament to his species resilience.

All the same however, Haxorus knew he would have to move on if he wanted to get some distance between him and the human. Maybe he could lure the little cretin somewhere where he would have to fight on Haxorus' terms, rather than sneaking up on him like a coward. Dusting himself off, Haxorus began to trek deeper into the woods. But no more than a few minutes later, as he walked among the places that even he was seldom familiar with, Haxorus came across something rather strange.

It was a statue, resting on a great piece of stone that was almost as tall as he was. Haxorus stepped closer to investigate, and he saw that the statue itself was of a rapidash, an equine pokemon with a flaming mane and tail, reared up on its hind legs and as though it were about to gallop away. But as he looked closer at it he there was something strange about the statue. The mane and tail did not quite resemble the flames that were typical of the pokemon, but that was not only difference. In all his life, Haxorus had never heard of a rapidash with wings before. The wings were large and feathery, not  unlike those of a braviary, and rested just above the shoulders.

As Haxorus gazed at the strange statue in both wonder and confusion, he noticed that both it and the stone it was resting on had been polished to the point of mirror like smoothness. This of course was also odd to him, as there was simply no way this thing could remain in this forest and stay in such pristine condition, not without regular maintenance. And as far as Haxorus knew, no one came out this far into the forest on a regular basis, let alone just to care for a solitary statue. So what was it doing here?

Curious, Haxorus stepped closer to it to get a better look. But when he did he started feel an odd sensation that seemed to come up from all around him. Thinking that he was about to be attacked, Haxorus glanced all around for any sign of his opponent, but could find nothing. There was only him, and the statue. With a start he realized that was where the feeling was coming from. The statue! Inching closer to it Haxorus could tell that it was definitely the source of the of the energy, and it was unlike anything that he had ever encountered before.

For a moment Haxorus was almost tempted to reach out and touch it, but he quickly purged the temptation from his thoughts, feeling that if was unfamiliar then it was likely dangerous. Maybe when he had dealt with the human he would investigate it some other time.

"There you are."

Speaking of which. . .

Turning to face his pursuer, Haxorus was once again graced with the unpleasant sight of the man in the trench coat, with the familiar magenta form of a scolipede standing next to him.

"I certainly hope your worth all of this trouble," the man said. At his signal the scolipede let out a low hiss as an orb of white colored energy began to form between its horns. Knowing what was coming, Haxorus braced himself by crossing his arms in front of himself in a defensive posture in preparation of throwing up a barrier between him and his opponent. But when he did this the tip of tail brushed against the surface of the statues stone foundation, but instead of scraping against it, his tail fazed into the stone stone, which rippled like water around it. Startled by the feeling Haxorus glanced behind him to see the surface of the stone appearing to shimmer in the moonlight. His confusion and shock was interrupted though when the scolipede let loose with a hyper charged beam of light at him, and Haxorus, unable to bring up his defense in time, was thrown backward by the impact straight into the stone.

As the dust settled and things could once again be seen clearly, both the man and the scolipede were shocked to see that the Rare shiny haxorus and the statue had disappeared.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Haxorus had been struck by the scolipedes attack, it felt to him as though he had rammed head on by a charging boufalant. Oddly enough that was among the least of his concerns at the moment, as he now found himself flailing helplessly in what appeard to him like a tunnel of swirling lights and color. As he hurdled through the strange realm of color, Haxorus began to suspect that he might have hit his head during his fall and that he was now hallucinating. But as he thought about it, Haxorus knew that was likely not the case. He saw the his tail pass into the stone, and he felt it swirl like water. And when he had been hit, he had felt his entire body become enveloped by it. This only left the question of what was happening to him now.

Haxorus apparently did not have any time left to ponder it, as the lights suddenly began to grow brighter and brighter until he could see nothing else. Hr clenched his eyes and shielded his face with his arms, but the light was still blinding to him.

Then, as abruptly as he had been thrown into this weird dimension, everything became dark. And with the feeling of suudenly being dropped on to hard ground, Haxorus slipped into unconsciousness.
