Scholar of Friendship

by SCP Pinkamena

Chapter 1: In the Age of Anciets... the land was unformed...

"What is it that you want, truly?" I asked, looking at the young pony. She looked up at me, amazed at my size. As it turned out, Aldia was transformed into some hybrid of an Arch Tree and other creatures. I could feel the roots clamoring around within this body, the one I called mine. Yet... I can't help it but to feel, touched by him. It made me feel important.

"I... want ponies to know true friendship, to understand tolerance and love. That is what I truly want!" She told me, her little white wings buzzing with excitement.

I only chuckled.

"Yes," I said, my voice taking the tone of many others. "That is what you truly want? Love, and Tolerance, and Friendship... Than I shall give it to you... In 100 years time, you will take in a unicorn foal by the name of Starswirl. He will be your one key to the many locks on the door that will lead you to your goal." I said, giving her prophecy. "You may not interfere will his studies, unless he asks of you. You mustn't interfere with his descent either."

She only nodded her head.

"Fledgling Alicorn, may we meet again?" I asked before disappearing into the floor for another 100 or so years, enough of a slumber worthy of Dragons. It wasn't until I felt, something... horrible... I had to laugh.

"My, oh my! It seems that I was late to the party!" I laughed merrily. I had not expected to go away for that long. From what I could tell, I had sadly missed Starswirl's descent by about 200 years. While I felt something before, most likely the Elements, I felt something stronger years later.

Luna's Descent into Dark... My oh, my... I missed it. Wait! I know! Just focus, where are they... Good, they're just about to start...

"Dearest sister, please stop!" Celestia yelled, with tears in her eyes. Nightmare Moon only laughed at her pitiful older sibling. As she dashed toward Celestia, that's when I made my entrance. A shockwave made Nightmare flew in one direction, and Celestia in the other, with my back turned toward Nightmare Moon.

"Ah Celestia, it's been a while. I was originally going to wake up when Starswirl went mad, but I seem to have missed my mark by about 200 years... I love the castle by the way." I said, looking at the decor, ignoring the pained grunts of Nightmare Moon. "I must say, you look much better than before when I last saw you. Such a tiny, frail thing you were... With that still fresh in my mind, did you succeed in your goal?" I asked, while she still stared at me, incredibly.

"What is the meaning of this!? Celestia, you summoned this creature to defeat me?" Nightmare laughed and shot a beam of magic at me. The hit was about as powerful as a level 80 Crystal Soul Spear at point blank. My flames died, as did my patience.

"Many thought they could defeat me... One tried to electrocute me, another tried stab me to death... Another then tried his magic on me, but ultimately they all failed. Luna, I will give you one chance, stop this childish banter, or else I will strip you off ALL your power..." I said, my flames steadily rising, Celestia had to back away from a sudden fear. Luna had suddenly grown much shorter, realizing her mistake, and then she laughed.

Harder than I could ever achieve.

She shot me again, and again, and again... Each time was getting stronger. First an 80, then a level 95, then a 99... On the last shot however, I roared with fury, and my flames dissolved the oncoming magic. "Child, you will never see the light of day, or the dark of night again. I will show something worse than death... My vines lurched out of me, and grabbed Nightmare Moon. Her and Celestia's screams were deaf in my non-existent ears. I focused my own magic into one vine, and when it was strong enough, I touched her back. She screamed, and cursed, yet I made my own, one that could not be said but one that could be seen.

The Dark Sign... Those stories of zombie ponies? They're real, I made them. I am a curse, so I will share it. Nightmare's cries were deafening, along with Celestia's, and when I finished, I dropped her. Her eyes flew around in her head, she coughed violently... Perhaps what I did was too cruel... then again, life is cruel too, just as cruel as undeath...

"Damn it all! Why did you do it?! I had this under control!" Celestia shouted at me. I rounded her as best as someone like me could.

"NO! CHILD YOU DID NOT!" She started to charge her magic, and I began choking her with my branches. "STRIKE ME AND YOU WILL KNOW THE SAME PAIN AS YOUR SISTER!" Her magic faded, and I dropped her on the stone floor. "In a thousand year time, you will have a student who will cure her of the Nightmare, but I am not certain about the curse." I said to her evenly. My flames died and I began to sink back in the ground, not before Celestia said something.

"You're a monster..." She said quietly

"The only one we have to fear are the ones inside of ourselves, my dear." I said as I completely disappeared from her sight. Perhaps I was too harsh. Perhaps I was too kind, but it doesn't matter. While pieces of me long to go home, I was perfectly contempt here. Here, where the souls were still fresh, and ripe. Yes, perfectly contempt, despite my guilt for everything I felt. I found something out about Aldia, he feels everything all at once. Pleasure, pain, happiness, sadness, guilt, rage... The whole shebang. Not only that, but he took in the latent magic, using it to make the voices he-- I speak through.

I had lost my own voice, millennia ago, long before the birth of Discord himself. I only had fragments, a syllable or two... My real voice had died long ago, and if I had ever found a way to regain human form, I doubt that the voice would be mine... I feel a presence, the Elements are at work once more... I shall arrive until after they have finished. I don't want to know what would if I got caught in the cross-fire...
