Chapter 1: Stress Needs Rest

Stress Needs Rest

The young purple alicorn skimmed through her wide selection of books, only pausing for a moment to yank one from its place.

"Potions and Spells! Take a note, Spike. I'll be needing this soon."

Twilight handed her book into the safe claws of her small dragon, and best assistant yet, Spike.

"No problem, Twilight!"

Spike tucked the dusty book under his arm, observing as the Princess gazed among her many books.

Twilight was still getting over the fact that she had recently gained a huge, adorned castle- it was perfect for social gatherings and parties...but Twilight wasn't that sort of pony. She'd prefer to relax inside and study.

"The problem is," Twilight groaned, "When you have this many books, it's virtually impossible to find the ones you need."

She looked down at Spike for some sort of reassurance, hoping he knew of a way to find what she desired.

Before Spike could even open his mouth in reply, the door was noisily swung open, three excitable fillies stepping inside.

"Hi, Twilight!" Apple Bloom greeted, already inspecting the area which surrounded her.

"Oh...hello, girls. How may I help you today?" Twilight said, slightly taken aback by the sudden entrance. Any normal pony would of found it impossible to set hoof on the royal grounds, let alone make their way into contact with the Princess herself.

"We need some books- to study!" Scootaloo flapped her pair of miniature wings in vain, only managing to hover from the ground by a few inches. She landed on the cold, marble floor with a thud, the three younger ponies giggling childishly.

"I see. I could probably help you guys," Spike said, glancing over at Twilight. Twilight smiled back at him approvingly.

"This way, then." Spike beckoned the ponies towards him, leading them to the heart of the library. Twilight was left alone yet again, slumped against a small tower of her own books. She let out a soft moan- she'd been through a lot of stress lately. Closing her eyes, only silence met the ears of Twilight. This was strange for Twilight to not hear a voice or two- she was so used to answering queries and putting others in the right direction.

"Maybe I just need some more rest..."

"Thanks again for the books, Twi!"

Twilight's eyelids snapped open, awakening her from her slumber. She nodded towards them as they headed out of the door, then wearily got to her hooves. The door was slammed shut- the fillies were no longer heard. The purple pony straightened her mane, then began sorting through the books yet again.

"I must of fallen asleep, Spike. Well, time to get back to work!"

Twilight was greeted by an empty hush.

"Spike?"

Her head swivelled towards the direction of Spike's usual working quarters. There, somehow sitting upright, was Spike. He was snuggled up against a few blankets in peace. Twilight smiled- she wouldn't dare wake him now.

"Goodnight, Spike." She murmured, planting a kiss on his forehead, "Maybe it's time I go to bed, too..."
