Learning The Past
Chapter 4: Trails of Light
Previous Chapter Next ChapterThe unicorn was off in a heartbeat, but curiosity had struck her mind. She had wanted to see the pony that lived in the house. Without notifying the zebra she set off in the direction of the abandoned house, hoping to see somepony. Little did she know that the decision would change her life.
The trail was shorter now that her health has been restored. Once she knew she was headed in the right direction, fear entered her mind. What if the pony was barbaric or a killer? The thoughts were invading her head. She was afraid of just seeing the house, but she had to know what lived in there.
The house was found, her fear was at an immeasurable level. She circled the house looking for a way in. The only thing she found were claw marks. This was a sign telling the pony to exit he area, but she continued.
The door creaked open.
She saw a pony walk out of the door. His coat was pure white and his mane was pitch black. His cutie mark was a black ink blot. He then proceeded to yell.
“I KNOW YOU’RE OUT HERE! COME OUT!”
The unicorn was startled and made a load noise as she quickly hit the house wall. She thought that she was going to die. As a last act she would show herself to the pony.
“I’m coming out, please don’t hurt me.”, pleaded the frightened mare.
“I was never going to, please come in. Make yourself at home. It’s been a while since I’ve last let anypony in here.”
The mare went into the house, with extreme caution. She was surprised to find it looking amazing. The mysterious stallion had cleaned it for a long time. They were walking on top of a grave. The whole house was a memorial.
“So what is your name? I’m Two Sides.”
“My name is Radiant Beam. I’m trying to find my way to Ponyville.”
“Ponyville, good luck. I couldn’t make it there. Well, now I can.”
The mare noticed that the stallion was wearing clothes. He was sporting gloves and a blazer; the colors matched his coat and mane. They completely covered his front hooves and his back. She found this suspicious. She asked about the clothes.
“Why do you where clothes? I mean every other pony don’t.”
“I’m afraid that I can’t tell you that. If I do I’ll have to make sure you never leave this place" The stallion then noticed the horn on Beam's head. "Wait, you’re a unicorn. I need your magic.”
“What do you mean ‘need my magic’?”
“Can you summon, lets say, a spirit to speak? Please say yes.”
Beam said yes, she could, but only for five minutes. This was all the time the stallion needed. He told the mare to call on Silver Shield, a pony who had passed. The Unicorn then proceeded to ask the mare’s spirit to speak with them. She exited the room when the spirit manifested itself. From the other room she heard crying and hysterical yelling. This was all she heard for three of the five minutes.
Then the two ponies began to speak coherently.
“Why are you wearing clothes again? I thought I told you that you don’t need to.”
“I wear them for a reason. To make sure no one gets hurt.”
“Take them off, for me.”
As Beam heard this, her curiosity had reached its peak and she then opened the door slightly. She was now able to see what was happening. He began with his gloves. What they were hiding was amazing. His front hooves were a metallic black and had glowing white lights on them.
“So you weren’t lying when you said you were an engineer. What do those things do?”
“They increase my strength tenfold, and work as materializers. I can’t believe I found the pats to make these.”
He closed his eyes and stuck out his right hoof. A dim light was being emitted from his hoof and at that instant the light vanished. In his hoof was a razor.
The snooping mare was attempting to comprehend what had just happened. Her mind was blown and the only thing she was able to do, was stare, mouth open. She was hoping that he would take off his coat; she wanted to see the surprise under that layer of leather.
“So do you still wanna see? It’s up to you Silver.”
The spiritual pony nodded for him to continue. He began to take of his coat. The suspense that was building was unbearable for Beam. She wanted to tear off the coat and inspect his back. See knew that would cause her untimely demise. The coat was off.
“What are those bars?” Asked Silver, who looked as though shock had hit her hard.
“I think it’s best if I show you, stand back.”
The stallion stood upright. He closed his eyes and began to breathe from his nostrils. He tensed up every muscle on his body and, with a flash; two wings appeared on his back. They were white and looked like they were holograms. He was levitating and speaking at the same time.
“Told you. You had to see it, I couldn’t explain it.”
At this point the unicorn had seen enough. She closed the door and ran out. The front door was locked. Two Sides appeared, naked, and asked if she could help him with something. She immediately said yes to the proposal, hoping that this would keep her from dying.
“She still has a good thirty seconds left; help me tie her soul to this house. We both want this, please help us.”
“You want to tie her soul here? I’m not a spirit expert!”
“LISTEN TO ME! I WILL NOT LOSE HER A SECOND TIME! YOU ARE GOING TO HELP US!”
With that said they both galloped to the room only to find Silver dematerializing.
“NO, NO, NO, NOT AGAIN! I WILL NOT LOSE YOU!”
His eyes turned white and his metal hooves began to glow. Along with this the unicorn had her magic ready.
“YOU AREN’T GONNA LEAVE A SECOND TIME! YOU’LL BE HERE, WITH ME!”
The pair stirred so much magic that the resulting light of the action had enough power to blind any Pegasus for a fifteen mile radius. They had given their all and are not sure of the result. Beam had fainted, her energy was depleted and she couldn’t continue. The light had died and Two Sides had fainted as well. Their sleep was deep and peaceful.
The sleep that they had induced on themselves was finally broken. Two Sides arose and began to cry. Beam was under the impression that they had failed. Dispite not knowing the two ponies, she began to shed tears. Until Two Sides let out a powerful yell.
“YOU DIDN’T LEAVE!”
The mission had been accomplished. Beam still did not have the strength needed to stand. The stallion aided her and called for Ditzy Doo to bring the unicorn to her house. The Pegasus responded quickly, getting to the house in ten minutes.
They all met in the yard of the home. Silver had to hide herself from Ditzy, because she did not want to scare her. That thought was destroyed when Two Sides explained the entire story. Ditzy stared at the door hoping to see her lost friend. That was when Silver appeared directly in front of the Pegasus.
“Listen Ditzy,” said the mare, who stood in front of her friend as a spirit, “Let her stay with you for as long as she needs to, when she’s ready take her to Ponyville. Okay.”
The Mail mare nodded and was off with the Unicorn. In the middle of the flight, Beam spoke,
“So, is it alright if I bunk with you? I don’t wanna go to Ponyville just yet.”
“Sure thing, I hope you don’t mind kids.”
The Unicorn was puzzled at this question, but it did not affect her. She had made three new friends within her first week back in Equestria. The torch that had burned inside of her heart was ablaze. So they both were riding into the sun, with new lessons learnt and worries diminished. The hope that was lost was found again by the Unicorn.
