Chapter 2: A Sleepin' in the Sun
Previous ChapterIt was around 1:15 in the afternoon and Applejack was tending to her apples out in the apple fields. She was bucking, and kicking as many trees as she could before sun down came. Although she still had plenty of time to get the last tree, she felt she was running out of time. Over to right of the acres, Big Mac was doing as many as he could. Over to the left of the acres, Sweetie Belle was doing all that her little fillie hooves would allow her to do. Apple Jack took her hoof and wiped the sweat off of her forehead. "Woowe! The sun sure is doing a number on us, ain't it. It's just burning me all up. Maybe we 'ought to break for lunch soon, y'all!" Her voiced carried over the trees, both the nude ones and the ones still with apples on them. Big Mac and Sweetie Belle both nodded their heads in unison.
They took down a few more apples from a few more trees then headed in to their house on the hill. Granny Smith was dozing away as she normally did on those days. That's what she would do, sleep, eat, or talk, then do it all over again. It was surprising she hadn't kicked the bucket yet. Apple Jack took the horrible thought from her head. "Hey Granny, Granny, we're gonna fix ourselves some yer lunch. You want any?"
Granny Smith woke up with a start, sipping the saliva back into her mouth. "Wait, what, ugh, who said that?"
"Granny, it's just us, your kin." Sweetie Bell hoped on over to her granny and gave her a hug. "Apple Jack was just asking if you wanted lunch. We're about to eat."
Granny shook her head and started to rock back and forth in her favorite rocking chair. "Oh no, you youngins, I'm k' where I'm at. Y'all enjoy ya lunch." The three youngins as Granny Smith called them headed into the kitchen to fix them an apple sandwich along with apple cider, and apple pie.
When lunch was done, their bellies were round and full. They drunk some more of the cider, and the three of them settled out to continue the day's work of bucking all the apples out of the trees. The next day, they would have to decipher which ones were good and which ones were bad, but first, it was important to just get them all out of the air and onto the ground in their respectable buckets.
Once outside, they split up into their acres again, and started back up. As Apple Jack was bucking, her eyes began to waiver, and close. It caught her off guard, and she was quite angry at herself for slipping up like that. But then as she continued to work, it started to take hold of her once more. The sleep that is and eventually she gave in. "It wouldn't be wise for me to keep bucking when I'm tired as a wall weasel after breaking and entering. Let me sit for a spell." The tree she was bucking had enough shade to put distance between her and the sun, and she let her eyes come close right after she tilted her hat downward to give her space.

"Apple Jack...Apple Jack...APPLE JACK!" Apple Jack awoke with a fright, nearly knocking her books off from her desk....desk...what was she doing sitting at a desk? She glanced around and saw she was not only sitting at a desk but also appeared to be in a class room. She pushed back her chair, and noticed all the funny looking creatures around her. She then looked down at her hands-hands, she had hands. Hands is what Twilight told her about when she went to the human world. She was a human! She glanced around once again, at the teacher who yelled out her name, and her class mates. She saw Rainbow Dash quickly writing on a piece of paper, and she saw...was that Sunset Shimmer?
"Sunset Shimmer?" Sunset darted her eyes here and there.
"You shouldn't be calling out Sunset Shimmer's name, you shouldn't be sleeping in class either." The teacher hissed at her.
"Class?" Apple Jack said.
"Don't play stupid either. One last slip up like this and I'll have to report you to Assistant Principal Luna."
With the mention of Assistant Principal's Luna's name, Rainbow Dash let out a 'pff'', as if annoyed by the name itself. Apple Jack looked at her again still wondering what she was writing. But not wanting to get in trouble, and still confused, she decided to just stay awake and focus on the class assignment.
A few minutes later, Apple Jack felt something hit her hat. She was still wearing her hat without a notice from the teacher. Nonetheless, she looked down and saw the waded up piece of paper on her desk. She looked around the class room to see where it came from. When she caught eyes with Rainbow Dash, she knew it came from her. Not wanting to get in trouble again, she made sure the teacher's back was turned before she opened the note. And she would try as she might to not be so loud when opening the letter. Well, at least she would find out why Rainbow Dash was so urgent in writing it. What's gotten into her that afternoon?
_____
Apple Jack awoke to find Sweetie Belle and Big Mac looking down at her. Apple Jack tilted her hat back up, confused by her dream. It was her first time seeing a human so up close and personal, and there were so many of them too. Apple Jack looked at her siblings once more. When she glanced over at each of their acres, she noticed they were both done with their work, but because she dozed off, she still had to finish her acres. She sighed.
"Well you know what they say." She tried to brush it off. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull colt."
"That's what 'they' say, Apple Jack, not you." Responded Sweetie Belle.
And of course, Big Mac must have agreed with his younger sister because he said, "Yep!"
Author's Notes:
My goal is to pretty much get better with each chapter. And just see how it goes/grows. But only time will tell. =) I'm also still getting used to this site; it's kind of confusing with the categorization. I don't even think I categorized it right. =/
