Chapter 22: Epilogue

Epilogue

Dear Princess Celestia,

Twilight told me that, whenever she would learn an important life lesson, she used to write you a letter. Well, I thought I might write you one myself, even though I’m not sure what the lesson is just yet.

We are currently mid-flight over the Atlantic Ocean en route to Rio de Janeiro to visit my sister, Alexis, her wife, Paige, and their son Sammie.  My nephew, who has always been interested in pony culture, will no doubt have lots of questions for Twilight. He might have also had some questions for me but, as we agreed, my entrance into Equestria as a human and return from ponydom to humanity will stay a secret for now. However, as Twilight and Spike sleep their way through the flight, I find myself wondering what I might tell my brother if he asked me what I could tell him about my experiences over the last two months.

I realize that I would have to start by telling him that, for a long time, I had let my emotions get the better of me, make me bitter, and, as consequence, hold an entire species under suspicion and fear where none was deserved. This is something I regret deeply, as it has always been my goal to be better than that kind of thinking. By extension, I would also tell him that all sentient beings, be they ponies, dragons, or humans, deserve a fair shake and that he shouldn’t judge them by their appearance, no matter how strange or unfamiliar it may be.

Third, (though you might disagree with me slightly on this) don’t be afraid to follow a hunch through a few locked doors; it may lead you to an incredible adventure. On that note, I will take care to ‘forget’ the key to that particular locked door.

Fourth, that sometimes life hands you choices more difficult than any other you’ve ever faced and that you might have to face them alone. In those cases, you should act slowly and cautiously because those decisions may be among the most important ones of your life.

Fifth: Take stock of who you are and what makes you ‘you’, and never let go. Having that one rock in your life means you’ll always have something to lean on, giving you that little extra bit of strength when you’re just barely hanging on.

And sixth, that change is a continual part of our existence. Making the best of that change and continuing to carry on is probably the best way to deal with any kind of change; good or bad. In other words, enjoy life, no matter how things may seem on the surface.

I hope you might find some additional meaning in those individual insights that I’ve gained. If you do, I’d appreciate it if you shared them with me. In the meantime, I’d like to, again, thank you for allowing me to teach at your school. Princess Luna was a wonderful assistant and, as for your students, I think you have some very promising young physicists and engineers in your midst. Perhaps, someday (presumably when Twilight is tired of walking on two legs), I could teach in your halls again.

Until our next encounter, I wish you and your sister the best.

Signed,
