Blood Red Shadows
Chapter 57: Act III, Chapter 10: Breaking and Exiting
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAlex sat in the target range, personally testing some of the weapons they had onboard the ship.
Celestia, Luna, and Ozpin had most of their experimental weapons that haven't even been tested yet in there, and Alex had been given permission to test them. He frequently did so when he had the time, this was one of those special moments.
Besides, Karis's ghost was really starting to bug him a little.
Wait, is it safe to have a firing range in an aircraft carrier, with the engine room, the fuel tanks, the prison cells, and the ballast tanks not far off from where he was?
Ah, f**k it.
He pried the metal off one of the containers with a crowbar, and pulled out one of the weapons inside, marveling at it's beauty.
Checking the markings on it, he saw that this particular model was a double-barrel battle rifle, capable of switching between full-auto and a burst fire mode. The weapon required two 30 round 7.58 mm bullets, placed smack dab on the 90 and 270 degree angle mark, complete with their own charging handles at the 45 and 315 degree marks. The rear sight was supplemented with an advanced Ver-Kai sight and foldable stock. Overall, an impressive gun. A quick look at the markings at the left-hand side labelled it as the 'VBR Mk. 9'.
Loading a mag on each side and sharply jerking back the charging handle after, he pointed the experimental weapon down the range, aiming at a steel target about 125 yards away. Ridiculous waste of space, but then again, this was the Iliad, a ship half the size of an airship that decimated a whole town.
He would set the action to burst, just to see how it worked.
Pointing the weapon down range and using his pseudo-Aura, he gently squeezed the trigger.
Five rounds spewed out of the weapon, tagging the steel plate. The sheer force of the bullets hitting the plate resulted in a residual loud ring.
He grabbed a pair of binoculars, scanning for that plate...
Five holes, three on the left and two on the right, he had aimed well.
"Testing of the VBR Mark 9 is 4% complete." Iris chimed.
"I'm sorry, 4 percent?!" Alex tensed.
"Not only do you have to check the rate of fire, you have to test for reliability, condition, and practicality. You only fired five rounds, total." Iris explained.
"Alright, fine." Alex rolled his eyes, unloading the mags, prying the charging handle open, clicking the safety back on, and placing a cover on each barrel before hopping down the range to install more targets.
"At least safety is still a concern." Iris quipped.
"Like my dad always said, 'act like the firearm's always loaded'." Alex recited.
"Speaking of your father, what did you think about finding out your true heritage?" Iris wondered.
"Another surprise psychology test, eh?" Alex smirked.
"Yes, Admiral." She replied evenly.
"At least you're honest. To be honest, I wasn't sure what to think. On one hand, my mom and dad lied to me for most of my life, but on the other, they haven't lied to me about anything else. At least, I don't think so." Alex answered.
"Are you saying you really don't mind?" Iris wondered.
"I do mind. Real 'existential crisis' level shit." Alex scoffed.
The alarms blared as Alex placed the last target.
"Care to explain?" Alex asked.
"Three intruders have been discovered, three crewmen are dead and are heading towards the prison!" Iris reported.
"Any names?" Alex asked.
"No, sir. Either they aren't on Equestrian or Remnantian databases, or they're incognito."
"Any DNA samples scanned in? Pictures?" Alex asked, putting on the helmet, for he was wearing the old Goliath Mk. VI armor he kept from when he first escaped to Remnant, he had the helmet temporarily outfitted with a HUD until Vinyl and the other technicians and armorers could finish a new Overcharge V2.
"Loading security camera feeds to your HUD now." Iris replied as Alex loaded the VBR as well as the Blitzklinge Revolver.
Alex saw two women and one man, all armed and attacking the other crew. They knew they failed miserably at the 'stealth' card and were now simply bludgeoning their way to the prison room. They were close.
"Should I call for backup, sir?" Iris asked, the scroll and cellphone numbers of the Team Unity members on the right side of the HUD.
"Negative. Tell them I'll intercept, and to just make sure they didn't hack into the systems and shit." Alex ordered.
"They initiated a malware download, but I stopped it and am currently deleting the malware." Iris explained.
"Hacking an A.I? Idiots." Alex mumbled.
He walked to the prison doorway, it was already forced open.
"Who the hell are you?" Omicron hoarsely asked.
"You don't recognize us? Moron." One of the intruders chided.
"Doesn't matter, we have orders to get you out of here." Another asserted.
"I think not." Alex walked inside, closing the hydraulic door and locking it.
"Oh, the Admiral's here. Where's the A-Team?" The male intruder mocked.
"If I thought I really can't handle you four, then why the hell did I lock myself in here?" Alex asked contemptfully.
Adam stood up, taking his weapons back from one of the other intruders.
"You. Put him out of his misery. You two, come with me." He curtly ordered, pointing to a short girl in a black Goth Lolita style dress. Omicron and the other two intruders destroyed the door and ran out.
"So, that dress just for show, or-" Alex asked before getting smacked in the face with the umbrella she carried.
She smacked him a few more times, finishing the chain with a jab to the navel.
Alex slammed against the wall, trying to process what had just happened.
"Okay...no." Alex charged up against the short woman, trying to kick her only for the umbrella to block his attack, giving her opportunities to counter, further infuriating Alex.
"Might I suggest shooting the Umbrella?" Iris asked.
"Huh. That's a thought." Alex shrugged.
He charged again, side kicking the girl, only for her to block it. He rose the VBR and fired a few bursts through the Umbrella.
The girl looked at the umbrella, infuriated by the holes in the intricately woven material.
"Hahaha. Get wrecked, scrub. Who brings an umbrella to a fight anyways?" Alex snickered.
The girl's eyes changed color from green to white and brown.
"What the actual-"
The girl attacked again, fury fueling her attacks, leaving Alex at her mercy until she finally swung the Umbrella upwards into the crotch.
Which might have worked if he didn't have the armor.
"Hey. You. Really?!" He rolled his eyes before grasping her by the arm.
Alex looked straight at the you.
"Hey, reader. Do me a few favors. Open another tab and look up 'Rules Of Nature' on YouTube. Scroll about a minute into the song and play when you read again. Destoyer's too f**kin' lazy to get a link."
He raised her straight upwards, bringing her down and bashing her against the ground, before taking her umbrella and sharply kicking her into a wall, breaking her umbrella in two with his knee.
The girl's rage reached insane heights, eyes turning white and were noticeably alit with burning intensity.
She leaped, trying to kick him only for Alex to grab her by the foot and start spinning.
Using his Adenienite lightning power Aura thingy, he manipulated his body to move at lightning speed before loosening his grip, sending her flying through the wall and knocking her out cold.
Alex looked back at you.
"You can stop playing the song now. Thanks for following orders, I promote you to the rank of corporal or whatever." Alex dismissively thanked you before bringing his attention to the girl.
"You're under arrest, you have the right-- actually, you don't have any rights, I was just f**king with you." He carried her unconscious body into another Max Security cell, tossed it onto the bed and walked away.
Alex profoundly spat to his right after taking off his helmet.
"Amateurs."
----
Twilight dodged another swipe from the rogue's sword, only to be met by a boot to the flank.
She'd been fighting the Inquisitor's pawns for the past few minutes, and was failing miserably.
The Inquisitor was standing nearby, looking almost unimpressed as the two rogues continued to beat her senseless. She blocked what she could and even attacked, but her magic was beginning to weaken and it was only a matter of time before it would fail her.
That Inquisitor merely stood watch, not even bothering to intervene. She realized that he was examining them, testing them, just as Celestia had in her filly-hood.
In a final attempt to protect herself, she used her magic to create a shield around her body, protecting her until her magic finally gave out.
She was barely affected by the flurry of kicks from the male Rogue, but the girl did significantly more damage to her shield.
Pony feathers! Her blade sliced through her shield and cut her back open!
She crumpled to the floor in surrender and exhaustion. She couldn't hurt so much as a fly now.
"What now?" The male Rogue asked.
"She's beaten. Kill her." The Inquisitor ordered.
"With pleasure." The girl raised both of her weapons, prepared to deal a killing blow, a sadistic smile stretched across her face.
Twilight braced herself for the end, closing her eyes tightly.
"Twilight!!" Rainbow shouted, slamming into the girl before she could kill her.
Twilight looked up to see Weiss and Yang fighting the two, with Vanoss, Lui, Nogla, and Mini providing cover fire.
The two evaded the gunfire and the Huntresses' attacks with ease.
"Deal with them. I'm done here." The inquisitor leapt away, heading for the observation deck.
"Rainbow! Get Twilight!" Weiss ordered.
"We can handle ourselves here!" Lui added.
Rainbow nodded, picking up the Alicorn and speeding off into a stairwell.
"You'll be okay, Twilight." Rainbow assured.
"I'm... Not worried about myself.." Twilight weakly coughed.
----
Alex snuck up the stairwell to the observation deck, from what he heard on the comms, Omicron was headed up here. God knows why.
"Adam! This has gone on too far!!" Alex heard Blake yell.
"You lose a leg and you're still trying to defy me? Are you that delusional?" Omicron scowled.
Alex grabbed the next weapon in his experimental arsenal: a semi-automatic 3 round 25mm sniper rifle. Tearing off the scope using every ounce of his strength and ripping the 1.5 yard barrel in half, he loaded the weapon, locked the bolt in place, and snuck a bit further up the steps.
Blake and Omicron were engaged in a duel, Omicron using only simple but powerful attacks against Blake's comparatively more active combat style. In simpler terms, where Blake leaped around the battlefield, Omicron only remained in that one spot. Shockingly oblivious of Alex's presence.
He aimed precisely for Omicron's leg, slowly squeezing the trigger until he shot.
The rifle produced an immensely loud 'BOOM' accompanied by a grotesque ripping sound as the massive projective screamed through the air. Omicron deftly avoided the shot altogether, charging towards Alex with incredible speed, grabbing him by he neck, and tossing him onto the deck like a rag doll.
Alex picked himself up, coughing.
"How cute. You made a friend. Shame he has to die." Omicron spat.
"Leave him out of this!" Blake demanded.
"Like hell I'm not getting involved!" Alex retorted.
Omicron kicked Alex hard in the knee.
"I'll get to you later. For now. Let us grown ups have our talk." Omicron spat as Alex clutched the affected area in agony.
"That does it!" Alex defiantly retorted.
Alex stood up, equipping his Blitzklinge. Side-stepping next to Blake.
"Neither of you know when to quit." Omicron scoffed, swinging his blade in a wide arc.
Alex blocked the attack before ducking and swinging for Omicron's midsection.
"This is between me and Adam! Stay out of this!" Blake demanded.
"You must be as insane as he is if you think I'm leaving you to lose another limb!" Alex retorted, attacking Omicron again.
Before Omicron could counter, Blake leaped into the fray, blocking his attack before Alex pulled out the 25mm and fired again.
This shot was also a miss, zipping right past Omicron's ear, temporarily deafening him, most likely.
He struck again, slicing open the Equestrian Steel armor and cutting into Alex's flesh.
Though the pain was sickening, he grasped Omicron's blade, pulling him in and punching him again. Further damaging the mask.
Blake used this opportunity to get a few attacks in, evading Omicron's counters and tagging him in the sides.
Alex kicked him away, and Omicron skidded to a halt just before falling off the side.
Omicron sped towards Blake, grasped her by her new leg, and held her up.
"I'll claim my bounty now. You're next." He scowled at Blake before throwing her off the ledge.
He knew she'd be okay. But the idea still infuriated him. He stopped himself temporarily. He needed to ask.
"Tell me where I can find Kalos Prime." Alex ordered.
"Your methods and tactics are somewhat impressive for someone of your age. But still inferior. They will not save you." Omicron struck, locking blades with Alex with surprising strength.
As soon as Alex could, he struck Omicron on the side of the head before relentlessly slicing and dicing what he could.
"Hey, Omicron! I beat quite a few Inquisitors in one-on-one duels! Seven times in total! How would you like to be number eight?!" Alex buffed up, his courage growing.
He continued his attacks, but Omicron either dodged or tried to counter those attacks, only to be forced back into blocking due to Alex's sheer relentlessness.
"This ends here!" Omicron yelled, sheathing his blade before firing it at him, temporarily disorienting Alex and buying Omicron enough time to attack.
He was as unyielding as Alex, but much more simple about his attacks, to which Alex could simply grasp Omicron's wrist, twisting it to the right and kicking him.
Alex held both Blitzklinge and Omicron's sword in his hands, crossing them in an 'X' shape.
"Okay, how the hell am I able to do this-" Alex was immediately interrupted by a fist in the face. Omicron kicked off Alex's helmet, taking back his own sword and hacking at his chest.
Alex was knocked backwards, bleeding from the cut on his chest.
"It ends here, Earthling." Omicron raised his sword.
Alex coughed.
"That's where you're wrong." He raised both hands, sending out waves of red electricity, shocking the Inquisitor.
"I'm not from Earth. Not anymore." He raised his weapon.
Omicron sheathed his own blade, keeping his hand on the hilt, ready to attack.
"Now that you mention it, I'm not from Equestria either." Alex swung his weapon hard for Omicron's neck, Omicron blocked his attack, swinging again and cutting him at the shoulder.
"Nor am I from Remnant, or Los Santos." He shrugged off the attack, kicking Omicron in the kidney and swinging his weapon in around the same spot, only for Omicron to block his attacks.
"Then where am I from, you ask?" Alex slashed at Omicron's chest, successfully landing a blow, leaving a wide slash from Omicron's right shoulder to his lower-left.
"You. Tell. Me." Alex accompanied those words with several punches to the solar plexus. Knocking the wind out of his adversary before leg-sweeping him to the ground.
"How...how were you able to knock me down..?" Omicron wheezed.
Alex laughed slyly.
"You think you're the only one who fights in a 'laido' style?" Alex stepped hard on Omicron's back, kicking him in the gut.
"Interesting..." He stood up, punching Alex hard in the chest, hard enough to launch him onto the flight deck. Omicron leaped down from there, unsheathing his weapon.
"You wouldn't happen to know someone named Branwen, would you?" He smirked arrogantly.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Alex asked. Isn't that Qrow's last name?
"You're no help." Omicron kicked Alex in the ribs, stabbing him in the chest and pulling him up, the sword dragging upwards in his chest as he did.
Omicron twisted the blade inside Alex's chest, worsening the damage, before sharply jerking it out. Alex's blood sprayed out of the wound in a horrifying fashion.
"Alex!!!" He heard someone scream behind him.
Omicron was blasted into a jet, blowing it up and hopefully killing him.
Alex struggled to hold on to life, and he felt someone grab his shoulders and pull him up.
"Y-Yang..?" Alex spluttered.
He saw her inspect the wound, and she shook her head.
"It looks bad, I know. You'll be fine!" She assured, Alex knew she was just trying to stay calm for his sake if nothing else. She moved his right arm around her neck and helped him out or the battlefield.
Pain struck his backside again as his blood was blown out the other side again, Alex had been shot!
"I...I won't let you get away... Not without my bounty..." Omicron held his sheath, which apparently doubled as a rifle, and limped towards the two.
Yang eased him to the ground and attacked him, Omicron blocked a shot before using the hilt of the weapon to knock her to the ground and kicked her once she was down.
Omicron limped towards Alex again, the area around him starting to turn shades of red, black, and white as he reared his weapon back.
"Oh, f**k." Alex gaped. Omicron's trademark finisher, capable of slicing through literally anything. Moonslice.
"D-Die!!" He yelled Alex, who was by now gurgling blood.
He saw a shadow flicker behind Omicron, who looked almost surprised and he crumpled to the ground, crawling on his hands and knees. The rogues from earlier ran to him, grabbing either side and holding onto a rope ladder leading to a Bullhead, which quickly sped off.
Alex blinked tiredly, pain seeping from virtually everywhere on his body.
He felt two pairs of hands pull him up, the first being Yang's, the second...
"Here... You aren't going to die.. Not yet." Blake pulled him up, leaning him against another jet until a medic could get over to the flight deck.
With the medic, he saw Rainbow Dash and Kat. The four helped him onto the stretcher as the medic wrapped bandage around his wounds, from there, everything faded to black..
