Blood Red Shadows
Chapter 48: Act III, Chapter 1: The Iliad
Previous Chapter Next ChapterOnce the team got on the ship, things seemed to move along a bit more smoothly.
"GET AWAY FROM ME, VANOSS!" Delirious screamed, as Vanoss was currently chasing Delirious around the obscenely large flight deck.
The Iliad was about half the size of the Myriad in overall volume, but even so, Alex was surprised that the ship itself stayed afloat. It was so huge that Vanoss had actually tired out before he could stab the masked man.
"Hahahaha! You can't catch me, bitc- NOOOOO!" Delirious screamed mid-sentence as Vanoss had fired a rocket on the flight deck.
"Evan! Not even thirty seconds on deck and you're already destroying Atlesian tech!" Weiss scolded.
"And Equestrian, and possibly Earth tech because the dimensional gateway was based off of Die Glock." Twilight corrected.
"That'll teach him to steal my loot-crate." Vanoss threatened.
"Should we be afraid?" Jaune asked, backing away in terror.
"Nah. In the 29 hours I've been with them, they're not much." Haunting shrugged.
"It's been one day since the Myriad battle? It's felt like three!" Rainbow asked.
"I hear ya, Dash." Mako shrugged.
Alex continued the short walk to the stairwell leading below deck. He needed to check the systems on this thing.
"All right, I'm going to need Master Chiefs Fong, Rose, Dash, Anderson, Cerise, and Arc with me. Soldiers, stay here until the rest of the crew comes along." Alex ordered.
"Yes, sir!" Most of his Company announced.
----
"Welcome, Admiral." A very familiar voice greeted once the group entered the center-most part of the ship.
"Iris?! I thought you went down with the armor!" Alex gasped.
"You'll have to thank Lieutenant Colonel Belladonna and Master Chief Anderson for that." Iris replied.
"You're not going to go all 'HAL-9000' on me for getting torn apart by a psychotic inquisitor griffin, are you?" Alex asked.
"She gon' stick a big ol' monolith up yo-" Vanoss joked until Mako elbowed him in the arm.
"Ow." He winced.
"Thanks for preserving the teen rating on this story, Mak." Rainbow smiled.
"Pleasure." She replied.
"I severely doubt it will come to that, Admiral. But regardless, I will schedule some training with Lieutenant Colonel Xiao Long so this does not happen again." Iris said.
"Oh, Alex. I've been meaning to ask..." Ruby began.
"Sure." Alex smiled, turning to the red-cloaked huntress-in-training.
"Can I help Yang train you?" She asked him.
"I don't see any reason why not. If anyone else wants to, I'll take help wherever I can get it." Alex replied.
"And so the trend continues..." Kat sighed, nostalgia heavy in her tone.
"Have I asked for other people's help that often?" Alex asked.
"Well, not explicitly ask, but rather wait until someone else asks if they can help you." she answered.
"Truer words have never been spoken." Vanoss nodded.
"I'm with you." Rainbow Dash added.
"Ditto." Ruby said.
"God dammit." Alex pinched the bridge of his nose, trying with most of his might to keep his internal screaming from becoming external.
Alex looked around the dimly lit room while the others continued talking, large computer monitors were laid out in paths, and the only other light source in the room besides Iris's computer, still working on diagnostics. Why were they arranged like that?
"Diagnostics complete. The ship is capable of transporting anything in a 40 kilometer radius to other dimensions as far as 100,000 yottaparsecs away from ours. The ship can carry as many as 500 Bullhead VTOLs, 64 M1 Abrams-sized tanks, and 500,000 soldiers excluding crew. The ship requires at least 300 operators to be even remotely managable, and is outfitted with several intercontinental missile launchers, Anti-Aircraft weapons, dozens of heavy machine guns, and one rail gun, capable of firing projectiles one yard in diameter up to 20 miles away with pinpoint accuracy. The ship is also outfitted with training quarters to anyone who may need it, it's own forge is also enclosed inside, and can travel up to 65 knots an hour thanks to two dark-matter reactors on the ship." Iris explained.
"Thanks. Iris, what's with the computers?" Alex asked.
"The ships systems are meant to holographically project important information in the correct settings. The light over to your right is actually a condensed laser awaiting reaction from the other computers." Iris said.
"Let's get to work on that." Rainbow suggested.
Several green lights appeared on the floor, indicating where the computers should be placed. Alex and his other friends got behind a few of the monitors and started pushing as hard as they could. Once Rainbow and Vanoss got one of the monitors onto the green light, it made a high beep noise before the light moved towards the monitor, once the light met the monitor, rays of cerulean light refracted around the room.
"Ooh, yeah! It likes that!" Evan smiled, moving onto another.
Mako and Ruby had placed another one, and one of the beams that shot out from the first monitor met the second, creating more retractions and causing the lasers in between to make a sort of hexagonal shape.
"It's working!" Ruby beamed before helping Jaune move another monitor.
"One...Two...Three!" Kat grunted, as Alex and her were moving another monitor into it's spot. The beams started to look a bit more complete, forming a shape comparable to a spider's web.
"Let's keep this up!" Jaune panted, trying to help Ruby move the monitor.
"Almost there..." Rainbow struggled, also helping someone move a computer in place.
"And...." Kat gasped for breath, as these monitors were heavy.
They placed their monitors in at the same instant, completing the blue hexagonal shape that was currently glowing brightly.
"Good work, everyone! I'll notify the crew!" Iris congratulated.
"Right... The crew.." Alex panted.
"One more thing, Alex." Kat said, walking up to him with a USB drive with the markings '16 TB' etched on the front.
"This flash drive contains information about the Inquisitors, some of it talks about the Inquisitors' main headquarters. It's a large island city known as Kalos Prime. We don't know which universe, but several of the higher-up inquisitors might." Kat explained.
"Great." Alex smiled, placing the flash drive in his pocket.
"Well, I see things have happened down here. Hey, Alex." Vinyl greeted.
Alex turned to greet the white and blue unicorn mare.
"Hey, V. We just set up the main logistics room." Alex smiled back.
"Listen, We have the materials for your armor and weapon in the forge right now. Iris, Ruby and I are helping you with the designs." Vinyl stated.
"Wait, Ruby's helping?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, who else do you think built the scythe she's always carrying around?" She asked him.
"Good point. That doesn't look mass-produced to me." Alex shrugged.
"Also, Twilight wanted me to bring you something." Vinyl said, handing him a small, pentagonal, purple hued gem.
"What is it?" Alex inquired.
"It's a very rare Dust crystal. A 'Oracon Amethyst', if I'm right." Vinyl explained as Alex examined the crystal.
Alex hadn't had a lot of experience with dust in it's crystal form. Mainly, it was ammunition for Electric Fury, and that was pretty much it. Granted, he went through the 'Dust for Dummies' pamphlet that Weiss gave him on arrival in about 45 seconds before getting a rough concept of what this stuff actually did. He also remembered reading about rare dust crystals, but could never exactly memorize specific crystals by name.
As stated, the Oracon Amethyst Dust crystal was purple hued, a natural match with his own Aura, and carved intricately into a pentagonal shape, and was rather sturdy and unlikely to break.
"What exactly is this supposed to do?" Alex asked.
"I asked Weiss, she said something about 'Enhancing semblance-related abilities by 20-something percent' or something, I don't know." The unicorn shrugged.
"Thanks Vinyl, I have some things I need to take care of, if you don't mind."
"Nah man, go do your thing and we'll make the armor later." She patted his back and trotted off.
Slipping the small crystal into his right pocket, he nodded in thanks and headed over to a computer to review the data on the flash drive Kat had given him.
'Kalos Prime', eh?" Alex smirked, cracking his knuckles and plugging in the device.
----
Alex had arranged a meeting with the entirety of the team to discuss the plans for their next mission.
The seats were filled, and Alex stepped up next to the holographic charts displayed nearby.
"Hey, everyone. So, I guess you all know why I called you here?" Alex began.
"We already f**king know why you called us! it was on the stupid little card you had the crew deliver!" Wildcat shouted.
"Ahem... Anyways, I better start with the big question here; what's our next move?" Alex said, gesturing to the charts, where several highlighted bits of information scattered behind him.
"According to the files Master Chief Anderson and Lieutenant General Belladonna were able to retrieve from the Red Star Aero-Carrier The Knights Myriad, The Inquisition's head capital is a huge island-city known as 'Kalos Prime'. Where it is, we don't know." Alex shrugged.
"How do you plan on finding out?" Mako asked, hand raised.
"It's rather simple, really. The Inquisitors Omicron and Sigma have orders to send a battalion of White Fang soldiers into Vytal. Those of you who have no freakin' clue of what the hell I'm talking about, Vytal is an island located just north of Vale. I believe members of Team RWBY have met both of these inquisitors. Thanks to the records that Raven managed to send after arrival, we know who they are."
"Who?" Someone asked.
"Sigma has been identified as 'Cinder Fall', a professional criminal who managed to sneak into the Cross-Continental Transmit Tower and hack into it's systems. Due mostly to recent events, she has been revealed to be connected to the White Fang." Alex explained, an image of the Inquisitor appearing on screen.
"Wait, then who the f**k is Omicron?" Haunting asked wryly.
"Omicron, AKA Adam Taurus, is a Faunus rather high up in the White Fang's ranks. His best known attack was the theft of an entire train shipment of Dust, with just himself and his Ex-apprentice. Both Inquisitors are dangerous on a ridiculous scale, and should be proceeded with caution if we're really going to interrogate them." Alex answered.
"How the f**k are we taking two of them down if you haven't even come close to killing one?" Lui scoffed.
"You're forgetting something. Just yesterday, Epsilon, AKA Iron Talon, the leader of the Rogue Guard, was killed by Ms. Rose, and I would've gotten away with killing Cinder if Raven didn't stop me." Alex explained.
"So, what's the plan here?" Ember asked.
"We hire someone to infiltrate the White Fang. Like most of their forces, they'll probably go with Omicron's lot into Vytal. From there, the undercover op should be able to get a decent amount of information before we move in. If we encounter either Omicron or Sigma, I'll need a full huntsman team to attack either. We knock the Inquisitor out, and bring them back into the Iliad for questioning." Alex elaborated.
"And once we're done?" Yang asked.
"Make the f**ker walk the plank, or just have Nora break the Inquisitor's legs and have him or her crawl down the plank."
Nora grinned ear-to-ear.
Most of the pony audience looked ready to vomit, except Haunting.
"OORAH! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" He laughed heartily.
Vanoss and company made a few jokes about that quote.
"When your legs don't work like they used to before..."
"But before you learn to walk, you must learn to crawl!"
"Crawling in my skin! These wounds they will not heal!" Kat sang, trying and failing to contain giggling.
"Are you a child?" Weiss asked condescendingly.
"Don't patronize me." Kat threatened. Alex himself was surprised to see Kat's mood change that quick.
"Infant." The Ice Queen huffed.
"Tsundere.." Kat glared back.
"This is ridiculous. F**k this, I'm out!" Alex groaned, choosing to head to the forge, grabbing Vinyl and Ruby by the mane and hood respectively.
"Ow!" Vinyl winced.
"Friendship!" Ruby yelled happily, raising both arms while her feet dragged along the floor.
----
The hills between Manehattan and Fillydelphia were mostly silent, save the occasional Pegasus that drifted calmly across the cold, autumn night. Leaves also billowed through the late night breeze and filled the air with the scents of the season. Mostly quiet except for the birds that continued to chirp through the night...
And, of course, the swirling blue vortex that suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
The portal was roughly six feet in height and spiraled around as though it were a cosmic wheel.
Out from this portal stepped a taller man, barely visible due to the silhouette effect made when he stepped in front of it. Two M1911 pistols in hand, the figure didn't so much as glance when this gateway closed.
The moon now illuminating the man's features, one would be able to see the man wore a black ski-mask, some night-vision goggles, a respirator, as well as a World War II-era M1 helmet. The man's breathing was raspy and mechanical, almost inhuman in nature.
'Have you arrived at the Target Location yet, Russell?' a voice from his communicator asked.
"Affirmative, E.R.C Iliad is in sight, Sirius" Russel said, his voice calm, but still gruff.
'Admiral Walker should be just inside. Knowing him, he'll understand why you're here in a heartbeat.' Sirius noted.
"This isn't your world, Sirius. If you're right about this, we can't afford to have him know why we're here." Russell asserted.
'Of course. Have you determined the date yet?'
"Roger that, it's October 30, 2016 here." Russell replied evenly.
'Perfect timing, Russell. Perfect timing. Proceed to Phase Two of Directive 2-378.' Sirius ordered.
"Gladly, sir."

So, yeah. Act Three. Yay!
I should note that, considering this is an alternate timeline, I won't add a whole lot from RWBY Volume 3 unless it's completely necessary.
Before I forget: Whoever's the owner of the white sedan, you left your lights on.
