Chapter 45: Act II, Chapter 18: The Knights Myriad Part I of III

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Alex and the rest of the coalition had entered the train headed for Dodge Junction about 30 minutes ago.

They had stopped for fuel in Ponyville, so they would be a bit late arriving, but he took this opportunity to look at the old house one last time.

He had fifteen minutes before he would have to go back now, he had just entered the front door.

Looking around, he found it almost exactly as he left it going out to the Dragon's cave about a month ago, minus the dust.

Walking up the stairs to his room, Alex pondered over what significance this would have, seeing his temporary asylum again one last time.

He entered the closet, seeing his old clothes hung up after putting on his uniform, ready in case he came back.

Inhaling the dust particles, he coughed silently. Why was he here again?

Remembering a minor detail, he dug further into the closet. There! An old present box!

He still remembered when he got it all those weeks ago...

----

'Are you really sure you want me to have this, princess? It seems a bit unnecessary.' Alex had said about a day after she initially came to visit.

'It's not necessarily because I pity you, but more of a 'Plan Z' , if it were. Something to have in case something were to happen,' Celestia replied, 'Remember one crucial fact about this, Alex.'

'Sure.'

'Only use this gift when you are dealing with something that cannot be overcome using conventional means.' Celestia directed, tapping one hoof on the box.

'It's a deal.' Alex promised.

----

Opening the gift, he used his fingernail to rip the tape enclosed in the box, and folding it open, he noticed a small, round object wrapped in thick, velvety cloth. He unfolded the cloth, and pulled out what looked like a crystalline TV remote, with only one button.

Not sure what to think of it, he re-wrapped the cloth and stuck in in one of his pockets. He would save it when he finally met this 'Alpha' inquisitor.

----

Alex was sitting inside of the train with Vanoss, Rainbow, and Skirmish. The Ex-Gamer and the iridescent Pegasus were talking about some of the things they had to deal with in the past.

"...I mean, I like Pinkie and all. It's just that sometimes, her personality is a bit much sometimes." Rainbow shrugged.

"Yeah, there was this one time when Delirious and I were playing GTA, and..." Alex figured he should end the conversation there, for fear of having this story bumped up to an 'M' rating.

Skirmish cringed, but was otherwise silent.

"So, Commander." Skirmish finally said.

"Yes?" He asked.

"I have to ask, what was your exact situation with Ms. Xiao Long?" She asked.

Alex sighed, it was complicated as it was.

"Awkward. Just very, very, cringe-worthily awkward." He responded, hoping she wouldn't ask for more.

"How so?" She asked.

F**k.

"How do I put this? I constantly have my life on the line, never have I gone two whole weeks without getting shot once or twice. I was tortured for a whole frickin' month and still, to this day, have never gone to sleep without having a nightmare. But having that on top of a full-blown relationship is a bit too much for me. You can imagine my reaction when Kat and Yang start asking me about this kind of thing.." Alex said.

"I understand." She nodded.

"And it's even worse because she's a Huntress-In-Training. I hardly consider myself on the same level. This-" Alex continued, pounding the armor on his chest, "- can only get me so far if any of them were to switch sides."

"You're not a huntsman?" She asked.

"Not at heart. An Aura doesn't automatically equal Huntsman material, nor do my weapons and armor." He said.

"Then what are you?" Skirmish asked.

"Huh?" He perked his head up.

"If you don't see yourself as a huntsman, then what do you see yourself as?" Skirmish clarified.

Alex thought for a moment before facing Skirmish.

"Somewhere between a soldier and a huntsman. A 'super-soldier', if you will." Alex replied evenly.

A conductor ran horrified to where the team conversed.

"What's the situation?" Ember asked.

The conductor hesitated.

"The Macintosh hills collapsed! A giant ship launched from the ground and destroyed Dodge Junction!" He yelled.

"What?" Twilight gasped.

"There's nothing left! I just looked outside and this giant ship just flew op from the dust!" He replied.

"What's the plan?" Alex turned to Mako.

Mako thought for a solid minute before announcing the plan.

"Full speed ahead!" She yelled.

"Are you insane?!" Wildcat said.

"The Knights Myriad is here?!" Kat gasped.

"How the hell do you know about this?!" Alex wondered.

"What's going on?" Skirmish asked.

"I'd like to know, too!" Flitter said.

Kat sighed.

"The Myriad is a massive super-carrier! It takes 8000 crew members to operate and stores at least a hundred jets!" She said.

"If that thing gets near Canterlot, we're done for!" Rainbow Dash gasped.

"Never mind Canterlot, imagine what happened to the guards stationed here!" Kat's sergeant, a stark white earth pony with a light grey mane named Winter Frost realized.

"They wiped out the guard?!" Blast asked, astonished.

"And the Junction!" Applejack said.

Haunting coughed loudly from the back of the train car, everyone turned to him.

"Listen here, if the Humans are as good as the Princess says they are, they should have no trouble at all taking down a measly little ship like that!" He scoffed.

"He trying to intimidate me, he trying to intimidate ME? HUH? YOU THINK YOU'RE BIG MAN?!" Vanoss challenged.

"Hell yeah, that's a challenge! Let's take the thing down!" Haunting yelled.

The whole room was suddenly in an uproar.

Did Haunt just rally the entire crew to battle in 30 seconds?!

As the entirety of the team charged outside, Alex turned to Haunting.

"Did you just boost their confidence in 30 seconds?" Alex asked him.

"Meh, I dealt with their type before." He shrugged.

"Good work, soldier. ONWARD AND UPWARD!" He ordered, activating the now-repaired jets and soared high into battle.

The Myriad was truly massive, to compare, the U.S.S Zancudo that Alex raided for the EMP would make up 1/8 of the carrier in total, yes, eighth. It was about 2700 feet in length, 2010 feet in width, and roughly 18 stories tall and built like an oversized, flying Landkreuzer tank, complete with eight 300 foot thrusters keeping it in the air, and filled to the brim with missile launchers, Machine guns, and five cannons with enough firepower to destroy a city.

Needless to say, this was going to take some work.

----

Kat slid to the ground, narrowly avoiding a barrage of missiles.

The Myriad was more challenging than she remembered Locust describing it would be. She went to the radio, searching for Alex's channel.

'-.-Copy, over! I repeat, this is Atlas One-Two-Six calling for support! Requesting authorization from Commanders Walker and Anderson, over!' one channel crackled.

Support?

"Atlas One-Two-Six, this is Commander Anderson reporting from Dodge Junction, respond!" She ordered.

She heard rustling and struggling until she heard a familiar voice.

'Kat? Kat, is that you?!' A girl asked.

"Affirmative! We're surrounded by Red Star and are dealing with the Knights Myriad!" she yelled.

'Do you have Alex? Is he okay?!'

"He's inside the Myriad, he's still alive!"

'Thank goodness. I'll tell the coalition to engage!'

----

Alex burst through the hull, landing inside the ship's many hallways, searching for anything vulnerable.

What the?!

The floor collapsed from under him and Alex found himself in a large storage room of Jets and White Fang Bullheads.

In the middle of the room was his worst enemy before Sigma came along. The most terrifying person he met from that time period other than the deceased Winchester.

In the middle of the room, was Jäger.

"You should've stayed with the convoy. Surrendered while you still had the chance." He scoffed.

Alex staggered up.

"Alpha wants you to die, but on his own, overly chivalric terms. Human sacrifice or something stupid. I just want to see you dead. No bullshit." Jäger scowled.

"Whatever these A-Holes are paying you, I can double it." Alex coughed, unsheating Electric Fury.

"This isn't business, kid. This is personal." He replied, ripping a thin, rusty, lead pipe off the wall and spinning it.

Alex surged towards his old enemy, their weapons locking in place as they stared hatefully into each other's eyes.

"Dead or alive, You're coming with me." He threatened.

"That's big talk for a small-time crook." Alex shrugged.

"Fine, Dead it is!" He yelled.

Author's Notes:

I'm going to be posting chapters all throughout the weekend, after that! I'm disregarding the schedule entirely.

Hope you enjoy three days of pre-written chapters!

Oh, by the way, here's to another 50,000 words. Don't know how I wrote that much in less time and chapters than the last 50,000. But eh, progress.
