Blood Red Shadows
Chapter 35: Act II, Chapter 8: Confrontations
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAlex sat in his apartment..
The rest of Team Unity returned to the city a couple days ago. After an hour long chewing out about how none of them should even be in public, for fear of their enemies closing in and finishing what they started. They found out that they had no idea in mind as to what to do about the Syndicate, he figured they should sit tight until something happened. After all, none of them had any clue as to where they were.
Alex wondered again why Sigma would team up with him, especially after killing his friend and threatening to kill the others. She had said that Winchester wasn't the one who hired her, so who was?
It was a question that plagued him day and night since Karis's death.
That wasn't the point. She agreed to it, she had to die.
Horribly.
Alex was immediately met by a buzz at his apartment door. Who could that be?
Walking over to his door, he pressed a small button and spoke.
"Who's this?" Alex asked.
"It's Twilight and the others, can we come in?" Twilight asked.
"No problem."
Alex pressed another button to let his newest allies inside.
A minute or two later, Alex was met by the six ponies.
"Hi." Alex greeted, he invited them to sit down and have something to drink.
"Hello Alex. I bet you know why we're here." Twilight grimly, but calmly stated.
"Not really." Alex calmly replied.
"We want to know why you've been killing all of these people!" Rainbow Dash blurted out.
Ah, he should've expected this. Ponies were typically against violence and bloodshed. Similar in nature to how normal people would react.
Regardless, there was a reason behind it. All of it.
"Do you think I really had any other choice?" Alex coldly retorted.
"What do ya mean?" Applejack questioned.
"If I had just accepted my fate and got taken away by those men, I would be dead. If I didn't use Die Glocke to escape, after killing my way to getting there, I would be dead. And if I hadn't followed Kat and the others out of that damned prison, WE WOULDN'T EVEN BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE I'D BE SIX FEET UNDER!" He yelled.
"That's no excuse for what you did after that. Sure you killed to save yourself in the beginning-" Rarity tried to finish.
"MY MOTIVES HAVE STAYED THE SAME THROUGHOUT! I'M A WANTED FUGITIVE, WHAT THE HELL DID YOU EXPECT?!" Alex reasoned.
"AND WHY IS THAT? DO YOU EXPECT US TO BELIEVE YOU AFTER EVERYTHING YOU DID! ALL THOSE MEN YOU KILLED? THE INNOCENT DON'T RUN!" Rainbow yelled.
"Um... Please stop arguing..." Fluttershy shrank back from the hostility.
"LET'S YELL RANDOM THINGS! FORGET INSIDE VOICES!" Pinkie yelled.
"IF THE INNOCENT NEVER RUN, THEN WHY WAS I ABDUCTED FROM MY HOME, MY PARENTS MURDERED, AND MY HOUSE BURNED TO ASHES?!"
"AND DOES THAT JUSTIFY THE HUNDREDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE YOU KILLED?!"
"THOSE MEN WERE NEVER INNOCENT! THEY TRIED TO KILL ME, OR SEND ME OVER TO SOME SADISTIC ASSHOLE THAT WOULD TORTURE ME UNTIL I PISSED BLOOD! AND YOU SUPPORTED HIM!" Alex angrily yelled back.
"HE'S DEAD NOW SO WHY WORRY?! THE BODY COUNT IS NEVER ENOUGH FOR YOU, IS IT?!"
"IT'S BECAUSE OF THAT INQUISITOR YOU HIRED! THAT SAME INQUISITOR THAT MURDERED ONE OF MY FRIENDS IN COLD BLOOD!"
Twilight stepped back in shock.
"Did you think I didn't know? Did you think I was that dim-witted? Sigma told me that Winchester didn't hire her, so I got to thinking, who did?" Alex scoffed.
Twilight froze, and her other friends looked guilty.
"And when you and your 'Elements of Harmony' drop this topic on me. That's when I realized. It was you. It was you all along. You didn't trust me from the beginning. And it was only after you and your friends called the hit that you finally figured out that what you were doing was wrong all along." Alex continued, that angry stare not even moving an inch from Twilight's eyes.
"Do you realize now just what you did? That if we all die, if we all fail in defeating the Inquisitors, that the blame will fall directly on your shoulders, the blood in your hands? And was I even the first? You had to have at least known what the Inquisitors do for a living. Did you call hits on other innocent men like me who lost their way? Or the dozens and dozens of protesters and naysayers?" Alex cruelly finished.
Twilight honestly didn't know what to say, how to respond. He was right. This was their fault.
"Did you even consider the consequences of your actions? That if I survived, that more, stronger warriors would come my way until, finally, death takes me? Or did you think that if Cinder failed, everything would just be all sunshine and rainbows and I'd live happily ever after? NO! I WON'T! IF I HAD EVEN THE SLIGHTEST CHANCE OF HAVING A NORMAL LIFE, IT'S GONE DOWN THE SHITTER NOW!!" Alex finished.
Twilight sat down, shocked. What had she done?
"Is that really what you want? A chance for a normal life?" Rainbow asked.
"You know me well enough that this is what I've been fighting for all along. Before all of this, I was just your average, run-of-the-mill kid until I was blamed for that attack. And it's only escalated from there." Alex said.
"Then, why bother with all of this? You know that you're never going to go back now." Twilight asked.
"Yeah. I've never really understood that." Applejack agreed.
"I already tried that, in Ponyville. You all know how well that turned out for me." Alex elaborated.
"What about Remnant?" Rarity asked.
"We all know I passed the point of no return with that. Remnant is anything but." Alex bluntly replied.
Alex stood up, walked to the window, and stared
Thoughtfully at the view.
"Sometimes, I wonder what could have changed, how everything would be if I had just accepted my fate and died. All the lives that would be saved, all the damage that would never be." Alex sighed.
Alex turned back to the mares, a sorrowful expression on his face.
"I don't expect forgiveness for what I did, or pity from anyone that knows me well enough to know what happened to me all those months ago. But what I do expect is anger, fear, loss, and pain. In here and everywhere that I go. No matter what I do or where I go. I always wonder if I'll even be here tomorrow. But all I'm asking is for acceptance. From the small group of people that I am willing to call 'allies'. Perhaps even 'friends'." Alex finished.
Him and the six mares sat in silence. Thinking about what Alex had said to all of them. Even Alex never expected his words to make that big of an impact on them. On all of them.
"If it's any consolation, darling," Rarity began, Alex looked at her with an unidentifiable expression,"I will help you get through this. I understand some of the blame may fall upon us, but then again, nobody is innocent. And I accept it. I will help you."
"So will I." Rainbow raised a hoof in agreement.
"Same here." Applejack assured.
"I don't agree with what we're doing here, but count me in... If that's okay." Fluttershy weakly rose a hoof.
"WOOHOO!" Pinkie yelled, waving a flag with the word 'Alex' draped in gold.
"Alex." Twilight began.
Alex looked at Twilight expectingly.
"If it's all the same to you. I'll do what I can." She said.
"Thank you. All of you. I'm not sure what we're going to do now, but all we can do is stick together and hope for the best." Alex nodded respectfully.
The apartment buzzer sounded again, and Alex ran to the door.
"Who is it?" Alex asked.
"Alex, It's Kat. I need your help. Bring the Elements with you." Kat said. Alex was nervous, she sounded like the Grim Reaper itself had followed her here, she was that afraid.
"On our way." Alex nodded.
He turned to the ponies.
"Kat needs our help, if you want to prove to me if you meant what you said, you'll come with me." Alex stated.
"Of course." Twilight replied.
"All right. Let's go."
Kat led them to an alleyway, Vanoss and company, Team RWBY, and Zera were among them in the alleyway.
"Look at this." Kat gestured to a bloodied corpse.
"Jesus!" Alex turned away at the sight, and the mares gagged.
Vanoss knelt down, emotionlessly, and checked the dead body.
"Well?" Alex asked.
"This person hasn't been dead for too long." Vanoss stated.
"Look, there's an note!" Ruby notices.
Alex knelt down and plucked a bloodied piece of paper off the corpse. Needless to say, what was written on that note disturbed him so much that he felt sick just reciting it.
Greetings, Team Unity.
This sacrifice is addressed to you as a warning.
I am a mercenary hired by the Inquisition. I know how your group operates, how you manage to defeat us, and how to defeat you.
If Commander Walker does not turn himself into the Inquisition, Team Unity will die, one by one, starting at about 1300 tomorrow. And every day until either he turns himself in or you all die.
Oh, and I have a special surprise for those who respawn.
Until we meet again.
Zodiac.

Boom! Plot Twist!
DUN DUN DUUUUUN!I figured this fic was becoming more RWBY-related than anything else, and then I figured, 'Well this is a website for MLP fan fiction, so I'd better make it more MLP-related or else.
'Or else what?' You may ask?
Exactly.
One more thing, I've been wondering a lot about this, What do you guys think of this story, it's nice to hear feedback once in a while, especially if it would make a more interesting fic for you people to read, and I can't exactly do that if people never tell me how I can improve, because, truth be told, I know it needs improvement, but I can never be sure what I need to fix and what I need to keep.
And I'm boring you guys. Again.
You know what? Just ignore these.
