“No way,” Chloe said to her classmates.

It’s been close to 3 months since she stop fighting the villains Hawkmoth had been creating and just been focusing on her own life. She’s been helping her dad around the bakery learning to bake like him and stop caring how she looks, not caring what kind of clothes she wears as long as they’re comfortable. Everything that wouldn’t be like how she use to be, as she doesn’t have a reason to be like that after meeting with her mom.

“Chloe we need you to be out there fighting villains again,” Marinette said.

“And be maimed every time I do so, most of you have been turn into villains and have almost killed me. Especially you Princess Justice,” Chloe said glaring at Marinette who shrinks. “In fact the only ones, I haven’t had to fight are Sabrina and Adrien. I been the meat shield keeping anyone else and the damages to the city low. And what, do I really have to show for all of my hard work? Basically nothing that’s worth it in the long run. Besides none of you are worth me fighting for.”

“What?” Adrien asked.

“I only saved you people because of the side effect of me fighting the villain. I don’t care about any of you, I left you all to fend for yourselves since I stop fighting the villains. Every single villain, I took on wasn’t to save any of you. I was only doing it to help the heroes but now, I’m just tired of being a hero. There is nothing in it for me, seeing how even with all the work I put into it, everyone still treats me the same,” Chloe said.

“Well you are still the same,” Kim said.

“And the one who was the only thing keep you all safe. Now that I’m not you all suddenly realized that fact and came crawling to me to go back doing what I did before so none of you would get hurt. Well forget it, welcome to my life of being hurt by the villains and getting nothing of value out of it,” Chloe huffed.

“Chloe it’s not for nothing, you’re a hero of Paris,” Marinette said.

“And that doesn’t pay the bills,” Chloe pointed out. “Everything I have been doing was for free, and I have nothing to show for it. I’m a hero but have nothing, and I mean nothing to show for it. I’m focusing all of my energy in helping dad for all the things he has done for me. He’s the only one in Paris I care about.” (1)

“What about all the good you have done?” Luka asked.

“Worthless as I need something tangible not worthless ‘thank you’ for saving the day. Talk to me when there’s something like how the heroes in America are paid for their services,” Chloe said.

“You want to be paid?” Marinette asked.

“I seen the pay and benefits that the heroes of United HeroeZ get. If I’m going to be risking my life with every villain attack, I should at least get paid for it,” Chloe said. (2)

“You want to be paid to be a hero?” Sabrina asked.

“The same as your dad who is a cop who gets paid to do his job and risk his life. Why should I be getting half killed fighting villains for nothing? Want me to be the meat shield again, I need to be compensated for all of my effort. Besides you all need me more then I need you,” Chloe said.

“We don’t need you,” Ayla said.

“Then why are all of you asking me to be fighting the villains again?” Chloe asked causing everyone to look away. "That's what I thought. Not so fun without me taking the pain is it?"

Author's Note

1 - Doing something because you enjoy it is one thing, but when you do something and gets nothing in return and it’s costly to you personally. Why continue to do it when it’s just not worth it.

2 - I hate it when people say that the heroes should be selfless and do everything for free that cost them nothing. Not caring that the heroes would need money to be able to survive and have a place to call home. Rather they want the heroes to be homeless and have no money at all so that they be the selfless heroes who cost them nothing.

If that was tried in real life with government services, there be no fire department, police or medical care.
