Twilight had traveled for days in the forest trying to find a cabin in the woods of Everfree forest. Her body is now older and worn compared to years ago when she was last here but she press herself to move forward. Things have become harder since the magic of their world disappeared with nothing they tried being able to bring it back.
Finally she came to the cabin in the woods and standing in the doorway is Luna. Who is now old as the immortally of being an alicorn is no longer powered by magic.
“Twilight what are you doing here?” Luna ask surprised in seeing her.
“Came to find you. I need to know what happen to Celestia,” Twilight said.
“She’s here,” Luna said as she leads Twilight away from her cabin and in a clearing is a gravestone with Celestia cutie mark on it.
“Shes dead?” Twilight asked.
“After Sunset died, she just lost the Will to live. I did what I could but she was just far too gone,” Luna said.
“But the last time, I saw her she was fine,” Twilight said.
“Just her game face. After she left and came to live with me, her game face broke. She had a complete mental meltdown, the guilt of what she did and how she failed to care when she had the chance to make things right with Sunset. And how because of her failure to be a mother to Sunset that our world lost its magic. The stress of all that killed her. She held it all back for so long that once Sunset died, the wall she built up around herself just broke and it all hit her at once. And it was bad,” Luna said. (1)
“How bad?” Twilight asked.
“Some days she acted like she and Sunset had a loving mother and daughter relationship. Acting like she was still alive and was just ruling in Canterlot, instead of facing reality. The days where she wasn’t living in her fantasy world… she would sob about how she wasted years that she could had been using to bond with Sunset and be the mother that she needed, instead of her only trying to make it up to her only after the depowering event force her to do it,” Luna said.
“I watch her try to bond with Sunset. She told Celestia that she has to make her into an alicorn and let her to kill me for her to even think about forgiving her. And she didn’t up to her death, no matter what Celestia did for her. Celestia moved her to her old room and gave her the royal treatment but Sunset was just too bitter and full of hate,” Twilight said.
“What do you expect? She was locked away in the dungeon for years and suddenly Celestia wanted to bond with her after so many years of her not even saying a word to her. And how she treated you as a daughter when you already have a family, while Sunset who had none was just tossed aside,” Luna said.
“I know,” Twilight said feeling guilt and not even trying to help Sunset after she was place into her cell. There was nothing for her to work on and all Sunset wanted to do was kill her for taking what should had been hers.
She and Celestia had kept her in her cell while talking with her trying to make a connection. That went for years, till Sunset’s failing health finally force them to move her to her old room where she got better. But while her health improved Sunset pointed out that keeping her lock up in a jail cell for years even after they know that making a bond with her is the key in restoring magic. Sunset refused to even talk to them after that and it lasted for years, till Sunset finally died of old age. (2)
“So what’s the real reason why you’re here?” Luna asked.
“Sunset somehow arranged a book she wrote of her life to be published and… everypony is angry with how me and Celestia treated the one pony we needed to restore magic. Saying that if we had treated her better at the start when we learned she’s important that magic could had been restored. Instead we kept her lock up making her reset us so much that even when we gave her a improved living conditions that she would never help us,” Twilight said shamefully. “I was banished from Canterlot and Blueheart is on the throne.”
“So you came there to ask for help,” Luna said.
“I have no place to go,” Twilight said.
“I told both you and my sister what you two needed to do but you didn’t listen. I took in Celestia because she is my sister but for you, I have no reason to,” Luna said.
“But I have nowhere to go,” Twilight said.
“I refuse to listen as you refused to listen to me when it would had made all the difference,” Luna said.
“It’s my fault. I’m wrong, wrong, wrong about everything. If me and Celestia had listen to you p, we could had won Sunset over. I’m sorry for not listening,” Twilight ranted.
“And that’s suppose to mean anything at this point?” Luna asked coldly. “Saying sorry won’t change anything. Just that it took you losing everything to finally admit you were wrong. You are my sister's student, you're just like her.”
Luna left leaving Twilight behind as she enters and locks her cabin door behind her. Leaving the failure of a princess behind her.
