Lone Wolf Mercenary Services
Chapter 26: Reason to fight
Previous Chapter Next ChapterPyro, Clawback and I just stared at the base of the Skull Bandits, the two of them with titled heads while my expression was one of unamusement. The side of the mountain had been covered in steel plates, all shoddily hammered together, while above the entrance to the base there was a massive skull, with two barred windows where the eyeholes were. The whole thing just reminded me of all those cranky pirate cove toy sets you'd get your kids on earth, also reminding me of one of Dr Wilys fortresses in the Mega Man Games. "Well, someone is getting sued over this..."
"So, we just go destroy everything and beat the living hell out of everyone right?" Pyro asked as his horn sparked with anticipation.
Both Clawback and I stood back as I nodded. "Yep, go nuts Pyro." The both of us ran and ducked began cover as Pyro grinned like a madman and his horn was covered in flames.
"BURN!!!" He charged up his horn, creating a large ball of fire before sending a huge wave of flames towards the Skull Bandit base. Many of the bandits outside were burned severely, rendered unconscious due to overstimulation, the bastards are lucky they don't have to feel the burns of Pyro's flames. Most of the wooden structures outside were immediately reduced to ash, some of the supports on the entrance and main building were damaged as well. Pyro laughed like a maniac as he charged in with flames burning all around him. As soon as he stepped inside the building, we heard screams, inane laughter and saw flashes of orange from cracks in the damaged structure. "BURN!!! BUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRNNNNNN AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
"How many ponies do you think he's going to kill in there?" Clawback asked as he readied his talons, which now had armoured gloves in them with blades along the claws.
"Maybe a few, but he has enough self control to not kill anyone in that state."
"He's laughing like a manic and destroying a building from the inside out while smiling like a psychopath, burning everything in his way..."
"I said enough control not total control."
As we rushed past the wall of flames in our way, three bandits jumped on my back and attempted to stab my with their makeshift knives. I grabbed two of them and smashed their heads together while Clawback grabbed the other with his talons and slammed him into the wall. As we went around beating the shot out of everything that moved, and everything that didn't move, we started coming across some photos of certain ponies, places and foreign dignitaries. I picked up a couple of the photos and files she placed them in my coat to bring to Celestia later, these guys were planning something big, good thing we were sent to trash the place.
Guess that's another plot to destroy governments that I've put a stop to unintentionally. This happens more often than you'd think. Hell, with the stuff I've done, I could be considered a hero. But...there's a few things stopping me from being considered one.
Here's the thing though, we may do stuff like stop changelings, beat up thugs and take down criminals, but don't be mistaken, we ain't good people. We've lied, cheated, killed, stole, whatever law there is we've most likely broke it on more than one occasion. We're mercenaries, not heroes. Now, we still do stuff out of the kindness of our own hearts, and we do got morals. But at the end of the day, we accept jobs, we get payed to do those jobs, and we do those jobs to the best of our abilities.
Yeah, we crack jokes, act friendly and the princess may have a soft spot for us, but even she knows what we've done. She's payed us to do some of that stuff herself. Take what happened with Candy for example, we were payed to look after her, we didn't have to act friendly. That came from getting to know her and personal interaction. We may be good friends now, but she was still just part of another job.
Yeah, we try to be good and all that, but we still do stuff that would make the devil go "Dude..."
Now, with being a mercenary, there are moments were you have to be the villian, the hero and whatever other title is out there. There are moments you'll laugh, cry, smile, frown, frolic about like a little girl in a field of flowers. And there are the moments where you will just be so furious and enraged all sense of logic and thought get smashed through that fucking window. And I was about to have one if those moments.
As we met up with the nearly exhausted Pyro who lay on his back, twitching and giggling to himself while acting as if he had the greatest orgasm of his life, Clawback and I knocked the rest of the bandits down before reaching the back room. "Alright, everything else is destroyed and everyone is unconscious, paralysed or dead, let's get them out and teleported to prison before we blow this place to hell."
"Hey...uh...Gray? You might want to see this!" Clawback called from the other side if the room in slight panic. Running over to him I looked to what he had in his hand, a screen of some sort. Taking it off of him I looked to it and a recording started to play.
"Hello Lone Wolf leader Gray Karmen." A stallion wearing a black hood and a skull over his face spoke, most likely the leader of the skull Bandits, Draken Bones. "You've been a thorn in my side for quite some time, and it seems my new partners have similar issues with you interfering with their plans."
The recording moved and revealed a changeling Royal. A tall changeling mare stood with a smirk on her face. her dark purple hair seeming like smoke. "Yes, and now I, Princess Diptera, along with Draken here, shall now interfere with both your business, AND your personal feelings!" What was shown next caused me to nearly crush the screen in my hands.
Molly, gagged and tied to a chair surrounded by hungry looking changelings and angry bandits sat unconscious with signs that she had been heavily abused by her captors.
"If you want to see here again, try and find her, you'll get no clues or even a little hint from us. Now...happy hunting!" With that the screen went black.
I stood there frozen, my body stopped responding to my own commands. I could feel myself glaring with a fiery rage at the cracked screen, my hands shaking in absolute anger.
"Oh crap...his eyes are changing, we gotta move! Go!" Clawback yelled as he picked up Pyro and the two ran out of the building.
The screen was instantly reduced to dust as I crushed it with my gauntlet, which was now busting with a dark red aura. I growled like a savage animal as I clenched my sharp teeth.
Two things were certain. Somebody was going to be ripped to pieces, and I'd need a new coat once I was done.
Nobody, NOBODY messes with me like that and lives to see the next sunrise. "Big mistake motherfucker..."
