Razor Wind, an 18-year-old Monster Hunter under the Equestrian Hunting Guild, is usually pretty chill when it comes to her life, job, and friend. However, she's recently been questioning why she has a strange power to infuse her signature sword with an odd power that near doubles her own strength. Her thoughts are interrupted when her best friend, Pendragon Quill, tells her of the awakening of a calamity that was sealed away by ancients millions of years ago. Naturally, they go on an adventure to stop it.

However, slowly but surely, Razor Wind's power is slowly corrupting her and turning her into someone else. It doesn't help there's a madman on the loose hellbent on resurrecting the ancient evil. Can she control this power in time to stop the calamity from awakening, or will she succumb to the darkness?

[Prologue] Calamity

Just a heads up, you can right click on the green words to open a new tab to play the music in this story.

None could properly prepare for the storm that hit the Crystal Empire three years after the defeat of the golden death. It came out of nowhere, rain and thunder falling from the pitch black clouds in the sky, the very same that made the brightest day, dark as night. At first, the storm wasn't nearly as bad as it had evolved into. It was merely a rainstorm to a certain three individuals...

In a room on the upper floor of a crystal house lay a softly crying Pegasus filly in her bed. She had a green coat and a long white mane and tail, and her eyes shone an emerald hue. Hearing her door creak open, she quickly turned over to see a light blue Pegasus stallion with a medium, brown mane and bright blue eyes. A bit of scruff had begun to form on his chin. This was none other than Rage Quit, the brains of Team Brachydios and the father of the crying filly. He smiled kindly at the sight of his daughter.

"Hey there, you little cutie..." he chuckled "Is the storm scaring you? Nah, there's nothing to worry about..." he approached the young filly and proceeded to give her a warm hug "The rain is just water. Y'know, the stuff you drink! It can't hurt us..."

"Unless a Kushala Daora appears" a Unicorn mare with a grey coat, orange mane and red eyes came into the room with a smirk on her face.

"Unity, don't scare the poor thing" Rage Quit laughed "Besides... a Kushala Daora? Really?"

"Razor Wind doesn't know what that is, it's all good" Unity shrugged with a smirk before laying next to her husband and child "Now, how's my little girl, hmm?"

"Mam!" Razor giggled as she booped her mother's nose.

"Not dad?" the male Pegasus asked disappointingly "You used to be such a daddy's girl. What happened to the good old days, eh, little girly?"

"Eh?" the Unicorn laughed "I thought we dropped the whole Vanhoover accent thing."

"Doesn't help I'm from Vanhoover, dear" Rage chuckled.

The couple laughed for a good while longer until a massive clap of thunder was heard from outside. Normally, any other pony would pass this off as any normal sound during a storm. But Rage Quit wasn't any other pony. He knew from experience that certain monsters made certain thundering noises. But this one was different. It sounded old...

"Something's out there..." he spoke simply "Unity, get Razor out of here and into the safe room."

"W-What?" Unity asked nervously "Rage Quit, are you sure something's out there?"

"No, but I'm not taking any chances" the light blue stallion nodded "Go. I'll take care of our little pest problem..."

"Right" she nodded before taking her daughter with her magic and placing her on her back, rushing out as fast as she could. Rage Quit ran into his own room and opened up a blue chest. Inside was a full Brute Tigrex armour set and an elite switch axe. He grinned before he put it all on and ran down the stairs and out the door, into the pouring rain and pitch black clouds.

"Haven't used this for months!" he laughed, despite the seriousness of the issue "Hope I'm not rusty! Ha ha!"

His cockiness stopped when a massive black shadow stomped down before him. Normally, the Pegasus would grin, ready his weapon, and charge right at it blindly. However, this monster was much, much different. It wasn't just a black shadow, no, Rage Quit could see it perfectly clear. It was a wyvern that had pure black scales and giant red spikes on its wings. A spike under its chin signaled it to be a Rathian, but its unsettling red eyes deemed otherwise. A blue flame sparked from its mouth as it stared the hunter down, a feat not many monsters could do nowadays.

"Well... That escalated quickly..." the light blue Pegasus stared in fear of the monster before him. It then let out a huge roar and blew him back from the force of it.

"That wasn't a thunder clap, that's for sure..." Unity spoke nervously as she continued running away with Razor Wind on her back "It'll all be over soon enough, little one. Daddy's gonna kill that monster and you'll be safe, okay?"

The young filly simply nodded as her mother continued running. It was then when they saw an explosion of blue fire go off not far from where they were. Unity stopped to look at the damage and noticed the explosion cleared a path for her to look and see the monster attacking the Crystal Empire.

It was unlike anything she had ever seen before. Scarier to her than the Gore Magala for one reason... Its eyes looked intelligent. That's when she realized it was staring right at her with its bright red eyes in hatred and insanity. Only one thought went through the Unicorn's mind at the moment.

"Run..." she whispered to herself before hightailing it out of there. She didn't care where she ran off to; she only cared that her family was safe. Wait... her family... Rage Quit!

It was too late to turn back now. The beast had taken off and was heading straight for Unity. It landed right in front of her with a thud and growled, revealing its Rathian-like body to her. However, what it did next surprised the mare.

"Give me the child..." a feminine voice came from the Rathian's mouth "Give me the child now, or suffer the consequences greatly!"

"Over my dead body!" Unity retaliated.

"That can be arranged..." the monster let out a chuckled before charging right at the mare and knocking her to her side, making Razor Wind roll on the wet crystalline floor. The young filly began to cry, and the Rathian merely chuckled.

"N-No..." the dark grey Unicorn tried to desperately reach for her daughter, but to no avail "P-Please... stop..."

"UNITY!!" Rage Quit called out, rushing out to help her, but being knocked down by the monster's blue flame. Once more, the beast laughed before going to retrieve the child. However, it stared at Unity and grinned before stomping her foot down on top of her.

"NO!!!" the stallion shouted, reaching out one of his hooves in desperation. But it was too late. The Rathian looked at Unity in disgust before going back to taking the child. But before it could, it was bombarded with shell after shell of bowgun firepower. The beast finally felt annoyed and took off.

"Captain Rage Quit, are you alright?!" a bowgun soldier in Gypceros armour helped his commanding officer up.

"Forget about me and help my family!" the light blue Pegasus shouted. Without a second though, the guard, joined by a few others, rushed to check on Unity and Razor Wind. While crying, the young filly was perfectly fine. However, Unity was slightly less fortunate.

"Sir! Come quick!" a guard shouted to Rage. The latter dashed over to his wife's scarred body and took no time in kneeling down and checking her wounds. Everywhere, her body had bruises and cuts, and she bled heavily.

"Unity..." the Pegasus cried as he held the Unicorn's body. Slowly, she came to, and despite all the pain going through her, she smiled to her husband and touched his face with one of her hooves soothingly. Tears began forming in both their eyes as the rain continued to pour down upon them. It wasn't long before the grey mare let out her final breath, not a final word spoken by her at all.

Rage Quit said nothing as he picked up her beautiful corpse with his wings and brought her over to one of the soldier's medical beds. He then went over to his crying daughter, now in the magical grasp of one of the guards, and placed her in his warm wings. Seeing her beautiful eyes brought a smile to Rage's crying face. He hugged her once again before walking away with her. She soon fell asleep to the sound of the rain, now beginning to clear away and become softer.

It had already been a week since the passing of Unity Cross. 'A mother and wife to a loving family' it said on the tombstone. Rage wished he could've put more on it, every little detail about her personality. But it was simply not to be. He stood over his wife's grave with Razor Wind standing beside him. He let out a sigh and began to smile.

"Hey, honey" he said, a tear rolling down his cheek "How're you doing? Razor Wind here is doing just fine, and I'm taking good care of her. That's what you'd want, right?"

"Da..." the young green filly hugged her father's front legs.

"Anyway, I have to be going now" he finished up "Monsters to hunt and money to be made. I'll see you around, okay?"

"Buh, bie, mam..." Razor waved her mother farewell and left with her father.

"Unity..." Rage spoke as he walked away "Somehow, someway, I'll find a way to avenge you. I'll kill that Rathian, and finally bring your soul to rest. Just you wait..."

The two ponies were at last out of sight from the graveyard. A soft breeze blew through there, calming the resting spirits. However, a wicked wind began blowing around as a woman clothed in black stepped out from the original viewpoint of the visiting ponies. Her giant hat obscured her face and a long cigar stick she was smoking was held by her magic.

"What a pity" she shook her head in disappointment "I rather liked him too. But I suppose I'll simply have to dispose of him. And the brat as well, while I'm at it..."

Suddenly, the wind blew off the mare's hat, revealing her grey coat and orange mane. Her eyes shone bright red and a wicked smile crawled on her face.

She looked exactly like Unity.

[Act 1] (Chapter 1) Headaches

Just a reminder, you can right click on the green words to open a new tab to play the music in this story.

A soft breeze blew through the darkness of the Everfree forest. The only light that shone through to the ground was the small touches of it that seeped through the trees. There were, however, still many areas where the light was prominent. For instance, an area currently filled with brightness was inhabited by a Kecha Wacha, a lemur-like monster with yellow and red fur, as well as an elephant-ques trunk and ears.

Rapidly running through the trees was another entity approaching the lemur monster. However, this was no predator monster. It was green in colour with white and brown armour all over it. Two wings sprouted out its, or rather her, body, and two emerald eyes staring right at her target. It was a Pegasus mare wearing her favourite Barioth armour set. As she slowed down to get a good look at her prey, she opened up a small box and dialed a number. Soon enough, a blue hologram of younger Unicorn mare with a curly mane greeted the green Pegasus.

"I'm guessing you found it?" the Unicorn asked.

"Yeah, I see it" the Pegasus nodded "Still not sure why the client wanted me to hunt down a low-rank Kecha Wacha. I mean, I know I'm awesome, but there are still newcomers who need the practice, right?"

"The client specifically chose you because there were also sightings of a new monster nearby" the hologram explained "He didn't want any newbie experiencing that on their first hunt, so he chose you."

"At least this pays well..." the green mare sighed "Okay, I'll call you if anything gets out of hand. See you later, Penny."

"Here when you need me, Rez" Penny nodded before deactivating the hologram and allowing her friend to prepare herself. The latter put her box away and began checking all her equipment. Potions, mega potions and antidotes were all there, not to mention her trusty Barioth sword with a white hilt and red blade, and her Barioth shield with white plating and silver fangs coming down underneath it.

"Okay, all good to-" she smiled before feeling the ground beneath her begin to feel squishy "That's... odd... This isn't the wet season of the-" she suddenly realized exactly where, or rather what, she was standing on. She flipped off just in time to see a flat green frog monster leap out of the ground. It looked just like a Gobul, long tail, flat-wide body and everything, but at the same time looked a bit different. Was this the new monster; a subspecies? It landed beside her, but paid her no mind. It instead charged right for the Kecha Wacha and ate it before it even got a chance to react, gobbling it down faster than somepony could say Amatsumagatsuchi.

"That's definitely new..." Rez looked curious at the new subspecies "But, wait, I've discovered this thing, right? That means I get to name it! Oooooh, what to call it? Hmm... Looks kinda green, has all that muddy moss growing on it..."

"Why not the Moss Gobul?" Penny popped out of her box, slightly surprising the green Pegasus before she became slightly angry.

"Oi, that was my name!" she shouted. Unfortunately, her shouting got the new monster's attention. It began staring right at the mare, still hungry for something else to snack on.

"Now you've gone and done it" Penny sighed "Sit tight and I'll try and research its attack patterns. Until then, try not to die, okay?"

"Well, haven't died yet" Rez smiled.

"Emphasis on yet..." the Unicorn muttered to herself before closing down her hologram and allowing Rez to fight the Moss Gobul. As she came into full view of it, standing right in front of it, the beast let out a ferocious roar, revealing it too, like the Gobul, could puff up and reveal spikes on its back.

"Alright, let's do this thing!" Rez shouted as she whipped out her sword and shield with her wings and rushed straight into battle. However, before she could get a hit on the Moss Gobul, it sank into the dirt and burrowed its way around the Pegasus.

"Oh, so you're one of THOSE monsters" she sighed "I wonder if you'll have the Gobul's underwater attacks while on land?"

Her question was answered when the beast popped up behind her with a sloppy wet mud noise. She turned around just in time to avoid the monster's attack of attempting to inhale her. In then sank back into the ground.

"Alright, this is getting annoying" Rez complained before taking out a silver bomb and smirking a bit "This outta do the trick. Go, sonic bomb!" she threw the bomb at the Moss Gobul and uprooted it, allowing her to attack it. She went straight for the tail and slashed the ever-living hell out of it, eventually cutting it off and forcing the creature to let out an ear-bleeding roar, clearly becoming enraged, right before digging back down into the mud.

"AHHGG! JESUS!!" the Pegasus cried out, desperately covering her ears from the splitting noise right next to her "Fine, you wanna go?! Then let's-"

"Rez, I just finished analyzing the Moss Gobul" Penny popped out of her hologram again "According to this, it dislikes living in water and-"

"Cut to the chase, Penny" Rez hastily responded "I don't know where it is, and for all I know I might be half-deaf now!"

"Oh, right, sorry" the Unicorn quickly apologized "The monster's underbelly is soft, just like the Gobul's. A few clean hits there could be fatal, but I'm still checking out its nervous system."

"It'll have to do for now. Thanks" the green mare nodded before closing the hologram and pulling out her sword again, waiting for the Gobul to appear again "Now if I was a cowardly frog monster, where would I be hiding?"

Before she could realize, the Moss Gobul jumped out of the mud and charged right for her, knocking her to the ground and making her skid through the wetness of the land. Getting up, she stared at the creature with hatred in her eyes before running around it and attacking it from the side. After hitting it a few times, she attempted to strike its belly with the little window allotted. However, the beast turned around and spat a ball of poison at her, making the Pegasus feel a bit woozy.

"OoooOOoohh..." she stumbled a bit, trying to get an antidote from her bag and drink it. Slowly, the creature crept up to its prey, hungrily awaiting to chow down on her. But in a miracle, Rez drank the antidote and hopped out of the way just before it could gobble her up.

"Not today, jackass!" the Pegasus laughed before striking it square in the face with her sword, flipping it over to try and cope with the pain. She took this time to hop on its body and stab its belly repeatedly. Blood poured out in copious amounts as each stab pierced another part of its internal system. Surprisingly, the monster actually had the strength to flip Rez off it and crawl away.

"Bro, I literally just said 'not today'. What, are you ignoring me?" the green mare felt offended right before tossing her sword upwards and striking the Moss Gobul's upper body, piercing it and doing just enough damage to finally fell it.

(Music Stop)

"And THAT is how you hunt a monster!" she laughed at the corpse of the recently discovered subspecies of Gobul "I wonder if I'll be able to make good stuff from this thing? Eh, probably, but I'll have to fight, like, 50 of them until I get a rare carve."

"Rez, you did it!" Penny popped out of her box and congratulated her friend "You technically killed the Kecha Wacha AND the Moss Gobul at the same time so... new record! Misson complete! Return to base and collect your rewards."

"Sure thing, Penny" Rez nodded before turning off her holographic communicator and going to carve her latest hunt. She put away her sword and pulled out her carving knife, retrieving a M.Gobul Spike+, and two M.Gobul Fin+'s before her knife began to wear out. She shrugged and began the long trek back home.

(Music Stop)

However, as she walked she felt a sharp pain in her head for a split second before it went away. She clutched her head and shook it around a bit before it wasn't present anymore, and continued walking. She had been having those headaches for as long as she was alive, and only happen after killing or capturing a monster. They are, unfortunately, no uncommon for her.

"Ah..." she shook her head a bit more, just for good measure "Alright, now this is getting outta hand. I gotta get to the bottom of these headaches..."

The road back to Ponyville in the quest caravan felt like an eternity to Rez, but overall it was pretty peaceful. In all actuality, Everfree and Ponyville weren't too far apart, but anticipation got the better of her and she anxiously awaited her arrival. Once the caravan reached the large town's hunter port, the green Pegasus leaped off with her goods almost immediately and took in a deep breath of air.

"Ah... Good to be back..." she smiled before rummaging through her stuff, checking and making sure she had everything from her most recent quest.

"Razor Wind!" a familiar voice called out to the Pegasus. She looked up and saw her best friend Pendragon Quill, or Penny, running straight for her with a grin on her face. The young Unicorn had an ash grey coat and curly red and blue mane, much like how a certain dress-making hunter in town would wear it.

"Hey there, Penny" Razor greeted "Thanks for that info when I needed it. I know I was-"

"A bit rude?" Pendragon asked, an eyebrow raised.

"Um, yeah" the green mare nodded in a bit of shame before realizing something "Hey, wait, how did you know?"

"One, because you were a bit rude on this mission today," the Unicorn spoke matter-of-factually "and two, you do this every day. It's not hard to understand your pattern once you get to know, well... you."

"Oh... sorry..." Razor blushed in embarrassment "But we're still friends, right?"

"Well, I've managed to hold out this long" Penny rolled her eyes "Might as well continue on."

"Aww, thanks girl!"

"Don't mention it. Now, what did you get on your adventures?"

"Well, let's check out the reward box and see" the green Pegasus said before trotting over to the quest box and taking a peek inside "Well, it WAS a low-rank quest, so I'm not surprised..."

"Why? What's in it?" the ash grey mare asked.

"A few nullberries, Kecha Wacha fur, and... Oh, this is surprising" Rez looked through the box, generally not being impressed until she saw something interesting "Apparently, I got a king talisman on my quest. It's for gunners, though..."

"Then sell it" Penny suggested.

"Yeah, probably the best move" Rez agreed before closing the box and allowing a few felynes to carry it off "So, what's been happening while I was gone?"

"Honestly, nothing much..." the curly maned Unicorn shrugged "But that aside, wanna go and have a drink?"

"Penny, you're 16" the green Pegasus deadpanned "You can't drink yet. Only I'm allowed to- AGH!!" she clutched her head as a sharp pain entered her mind without warning.

(Music Stop)

"Razor Wind!" Pendragon cried out, desperately trying to help her friend up "Razor Wind, please be okay!"

"Ahhh..." the pain in the white maned mare's head began to fade away "I'm... I'm okay now... Maybe we should cancel that drink plan you had."

"Good idea" the younger mare nodded "Instead, we're getting you straight to the hospital and checking you out. These headaches of yours are going to be the death of you, I swear..."

"It's fine... I'm fine..." Rez denied her pain "We don't have to-"

"Rez, I'm your friend" Penny stated "I actually care if you're eaten by a Zamtrios or electrocuted by a Zinogre, and right now I care enough to realize this is getting out of hand. What did you think you were gonna do about these headaches? Find out about them yourself?"

"Actually, yes" the green mare confirmed, smirked despite the pain coursing through her mind.

"You're unbelievable..." the Unicorn shook her head in disappointment "C'mon, let's get you to the hospital."

XXXXXX

As soon as Razor and Penny got to Ponyville's medical centre, or rather the hospital, the latter brought her friend to the examination room where a white Earth Pony nurse with a pink mane and silvery-blue eyes came and began the session. After a few minutes, the nurse, who introduced herself as nurse Redheart, gave her diagnosis.

"Her vital signs seem normal" she said as she looked over Rez's scans before looking at her patient "You say you've had these headaches since you were a young filly? Why did you not report this sooner?"

"My dad is a hunter" Rez explained "He really cares for me, but he spends too much time away from me. He never really noticed when I had these headaches. At the time they didn't hurt as much, if at all, so I kinda just shrugged them off."

"Understandable" Redheart nodded "Well, you seem perfectly normal... I'm going to take a guess and say these headaches are just a part of you, like how Ms. Hooves over there has cross eyes" she pointed at a grey mare with a blonde mane and crossed golden eyes who waved at the three "This is common in many, many ponies, Ms. Wind. No need to feel alarmed, okay?"

"Okay..." the green mare nodded.

"However, if these headaches begin to give you extreme pain, and I mean extreme pain, report to me without question" the nurse continued "I have a feeling this may be a sign of disease, but it's too early too be sure. You are still permitted to going on hunts."

"Thanks!" Rez nodded and smiled "That means a lot."

"Don't mention it" the white mare smiled kindly "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to attend to another of my patients. Ms. Hooves, may you please come this way?"

The cross eyed mare nodded before flying in Redheart's direction, bumping into a wall before finally flying through the examination door's room. Rez just stared for a moment.

"If I have anything like her, I don't wanna have these headaches anymore" she said.

"Razor, that's rude" Penny pointed out "But anyway, nurse Redheart said you were okay, but I still don't know..."

"Dude, it's okay" the green mare laughed before looking out a window "Eh... It's getting kinda dark... Maybe we should start heading home, eh?"

"Eh?" the ash grey mare giggled a bit "You're too Canadian for my taste... But sure, let's get back to the inn."

XXXXXX

It didn't take long for Rez to plop down in her bed and sleep like a log the second she got to her inn room. She and Penny stayed at an inn to accomplish quests in Ponyville, as this was not their hometown. While they stayed in different rooms, they were on the same floor in case one needed the other.

While the green mare of the two went to sleep immediately, the ash grey one stayed up for a bit longer. There was a reason she contacted Razor Wind instead of join her on hunts; she, much like Twilight Sparkle 18 years ago, wasn't much for hunting. She loved studying monsters and being the support rather than the hero. However, tonight's research was slightly different. She pulled out a large, heavy book from her desk and placed it on top of her bed. Crawling into said bed, she flicked on her reading lamp and opened the book.

"Let's see here..." she spoke to herself as she flipped through the pages, looking for something in particular "Ah, here it is! The Legend of the Great Calamity. Now, where's that paragraph... Ah, here we go!

Once, a great dragon, born of dust,
Had fell asleep, now had rust.
Two children it did bore,
Though the ashes they did soar.
The dragon of light and giver of life,
Gave peace and harmony free of strife.
The dragon of dark and bringer of doom,
From the shadows it did loom.
Sealed away for fear of power,
Atop a land of the greatest tower.
Thousand years pass with a sign to awaken,
When a chosen mind had already shaken.
From this strife will emerge a power great,
For that is what is thy fate.

"That's all that was deciphered from the stone slab in Ponyville museum" Penny remembered before focusing back on topic "No matter. After the events of today, this is beginning to... make... sense..."

She finally put two and two together. She let out a small gasp as before she began to freak out.

"Oh no... Rez's headaches, the dark dragon that killed her mom..." she panicked "This is all too like the legend! Could Rez be the one to awaken these monsters? No, the dark dragon has already been freed... Wait... The dark dragon's already been freed!! Okay, stay calm... stay calm... It hasn't appeared since the Crystal Empire attack, but that just worries me more..."

She took a look out her window and saw the beautiful night sky with the stars twinkling above her. She sighed before she rubbed her head and contemplated her thoughts.

"Where is it, and what is it planning?" she asked herself "Furthermore, if it's already awake, what role does Razor Wind have in all of this, if any? Only time will tell, I suppose..."

Suddenly, she yawned. Her day had been long, and she needed some rest. She closed the book and placed it back on her desk before flicking the reading lamp switch and hopping into bed. She sighed before she blissfully headed off to sleep.

Author's Notes:

And that was the chapter, guys! And Dark Thunder 144, I FINALLY put Derpy in! Are you happy?! Can you stop asking me about it now?! No, no, I kid, I kid. Hope you're pleased with this.

Some of you may be asking about the Moss Gobul and where I got the idea from. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with Monster Hunter X (though, a Gobul subspecies would be pretty cool). I instead got the idea from Monster Hunter Fanon. It's chock-full of great ideas and you can add your own pages whenever you want! The particular monster I used was the Moss Gobul, a very well made monster that I couldn't pass up. It was made by Imrik37.

I began playing Monster Hunter 3: Tri again on a new save, and I forgot how weak I was at the beginning of the game! :rainbowlaugh: Nonetheless, I'm doing great and I just killed my first... three Royal Ludroths. I forgot how much I disliked them underwater... :ajbemused:

[Act 1] (Chapter 2) Infused Power

The next morning was surely a lively one. Razor Wind and Penny had gotten up after a long night and went downstairs to eat some breakfast before they headed out into an area to hunt some monsters. However, the young Unicorn was about to lay some serious news on her best friend's mind.

"Hey, Rez?" she began as she and the green mare took their food trays with their meal on them over to a table and sat down "Look, there's something I gotta tell you. It might have something to do with your headaches."

"Hmm?" the Pegasus questioned as she ate her food, not particularly invested in listening to her friend.

"Well, you see, there might be-"

"A legend?" spoke a male voice neither of them had heard before. They turned to face the voice only to see an ash grey Unicorn stallion with a short black mane with some red highlights on the ends of his hairs, as well as a bitchin' goatee. He wore a whole set of Stygian Zinogre armour, albeit with his helmet off and in his magical grasp. On his back was a Brachydios longsword.

"Um, yeah" Penny nodded "How did you know?"

"I've heard about and seen my fair share of legends in my life" he gave a cocky grin "I've even tussled with one or two. Remember the Dire Miralis? I fought that."

"Actually," the Unicorn began, her tone being very matter-o-factually "the Dire Miralis is an extinct species of monster. If it was still alive today, the world would be covered in an endless smog, where the fires would burn for years and the-"

"Okay, okay, I get your point" the stallion rolled his eyes before reaching into his saddlebag and pulling out an odd gem "What do you have to say to this?"

"No way!" Penny's nerd mode, according to Razor Wind, had officially activated "T-This can't be! A Dire Dragongem! No, this has to be fake. You can clearly see it was made with-" she tapped it with her hoove and gasped in shock "...impossible. How did you get your hands on a Dire Dragongem? If they're not forged with, they turn to dust after about twenty years. Unless..."

"So you actually fought an Elder Dragon?" Rez looked up in admiration for the male hunter "That's so cool! What was it like? Was it tough? Did it do any super-powerful moves?!"

"Whoa, whoa, easy there" he chuckled a bit "All you gotta know is that it was fun to fight it. But I'm getting off topic, sorry. I heard the word 'legend' and couldn't help but feel intrigued. What're you guys going for, hmm?"

"Actually, we're more or less trying to solve a certain problem of ours" the Unicorn mare replied "My friend here has been having some headaches recently, and I think it might tie in with a certain legend."

"Wait, they do?" Rez asked before trying to act cool about it "I mean... Yeah, they do. They're not much of a problem though. I can totes bear through them."

"Really now?" Penny stared at her best friend "Well, whatever makes you happy, I suppose."

"Heh... You two remind me of my daughter" the stallion spoke up with a smile "I think you'd get along with her fairly well. She's not here right now though; she's training back in my hometown."

"Where would that be?" Rez asked.

"The border of the Badlands" he nodded before looking at the clock in the eating area "Good god, would you look at the time? I gotta catch the train back to Dracoville!" he turned back to the two mares and bowed a bit "Pleasure, ladies!" finally, he bolted out to catch his ride home.

"What an odd stallion..." Penny pointed out "And we never even got his name!"

"Don't worry your butt off, Penny" Razor spoke with her mouth full of food "At least he didn't get ours like some sorta creeper" she swallowed her food "But now I'm curious as to what his daughter's like. Is she nice? Is she cold and bitter?"

"Something tells me we'll see her sooner or later" the ash grey Unicorn shrugged "Anyway, as I was saying-"

"BAGGI ATTACK!!" somepony shouted from outside "GET ALL THE HUNTERS!!"

"Sorry Penny, this'll have to wait" Rez smiled before bolting out of the cafeteria to get her armour and fight the invading monsters.

"Razor Wind, wait!" Pendragon tried to reach out to her friend to stop her, but she was already gone "They're just Baggies, I'm sure you can skip one single day to hear about, y'know, your life."

The green Pegasus rushed outside with her Barioth equipment to find that an entire horde of Baggies, raptor-like blue and black versions of the purple and red Jaggies, had overrun the town. They began eating all the food in the shopping district, as well as rummage through vacant houses, messing up everypony's stuff. Razor grinned and was just about to strike one down when all of a sudden, a giant Baggi with a dark grey crest on its head popped out of nowhere and attempted to eat the mare.

"Whoa, let's settle down there for a sec, why don't cha?!" she yelled at the creature, now identified as a Great Baggi "Well, you're certainly large. But I've fought you guys before. What makes you so spec-"

The Great Baggi simply roared upwards as to summon more of its spawn. However, instead of normal Baggies coming to attack, five other Great Baggies came instead. They all roared at the huntress, preparing to attack.

"Well... That's new..." Razor simply stared in confusion for a sec before preparing to attack again "But still, you guys are no match for me! I'm the best hunter there is!"

"Really now?" spoke a female voice close to where Rez stood "Because here I was thinking I was the best hunter there is! Well, at least that's what my wife tells me."

The green Pegasus turned to see that a teal mare with Lavasioth armour and duel blades in her wings' grasp had rushed up to her, taking out several smaller Baggies along her way. Her long moss green mane stood out the back of her helmet and flowed in the wind. She gave a cocky grin that would give Razor's a run for its money.

"Y-You're..." was all Rez could say as she simply stared in awe of this certain celebrity of monster hunting.

"Teal Speck, the one and only" the mare winked "I'm guessing you're a fan of me from my Gogmazios hunt?"

"Not just that, but your Congalala Onslaught, the Luna-Teo-Tangle, the Great Hunt of the Lagiacrus, and your most recent one, The Rath of the Rathalos!" the green mare geeked out massively.

"Hahaha, looks like we got ourselves a true fan here! Well, now you get to show me what you're made of, kid" Teal laughed "If you're really my biggest fan, you'll take these monsters out lickity-split!"

"Watch me!" Razor grinned before running toward the Great Baggi troop and jumping up onto one of them. She then proceeded to stab its body without remorse until it fell over on its side. She then stuck her sword into its tail firmly and began swinging it around, knocking all the other monsters down before letting it go and sending it flying into the air upwards. Finally, she stuck her sword up into the air and let the blue raptor impale itself from the fall.

"Well, colour me impressed..." the teal veteran hunter smiled "Okay, you're my biggest fan then. Let's clean up here and I'll give you an autograph or something."

"Sure thing!" the green mare smiled before both of them charged forward and attacked the Great Baggies. With a leap, Teal jumped onto Rez's shield and bounced onto one of the creatures' heads and blew off its crest with a spinning attack from her dual swords, slashing and cracking its skull open and making its blood and brain fly out gruesomely. After this, Rez struck another Great Baggi with her shield, knocking it back a bit. Quickly, she struck its leg with her sword, cutting it clean off. She then leaped into the air and impaled the monster's side.

"Alright, three down, two to go!" Teal grinned.

"Rez!" Penny's holographic projection popped out from her friend's communicator "I'm picking up readings of something powerful heading your way!"

"Whoa, a pocket pet!" Teal stared at the hologram in awe "Nah, just messin'. All you cool kids have these holographic communicators now. Why, back in my day we'd ping each other when-"

"O-Oh my!" the ash grey mare said surprisingly before fading away.

"What's up with her?"

"Sorry about her" Razor apologized "She's usually pretty okay with other ponies, but sometimes, especially when somepony who happens to be famous, she sorta goes into shy-mode."

"Understandable" the teal mare nodded.

"Okay, let's finish this job!" the white maned mare grinned before charging right at the last two Great Baggi. She shield-struck one of them before impaling the other in the chest with her sword. Hopping on the body of the second one, she bounced onto the first and with a clean swipe, sliced off its head, blood pouring everywhere along the ground.

"Well, I gotta say, that was some show you put on" Teal smiled "I bet my wife would be VERY happy to meet you."

"Your wife?" Rez questioned before she finally realized "Oh, you mean Twilight Sparkle, the one that struck down the Shagaru Magala and basically saved the world, right?"

"Yeah, her" the teal Pegasus deadpanned.

"Oh... Sorry..." the green mare nervously laughed "But you still took down the Gogmazios, the monster that would have utterly obliterated the world even if the Shagaru had been taken down, right?"

"Hey, yeah, you're right!" Teal smiled "Well, now I know that-"

Suddenly, a loud and echoing roar was heard very close to the two. The smaller Baggies that stayed around even after their leaders had been killed off ran away, whimpering all the while. Smashing could be heard from the stands just a little bit away from the mares. As the noise got closer and closer, they prepared themselves for what awaited them. However, the sound soon stopped.

"Oh..." Teal said, disappointed "Well that was rather anticli-"

A giant grey fist burst and slid through the stands and into the street Teal Speck and Razor Wind were on. Connected to this grey fist was an ape-like beast with fur as black as darkness, giant horns and glowing red eyes. It turned and stared at the two hunters before clenching its hands into fists, going on all fours and roaring that majestic yet terrifying roar.

"How the heck did a Rajang get all the way from Galloping Gorge's forest over here?!" Rez shouted in shock.

"I dunno, but what I DO know is that we have to kill it before it hurts innocent ponies" Teal nodded before looking back at her partner with a cocky smile "I know this monster is technically G-rank, but what do you say we ignore the rules for a sec and save this town, eh?"

"Were you always this crazy when you were younger?"

"You know it, babe!" the teal mare laughed before rushing straight into battle. She hopped off the debris of a broken stand and onto the Rajang, pulling out her carving knife and stabbing the ever-living hell out of it. However, the ape shook violently to get the mare off its fur, whipping around and shaking everywhere. Unfortunately, Teal gave into the attempts of it knocking her off and fell onto the ground. Right before the dark beast smashed its fists on where the Pegasus was, the other Pegasus hunter swooped out from nowhere and used her shield to block the oncoming attack from hurting her idol.

"Thanks kid!" Teal smiled before running out and facing the beast again. Once Rez saw her partner was out of harms way, she pulled her shield back and just barely escaped the Rajang's attack. She soon joined Teal in her attack position. The ape merely roared again before a surge of electricity went through its fur and turned it yellow, emitting small shocks every once-in-a-while.

"Razor, that Rajang's enraged now!" Penny popped up in her hologram form again and notified her friend.

"REALLY?!" Razor sarcastically shouted "Bravo! Never would have guessed!!"

"Pipe down and listen in!" the ash grey Unicorn sternly spoke "The Rajang is still a mammal, which means its skin is soft. Even in an enraged state, its defenses haven't lowered. But its speed and attack have increased significantly. Find a way to break its attack pattern and strike it!"

"I'll find a way, thanks" Rez nodded before closing Penny's hologram and facing the Rajang again "Alright, you crap-spewing ape! Time to show you who the REAL powerhouse of this town is!"

The beast did nothing but fly into the air and roll around a bit before flying face-first into the two mares' positions. They quickly moved out of the way to avoid the attack, but Razor had gotten a small surge of electricity on her back legs.

"I've got thunderblight!" she shouted at Teal.

"Eat this!" she shouted back as she threw a small blue berry at the green Pegasus. Catching it with her wing, she took no chances and ate it, feeling immediately better!

"What was that?" Rez asked as the teal mare came right next to her

"That was a Nulberry" the veteran answered "It cures all blights except poison and fireblight. It's good to have, especially if you're going up against a something like a Zinogre, or in this case, a Rajang. Here, take a few more just in case..." she dumped a whole bunch of the berries on her teammate before heading back into battle.

After shaking off all the berries on her head, Razor began to combat the Rajang as well. She slid under the beast's body and scared its belly, making it flinch in a bit of pain. However, it was quick to grab the green mare and slam her into the ground.

"Kid!" Teal shouted in concern before looking right at the ape "Alright, now you pushed the line. Take... THIS!!" she ran forward, jumped up and slashed at its face, slicing off one of its horns and knocking it out of its enraged state. She took this time of it being dazed to help Razor up.

"Thanks" the white maned mare thanked.

"Don't mention it, kid" the older mare chuckled before giving her partner a playful noogie, causing the latter to giggle a bit. They then cut the crap and stared right back at the Rajang.

"Ready, Teal?" Rez asked.

"Ready, kid" Teal confirmed with a nod. Rez nodded as well right before charging at the Rajang and slashing down onto it. However, the ape grabbed her sword and halted it immediately.

"Hey, let go of my sword!" the green mare pulled and tugged the sword to try and get it out of the monster's hold, but to no avail. The Rajang simply lifted Rez up, still attached to her sword, and readied a punch from here to next Tuesday. That was the moment when the Pegasus snapped.

"I said..." she angrily spoke "...let go of my SWOOOORRRRRDDDD!!!!" a purple glow enveloped Rez before it transferred into her sword, it too beginning to glow purple. She yanked her blade out of the monster's hand, slicing off its fingers like they were butter and leaving a purple trail where the sword swung. She then joined with Teal who was still a bit amazed at the Pegasus's power, but shook it off to finish the job. They nodded at each other before running forward and putting their swords together, creating a full-on impalement knife of doom, as Teal would put it. They finally struck the dazed Rajang in the head.

Time stood still for the two mares. All they could hear was their own slow breathing. The Rajang itself was motionless, but it did not breath. In fact, not a few moments later once the two huntresses removed their weapons, it fell over on its side, blood from its head spilling out across the ground. The two mares huffed from exhaustion before putting away their weapons and collapsing on the dry part of the ground. The purple glow from Rez's sword faded away shortly after.

"You did... pretty good... kid..." Teal commented as she tried to get her breath back "Looks like this old mare... ain't so young anymore..."

"Nah..." Rez laughed a bit "You're still pretty good... and you're only, what? 38? That's not old..."

"Certainly feels like it..." the teal mare finally caught her breath as the two got up from their lying positions and into sitting ones "So, how'd you do that awesome purple glow stuff? Oh, oh, lemme guess! You trained under your father who's actually an ancient samurai who fought monsters back in his day, right?"

"Actually... no" the white maned mare giggled a bit "My dad is actually a huge dork, and he still hunts monsters to this day. As for my power..." she became slightly more serious "I... I dunno. This is totally new to me."

"You mean you've NEVER had this happen before?" Teal wondered "Whoa, dude! This is sick!"

"Rez! Rez, are you okay?!" Penny popped out in her holographic state "My scanner says the Rajang was killed, but there was a huge spike of energy really close to you. Did something happen?"

"Yeah, something happened" Razor nodded "You aren't gonna believe this, but a purple glow came out from nowhere and totally made my sword stronger!"

"I believe it" the ash grey mare spoke.

"Ugh, I knew you were going to- wait, what?" that quote caught the hunter by surprise "You actually believe me? Not even a question or a concern or anything?! Wait... Who are you and what did you do with Penny?"

"I'm still me, Rez" Penny sighed "But this might actually connect with something I've been trying to tell you for a while now. You might be the chosen one in a legend of a great calamity approaching."

"Well... That's pretty big stuff to lay down on me and then act all cool about it" the Pegasus said "But I don't think I'm any chosen one here, Penny. A superhero, maybe, but not some sort of ancient ancestor to-"

"Rez, chosen one or not, there has been a lot of things going on that the legend is telling" the Unicorn continued "For instance, this book describes your headaches, and the power that came with it. That can't be a coincidence!"

"That could be anyone!" Razor Wind laughed "There are tons of ponies with headaches and superpowers!"

"Well, looks like you left me with no other choice to convince you, Rez" Penny sighed "I'm sorry about this, but... This legend also describes the monster that took your mother's life fifteen years ago."

Razor stood silent for a moment after hearing about that beast. The Black Rathian haunted her from that day as a 3-year-old filly, and the nightmares haven't stopped since. She let out a huge sigh before speaking again.

"I'll see you in a bit" she said before closing the hologram and rubbing her head with her front hooves.

"Not a great childhood, I guess?" Teal asked.

"No, no, good childhood with my dad, just... not with my mom" the Pegasus sighed again "I didn't really know her much, but damn, I would have loved to live with her. My dad tells me she was a bit like me; adventurous, loud, annoying... but beautiful."

"I'm sorry for your loss..." the teal mare patted her partner's back "Tell you what; why don't you and I head back to my place and have something to eat, hmm? I'm sure you gotta be hungry for days."

"Y-Yeah, I'd like that" Rez smiled before they got up and began walking back towards their house.

"So... Rez, was it?" Teal wondered.

"Actually, it's Razor Wind, but everypony just calls me Rez" the white maned mare confirmed.

"Well then, Rez; something tells me you and I are gonna get along just fine..."

Author's Notes:

End of chapter! How'd you guys like it? Nonstop action! Sorta! Kinda! Not really! But still, you enjoyed it, right? So Rez has finally discovered her power, as well as shown her soft spot for her deceased mother. Will she cope with it? Only time can tell!

This chapter took a while to make mainly because I was sick as balls. I couldn't even bring myself to type! I needed rest, but I'm back in action, and chapters should be back on schedule now.

Also, I've now begun taking...
