A Nightly Visitor

by Lord Sylus of Night

Chapter 1: "I'm not exactly a morning person..."

"Hmm..." Twilight grumbled as she turned over in her bed, somewhat disturbed by the knock at the door she heard from her apartment. She dismissed the knock knowing that no sane pony would be knocking on her door that late at night or early in the morning. She settled back down and pulled Mrs. Buzzy in closer. Squeezing the life out of the inanimate object, a warm smile spreading across her face as she turned back over in her bed much more gentle than before. Laying on her side, Mrs. Buzzy nestled in her constricting embrace.

She dreamed about herself sitting amongst a sea of books, all that she had read over and over but she knew were fantastic and was teaching basic language and reading skills to two very large peaches. Usually dreams had some sort of feeling or message behind them but all that Twilight could get from her dream was that she was hungry and craved a midnight snack? Or she had some sort of adverse reaction to peaches? Whatever it was it did not make a lick of sense that she was teaching two fruits how to speak.

Do not get Twilight wrong she never discriminated when it came to who she would teach, she just expected them to be actual people and not giant fruits. Twilight groaned as she continued her lesson to the fruit. But she was rudely interrupted by another series of knocks on her front door, expelling her feelings that it was not her just hearing things wrong someone really did want to visit her this early in the morning.

Twilight groggily and angrily opened her eyes and turned over, trying to focus her vision on her alarm clock. It remained blurry for a few seconds before she saw in large neon red numbers, 3:17. The grogginess in her eyes would not leave and it felt as if there were sand in her eyes. She slung her bedsheet away and revealed her half naked self. All she wore was a long sleeve shirt that read ROCK in white lettering over a heart. It was rather large and was slightly revealing her shoulder. She groaned as she got up and growled to herself, "Who in their god forsaken mind would want to visit me at this hour!?"

Her words were sharp and had only hoped that the person who decided to visit her heard her venomous words. Twilight's footsteps were hard against her hardwood floor. There were two things in this world that she hated the most. Getting up when the sun is not even out and navigating through her apartment when she has to wake up that early. More often than not, she had to do both and it pissed her off to no end. She angrily threw her bedroom door open which she saw her two cats sitting on the couch look over in her direction. Their eyes almost glowed in the darkness. She waved a hand to both of them as they looked startled and she whispered reassuringly, "It's okay Romulus and Remus, I'm just a little frustrated is all."

They seemed to calm down and they settled back into their curled up ball positions. Romulus sat on the propped up end of the couch, overlooking his twin Remus who nearly sunk into the cushions. They were both Norwegian Forest Cats and they were only about a year old their fur having a grey tint and their "manes" were a white color, most people could not tell them apart but she could. Remus had shorter ears than Romulus and Romulus had a little scar on his nose.

Her apartment was of normal size. It had one bedroom, a living room, a study room, and a kitchen. All of which seemed conjoined. The study room held all of her books, notes, essays, research papers, etc. She was quickly running out of space in that room and noted to herself that she would have to reorganize her tomes, a task of which Romulus and Remus would love to get themselves involved with. She liked to call it getting "Kitty Help". The front door lied on the left wall that she took a hard left past her floor lamp and gingerly opened the door and as she did so thunderstruck, reminding her that it was storming outside. Her emotion turned to sympathy as she saw her visitor. All emotion draining from her face.

It was Rarity. But she did not look like herself. Her hair was not in its usual poofy and curly style, flattened by the rain washing away all of the progress she made that morning to always look her best. Her gaze staring straight in front of her with little to no life behind them, making her bright sky blue eyes more of a grey color. She hunched tugging at the corners of her bright tan trench coat that she wore over her slumped shoulders. Hiding her work clothes that consisted of a dark red polo, a jet black skirt, and a small apron that read, "Donut Joe's" on the open pocket at the front. The apron did not going past her skirt. Then there was her makeup, which all but washed away from the rain. Her lipstick remained which was a faded and dark red. She looked youthful and still as young as ever but the fire appeared gone and all life devoid on her stonelike face. Twilight's heart pained in her chest as she spoke in a monotoned voice, "I hate to trouble you this early in the morning but...to be honest...I need some company right about now."

With all sympathy and not wanting to see her friend in such a state anymore she stepped back and in a charismatic voice she answered, "Of course, come in."

Rarity ushered herself in and as she passed Twilight could feel that she was not herself at that moment. There was no life in her step as there usually was. There was no benevolence that seemed to radiate off of her. There was no unseasoned grace that she carried with her and in the air around her. Like a walking void of sadness. Twilight shut the door and locked it. Rarity wore high heels as Twilight listened to the clicking of the heels on the hard wood floor. The floor was of a dense mahogany and seemed dark in any lighting but with the dark blue light that nearly blackened the small apartment. The walls were a light blue and as Twilight focused she noticed that only dark colors could be seen in where they were at. Which made the mood that much more depressing.

Twilight approached Rarity and asked, "Can I take your coat?"

Rarity nodded and slid off the coat over her shoulders and handed it over to Twilight. Twilight slung it over her arm using it as a brief coat rack and she asked Rarity warranting her attention, "Can I get you anything? Coffee? Tea?"

Rarity looked away and said, "Water please."

Now Twilight was sure something was wrong. Knowing Rarity's british blood, she would have asked for tea in a heart beat. Twilight nodded and walked over to the coat rack that sat on the side of the door that caused it to be behind the door. She then moved her gaze to the kitchen and moseyed her way to the kitchen sink. She stopped as she realized that she was still only wearing a shirt and a pair of panties. Not the most appropriate thing to wear when talking to one of your friends but from the void-full look that Rarity had, it seemed urgent.

Twilight opened a cupboard that held the glasses that she bought from Ikea and took out two of them. As she brought them down to the sink she watched Rarity over the counter and into the living room. She saw Rarity take off her heels with an audible clack that awoke Romulus and Remus who looked at her with wonder even though they had seen Rarity a million times. She plopped down onto the couch and Romulus stood up and meandered over to the back of Rarity's head. Like a ghost he crept behind her head and sensing something was wrong he nuzzled her wet hair and began to purr loudly. Remus did the same, his paw steps depressing the couch and stopping short at Rarity's side and rubbing his face against her lifeless arm.

Twilight smiled as she watched them both throw their affection onto Rarity. Romulus and Remus had always been love craved since they were little kittens. Always wanting attention and wanting to please the saddest ones in the room. Twilight felt warm knowing how kind they were and how adorable they were when they did it. Twilight focused back at her task and filled the glasses about seventy five percent of the way for each and turned the water off with the back of her hand. She held both of the glasses and made her way to Rarity. She briefly thought in her mind that she had been seeing more and more of Rarity. She had grown very close to the beautiful woman that sat on her couch and even grown a little attached to her. Overstepping the boundary of what a friend is, and becoming much more than that. Twilight stepped past Rarity, dodging the coffee table and handed off one of the glasses in her hand to Rarity who replied, "Thank you."

She sat down close to Rarity and with her free hand grabbed Remus and when she sat down lowered him to the other side, of which he promptly stepped onto Twilight's lap. Rarity took a rather large gulp from her glass and stared at the cold liquid for a while. Twilight took a sip and as it lowered from her lips she asked in a worried tone, "So...what's wrong?"

Rarity shook her head, "Just...I don't know...work as has been rather taxing lately and my sewing clients have not been the easiest clients."

Twilight took another sip and rested the glass on the coffee table and scooted closer to Rarity until her bare leg was pressing against Rarity's skirt. Twilight rested her head on Rarity's shoulder and nuzzled her gently, a soft coo escaping Rarity's lips. Wrapping her arm back an around Rarity's shoulders and pulling her in closer for a hug. They shifted their position so that Rarity was sitting in Twilight's lap and intertwined their legs together, the soft feeling of her nylon stockings let out a contended sigh from Twilight. Rarity nestled herself closer to Twilight and leaned back so their heads were right next to one another.

The steady rise and fall of her chest was hypnotic and Twilight found her eyes drifting shut. She let out a ow yawn which stifled a giggle from Rarity, "Tired are we?"

Twilight was happy that she more or less returned to her usual self and Twilight returned with her eyes shut and a smile on her face, "I'm not exactly a morning person. You know this."

Twilight saw nothing but counted the seconds and felt a pair of soft and warm lips press against her cheek and her usual tone returned as she said, "Then perhaps we should retire to the bedroom."

She felt her head slightly move with the chilled touch of fingertips against her cheek and her lips meeting Rarity's own. The fingertips turned into her whole hand that soon glided up her cheek and into her ruffled hair, slowly combing through her violet locks. After a few seconds Twilight forced herself to open her eyes to stare into Rarity's. She found herself lost in the large orbs of bright sapphire blue. Life returned to them and seemed eager to fall asleep as she was. Rarity smiled and as she stood up she lightly grasped Twilight's hand and they stood up together.

She was glad that her girlfriend was in a better mood and followed close behind Rarity. Twilight thanked the stars that the bed was just a twin, this meant that they needed contact with one another. Trying to sleep and not spoon in a twin sized bed was difficult to say the least. A triumphant smile crossed Twilight's tired face. Too much studying cannot be bad for you, physically, not mentally.

Rarity stepped next to the bed that was a few feet a away from the door and asked turning to Twilight, "Do you mind if I borrow a shirt to wear? I prefer not to sleep in my work clothes."

Twilight gave a tired smile and said, "Yeah of course."

"You're the best darling."

And there it was, the one word that was always music to Twilight's ears. Rarity made it so that Twilight was her one and only darling, everyone else was "Dear" or "Dearie". It made Twilight happy that she did that, though she did not want to change Rarity for her own happiness. It was just a good plus since their initial start of their relationship. Twilight lifted the sheet and slid herself inside, letting the warmth envelope her, cozying herself inside.

Twilight looked and saw Rarity slip on another one of her night shirts that was a little long. A bleach white long sleeve shirt that was a little wide at the edge of the sleeves. They were damn well near the same size, only a slight height difference. She unzipped her skirt and pulled it off revealing her dark blue panties that then was curtained by the shirt. Rarity turned and with a slight smile on her face joined Twilight in the bed.

Rarity laid on her side, spooning against Twilight. A contended sigh released from her lips, Rarity nestling her head on Twilight's neck. Her breathing lightly brushing against the soft skin of her neck. Rarity wrapped her arms around Twilight and they folded their hands together and intertwined them as they let sleep overtake them. Before a few seconds past Twilight heard two meows echo over the night. Twilight smiled and said keeping her eyes shut, "Yes, Romulus and Remus you can join us."

Rarity giggled and they felt pressure slump the edges of the bed and felt as the cats rested next to either one of them. With sleep not overtaking them initially Rarity planted a gentle kiss on the nape of Twilight's neck and said, "Good night darling."

Twilight turned and met the lips with that of her own and said after their short kiss, "Good night my lady."

Author's Notes:

I was bound to ship these two again. Ever since I first watched the show I loved both of these characters, with Twilight it was instant. But Rarity, she had to grow on me because I had the mentality of "Nothing too girly!" but I then decided to just embrace it and accept it for what it is and then saw Rarity and she has always been my favorite out of the mane six since.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed yourself. I will most likely be writing more one offs. I will be taking a short break with my larger projects. Take a little bit of stress off my shoulders and more time for me to read and continue with Sylus Reviews.

Sorry for all of you out there who are waiting for an update on any of my current projects, I just need a small break from a large commitment. I need to find the incentive to write large fics again. So for now I'll be sticking with Sylus Reviews and One Offs. Who knows, perhaps I will compile them one day. Sorry about the vague details on why Rarity is sad, I had to keep it vague if I wanted to focus on the adorable fluff. See you lovelies later!
