The Photo Booth

Chapter 1: The Photo Booth

The sun was shining brightly down onto Ponyville, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The birds chirped cheerfully and the wind softly whistled through the air. Today was a truly perfect day. However, this day was a special day, for today was the day that a traveling carnival had come to lighten up the lives of everypony. Ponies of all ages had come to play game, watch shows and just have a good time. Nothing could ruin this day!

Two ponies, a mare and a stallion, trotted through the carnival grounds with smiles on their faces, looking at all the pretty tents and fun games to play. The mare, an Earth Pony, donned a cinnamon coat and a wavy brown mane. Her eyes were hazel and around her neck were her signature blue earphones. The stallion, a Pegasus, was lime green and had a short, messy purple and blue mane, wearing his own article of clothing; a black leather jacket. They were, of course, marefriend and coltfriend, and had been enjoying each others company for many months.

"What do you want to do first, Bike?" the mare asked her coltfriend, named Bike Cruiser.

"Whatever you wanna do, babe" the stallion smiled at his marefriend, named Kilala. The young mare thought long and hard about her decision before finally eying an old and rusted up blue photo booth. Her eyes lit up and her smile got larger.

"See that photo booth over there?" she asked Bike, who nodded in confirmation "Why don't we take a photo? That way, we can always look back at it and remember our time here?"

"You mean that rusted up old-" he was about to finish his sentence until he saw that his marefriend was attempting the 'puppy dog eyes' trick on him, to which he eventually caved in and sighed "Alright, alright..."

The two walked over to the rather rusted blue photo booth and stepped inside. They closed the curtain before Kilala slipped a bit into the machine to start it up.

"Now, remember to make the silliest face you can, okay?" she asked her coltfriend.

"Yeah, yeah, sure babe" Bike Cruiser rolled his eyes before sticking out his tongue at the camera. Kilala hugged the stallion next to her in a loving embrace and kissed him on the cheek for the photo. Finally, the camera took the picture and it slowly rolled out from the output port. The cinnamon mare took the photo and walked out with her coltfriend, staring at it the whole time.

"This came out great!" she grinned "A shame nopony used that photo booth for so long. Well, at least I think they haven't anyway. It's all rusted and beat up and stuff."

As Kilala was talking, Bike eyed something and immediately smiled. A shiver went down his spine as he watched the object move away. He finally turned to his marefriend and said:

"Hey babe? I gotta go take a whiz or whatevs you mares say. I won't be long, kay?"

"Hmm? Oh yeah, sure thing! I'll be here waiting!" the mare smiled innocently. The lime green stallion walked away from Kilala, hastily following what he was looking at earlier. The young mare stood on her hind legs and leaned on the old photo booth on her back. She smiled as she looked at the picture, already imagining memories of them here in this carnival. She let out a sigh of joy.

Minutes had turned into hours as Kilala waited for her coltfriend to return. Less ponies roamed the carnival grounds now that the sun was beginning to set. However, she stayed at the booth patiently, being true to her word. However, now she was getting curious and worried. It doesn't take that long to go to the washroom, so what was taking him so long? What if he was attacked by robbers or brought into by the police? She thought the worst, but had to stay to uphold her promise. No, she couldn't do that! Her coltfriend could be in serious trouble!

Without a second thought, she dashed off in the direction of which Bike Cruiser had gone off to. She hastily looked around everywhere she could along the way, including tents, game counters and, oddly enough, trash cans. But no matter how long Kilala searched, she just could not find her stallion.

Then, she passed a bar blasting music from inside. The bar was also a tent from the same carnival company, but it claimed to have the best beer in Equestria. Her and Bike went there earlier today to try it out, and while it maybe wasn't the best beer ever, it was certainly very good. She slowly opened up the tent door to reveal what had to be hundreds of ponies dancing and getting drunk. Lights were flashing everywhere and DJ Pon3 was there as well, blasting jams throughout the bar.

Then she saw him. She saw Bike Cruiser. Only now, he was talking with another mare. Perhaps they were old friends? That's what Kilala thought, until she saw them kiss each other on the lips. She gasped in shock before she felt a watery substance travel down her cheeks. Before she could go all out in her crying she fled the scene immediately.

She had sat back down by the photo booth to have some time to herself. It was now nighttime, and she was in an upright fetal position, crying quietly. Her eyes had swelled slightly from all the crying and a bit of her makeup was now running down her cheeks. She held the picture taken with Bike and stared at it, thinking it was all a dream and that when she would wake up, she would be back in her bed, her coltfriend calling her the next minute and still loving her. But no matter how much she thought of it, she knew it was all real. Bike Cruiser had cheated on her. Before she was about to cry again, she heard a female voice.

"Hey kid, whatcha crying about?" the voice asked her. She looked up and saw a Unicorn mare only a few years older than her with a chocolate brown coat and an even darker brown mane. She wore a smug grin on her face, yet her violet eyes showed concern and remorse for the teen mare in front of her.

"Go away..." Kilala softly spoke, not wanting to embarrass herself anymore than she had to "I don't wanna talk right now..."

"Sorry, kid" the older mare smiled "Not gonna leave you be until you tell me what's up. You can darn well try to make me leave, but it'll fail, I can guarantee it."

Kilala thought long and hard about the pony in front of her.

'She sounded quite serious when she said that last part of her sentence,' she thought to herself, 'and since she sounded serious, that means she is serious, which means that I'm stuck here until I tell her.'

"...my coltfriend cheated on me..." the cinnamon mare finally spoke after a long few seconds. The silence from both of them after that was actually quite deafening. Finally, the elder mare let out a small chuckle, which eventually evolved into a hearty laugh. Kilala was slightly saddened by this, but then the mare spoke again and said:

"Kid, you're gonna let that asshole get you down? Absolutely no point. He's a dick, and from what I can see, you totally deserve better than him! Trust me, I'm used to break-ups and cheaters."

"You are?" Kilala asked.

"Hell yeah, I am!" the mare smiled again before noticing the picture in her hoof "Hey, is that the dick-wad that cheated on you?"

"Y-Yeah?"

"I say you rip it up!"

"W-What?!" Kilala was surprised by this request "B-B-But..."

"No buts, kiddo" the chocolate brown mare said with a more serious look now "Ripping that pic is the first step to moving on. Besides, why the hell would you want to keep a photo of the biggest dick in the universe?"

"I... I..." the younger mare was at a loss for words, but she finally understood what she had to do "...you're right! I don't need him! He's a... He's a..."

"Dick? Asshole? Jerk off?" the older mare suggested a few names with a small grin "Take your pick, I'm sure that he-"

"Douchebag!" Kilala smiled as she said that word.

"Now we're talking!" the mare laughed "By the way, the name's Lopoddity. Peeps just call me Loppie though."

"My name's Kilala" the young pony smiled before getting up to hug Lopoddity "Thank you for encouraging me again..."

"Well, never let it be said I'm not a caring, loving person" she hugged back before noticing just where they were "Hey, isn't this that old photo booth the carnies take with them and never fix because they're lazy?"

"Um... I think so..." Kilala let go of the mare to look at the booth.

"Wanna take a picture?" Loppie asked before nodding at the picture now on the ground "I mean, the thing still clearly works."

"Really? But, didn't we just meet?" the younger mare questioned.

"Sure, but that doesn't mean we can't become friends now!" the chocolate brown mare laughed "Think of this as first step to an everlasting friendship. Damn, that sound as corny as crap..."

"You know what? Yeah, I'd like that..." Kilala smiled before looking down at the photo again. She picked it up with her hooves before ripping it to shreds. The pieces danced away into the air, being whisked away by the soft breezes. The two mare watched them fly away before looking back at each other and giggling.

"Alright, let's take the pic already!" Lopoddity laughed before magically creating a Kleenex and wiping away her new friend's tears. She then stole her headphones and put them around her neck.

"Hey! Jerk!" Ki giggled.

"Ah, ah, ah! I'm taking the photo with them, and that's final" the older mare laughed "Besides, I look DAYUM sexy in these!" she made a kissy face, causing Kilala to laugh some more. Finally, the two stepped into the booth and flicked a bit into the slot, starting up the machine and preparing the camera.

"Make the silliest face you can, okay?" Loppie asked her new friend before side hugging the younger mare.

"I'll make the silliest face you've ever seen!" Ki smiled before posing for the camera. The flash finally went off and took the picture, forever sealing the memory and starting a great friendship between the two.

'Lopoddity was right' thought Kilala 'I DO deserve better than that jerk! I'm not sure if I would've realized that if she hadn't rolled around. Thank you, Loppie. Thank you for everything...'

Author's Notes:

And that's that. I'm sure that we've all learned a lesson or two from this experience. I know this wasn't the best one-shot ever, but I think it served its purpose, and I'm more than proud of it. :ajsmug:

Thank you Kilala and Lopoddity for always making me laugh when my days are down with your silly pictures and funny stories. In fact, you two are the reason I went into writing in the first place! I wanted to write my own stories like you two, and this is how far I've come since then. :pinkiehappy:

Oh, and no, this isn't a romance fic, as stated many-a-times. I respect you guys more than that. :rainbowkiss:

Thank you for everything, and I can't wait for your next pictures to come out soon. Until then! Oh, and give Equestria-Prevails my best!
