Spike and His Six Lovely Ladies
Chapter 5: Happily Everafter
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSpike stood in front of the mirror dressed in Rarity’s finest handcrafted custom suit, messing with the bow tie from his youth. “Bow ties are cool. As for you, Spike, looking good, looking really good.” He looked out the window. Canterlot was beautiful in its own majestic way, but the natural beauty of home was still his favorite. He had spent his time preparing reminiscing about the most important week of his life. It had brought him here, to these doors before him. It had also gotten him more than a little aroused, which, considering what lay beyond, was rather awkward. Here he was about to close one chapter of his life, only to begin another. The past brought warmth and happiness to his heart, and the future only promised to expand those feelings further. This was it, twilight, the sun was just barely on the horizon and the room was flooded with purple light. “Go time.”
His hands pushed the door aside, and he walked in front of a crowd of his closest friends, family, and just about everyone else he had met in his life. It was breath-taking, the throne room decorated in white and gold just for the occasion. There in the front row, the Cutie Mark Crusaders, Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, and Applebloom sat together smiling at him. The rambunctious fillies had grown into equally destructive mares. Scootaloo was pretending to gag at him, Sweetie Belle was making kissy faces, and Applebloom was winking at him suggestively. Beside them sat Sweetie’s mom and Granny Smith, and next to them sat the rest of the mothers. Scootaloo’s mom had taken a seat behind her daughter with her husband, and, on a bench in the middle, Spike spotted Derpy leaning dreamily against Dr. Whooves with Dinky and Sparkler on her other side. Even Fancy Pants and his wife Fleur were in attendance, the power couple of Canterlot and good friends of his and the girls. Pip sat off to the side, Diamond Tiara and Twist each holding on to one of his arms. In front of all of them was Spike’s destination, where three alicorn princesses stood awaiting him. Celestia, Goddess of the Sun, Luna, Mistress of the Night, and Cadence, Advocate of Love, or, as Spike saw them, three mares who were like family with really cool titles.
Celestia greeted the drake as he took his spot before her. “Hello, Spike.” Her white coat, sun shaped Cutie mark, and ethereal multi-colored mane completed her regal appearance.
“Celestia, Luna, Cadence.” He had dropped the formalities years ago.
With a smile, Cadence, a pink alicorn with a tri-colored mane composing of an off white, pink, and purple and a blue crystal heart on her flank. “Personally made sure that we’re changeling free on this momentous occasion,” she said with a wink. “I worry this is going to give Shining Armor ideas.”
The comment nearly made Spike lose his composure. “Why, a mare caught your eye, and you don’t think he can handle two of you?”
“Burn.” Luna’s midnight blue coat and her astral mane looked stunning in the late hour; plus, she really enjoyed the new lingo she had picked up over the years. “I do wonder though, what kind of skills must one have to be in your position?”
The sun goddess's face was alight. “Luna! This is not an appropriate time.”
“What, it’s not like I asked him to see where my crescent moon in the night sky Cutie Mark meets. Sister, sometimes you are too refined.”
All three sets of eyes were on Luna. Thankfully, before anyone could comment, the organ began to play.
The large doors in the back of the room swung open revealing thirteen ponies walking in six pairs: Rarity and Magnum, Twilight, Shining Armor, and Orion , Pinkie Pie and Clyde, Applejack and Big Mac, Fluttershy and her father, and Rainbow Dash and hers. Each of the mares wore beautiful white dresses designed by Rarity for just the occasion. They looked elegant, lovely, and amazing, all eyes were on them. Their male escorts wore suits, except Shining, who was dressed in his Royal Guard/ Prince of the Crystal Kingdom uniform. Rarity seemed to be enjoying the attention, her head held high, and Rainbow Dash was right there with her, strutting down the aisle. Pinkie Pie was hopping around, oblivious to everything around her, while Fluttershy was trying to hide behind her father . Applejack was not acting any differently than if she had been taking a stroll through Ponyville, and Twilight only seemed to be partially there, her mind no doubt running down the checklist one final time to make sure everything was going as planned.
Once they reached the alter, the fathers headed to join their wives in the stand, while Shining Armor and Big Mac went to the right side and stood, all of them seemed to be trying to fight back liquid pride. Spike now stood in the middle of the six girls, with Rarity and Twilight directly beside him.
Taking in a breath of air, Celestia began, “We welcome you all here today for an event that is sure to shape the future of Equestria. For today, Twilight, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash, the Elements of Harmony, are to marry their love , Spike, one of Equestira’s greatest heroes.”
Sure, save a kingdom or two a couple dozen times and suddenly you’re a great hero, most of the time the six incredible ponies around him were the real heroes. He smirked; he was pretty awesome himself though. Here he was getting married not only to the six most amazing mares of all time, but to the loves of his life, and, considering a dragon’s lifespan, that was pretty impressive and a little scary. It was the good kind of scary though, the kind where the heart races in anticipation and excitement.
“I share the honor of overseeing this wedding with my sister and niece.”
Cadence looked over the crowd, before stealing a glance at her own loving husband. “Love is a concept that is hard to define, but each of us knows it when we embrace it and are shown it. Nowadays , we often see marriage as a commitment between two beings, but today we see a rare occasion where multiple partners are truly in love. It is a wonderful thing to see these ponies and this dragon finding love in their own way.”
He took a look over his brides’ faces. They looked happier than he had ever seen them, and he could certainly relate. In a matter of minutes they would begin their new lives… although, they had been living with one another for years. The whole thing was really more of a formality, but it still thrilled him to no end to think about what he was doing. Without a doubt, he knew they felt the same.
“Now, before we three pronounce these young lovers in matrimony, I have been asked by the groom to allow him to speak of the mares he cares so deeply for.”
Moving in front of each of his loves respectively, Spike made his vows, “Rarity, I want everyone here to know of the passion, creativity, and heart you showed in bringing us together. When the rest of us were confused and afraid of hurting one another you took action. I guess it took another hopeless romantic to piece it all together.
Twilight… you are my oldest friend, since I was born in fact. All those nights of hard work and studying really paid off, because your knowledge and insight has always guided me down the right path. It really shouldn’t be so surprising that path led straight to you.
Fluttershy, the first day I came to Ponyville you were so enthralled me. In fact, you were the only pony who cared more about who I was, than who Twilight was. It made me feel special, truly welcome and wanted, and, since that day, you’ve never once taken that feeling of belonging away.
Pinkie Pie, oh Pinkie, I’ve never met anyone with so much flare for life, or so many ways for bending reality. Even in the deepest darkness and the saddest of times you can bring a smile to everyone around you.
Then we have THE Rainbow Dash, the Wonderbolt whose mere appearance in a room makes it twenty percent cooler.” The Pegasus rolled her eyes, swearing she would never live that down. “All kidding aside, you challenge me time and time again to be better. When it came time for me to learn to fly, you took me under your wing. I know that when you’re by my side I always have a wingpony.”
Rainbow Dash smirked, ready to get some revenge. “That’s captain to you; everyone knows you’re the wingdragon.” A couple of laughs were heard from the crowd.
Shaking his head playfully, Spike moved to the last remaining mare. “And Applejack, whenever I needed a shoulder to hold me up, I could trust you to be there. A few times, it was even my honor to be your shoulder. You’ve told me hard truths because you knew I needed to hear them. It’s your strength and honesty that keeps me on the ground, so I don’t fly too high into the sun.
Each of you has enriched my life in ways I can’t even begin to describe. I know that whatever the future holds for us, that I want to be there by your sides, and, I hope, that you’ll be by mine. I’ve said it hundreds of times over the years I’m sure, but I’ve meant it every time… I love you all.”
Luna couldn’t help but think that while short, his words had been well chosen and meaningful. “Well said, young one. Now, these beautiful mares of yours have something they would like to say to you. Rarity, I believe the rest have decided on you as their speaker.”
The white unicorn received a group hug, before starting. “It is my honor to have been chosen to speak of our love in front of our friends and family.” She placed her hoof on her chest, and took a deep breath, composing herself. “Spike when we were younger, we often treated you… well, like a child. Sometimes, especially in my own case, we even took advantage of your willingness to help and show how mature you were. You fought Diamond Dogs, Timberwolves, a greedy dragon, an ancient evil king, and that was before you even reached our chins standing on two legs. After that, your accomplishments only seemed to get greater, each to help or protect us. However, it was just as much the little things you did every day for us that made us fall for you. Love is selfish, it’s about caring more about someone else than yourself, and you, Spikey-Wikey, exemplify that better than anyone I have ever met or heard of. Your last growth spurt finally made our feelings impossible to ignore any longer. We couldn’t tell ourselves that you were still too young anymore. Spike, you’ve been our hero, our best friend, our love, and I know you will always be, but now, we couldn’t be prouder or more thrilled to be adding husband to that list.”
The rest of the girls stepped forward with Rarity, joining in on the last part. “We love you,” Rarity added, “our knight in scaled armor.”
Smiling down at the ponies and the dragon who she had watched grow up, Celestia smiled proudly. “Do you accept the blessing of the three Princess of Equestria to be eternally wed?”
The seven almost shouted, in unison, “We do!”
Luna wiped a tear away with her hoof. “Then so it shall be…. Well, what are you waiting for? Kiss already!”
Each of the girls took a turn practically jumping into kiss Spike. They marched happily down the aisle, the crowd and Cadence falling in behind them. A few drops of liquid pride rolled dowm the cheeks of the stallions who had given the mares away.
Once everyone was gone, Luna looked at Celestia innocently. “Do you think they’d let us borrow him for a night?
The white fur turned red on her face. “LUNA!”
“What? Six mares Celestia,” Luna grabbed her sister’s shoulders and shook her slightly, “six mares! He obviously has some impressive skills, and it’s been so long. We could use the stress relief.”
The comment rang too true to the Sun Goddess. “…We’ll talk about it with them later.”
“Very well.” Luna quickly looked around making sure they were alone. “What about the matter of their immortality?”
There was a quiet moment, Celestia’s face had a frown for the first time that day. “I don’t want to ruin their wedding day. The seven of them have been invited to the castle tomorrow. At that time, I will need your help casting the age lock spell on Spike. Once we solve the problem of him having another growth spurt, we will tell them that the Elements of Harmony have bestowed upon them immortality. After that, I cannot say. Though, I suspect that there will be happiness and sorrow. The realization that their families and other friends will die before them will be hard, but knowing that they never have to worry about leaving Spike alone in the world without them will make it easier.”
Wrapping her hoof around her sister’s neck, Luna comforted her sister. “Did you plan this all those years ago, Celly? Sending the young drake who you had made sure was raised with the finest knowledge, the greatest skill, an abundance of compassion, and so much more with Twilight to live with the Elements.”
Celestia playfully shoved Luna off her, her mood improving quickly. She had missed her sister for so long that having her back was truly a gift. “I can’t control ponies or the future, Luna, you know that. No, I simply planted a seed that I hoped would sprout and grow into something wonderful. Even I’m amazed; six mares, it is quite the impressive feat.”
The devious glare returned to the Princess of the Night’s eye. “And that’s why we need to, how do the kids say it these days, hit that?”
