Week One day Four: Rest for the Warriors
[Evening]
(Classroom)
“I still don’t see why I have to continue school during the war. It’s not like any of this stuff applies to me.” Sweetie Belle said as she laid her head on the desk as the teacher continued her lecture.
“Remember class, if we can’t learn from our past mistakes, then we are doomed to repeat it.” Taiga said as she heard the bell to the school ring. “Be sure to study for the quiz next week if any of you survive. Those who don’t will be excuse!”
“Lucky for them then huh?” Sweetie belle thought as the unicorn gather her stuff. “Day four of the Holy Grail War. Only three more days before my fight with Shinji and his Servant. I hope we can win against him at the end of the week.”
“Having doubt in yourself Master?” Saber asked, causing Sweetie Belle to look around the room.
“Saber? Where are you?”
“Kinda invisible at the moment. Taiga said Servants aren’t allowed in the classroom.”
“Couldn’t you fight her to stay in here instead of being invisible?”
“And suffer the wrath of The Tiger? I think not. I prefer to have head not bit on thank you. Anyway, you seem to be a little depress. Worry about our fight with Shinji at the end of the week?” Saber asked as Sweetie Belle nodded. “Try not to worry about it that much. Whatever happens I’ll do my best to win for your sake. I prefer not to have guilt on my conscious if I fail.”
“It’s kinda hard not to think about it, but I’ll try not to.” Sweetie Belle said as she was about to leave the classroom from today’s supposed lesson, Saber appeared a few inches next to her.
“Just a heads up if you didn’t know Master, but knowledge of your enemies tactics is key. For that reason, you must drain the campus of information every single day. Or at least try to do that.”
“Seriously? As if I had enough to worry about, now I have to look up info on our opponents?”
“I know it’s a bit much. But as long as we’re in this place, we have to do whatever it takes to survive without cheating. I prefer not to have a repeat of what will happen if we fail.”
“Y-Yeah.” Sweetie Belle sighed as she made her way to the door of the classroom. “The sooner we win this, the sooner we can go home and away from all this.”
“Indeed.” Saber said as she followed the young unicorn out the classroom. As they made their way down the fall, the duo noticed a familiar person down the hall. “Well will you look at that. Ti seems our delicate little friend is engaged in some sort of dispute. We might be able to learn something to our advantage.”
“Let’s go over there and check it out, shall we?” Sweetie Belle suggested as a sly grin appear on her face.
“You know you not leading me to believing that you’re not all that innocent. But I’m not complaining at this point.” The Servant said as they secretly walked up behind Shinji.
“Have you been inside the Arena yet? Interesting place, isn’t it? I thought it was amazing at first, but it’s really pretty primitive. It’s like an ocean pulled from a story. I even saw a master who managed to summon Armstrong. Sorry, I was just messing with you. I dig the sea theme. Overall the game’s pretty well done.”
“What’s this? You actually managed to summon a decent Servant, then.” Rin said as she place a finger on her chin. “Asia’s premiere hacker, Shinji Matou?”
“You know, I may have had to take crap from you in the past, but this time the winner is me!” Shinji said with a smug expression on his face. “With her armada to back me up, I’m invincible. Nothing you can do will be able to even touch me.”
“Oho, you must be pretty confident to give out information about your Servant to an enemy, Mayou.”
“Yeah, not one of your best moments idiot.” Saber thought as she and Sweetie Belle notice Shinji’s face turn bright red as he suddenly realizes how big of a mistake he just made.
“Err...y-yeah. Yeah, that’s right! One-sided fights bore me, so think of this as a gift! B-But is it really?! I might just be lying. You might want to forget what I said.”
“That is true. A single word would never expose a Servant’s true name, after all. However, a class that controls an armada and is tied to a ship will thin out the candidates some. How will she attack? Bombardment, or a frontal assault? It’ll definitely be physical in nature.”
“Gah…!”
“Well, I guess the only thing left for me to do is prepare a great many physical barriers.” Rin said as Shinji’s face goes from bright red to a terrifying shade of blue right before Saber and Sweetie Belle’s eyes.
“Rule number 1 of war or fighting an opponent. Once you learn something about an enemy Servant, you can begin to make plans to defeat them. If both sides are strong, but only one side plans, the results of the battle would be obvious.”
“So that’s what Twilight means by knowledge is power.”
“Bingo my young master.” Saber said as she ruffled up Sweetie Belle’s mane before looking back at Shinji and Rin’s conversation.
“Oh, one more thing. I wonder if the Invincible Armada might be relevant to anything...I mean, others will start making references to that, right? Won’t that just piss off your Servant?”
Matrix Level: 2
Enemy Servant Infor Obtained!
“Looks like we just got ourselves some more info on his Servant.” Sweetie Belle whispered.
“W-Well...whatever. Knowledge means nothing if you can’t do anything with it. There’s a good chance that you and I will never have to face each other.” With that final pathetic attempt at a comeback, Shinji turns and starts walking away. Only for him to stop as he notice Sweetie Belle and Saber standing in his direction. “You…! You weren’t there the entire time, were you? WERE YOU?!”
“Depends, I pretty sure invincible armada pretty gave us a little bit of help in looking up your servant.” Saber said with a smirk on her face.
“H-Heh...Well, it’s not like you can stop the Invincible Arm-Err...I mean my Servant...Whatever...my victory is all but assured. Catch you later freak. Oh, and try not to disappoint me.” Shinji said as he walks pass the duo and down the hallway.
“*Sigh* It seems that there are a great many Masters who don’t understand the stakes involved.” Rin said as she made her way downstairs.
“I hate to agree with the harpy, but she’s right. Our opponent doesn’t grasp the power of information. Though difficult, it is vital that we scour the Arena and the campus for valuable information….Dear lord I sound like Twilight.”
“Kinda sorta, but unlike Twilight you’re lecturing is more interesting and useful.”
“That’s because we’re in this stupid place...but I’ll take that as a complement. So what do you want to do now?”
“Well we could always take a break from the Arena and just relax a bit.”
“Hm, as the old saying goes. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy. Plus we have been fighting for a bit. I guess we can relax for today. Where do you want to go?”
“The rooftop if you don’t mind? I kinda want to see the sunset.”
“You do know it’s not the real sun right?”
“It the thought that counts.”
“Fair enough, come along master. Let’s head up to the rooftop.”
[Rooftop]
“I have give the Moon cells credit for making the sun look like it’s setting actually. Though I wouldn’t mind having it back in Ponyville.” Saber said as she placed Sweetie Belle next to her while handing her lectus sandwich. “Reminds me of when I was back home during after school hours.”
“It looks nice, I still miss home and my sister.” Sweetie Belle replied as she took a bite out of her sandwich.
“As long as we work together, then we’ll be able to go home. Just remember that no matter who we have to face whether it be friend or foe, we have to keep going until the end.”
“Yeah, I guess you're right. I hope Rarity isn’t worrying to much back home.”
“If the grail is telling them about what’s going on, then I’m sure she’ll be worried...but knowing him he pretty much isn’t so...I guess when you think about is worry about where you are.”
“I just hope nopony get hurt in this stupid thing.” Sweetie Belle huffs.
“It’s a war Sweetie Belle. There will be those that we’ll have to kill if we ever want to leave here.” Saber leaned back as she was now laying on her back while looking the digital sky. “Which mean we’ll have to kill our opponents.”
“Maybe there a way to win without hurting them.” Sweetie Belle asked as she thought about it.
“If there was, then we’d have been out of here by now. As the rules imply, there can only be one winner of the Holy Grail War. If we fail to comply or win, then we die…”
“I know…” Replied Sweetie Belle as she looked at the sunset.
“Fate must be cruel for bringing you in...sorry that you’re involved in this. A child as innocent as you shouldn’t be in this place.”
“At least I got to meet you Saber.” Sweetie Belle said with a smile. “First time I made friends with a hero.”
“U-Um….Thanks.” Saber said as a blush appeared on her face. “I have to say you’re doing pretty well as a Master. Though I think you would do much better under different terms then this.”
“It okay, with your around I feel safe being here. Without you I don’t know what I would have done.”
“I’m sure you’ld be fine. You really need to stop doubting yourself so much.”
“Okay, I’ll try.”
Saber sighed as she pulled herself up from the floor and placed a hand on the young unicorns head. “You remind of how I was when I was your age. I was always unsure of myself, timid, and scared of certain things.”
“Really? Wow, what happened to make be so, well not timid, scared and unsure of yourself?”
“I had Caster and Gilgamesh to help with that. Mostly Gilgamesh and her one advice that help me get over my timid self.” Saber cleared her throat as she tried to imitate Gilgamesh’s voice. “Man the fuck up and get over it!” She said then fake punched herself.
Sweetie Belle giggled at this and smiled. “Sounds like Scootaloo, only she swears.”
“That and she not very good when it comes to giving out constructive advice. But she wasn’t wrong about that. Later on in one’s life, you have to push yourself to overcome your fears. Change is a good thing as long as you don’t lose yourself in the process.”
“Thanks Saber, that means a lot.” Sweetie Belle replied as she got up. “Okay I’m ready let's do this!”
“Nice to see you up and full of determination.” Saber said as she walked over to the door to the roof. “Let’s head back to our room for today. Tomorrow we’re going over to the chapel.”
“Okay.” Sweetie Belle said as she followed Saber back to their room.
“Innocent as she is…..I just hope this war doesn’t change her into something worse.” Saber thought as she took a glance at her sword. “I prefer not to be forced to do anything….drastic.” with that in mind, Saber and Sweetie Belle walked downstairs and retired to their room for the day. Unbenounced to the duo, a faded silhouette of a man wearing what appears to be something that you would wear in a science lab. Watching them from a safe distance.
“Hm….interesting.” He said while placing his hands in his lab coat pockets. “This should be an interesting turn of events.” The man said as he soon disappeared into ones and zeros.
