It was a cold night, as usual in the middle of Arstrotzkan winter. The streets of Moscolt were littered with snow and everyone was wearing heavy clothing to keep just the slightest semblance of a warm feeling. The worst part was that we were hardly half way there. We still had a long way to go before we would see the snow melt. A part of me wondered what it would have been like if Arstrotzkans had the magical ability to control the weather like the magical races, but I figured we were doing fine enough.

I had just got back from a long day of work, which was standard before the Holidays would begin. Hearth's Warming Eve, one of the many Equestrian celebrations that transcended to a worldwide phenomenon, was coming close. Decorations were everywhere and buildings for once were blasting carols rather than patriotic proletarian music. Of course being Arstrotzka, we personally treated it as a story of overcoming racism for it was quite a feat for the Tromance Unicorns, Trottingham Earth People and Hayzantine Pegasai to come together to form an utterly new nation amid magical threats and mutual hatred.

That said, the Equestria aspect of it was played down.

Regardless, that didn't mean I couldn't get into the mood. I had one final task to complete for the night before my holidays could officially begin.

Three years had passed since I visited Cadance in Equestria on that winter night where we made our love for each other official. The scene was that of a typical Arstrotzkan bar, albeit with all the Germane writings and characters given its nature. The Germane immigrants who were here distinguished themselves with their multi colored hair or wings.

Some of the Germanes and Arstrotzkans looked at me with confused expressions, while some of the Germanes appeared hostile.

I pretended not to make much of it and continued inside, overhearing the conversations playing before me.

"Ist er es?"

"Ja es ist er...Kommissar Lev Ulyanov."

"Er is mit Prinzessin Cadance?"

"Ja."

I sat down the bar and ordered a Smarenoff Ice which came quick in a bottle. The bartender seemed to be confused like a few others were, striking him off the list of suspicion.

I took a few sips and sat my bottle down as I heard people come towards me. "You know? I hate it when one Arstrotzkan thinks their dialect is superior to others and that they deserve to act like a privileged snob over it."

Just then, I heard and felt a figure behind me leap in my direction with a bit of a grizzly voice.

I instantly turned around and kneed my assailant in the gut, just as he was within an inch of me. He stumbled back and when he drew forward, I pulled out the pistol that had been given to me and fired 3 shots in his direction which surely killed him instantly.

Another attacker charged me with a pool cue which I grabbed and yanked in my direction. The pseudo spear man was knocked off balance, giving me time to kick him down and stab the pool cue down his chest.

A third charger rushed at me from behind with his wings flailing about, but I managed to reach behind me with me free arm and threw him into the bar, his body pierced by dozens of alcohol bottles. I figured the government would pay for that in my place.

Two more came in both directions. I managed to pull one on the right into a choke hold and used my gun carrying arm to elbow the one to my left back a few feet. The latter was promptly shot in the head as I immediately leveled my pistol to his face. The one in the choke hold struggled to break free, but firm squeezed from my army promptly broke his neck.

I heard a bunch of foot steps behind me, so I turned around and brandished my gun at a guy who promptly shot his hands up and started blabbering about like an innocent.

"Don't shoot! I'm Arstrotzkan like you!" he begged.

I raised an eyebrow, as he clearly was trying to charge me a second ago. I decided to test him out.

"A gay Arstrotzkan man calls a Germane bisexual a queer in vain without knowing of the latter's sexual orientation. Has he committed hate speech in the name of the motherland?" I quizzed.

The man dropped his jaw and his eyes darted from side to side.

"I knew you weren't a comrade." I gritted.

He proceeded to confirm my suspicions with an inhuman screech as he blazed at me, but was quickly gunned down by 3 bullets to the head. Each shot, as with all other wounds afflicted by my assailants, caused a greenish blood to splatter about.

All figures who were downed immediately transformed as a bright light encompassed their bodies, revealing not Arstrotzkans and Germanes, but rather males with dusk colored skin and a penchant for black body suits. Corpses who had their eyes opened revealed bug like characteristics.

"Have to hand it to the Changelings, they know how to take even us by surprise." I muttered.

The bodies soon vanished where a sickly green essence materialized from where their corpses laid. They vanished into thin air, probably returning to the lake of evil the Changelings spawned from so that they would be reborn. Changelings were abnormally easy to defeat with their Queen, to the point where a child with a knife was a bigger threat, but their reincarnations were a haste to deal with.

What didn't vanish was the green blood everywhere, especially the stuff still on my jacket.

"I gotta wash don't I?" I muttered, with every human in the bar nodding in agreement as their disgusted expressions focused on destruction around the bar.

"Filthy filthy filthy..." I whispered to myself in the shower, furiously scrubbing my body with soap as I tried to wash away the smell. The warmth of a good shower was a welcome feeling after my outing in the cold weather. Water drizzled down my body, every droplet making sure it could feel every possible inch of me before it flowed down the drain.

As I quickly, but carefully rubbed bubbly soap over my top, I could hear my phone ring on the counter just right outside my shower. I quickly rinsed my soapy hand, opened the shower door and dried it on a towel before answering it.

"With you? Nah," I replied. "I'll never get over the sight of you..."

"Pretty much." I nodded.

"I get the feeling this might not be the last time you'll see them?" remarked Cadance.

"Nah, your hero of the people managed to take them down." I bragged.

"Riiight," giggled Cadance. "Taking Changelings out huh? Do you want an award for making a peanut butter sandwich next?"

"Oh come on," I defended. "They almost got their claws on me."

"Well that's embarrassing for a Commissar." teased Cadance.

"Hey, all that matters is that I defeated them and that I learned from the best when handling myself." I replied.

"I can't disagree with that," bragged Cadance. "Have to admit, you're doing better by yourself when something goes down."

"And you're taking the news of Changelings much better." I noted.

"Yeah, I guess they're not too hard to repel after all, even if I am their favorite snack." joked Cadance.

"Well, after this encounter, I think it's clear that they'll start reconsidering going near us," I said. "So what entity did you face this week?"

"Oh nothing much," yawned Cadance, as if that reaction couldn't have been any more appropriate. "Just some couple Diamond Dog bandits that were trying to steal some Hearth's Warming Eve presents. A few apprehensions and some cliche lectures on Hearth's Warming Eve being about friendship and not material possessions later, and they stood down."

"I'm guessing those detentions weren't too hard were they?" I guessed.
