Chapter 1: 1. final goodbyes.

1. final goodbyes.

A single mare stood at the edge of the hospital bed, her usually vibrant coat a pale shade, the fur under her eyes matted and damp from the silent tears rolling down her face. The mare's eyes scanned the bed, her eyes finally resting apon the limp hoof laying on the pristine white sheets. her own hooves shaking, she rested one apon the cherry blossom pink hoof. she shook, the tears rolling down her face, as the mare laying in the bed fought to take in enough air, a harsh rasp coming out of her mouth instead of her usual silly giggle. fluttershy gazed at the pale pink party pony, shaking, visibly fighting the inevitable breakdown of tears and screams. 'another one? how could i lose another one like this? how could i lose... how could i lose her?' fluttershy reached forward and ran a hoof through her marefriend's mane, gently pushing it from her delicate pale face.

"f-f-fluttershy..."

The yellow mare gasped and moved closer to her marefriend, practically getting onto the bed, desperately trying to get closer to pinkie's weak voice. "pinkie? its going to be o-okay, i-im sure.. im sure the doctors can do s-something.." fluttershy tried to reassure pinkie, but truth be told, she was more reassuring herself then her frail marefriend. taking in another sharp breath, she took in all the features of pinkie, that she had tried to ignore for so long.

Pinkies usually bright pink candyfloss fur had become thin and pale pink, and large portions were gone altogether. Pinkie's normally poofy untameable rose mane had gone dead straight, and once again, large amounts of it appeared to be missing. Stitches crisscrossed across the pink party mares body, across her neck, her chest, her hooves, her rump. there were even small stitches across her face. Although that seems bad in itself, that wasnt the worst part. the three balloons that belonged on the mares flank, were barely visable through the large rips in her skin, and they were hardly even there.

"f-fluttershy.... p-please sm-smile... i w-want to s-see your s-smile before i..." pinkie stuttered out the words, trying to force them from her throat with what little air she could get into her lungs. As she reached the end though, she was cut off by a pleading and panicked fluttershy.

"your going to be fine, dont you dare say you arent! m-maybe the doctors have some medicine! maybe twilight can cast a spell... or zecora can help? y-your going to be fine..!" she burst into tears, her face pressed into the sheets, her soft pink mane falling into a gentle river around her. Pinkie rested a frail, shaking hoof apon her marefriends head, and stroked her mane, stroking it for a while. A few minutes later, the pegasus lifted her head, sniffling and wiping the tears away from her tear-stained face.

"d-dont l-leave...Pinkie p-please.... Dont l-leave me alone......" the yellow mare struggled to get the choked words out, her blue eyes watering.

"d-dont be silly, flutters... y-you will see me again..s-someday.... h-hey f-flutters?" the earth pony looked towards the sniffling pegasus, her crystal blue eyes looking into ones of the same shade, and although the earth mare's were troubled by illness and weakness from her injuries, they hadnt lost their spark.

"yes.. P-Pinkie..?" the mare moved closer to her dying marefriend, so close that they could feel each others breath on their faces.

"i.. i-i love you.. flutters.." the earth mare lifted her head off of the pillow, giving her crying pegasus one last kiss, before falling back into the pillow, limp. a final goodbye.
