Sunset: Siren of the Equine River
Chapter 32: Finale's Beginning
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAuthor's Notes:
I would like to take a moment to thank everyone so far for reading this story. I'm pretty sure some of you are a bit surprised by all the drama that happened in the last three chapters. Well...if you look back you'll understand it. I don't want to spoil anything or whatever but later on, I'll be posting a blog on why stuff went down the way it did. But after this story is done.
Everything was falling to shit.
There's no need to explain how.
It just was.

There was no one to trust. No one. Not Twilight, or Celestia, or the Main 5. Everyone had begun to isolate themselves and show sides of them that no one knew existed. Sunset looked down at her hand. It was bandaged and still bleed from the cut she received. How could Twilight have done this to her and deny it in front of her face? Why would she even do that? Sunset loved her. She would have protected her from anything that would harm her and cherish her to the end of her days...
She just couldn't believe it.
And to hear from her that Celestia is the reason she was weak. That some kind of poison was put into the jewel so the ruler could remove it...Likely story. For all she knew Twilight could be lying but she could be telling the truth. To think that all the warm things she's said to her, the "I love you's" and "You're the one for me" could be all lies hurt more than anything in the world.
Those innocent violet eyes and enchanting smile were all fake...Sunset couldn't take this anymore. This was all a trap that she fell victim to. Celestia and Twilight had always been working against her. And she felt a fool for falling for it all.
The Sirens were bound to try to take the jewel from her and if Twilight and Celestia were working with them, they were sure to know that Sunset only had a fragment. Not a necklace. She was sure to die if she lost this last battle. Sunset had seen the Main 5. They were uptight and untrusting. They must've known something. But just kept it from her.
Avoiding everyone was almost impossible, but she had to do it. As the days went by, she felt herself getting weaker and weaker. But she kept pushing herself to become stronger and stronger. She must embrace this power of hers. She must.
Or she'd die trying.

Adagio cringed painfully as she felt her skin peel and crumble. She hadn't seen her sisters in a week and she knew they were falling apart. She had to finish this quickly. She knew in only a matter of days she'd be dead. Sunset must go down. Now or never. And Adagio chose now. Swiftly, the girl went to the mirror in the bathroom of her motel room. There, she saw a gaping hole in her cheek and frowned. She needed to cover that up before she did anything else.
Her habit of scratching her cheek had come to bite her. Adagio could see her teeth from inside the open wound. The Siren sighed and pulled up her shirt. She dug her fingernails into her side and slowly skin began to rip off. She watched the tissue tear and the blood flow from it. It didn't matter to her. The skin was going to deteriorate anyway so nothing was a surprise. With one hard yank, the skin ripped from her side and lay in her hand, a bloody mess.
Blood was on the floor and running down her arm. But it didn't bother her. The jewel was her life source, not this useless red liquid that slowly ran down from the gash and stained her skirt. Adagio ran water over the bit of skin she just removed and washed it off. The flesh was untouched by the deteriorating and crumbling fate as her face and wrists were. It was going to be her temporary fix for this mess.
Taking adhesive glue, she applied it to the underside of the piece and then placed it carefully on her face where the hole was. Once it was on, she made sure to make the ends flatten against her face to look as natural as possible. Then, she set to putting on makeup. Covering up everything in foundation and blush. Once she was done, you couldn't tell that one side of her face wasn't right. She smiled.
She looked just like the girl.
Just like her.
Changing into the duplicate clothing of the girl she was impersonating, she said to herself in the mirror," Good morning, new me. We have lots to do today, don't you think?"
Her imitation was perfect. The right tone and pitch. Adagio glanced at the bed and lifted the mattress. Underneath it was her weapon of choice. She cleaned it off with a paper towel and grinned. She walked to the door and opened it. Hiding the weapon under the coat she had, she walked out the motel. It was time she faced Sunset and got rid of her.
But the timing had to be just right. At night when the sky was dark and the moon loomed over them mysteriously. That was when the jewel's power would be strongest. That's when it'll be the best time to attack her. Surely the magnificent amount of power will destroy the girl and it'll be an easy grab, this necklace.
It was getting dark and all she needed to do was wait...
