Sunset: Siren of the Equine River
Chapter 26: Adagio v.2.0...that's her, right?
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAdagio stood in the mirror and frowned. She got the hair right, but the makeup... Sitting down in the chair before her she set to work on choosing the right shades and tints. It had to be just right...
Adagio was in the bathroom at a store in Canterlot making her face up. She stared at herself as she applied the makeup. Her eyelashes were not thick enough. Her lips were not the right color. The eye color was not correct. She sighed and got some lipstick and mascara. The contacts will have to wait. Glancing down at the photo, she smirked. It was to be a wonderful surprise for her favorite trio. And it was sure to make things teeter out of control.
She looked at the girl's shining eyes and happy smile in the photo. They were sure to vanish once she placed her righteous hand of sweet evil onto the table and dealt a hand that surely would win her all the gold. In this case, the necklace. Studying the reflection in the mirror, Adagio felt satisfied. She looked close enough. Now all she needed was the right clothes and then some contacts...
She walked out the bathroom and left the store to go to the mall. She peered around for the right shirt and skirt. But they weren't there. The clothes that were available weren't anything as specific as hers. Adagio just grabbed some of them and tried them on. None of them made her look any closer to the girl she needed to look like. Adagio was wearing a sweater and some jeans and scowled as she looked around the mall for hours.
She was about to give up when she heard someone yell out.
"Hey!"
She turned around and saw Rarity standing there waving. The Siren stood frowning and stayed where she was. Rarity tilted her head and walked up to her.
"Something wrong, darling?"
"Ugh. You," Adagio muttered.
Rarity's eyes widened.
"Huh?"
"I mean...hi."
The girl smiled at her and nodded to her clothes.
"My! You seem to have gotten yourself a new line of clothing to wear. I've never seen you wear casual before."
Adagio looked away. She felt sick standing next to this girl. Her happy smile and bright eyes were things she hated most about good people. They smiled and looked friendly all the time. Like they never had a bad day in their life! Not once does she ever see a goody two shoes trudging around looking sorry for themselves. The only person who she's seen do that was Sunset, but she didn't count because she once was evil just like her.
"I...just needed to get a new shirt and skirt. You know, since I'm always wearing the same one. Every day."
Rarity frowned and leaned forward.
"Darling, are you sick? You don't sound like yourself."
She squinted and looked at her directly.
"And your eyes..."
Adagio backed up defensively and hissed.
"Personal space!"
Rarity studied the girl. Something was off with her. She noticed, with her eye for detail, that the girl was wearing mascara and lipstick. Her face was a dry looking, like she had no natural shine to it from oil in her skin....
"Wait a minute..." Rarity mumbled and stared at her.
Adagio gulped silently and stood away from her in fear. She was found out wasn't she. Surely her friends would know the real her and more likely, her beloved. Rarity was taking her sweet time observing her and examining every inch of her to see. Adagio was going to bail in a minute.
"You're..." Rarity started to say and pointed at her.
Adagio stood frozen and set her stance into a running position. She was going to blow this joint.
"You're," Rarity began again," Going out on a special date tonight, aren't you!"
This completely blew her mind. What?! A date?! Rarity was jumping up and down now, squealing.
"Oh! You two are the most adorable couple! You're looking for a dress to wear, aren't you, darling!"
Rarity grabbed her hand and pulled her along.
"You and I are going to the Carousel Beautique right now! I know just the dress in mind!"
The two of them made it into the shop and went into the back. There, Adagio saw, was three full length mirrors angled in a semi circle along a platform. Lights loomed over it, making the reflection of the glass mirrors blinding. Beside this were rows and rows of dresses on hangers along the bar they hung from.
The clothes were stunningly beautiful and Adagio couldn't help but stare at the wonderful things. Rarity pushed her up onto the stumpy platform and got out a measuring tape. She stretched it all around measured every part of her body. Adagio was left to the mercy of Rarity and was tugged and pulled at to be measured with her long tape.
"You seem to have gotten a bit...chesty, if I do say so..." Rarity told her rather embarrassingly.
Adagio blushed for no apparent reason and looked away. Being told that was not at all what she would have expected her to say. Are these people so forward with telling each other odd things like this all the time? If so, she was glad she wasn't friends with any of them.
"And your hips have gotten wider from the last time I had to measure you. This is interesting...not to mention you seemed to have gained a little weight," Rarity mumbled.
She sighed and looked at her, oblivious to the furious blush on her face.
"The dresses I had in mind for you won't be able to fit now. And they were excellent for you, too."
Adagio felt so angry and embarrassed by these comments of hers that she was about to scream when something came into her mind.
"Hey, could you make me another set of clothes?"
She handed her the photo she had and Rarity blinked.
"Darling, these are your exact clothes you wear everyday. Didn't you say--"
"I just want another pair so the other doesn't get worn out is all," Adagio said in her nicest tone. She pretended to cough and Rarity looked sympathetic.
"I'll start on it right away."
She nodded and attempted to smile back at her as she hurried out of there. Finally, she got one thing done. The next task is yet to be accomplished.
