6. The Lonely Dragon

Days like this happen once in a year if you’re lucky. You’ll get everything you want and anything you need. Everything goes your way. But for me, it happens only once a half-decade if I’m lucky. And my problem is I don’t know it’s one of those days until it’s nearly finished. A missed opportunity.

The other 364 days (or in my case, 1824 days) are all similar in one way or another. You’ll make the same mistake twice. You’ll repeat something. You’ll replay a game. You’ll tell the same story. And you’ll repeat yourself.

In my current situation, it’s one of those days.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

We stood, staring. Waiting for one to blink. A staring contest to decide who goes first. My eyelid wobbles. He smirks. My other eye waters. He laughs… He blinks. He face-palmed.

‘Fine…’ he sighed, ‘I’m here for Rarity.’ I tilt my head, confused.

‘The pony that lives here… The marshmallow coloured pony.’ I acknowledge who he is talking about with a nod.

‘She said she needed my help at lunch but she’s not around so I guess I’ll go.’

He shuffled off, upset and depressed. Don’t put this down to making him feel better, I did it for a selfish reason (to make at least one friend while I was here), but I walked outside and closed the door behind me. I jogged my way to the dragon I could see walking through town. By the time I’d closed the gap, he was standing outside a strange tree with a door, sighing. Being an animal, I did what I thought would be best. I nuzzled at his legs and was basically being really affectionate.

‘Oh, hi again’ he groaned, ‘did you follow me?’ I nodded.

‘Okay. What do you want?’ I just pawed at him.

‘No. I just want to be left alone…’ He slammed the door behind him. I wonder what could make him feel better. It was late so I wouldn’t be able to find many ponies.

I turned to see a letter that had fallen out of the Dragon’s letter box. There were muffin crumbs on it. ‘Twilight’ it read. Seemed like a girly name for a dragon. The envelope was open. I decided to take a peek. Something told me it was wrong but what have did I do today that was right?

Twilight.

If you read this before I see you, come and find me at Sweet Apple Acres. My sis and her friends are begging for your help on something. She don’t want to tell me what it’s about. I’m sure you’ll know what to do.

Your pal, AJ.

I looked around. ‘Sweet Apple Acres’ was on a near-by sign post. ‘AJ’ seemed really rushed; the writing was slightly hard to read and the grammar was slightly bad. I guessed I’d see what was wrong.
