Chapter 25: Signature jacket
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSunset and Twilight woke up the next morning on the downstairs couch. Sunset was lying on the cushions with her head propped up by a pillow, her arms around Twilight. Twilight's forehead was pressed against Sunset's neck and the other girl's hand rested gently on her head like a mother holding a baby. She had curled up beside Sunset, who protectively held her close.
They sprang up in surprise and embarrassment. Sunset fell back on the floor hard and Twilight stood up on the couch blushing red. They remembered the night before but how they got on the couch was a mystery. Sunset was red in the face as she lied on the floor. She jumped up suddenly and fell back on the floor on her butt. The whole house practically shook. Sunset had gotten up too fast and had gotten dizzy.
"I-I-I don't know what happened!" Twilight stuttered in embarrassment.
She bit her lip and took a step back and stumbled. She fell back on the dog. Rascal yelped. He barked and startled both the girls. Sunset screamed and scrambled backward, ramming her shoulder into the coffee table.
"OW!!!!"
She lifted her head only to get hit on the underside of the table. Twilight, still scared of Rascal got up and ran away. Rascal woofed in excitement and chased her. The princess shot through the kitchen and crashed into the counter. Despite the pain, she clambered onto the thing and tried to stay away from the dog.
Sunset came in and grabbed the golden retriever's collar. "No, boy! Stop!"
But the dog kept barking and pawing at Twilight on the counter. Sunset jerked his collar and Rascal turned and jumped up on Sunset. Sunset crashed on the floor and Twilight zipped on out of there in a hurry. She sped upstairs and Rascal followed. Twilight threw things at him, like books and pillows at it as she ran away into the bedroom.
Sunset came stomping up the stairs pissed at her canine. She dashed to where his barking came from but stubbed her toe on a random book that lay in the middle of the hall.
"Ah, hell!" she cried.
She gritted her teeth and hobbled into the bedroom. It was a mess. The Twilight took shelter in the bed and was whimpering. Rascal was running all around the bed. Sunset was immediately in termination mode. She never allowed Rascal in her room. She jumped up on the bed and snagged her dog's tail.
"You better get your butt out of here!"
Rascal, however, wriggled free and continued to run around. Sunset tirelessly chased him around with bloodthirsty eyes. And when Sunset looks bloodthirsty, you know she needs her medication. Somehow the dog disappeared. The angry girl waited on the bed searching for him. And suddenly, he burst out from under the bed with something in his mouth. And Sunset knew instantly what it was.
It was her signature leather jacket.
Hell just broke loose.
She practically teleported after that dog. In seconds she had him by the neck and ripped it out of his jaws. Her jacket was ripped up and scratched. Marks of where the dog bit into the fabric were everywhere. The smooth black leather was split and ruined. Sunset was in so much shock and anger that she was about to kill Rascal.
The dog whimpered and attempted to run away, but Sunset had a firm grip. Sunset looked down at him with murder in her eyes and raised a fist.
"You're so dead!"
Her arm swooped down so fast, it looked as if it could cut metal.
"Sunset Shimmer!" Twilight yelled.
The girl stopped in mid-motion and looked up at the stairs. The girl was standing there watching in disapproval. She kept her distance, however.
"Don't hit him."
Sunset opened her mouth to argue but no words came out. She looked at her, the dog, and the leather jacket. In frustration, she shook the jacket at her as if verifying her reason to wound the canine. Twilight shook her head. In aggravation she let Rascal go and he bolted through the doggy door outside.
She groaned and slammed the ruined jacket on the floor.
"Go take your medication," Twilight told her.
Sunset stared at her in disbelief. Had she not seen what the dog did to her signature jacket? He ripped it to pieces. And yet she was more worried about medication than her belongings.
"Now," Twilight ordered.
Sunset gritted her teeth and kicked at the clothing item. She stomped into the kitchen and got her pills. Slamming cabinets and banging the bottle down on the counter; you would've thought she was a toddler having a temper tantrum. In a way, she was. Twilight came into the kitchen with the destroyed outer layer jacket and kept her distance as Sunset took her medication. It was weird how she took pills without water.
Sunset grimaced at the terrible taste of the medication and felt the anger leave her almost instantly. The medicine was working to numb her feelings and it worked well. Sunset turned to Twilight with an apologetic expression. Twilight held up a hand.
"No need to say sorry. I know."
Sunset sighed. She glanced at the item in her friend's hand. She groaned.
"Now how am I going to get a new one?"
Twilight placed the jacket on the counter. " You buy a new one."
The frustrated girl shook her head. " I can't. That jacket came magically with me when I first came here through the portal. I know. I looked in all the stores. That was a one of a kind leather jacket. And going to a tailor is too expensive, especially with all the damage."
She slapped a hand on the counter. "Man, I loved that thing!"
Twilight bit her lip. She never really had this problem. Back in Equestria, she didn't have to wear clothes. And when she did, it was for big events, like the Galloping Gala. If her dress ever got a tear in it, she would go to Rarity and she'd fix it no problem. But it was different here. Because the Main 5 and Sunset Shimmer were not friendly and that the jacket was iconic and very obvious who it belonged to, Twilight couldn't just bring the jacket to Rarity to fix.
The only thing they could do was buy one that looked similar to the jacket Sunset Shimmer loved.
Sunset knew exactly what Twilight was thinking. (Ahem! Majored in psychology in her student days in Equestria...)
"I don't want to buy another one," she said flatly.
Twilight frowned. "You're going to have to."
Crossing her arms defiantly she shook her head. "No."
Twilight mimicked her movement. "Yes."
They stared at each other. But Sunset couldn't help but look away. Twilight smiled.
"New jacket it is."
"Damn it," Sunset muttered.

An hour later, the two were at the mall looking around. Sunset was wearing a dark blue hoodie with the hood over her head sulking. She looked like an emo teen. Twilight was looking around enthusiastically pointing to clothing stores and dragging the grumpy girl around.
"I don't want to look for a new jacket..." she muttered.
"Remember what I told you last night? Don't be depressed," Twilight told her.
Sunset rolled her eyes but at the same time felt her heart leap. It was wonderful at that time to hear those words spoken to her. Twilight pulled her into a store called Fashion4Lyfe.
"Look around. You'll be more useful than if you mope around," she said.
Sunset grudgingly looked around. She saw leather jackets, but they weren't right. One was too small, one had too many studs on it, another had bunches of tassels everywhere, and the other was sequined out.
None of them were her style.
She groaned. This was dumb.
For the next two hours, they scavenged the whole mall in search of a leather jacket that fit Sunset. But then again, none did. And here's a list of all the jackets she tried on:
1. Nice, but looked too young on her
2. Too biker gang-ish
3. Had a dumb logo on the back saying "I'm too cute"
4. Random white blotches on it that looked like someone splashed paint over it; they asked if it was supposed to be like that. Answer: Yes
5. Crazy metal chains
6. Had nonsensical rips in it
7. Too big
8. It was a man's jacket in the ladies' section
9. A return item
10. Smelt bad
11. Seam was ripped
12. It looked perfect, but it was sewn to a shirt that looked like garbage; Sunset wasn't bout to pay extra for a wack ass shirt.
13. Too expensive
Finally, Twilight and Sunset stood in the mall defeated. Sunset was in a worse mood than before.
"See? I told you there wouldn't be a good replacement..."
Twilight sighed and nodded. "Yeah, you're right."
Sunset's stomach grumbled and she looked in the direction of the food court. "Lets go eat."
They walked toward the café when Twilight saw a store neither of them had went into. Her hopes raised immediately. "I'll be right back."
Sunset turned in surprise as the girl sped off. "Hey, where are you going?"
"Nowhere!" Twilight called back.
The girl rolled her eyes. "Hurry back or I'll order without you!"

Twilight stood in front of the store with a smile on her face.
Carousel Beautique.
This was just like back home. This must be where Rarity works. When she stepped inside she was amazed by all the fabulous clothes there. Extravagant colors, designs, and ensembles were everywhere. Twilight slowly made her way to the cashier's counter as she looked at all the clothes. They were definitely like Rarity's designs.
"Twilight!" a delicate voice called.
The said girl turned and saw Rarity at the counter looking surprised to see her.
"Oh, Rarity! I'm glad you're here!" Twilight said.
She rushed up to her and pulled out the leather jacket Sunset had from her saddle bag.
"Rarity, I need your help. Can you fix this?"
The stylish girl blinked in disgust and shock. The clothing before her was the worst thing she ever saw with it's gnarled appearance and rips. Despite its condition, Rarity recognized it as Sunset's right away. She looked up at Twilight and then back at the hideous thing.
"...Darling, this...this, uh, thing is way beyond repair..."
"Oh, but please fix it!" Twilight urged.
Rarity cleared her throat. "B-But you can get it done at a tailor's. I'd be way to busy with school and my job here...Besides, it is pretty much finished."
She pinched the sleeve of it reluctantly and pointed at the damage.
"See? The seam's torn here, the fabric's been ripped there about a good six inches, there are holes there..."
She shrugged. "It's finished, darling."
Twilight knew what the problem was. " It's because it's Sunset's, isn't it."
When she got silence the girl shook her head.
Twilight looked at her sadly and sighed. "...I-I understand...Thanks anyway..."
She took the jacket back and turned to leave. This shocked Rarity. She had never seen Twilight be so dejected and sad before. And it was because of a jacket! Twilight really must be trying to be Sunset's best friend. Feeling very guilty, Rarity called out to her.
"Wait!"
Twilight turned around and looked at her. "Yes?"
Rarity smiled softly. "I'll fix it."
Twilight's eyes went wide with joy and she hugged her friend form over the counter. "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!"
She was smiling from ear to ear. "You don't know how much Sunset loves this jacket! This is such a great help! If there's anything you need, just let me know and I'll help out right away!"
She gave Rarity the clothing and ran out the store. "Bye!"
Rarity waved back and sighed. Looking down at the jacket she wondered what kind of relationship Twilight and Sunset had.

Sunset stuffed her mouth with a sub and glanced at the jittery girl across the table from her. "What's gotten you so happy?"
"Nothing," Twilight said too quickly.
Sunset shrugged and continued eating. "I told you I was going to order without you."
"I know."
"You aren't hungry?"
"No."
"You sure? We could share."
"I'm alright."
Sunset examined Twilight's beaming smile and blushed. She hid her face behind the sub and snorted. "Whatever you say..."
She kept eating and all the while Twilight happily sat there glad that she Rarity was there for her despite the rough spot the Main5 were in with Sunset Shimmer.
