Chapter 1

Chapter 1

It was a night like any other in Canterlot, the air was nice and breezy, the ponies of Canterlot were all snug in their beds, and a full moon shone brightly overhead. It was as peaceful as it could get, except for one little filly running down the street. Why is this little filly important you may ask, well she is no ordinary filly, this was in fact Princess Celestia of Equestria daughter of the King and Queen. She was running as fast as her little legs could take her back to the castle.

"Oh no my parents are going to kill me," Celestia said to no one except herself "I was suppose to be home hours ago."

Celestia try as she might couldn't run that distance without taking a break, and she surely couldn't use her wings, she still couldn't fly. Just as she was about to take off running again she heard crying. Finding the crying more interesting than getting home, she attempted to locate the sound. After a short time Celestia realized the sound was coming from the alley beside her. With her curiosity almost at its peak she went into the alley and was in shock at what she found. There lying on the ground was a full grown mare covered in blood, she wished to believe that she was unconscious but she knew better than that. What made her even more in shock was that there was a newborn baby foal. His coat was all black and his mane was blue. After studying the foal for a short time Celestia realized the mare who she assumed was his mother, died in childbirth. As young as Celestia was she knew that she couldn't just leave this foal here, so with as much of her tiny strength she could muster, she picked up the foal and returned to her previous activity of returning home.

After running for what seemed like forever, which was really only about 10 minutes, she made it back to the castle. She ran right past the guards who had fallen asleep on the job, "Wow great job defending Equestria" she thought to herself and she ran right to the throne room where her mother and father were waiting.

"Celestia, where have you been?" her father asked very angrily.

"I'm very sorry daddy I got a little preoccupied with some things," she attempted to reply as innocently as possible.

"That's no excuse. You knew what time to be home, I said be home by sunset."

Celestia on the verge of tears, because her father was very scary when he yelled, replied "I'm very sorry daddy. I didn't mean to make you so angry."

"I'm not angry," her father said "I'm just more upset about what you missed."

"What did I mi-" is what she was going to say, but she then realized that her mother, who had yet to speak, was holding a blanket with something inside of it.

Her mother, who finally spoke for the first time, said, "Celestia, I would like you to meet your baby sister, Luna."

Celestia almost fell down in a state of shock she couldn't believe she missed the birth of her own sister. She didn't know how she felt, of course she was happy about Luna's birth, when she first heard she was going to have a sister she couldn't stop smiling, but she was also angry at herself for missing it. Your sister's birth is a once in a lifetime event and she missed it because she had to stop and help that foal.

That's when she remembered she still had the foal with her.

At that exact moment her father spoke up and asked, "What's that thing your carrying on your back." Celestia than opened the paper bag that she had found on her way to the castle and put the foal in for safekeeping. She took out the foal and just passed it to her father.

Her father very surprised by the fact that his daughter had a baby simply asked, "Celestia, why do you have a foal?" Celestia then proceeded to tell her parents everything that had happened to her from when her father told her to be home by sunset, realizing that she was late, finding the foal and his dead mother, and then rushing home after that  to where she discovered that her sister had been born.

"We can't just leave this foal," her mother said.

"What are you going to do with him?" Celestia asked.

Her father than decreed proudly, "We will raise him ourselves. He shall live a good and prosperous life in the royal family. Now the only thing we need for him is a name."

After a short while Celestia replied, thinking she had just thought of the greatest idea ever, "How about Lunar Eclipse."

"Lunar Eclipse," her parents said simultaneously. It was perfect for him. He was born on the same day as Luna, around the same time as Luna, they even looked similar since they both of their coats and manes represented the colors of the night. They were practically the same person except Lunar was a boy and a earth pony, and Luna was a girl and a alicorn. Celestia than yawned very loudly as all the excitement that had happened today made her very tired.

Her father noticed this and told her, "Why dont you go up to your room and get some rest we can talk about more about this tomorrow."

"Of course daddy, goodnight."

Celestia than returned to her room, got into bed, and sleep quickly overtook her. Celestia's father said he would live a good and prosperous life in the royal family, if only they had known what the future had in store for him.
