Chapter 1: Prologue

Prologue

Thick dark clouds cover the sky and hides the sun from view but the light that comes though is red, dusky, and very close to the color of a dying flame showed the burnt and charred soil underneath the hooves of all ponies, there are a few burned trees; but dead not alive, making this wasteland even more depressing. Although in the distance six mountains made of six different types of crystals shone in the distance almost like a beacon of hope in this dark and empty wasteland, almost if it wasn’t the fact that in the legends of hell, this place was described as the source of it for eons before the Sisters came to power.

A stallion stood in front of his team that had been looking for this one ruin that was namely unique among all of them, an impregnable fortress surrounded by six mountains made of six distinct crystals, the capita of the Original Crystal Empire, but it was rumored that it is full of riches beyond ones wildest dreams, and who would contradict that rumor? An entire empire made up of rare crystals, expensive ones at that! Although the mountains are said to be made up of crystals that are only found in 13 objects; the elements of harmony, the tree of harmony, and lastly those six mountains, the largest deposit of harmony sensitive crystals in the entire land of Equestria.

The stallion slowly smiled then said; “We’ve finally found it! The original Crystal Empire!” he slowly walk forwards then stopped and re-adjusted his hood over his head “I can’t believe it… after searching for this place for years we find it… but how? Is it merely a mirage- a trick of the mind? Or… is it really here?” he then took a few steps back and shakes his covered head.

A normal sized mare that was watching the stallion for a while walked up and said; “A’h see it as well as ya; which m’ans it either is a’ illusion or it is real ‘n’ stood against the test o’ time” the mare slowly turned her head away from the stallion.

The team is small, made up of two mares and a single stallion, each wearing horse shoes and cloaks, their bags being light with food, water, sleeping pads, and sleeping bags, with a journal and quill- and of course ink; they came relatively prepared. The smaller Mare’s cloak puffed out a bit on the sides and rustled when she moved her wings revealing that she’s a Pegasus, the larger mare was just a normal earth pony, then the stallion’s hood was a bit longer and more up than the mare’s due to his horn.

The Pegasus then stated; “if the air here wasn’t so smoky I’d go ahead and check it out for you guys… but I can’t and I’m trapped on the ground,” turning her head away she then sighed only wanting to be back home in __(search up Pegasus town)__ she loved the freedom but she merely sighed and put those thoughts away and then said; “for better or for worse we learned the hard way that this environment is hostile without any monsters, animals, bugs, or even plants…”

The stallion just chuckled at the Pegasus’s last comment then said; “Quite so… but on the last note about the environment, the heat here is barely off of ‘HELP! I’M ON FIRE!’ kind of hot… so if any plant or animal, much less bugs survived here they’d come out at nigh…” his words starting to trail away when they saw a creature made of pure flame start to form just twenty feet in front of them; they knew what it was; the magic density in this land was too high for safety’s sake, so it created an Elemental; a being made of pure magic and an element of nature.

The earth pony knew all too well how dangerous those beings called ‘Elementals’ were in any circumstance; normally they’d be summoned or around every twenty years one would create its self; and the latter being the worst, for an Elemental being free meant chaos and death. She slowly said; “Dawn Tablet? Ah hope ya got a good spell to kill that…”

Dawn Tablet slowly shook his head and said; “Non… I never learned spells that could hurt or kill anyways…” he started to back off knowing that if he even used a tiny bit of magic it would ‘see’ him and his team then attack. Sadly fate had a different plan for them. The Elemental was staring at the sky after it formed then it suddenly moved its head to ‘look’ around, and Dawn Tablet slipped on a rock and out of instinct he used his magic to stop the fall from hurting him; in that case the Elemental saw the magic then started to charge at Dawn Tablet’s team.

The earth pony yelled out of frustration; “And you had to use a spell and grab its attention!” she started to high tail it to the nearest mountain with the Pegasus right behind her, then behind the Pegasus was Dawn Tablet secretly bucking rocks at the Elemental hoping to hit its core, but then he remembered; naturally formed elementals do not have cores and survive for a few minutes.

“Yelp…” Dawn Tablet said, “I forgot one thing about elementals; if formed naturally they are both blind and deaf as well as the fact that they will die within a few minutes.” Right when he finished his single sentence, the Elemental dissipated.

Both of the mares merely stared at Dawn Tablet when the Elemental dissipated. “Ladies; do you think I’d come here without researching up its inhabitants?” Dawn Tablet said to them not amused, “surely Angel Feather you know me better than that… right?”

The Pegasus simply stared then relied; “I forgot your little habit… and you know to call me Feather Light; NOT Angel Feather.” Right when she finished talking Dawn Tablet laughed then said with a highly amused voice; “sorry, I tend to forget that dear Feather Light; but your name is Angel Feather Light due to your wings look much like the mythical description of legendary angels.”

The earth pony just blinked then smiled; “oh that is quite amazing that a Pegasus’ wings look like an angel’s wings…” Right on that comment Feather Light just stared blankly at the earth pony then said; "You simply think that you can say that yourself Stone Ace?" right when she finished Stone Ace stared with a glare that could cut stone.

"Any hooves," Dawn Tablet said with a slight hint of annoyance on his voice, "we're wasting time here; the faster we get to the city of the six mountains the faster we can get rid of this horrible artifact." Then he thought about the voice that was in his head all those days ago ‘Who was that who spoke to me… I know it wasn’t a mare’s voice but a colt’s so it wasn’t Princess Luna…but who has the power to do that…?’
