Chapter 1: I make a promise to my friend/crush

I make a promise to my friend/crush

Casen's Journal

Entry 1

Today has to be one of the most random days of my life, if not THE most random. Right now, I'm sitting in a limo with 10 women with different-colored everything's sleeping in my living room. The oldest of said women claiming to be my godmother. I know what's going on, of course; I have to move to a new town, switch schools, and live with one of the most recognizable people in the Friendship is Magic universe. I know who these women are, of course. Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Sunset Shimmer, all hailing from Equestria. Or, at least, that's my assumption.

Oh, yeah, now to why I'm writing in a journal. I've been given this by Celestia because I needed to 'write down my feelings in here,' or something like that. Sadly, here I am, writing my feelings down in here like a freaking diary. I'm only doing this because I have nothing else to do...aside from singing and listening to music, of course. Actually, I'm listening to something right now: 100 Years to Live, by Five for Fighting. (No, I don't own it.) Eh, whatever. I think I should write down what caused all this. I guess I should start with my mother's funeral.

It was a cloudy day in the cemetery near Ording, Washington; it looked like it was about to rain. My mom grew up in Ording, and her mother, Margie, is buried their, so it's only natural that she wanted to be buried there. Ording Cemetery (that's what I call it, anyway) is a pretty place. True, it's also kinda gloomy what with all the tombstones, but there are a BUNCH of flowers. Seriously, it's like a rainbow of flora and fauna.

I hate that place.

Why do I hate it so much? I dunno, it might have something to do with the fact that MY FREAKING MOTHER IS BURIED THERE! WHAT DO YOU THINK? (I'm sorry for using the Royal Canterlot Voice; I had to release some anger. Sorry.)

Anyway, I was standing near the coffin, with a Tropicana rose in my hand. It was her favorite type of flower. I was gonna put it by her tombstone when the coffin was buried.

When I was asked to give a speech, I did it with misty eyes. It took me a while for me to finally speak. "My mom wasn't exactly the most stable woman. She broke out into fits of rage over some trivial things sometimes, kinda scaring me. And don't even get me started on her drinking problem-" The crowd kinda chuckled. "-thank you, actually! Thank you very much for laughing at my mom's death, it means a lot to me." That was sarcasm, but nonetheless, it made the crowd shut up. "But still, she was a kind, loving, and great mother, even with her problems. Which makes me wonder how anyone, crazy or not, could murder someone like that. Does anyone have any ideas why?"

"If they were a sociopath, or if they had a serious grudge against her?" suggested one of the members in the audience.

"Thanks, David," I said in a dangerous tone. "That really helped. Feel free to stop talking anytime."

"Sorry," he said sheepishly.

"I think I've said enough," I said, with a tear streaming down my cheek. I walked back to my seat.

That's the only part of the actual funeral I remember. The rest of the time, I sat there, thinking about the past. Tears were streaming down my cheeks, and I didn't care.

While I did, the people around me started getting up and leaving. I just stayed there. I kept thinking about what happened on the day she died, 7 days earlier...

I had just woken up. I rubbed my eyes in confusion. Is it morning already? I thought tiredly. What time is it?

I looked over at my digital table clock. 1:20 AM? Why am I up this early? I thought, confused.

I turned over, trying to get back to sleep, but I was wide awake. I just couldn't get back to sleep, no matter what I tried. So I just decided to sneak downstairs to play my Wii U. I was almost finished with Hyrule Warriors. All I needed was to kick Ganon's piggy ass.

But the moment I opened my bedroom door...

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

I jumped, instantly wide awake. "Mom!" I said aloud.

I ran back in my room and grabbed a Louisville Slugger. Hey, it's better than a foam sword! Anyway, I ran toward my mom's room. I burst open the door.

"Mom! What's-" I stopped right there.

Thankfully, the curtains weren't drawn, so I could see just fine. The window was wide open, wide enough for a person to fit through. But that isn't what caught my attention. It was who was on my mom, and what he was doing to her, was what made me stop.

There was a teenage boy on my mom, and he had a knife in his hand. He was stabbing her, that was clear enough. I could just make out a smile on his face, but that was all I could make out. He brandished his knife at me.

"I'll take my time with you, boy," he said. His voice was raspy. "I've been told not to kill you yet; my boss has other plans for you. However, that doesn't mean I can't harm your loved ones."

"GET AWAY FROM HER!" I shouted, and I lunged. I hit him in the arm which he held his knife with. He yelped in pain and dropped his knife. It landed on the floor, beside Mom's bed. He looked at his arm, and it appeared to be dislocated. He threw back his head and laughed like a psycho.

"You landed a good one on me, boy!" he complimented. "That actually hurt me! You've actually broken my arm, something that no-one could've managed! But don't think I'll leave you be!" He walked toward the open window, holding his arm. He put his leg on the windowsill and climbed up on top. Before he jumped out, he looked at me.

"I'm gonna have so much fun with you, boy!" he promised. "You haven't seen the last of me. Just you wait, when my arm heals, I'm gonna hunt you down, and...well, let's just say I'll make you go to sleep." And with that, he jumped out the window.

I stared at the window for a long time. He put a little emphasis on those last three words...something that only one person says before he kills his victims. Someone whom has a bunch of fangirls on the web, for some reason I can't understand to this day. Someone who carved a smile into his face...someone who killed his entire family, even his brother, who was the only one he ever cared about, as far as I know.

Jeff the Killer, I realized. But then I shook my head.

This is no time to think about stuff like that! I scolded myself. First things first: is Mom okay?

I looked over at Mom to see if she was okay...and I felt an immediate mixture of disbelief, fear, and disgust.

My mom's belly had been cut wide open. There was blood all over her bed, and the floor. Her guts were pulled from her belly, and were thrown all over the room. Their was blood everywhere. Her head was looking down at her side, and her eyes were unfocused. She was dead, murdered by that monster of a human.

"Mom..." I managed. "Mom... MOM!"

She didn't answer me.

"Mom, please," I pleaded desperately. "Please wake up!" Even though I knew that she was gone, and never coming back.

"No..." I whispered. I grabbed Mom's corpse and wrapped it up into a hug. "No...no...no..." That's when I started sobbing. I held her like that for...well, even now I can't tell how long. It seemed like forever.

Suddenly, I heard sirens outside. The police are here, I thought. Turns out someone next door called 911, even though I'm not sure how they saw the whole thing. Maybe they saw Jeff flee the scene? Yeah, that sounds reasonable. Anyway, I didn't release Mom from the hug.

I heard the door open behind me. "Put your hands up, right now!" shouted a deep male voice. Reluctantly, I let go of Mom and stood up. I put my hands up, and turned around.

Two cops were standing in the doorway; one Caucasian, and one African American. Both of them were in uniform, of course. Both of them also had their guns drawn, and they were pointing them at me.

They questioned me, and I only told them the truth, and who I believed it was. Good thing they believed me, or else I wouldn't be here, would I? Over the next three days, the police kept trying to find where Jeff went. Since I didn't see where he went, the police kept asking people around the neighborhood if they knew of his whereabouts. One person told the police that he saw someone run toward the forest on the night of the murder. The police kept sending search parties out to find that bastard. None returned alive.

Meanwhile, for me, I had to ask my crush, whose name I won't give away, if I could sleep over at her place. She questioned why, so I had to explain to her what happened. She said she was sorry about what happened, but I waved her off. I'm sorry was said too much; they didn't help me at all. Her parents weren't so lenient on letting me stay, so I had to explain the situation again. And, yes, they caved in.

Over the next few days, I've been visited by the cops, who kept filling me in on what's happened. And was the news good? Well, of course not! Why would that ever happen? Anyway, about a week later, I've been driven to the funeral by one of the cops.

I kept thinking this thought over and over, not realizing that everyone left. When I finally did, I got up, and started walking, but toward the exit; I walked toward Mom's tombstone. I knelt down, and read the tombstone.

Here lies Tammy Matthews

1975-2014

She forgot to squatch out.

Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

A smile spread across my face as I read that 'squatch' line. You see, 2 years before my mom died, we went to a McDonalds to grab a snack. I had wanted my mom to get me a double-cheeseburger, ketchup only (I'm not a big fan of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, or anything to do with vegetarianism. Well, except for bananas, potatoes, apples, pears, and peaches.), but she asked for a chicken burger. I scolded her for this, so she just turned to the order-lady, and said, "Never mind, squatch that order," on accident. I laughed about her saying that, and it was a running joke between us ever since.

I gently put down the Tropicana rose on the tombstone. A tear traced down my cheek again. I don't know what compelled me to do so, but I decided to sing one of my favorite songs: Say Something, by A Great Big World. (And no, I don't own it.)

Say something, I'm giving up on you.

I'll be the one, if you want me to.

Anywhere I would've followed you.

Say something, I'm giving up on you!

And I am feeling so small.

It was over my head...

I know nothing at all.

And I will stumble and fall.

I'm still learning to love...

Just starting to crawl.

Say something, I'm giving up on you!

I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you!

Anywhere I would've followed you...

Say something, I'm giving up on you!

And I will swallow my pride.

You're the one that I love...

...and I'm saying good-bye.

Say something, I'm giving up on you!

And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you!

And anywhere I would've followed you...

Say something, I'm giving up on you!

Say something, I'm giving up on you...

...say something...

When I finished singing, I broke down once again. "I love you, Mom," I whispered. "I don't want you to go." I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder.

"Casen," said a gentle voice. I stopped crying at once. I looked to see who it was.

Standing above me was a woman who looked to be in about her 30's. She had snow white skin, and a necklace. She wore a yellow business suit that really caught the eye. Also, her blue, green, and pink hair was billowing like a flag in a strong breeze, even though there wasn't one present. Her eyes were bright gold, and her mouth was turned upward in a smile; a smile that said, Don't worry, I'm friendly. Her eyes basically said the same thing. There was also a tattoo of the sun on the back of her right hand; the hand she was holding my shoulder with. But the most surprising thing was that I felt an aura of power from her. It's not like I can sense energy, but she pretty much radiated power like no-one's business. And I just described human Princess Celestia. Like you needed a description. Well, except for the whole Cutie-Mark-on-her-hand business, but you get the idea.

"I suppose you know who I am?" she asked me.

"Yeah," I answered truthfully. "Princess Celestia, right?"

"I prefer Principal Celestia, but you can just call me Celestia," she said kindly.

"Why are you here?" I asked her.

"I came here to pick you up, of course," she answered like it was obvious.

"Of course?" I asked her, confused.

She frowned. "How do you not-" she said, then her eyes widened in realization. "Oh, you clever woman," she said, shaking her head with a smile on her face.

"What're you talking about?" I asked her.

She looked at me with curiosity. "Tell me, Casen," she ordered. "Are you a brony?"

"What?" I asked her, surprised.

"Well, are you?" she repeated.

Usually when asked that question, I would just shake my head and say no. But looking up at Celestia, I couldn't exactly lie to her. "Yes," I admitted. "Why do you ask?"

"Now I see why she never introduced me to you," she said. "She felt that you would be too excited to see me."

"Even though I was born in 2000, and the show only came out 10 years later?" I asked.

"It was still a smart thing to do, Casen," she said.

"Tell me something, Celestia," I asked her. "Why are you here?"

"Well, to answer that, I'm gonna need to get something straight," she told me. "I'm your godmother."

"What?" I asked her, amazed. Again.

"I'm your godmother," she repeated.

"My mother chose a horse goddess from another world as my godmother?" I mused.

Celestia cracked a smile. "Well, when you put it that way, it does sound amazing, doesn't it?" she chuckled.

"Yeah, I guess it does," I replied. "So, you were saying?"

"Oh, right," she said. "As I said earlier, I'm here to pick you up. I've got a new home for you."

I saddened at that statement. "Oh," I said.

Celestia's smile drooped a little. "You don't want to move again, do you?" she asked me.

"No," I agreed. "I don't want to leave all my friends."

"I wish that it didn't have to be so, Casen," she said, and she did sound a little regretful. "But I have a school to run. Besides, it's the law," she reminded me.

"I don't want to leave though," I said with a tear streaking down my face. "At least, not without a good-bye. Can you take me back to Mossyrock, please?"

Celestia smiled. "Of course I can," she said in a motherly way. "Follow me." And she headed toward the exit. I followed her, obviously. We walked for a few minutes down the road.

"How far away did you park?" I asked her.

"The limo should be right around...ah, here it is!" she exclaimed.

"Did you just say limo?" I asked her, looking at where she was looking. And indeed, on the right side of the road stood a black, long limo. "Whoa."

Celestia smiled. "You ever been in a limo before?" she asked me. I shook my head. "Well, don't just stand there; get in!" she ordered.

"Yes, ma'am!" I whooped. She kinda laughed. I ran straight to the car, but before I could get in, she stopped me.

"Hold on, Casen!" she ordered. I stopped right there. "Before you get in, I should tell you something."

"What?"

"I brought along a couple of people."

"How many?" I asked her.

"Oh, just get in," she told me. I shrugged and opened the limo door. However, sitting inside were 9 more women, 2 of them pretty much adults, the rest about high-school age. And yes, I recognized them: Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Luna, and Cadence, all looking like humans...curiously. Twilight was reading a book (of course), Applejack and Rainbow were arguing, Pinkie was bouncing all over the place (That girl really needs to lay off the sugar, I thought), Rarity and Fluttershy were having a conversation, and Luna and Cadence were just waiting there, with their arms crossed. Those two looked impatient. They all looked up at me.

I looked at Celestia, exasperated. "A couple of people? Really?" I asked her.

"Get in," she said anxiously.

"Alright, alright," I raised my hands. "I'll get in." And I did exactly that, and Celestia followed suit. (That's how you spell it, right?)

I sat down next to Twilight. "Hi," I greeted.

"You must be Casen," said Twilight. "Hi, I'm-"

I cut her off. "There's no need to introduce yourself, Twilight," I said. "I already know who you are."

She looked surprised. "Really? How do you-" then she faltered. "Oh."

"Yeah," I said modestly. "Sorry about that."

"No, no, it's okay," she said kindly. "I don't mind Bronies so much. Though I would appreciate it if you didn't interrupt me again."

"Again, sorry," I repeated.

"Apology accepted," she said.

"You know who I am?" asked Rainbow Dash.

"Yup," I responded.

"Then what's the fastest way to a man's heart?" she asked me with a devilish grin.

"Too easy," I declared. "Chuck Norris's fist."

She cursed. "That was too easy," she scolded herself.

"Dash, it's common knowledge," I said.

"Pleased to meet ya, Casen!" exclaimed Applejack, interrupting my conversation. She grabbed my hand, but before she could shake it told her to not do it so hard.

"I know how strong you are, Applejack," I told her. "I'd much prefer it if you didn't rip my hand out of it's socket."

"Okay," she said. She shook it gently.

"Better," I said.

"I suppose you know us?" asked Cadence kindly.

"Yes, Cadence," I told her. I pointed at Sunset Shimmer. "You're Sunset Shimmer-" she beamed in recognition. I pointed at Pinkie. "-you're Pinkie Pie-"

"Hi!" she said cheerfully.

"-you're Rarity-"

"Hello, darling," greeted Rarity.

"-you're Fluttershy-"

"Um, hi," she said. Hey, now that I think about it, she actually said it audibly! Well, that's new for her!

"-I've already indicated Twilight, AJ, and RD-" They beamed in recognition.

"-and so that leaves Luna, and Cadence," I finished.

"Hello, nephew," said Luna.

"Um, I think the proper term would be god-nephew," I said. Then I stopped for a second. "Is that a thing?" I asked.

No-one answered me.

The chauffeur cleared his throat. "Where too, honey?" he asked Cadence.

"And you're Shining Armor, right?" I asked him.

"Yes, I am," he replied.

"Mossyrock, please," she replied.

"Okay," he said. He then turned on the engine, then the GPS. He punched in the words 'Mossyrock, Washington' on the screen, and a map showed up. A path showed up, going forward.

"Go straight for 3 miles," said a female voice from the monitor. We then drove off.

He turned on the radio, and set the station to 102.9; my favorite station. Well, aside from 101.5, but I digress.

"Hey, Twilight, Little Talks is on!" said Shining.

The Mane 6 brightened up at this statement, and so did I, to say the least.

"Hey, Shining, turn it up!" I called. He obliged.

Twilight looked surprised. "You like this song?" she asked me.

"Yeah," I said. "You don't mind if I sing along, do you?"

"How good are you?" she asked me.

"Pretty good, actually," I bragged.

"Prove it," she urged.

"I can't do it without anyone singing along, though," I told her.

She smiled. "Fair enough," she said. She then began to sing."I don't like walking around this old and empty house."

"So hold my hand, I'll walk with you, my dear," I sang. The girls looked at me in surprise.

However, Twilight kept singing. "The stairs creak as I sleep, it's keeping me awake."

"It's the house telling you to close your eyes," I sang again.

Twilight smiled, obviously impressed. She kept singing: And some days I can't even trust myself..."

"It's killing me to see you this way."

Then we both sang the same line: "'Cause though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore."

The girls looked impressed. "You have a good voice, Casen!" commented Celestia. "I've heard from your mother that you have a good voice, but I never knew just how good it was until now!" The other girls nodded in agreement.

"Thanks!" I said, beaming with pride. "Though Twilight is pretty good, too," I complimented. "And so are the rest of you!"

Everyone beamed, and said 'thank you'.

"You're welcome," I said. "Oh, hey, get ready!"

"Huh?" Twilight asked me. "Oh, right!" Her eyes widened. Then she cleared her throat and sang again: "There's an old voice in my head that's holding me back."

"Well, tell her that I miss our little talks," I sang. (Oh, hey, I said it! I always get excited when someone says the name of the movie, or game, or book, or song in that same movie. Or game. Or book. Or song. Moving on!)

"Soon it will be over, and buried with our past," sang Twilight.

"We used to play outside when we were young. And full of life and full of love."

"Some days, I don't know if I am wrong or right."

"You're mind is playing tricks with you, my dear."

Then we both sang together: "'Cause though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore."

And then everyone in the car, including Shining, shouted, "HEY!"

Twilight and I laughed for a second, and then sang once more:"Don't listen to a word I say." "HEY!" "The screams all sound the same." "HEY!" "'Cause though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore."

"Wow, you and Twilight could go perfectly together!" commented Rainbow Dash.

"Shut up, Rainbow," said both me and Twilight at the same time. We all laughed. "Oh, hey, the song!"

"Right!" said Twilight. Then we both sang at the same time: "You're gone, gone, gone away, I wish you'd disappear. All that's left is a ghost of you. Now we're torn, torn, torn apart, there's nothing we can do. Just let me go, we'll meet again soon."

Then we all sang at the same time: "Now wait, wait, wait for me. Please hang around; I'll see you when I fall asleep." Then all of us shouted, "HEY!" at the same time. Then me and Twilight sang once more: "Don't listen to a word I say." "HEY!" "The screams all sound the same." "HEY!" "'Cause though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore. Don't listen to a word I say." "HEY!" "The screams all sound the same." "HEY!" "'Cause though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore. 'Cause though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore. 'Cause though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore."

Everyone cheered and applauded us. I took a bow, but Twilight just beamed with pride.

"That was fantastic, Casen!" complimented Cadence.

"Incredible!" said Twilight.

"Awesome!" said Rainbow.

"Dazzling!" said Rarity.

"Beautiful!" said Celestia.

"Unbelievable!" said Applejack.

"Amazing!" said Pinkie.

"Great!" said Fluttershy. She was so impressed she actually said that audibly. Good job, Flutters. Good job.

"So compelling!" said Luna. "How did you get such a great voice?"

"I got it from my mom," I said. And then I felt sad all over again. I just had to bring that up, didn't I?

"What's wrong, sugarcube?" asked Applejack, her voice filled with concern.

"Nothing," I lied. "I'm fine."

"Are you sure?" asked Twilight. "You don't seem fine..."

Celestia put her hand on Twilight's shoulder. "He'll talk about it when he's ready."

I gave Celestia a silent thank-you. And for the rest of the ride to Mossyrock, I didn't say another word. I just looked out the window of the limo, thinking about mom again.

A few minutes later, Shining Armor announced that we arrived at Mossyrock. I gave him directions to my house, which was a ways down the road. When we got there, I got out, and asked Celestia to come with me. She obliged.

The house was painted yellow, and none of the wood was chipped. The house was in pretty good condition, actually. The driveway went around both sides of the house, going up a hill, and connected at the back. Also, the garage was connected to the house itself, and it was on the basement level. There were three doors that went inside the house itself; two of them on the top floor, each on opposite sides, and one at the basement level, the one that was always locked.

I led Celestia to the front door and went inside. Just being in here made me sad all over again.

"Do you mind if I use the restroom?" she asked me.

"First door you see in the hallway," I told her. She nodded, and walked out of the living room. I walked to the next followed her to the hallway. After all, my bedroom was in that same hall.

When I walked inside, I felt comfortable. I wanted to sit down in that comfy bean bag chair, grab my DS, and play my heart away. I wanted to grab that laptop and listen to some awesome music while I drew pictures of various pop culture characters, like Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist, Sonic the Hedgehog from...take a guess, and Twilight Sparkle from...again, guess.

My bed hasn't been made in days, but that hardly mattered. All I was here to do was pack my stuff up and leave. I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.

I grabbed my suitcase and started putting stuff inside it; clothes, books, drawings, my 3DS, et cetera. I grabbed my MP-3 player and put it in my pocket. If this new home is pretty far away, I'm gonna need it. I turned it on to see how much power it had. Good, it's full. I put the charger in my bag, though. And no, I didn't forget the headphones.

In the bathroom (which was right beside my bedroom, mind you) I heard the toilet flush. A few moments later, the door opened and out walked Celestia. "Aah, that's better," she said with a smile.

"Hey, Celestia?" I called.

"Yeah?" she called back.

"Where exactly is this 'new home'?" I asked her. "And how far away is it?"

"It's still in Washington," said Celestia. "But it's 8 hours away."

"What's the town called?" I asked.

"Viridia," she answered.

"Ah." I nodded.

"Do you have anything to keep you occupied?" she asked me.

I raised my eyebrow. "Did mom tell you anything about me, at all?"

"Well, only that you're a good singer, you're a fantastic drawer, you're a Brony-"

"If Mom already told you that I'm a Brony, why'd you have to ask at the cemetery?" I asked.

"-you like doing origami, you like reading, and you are obsessed with video games," she finished, like I haven't said anything.

"Yeah, I have a bunch of stuff to keep me occupied, actually," I answered.

"What do you have?" she asked me.

"Well, let's see." I set my suitcase down and opened it. "I have a bunch of books to read, for one. I have all the books in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Heroes of Olympus, the Kane Chronicles, Harry Potter; those books. Also, my Nintendo 3DS, and a lot of games, my MP-3 player with a ton of songs, et cetera. I always bring along my laptop on long trips, and I have some games on there, too. Also, I brought along all my clothes, duh. So, yeah, I think I'll be occupied on the long way there."

"Is that really necessary?" she asked me with a worried expression on her face. "That doesn't seem necessary."

"Yes, it is," I stated firmly.

"Alright, then," she said doubtfully. "Should we get going, then?"

I nodded.

"I'll wait for you in the limo, then," she said, and with that she turned around and walked out of the hallway.

I followed her to my door, then stopped. I looked around my room one last time. It's too bad that I had to move out of here. I really would miss this place. I became lost in sweet memories. I've slept, ate, played, laughed, and cried in this room for as long as I can remember. I remembered the first time I ever slept here, alone. I remembered the time my friends wanted to help clean up my room...

Wait.

I forgot about my good-byes!

I grabbed my suitcase and ran out of my room. I burst open the front door.

"Celestia! WAIT!" I shouted. She was about to open the door to the van. She looked over at me.

"I need to say good-bye to my friends," I said, panting, when I reached her. "I can't leave without a farewell."

She just looked at me for a while. Finally she said, "Alright. Just get it over with as soon as possible, will you?"

I smiled. "Thanks a lot!" I said, and I wrapped her up in a hug. I let go quickly, though, and cleared my throat. "Um, can you move please?" I said. "I need to get in."

"Sure," she said, and moved out of the way. I grabbed my suitcase, walked inside the limo, set my stuff down, and sat down. Celestia followed and shut the door.

"What took you so long?" asked Sunset Shimmer.

"Packing," I said. I turned to the chauffeur. "Can you take us to-um, hold on...does anyone have a paper and pencil I can borrow?"

Celestia handed me a journal and pen; the same journal I'm writing in right now, as a matter of fact! I wrote down some addresses on the first page, tore it out, and handed it to the chauffeur. "Can you take us to these addresses? I need to say good-bye to some friends."

"Sure thing," said the chauffeur. He then punched one of the addresses down on the GPS, and off we went.

Celestia looked over at everyone. "Casen, as he just said, needs to say good-bye to his friends. I doubt we're going to be back at Viridia before the day ends, so we're gonna need to stay here for the night."

Everyone nodded, obviously knowing what it's like to say good-bye to someone close to you.

And so off we went.

On the way to the houses, I never really talked with anyone the whole way there. Everytime we came to a house the chauffeur would cross another address off the list. The girls wanted to meet my friends, and I didn't want to seem rude, so I let them meet my friends. They were really surprised that 6 of them had wings, and that all of them had different colored...well, everythings. They kinda laughed at their names a little bit, which made Rainbow Dash really mad. It took me and the rest of the Mane 6 (plus Sunset) to hold her back. When I mentioned the part about me leaving, they said their good-byes with misty eyes. (Hey, look, another rhyme!)

We were heading to the last address on the list. I wanted to say farewell to my crush last, because, well...I wanted to save the best for last. (Wait...that makes it sound like I like my crush better than I liked my friends. That doesn't exactly sound nice. She's my first crush, come on!)

We got to her house. Me and the others walked out of the limo and walked onto the walkway. The house itself didn't look very impressive on the inside, and it's the same case inside. I've seen it firsthand; she invited me over to 'study'. I don't know if she had other ideas, or what. It only had 2 stories, and was about the size of a regular house.

When I got to the door, I knocked 7 times. I silently counted to ten. Then the door opened, and there stood my crush.

She was a slender figure, about 14-15 years old. She didn't have any makeup on, mostly because she didn't need any; she was pretty enough on her own. She pretty much looked like a brunette supermodel, except for her little acne problem. I didn't mind the acne. She had a bright look in her brown eyes that basically said, Hi! How's it going? Kinda like Spongebob.

"Um, hi, Casen," she greeted. "How did the funeral go?"

"Hi, Vanessa," I greeted. "It went good; no knife-swinging murderers with huge, carved smiles appeared."

She didn't chuckle at that morbid attempt at humor. "Really?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. Sheesh, tough crowd.

Cadence cleared her throat. "Um, can you introduce us, Casen?" she asked.

Vanessa looked to see who just talked, and her eyes widened. "Um..."

She looked at me. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that Vanessa was a fellow Brony. Or, in this case, Pegasister. (I honestly have no idea why girl fans prefer Brony over Pegasister. Seriously, that's one of the best names I can think of! Well, aside from Nerd-vana, that is.) So she pretty much knew who these people are.

I turned toward the other girls. "Guys, this is Vanessa Valdez. She's a fellow Brony; or, I guess, Pegasister," I introduced.

Rarity facepalmed herself. "Honestly, that is one of the dumbest names I've ever heard! I mean, come on, Brony was bad enough already, but did they really have to make up more stupid names? Seriously, listen to this-" she pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket. "-first, they basically ruin Doctor Who by calling him Doctor Whooves! I mean, come on! And there's more...let's see...brohoof. Are you freaking kidding me? That's even worse! Then they did those God-forsaken ponylicious videos on the Internet, and oh my God, when I saw my Raritylicious, I freaked! Oh, and don't even get me started on the music they make!" She ranted on for a loooong time. Finally, I interrupted her.

"Rarity, we get the point," I told her. "We're not here to listen to you rant on about stupid things Bronies say."

"What are you here for, then?" asked Vanessa.

"Maybe I can explain," said Celestia. "May we come inside?"

"Um, sure," she said, moving out of the way. Celestia thanked her and walked inside. We followed her.

We walked into the living room. Nothing special about that. I sat down on the couch, where Celestia was sitting. Twilight and Sunset Shimmer were standing behind the couch; Rarity and Fluttershy were in the kitchen, grabbing a snack (don't worry, they asked) and trying to avoid getting in the path of Rainbow Dash and Applejack, who were fighting over...something, I don't know what; and Cadence was watching Pinkie and Luna play a game of chess. (I don't know where they got the chess pieces in the first place, let alone the board, but then I remembered: Pinkie Pie is as unpredictable as Deadpool. They should be put together in a Death Battle.)

Anyway, Celestia started explaining who she was and what was going on to Vanessa. I added the details she forgot. When she got to the part where I had to move away, Vanessa shouted, "NO! HE CAN'T LEAVE!"

I kinda stared at her. She's NEVER done that before. "But Vanessa, why can't I? She's basically my only family now; you remember that I have no other siblings, right?" I reminded.

"Oh, right," she murmured, looking embarrassed. She sat back down.

"Vanessa, what's wrong?" I asked her.

A tear traced down her cheek. She put her head in her hands and cried.

"I think we should leave Vanessa alone for a minute," said Celestia. I nodded. She got up, and headed toward the door.

"Guys," I called. Everyone looked at me. "Vanessa wants to be alone for a minute." They all nodded, and headed toward the door.

I wanted to go last. I looked back at Vanessa, who was still crying. I turned back around and headed toward the door. But Vanessa stopped me.

"Wait, Casen," she called. "Can you please stay a minute?"

I was so surprised I agreed. I closed the door behind me and walked back to the couch.

After I sat down, I didn't speak for a long time, mostly because I was trying to figure out how to make her calm down. I finally decided to speak. "Vanessa, you do know that I'm not going to be living here again, right?"

She looked up at me. Her eyes were really red. "Just promise me you'll at least come to visit," she told me, her voice quivering so much I could barely understand her.

I smiled. "That I can promise," I said. "I'll try to visit you every other weekend."

"That isn't soon enough," she pouted. "How about every weekend?"

"Okay, I can't promise THAT," I pointed out.

"Alright, fine," she sobbed. "Don't come to visit."

That remark kinda ticked me off. But instead of just walking away, like I usually do (I'm not really a social person), I instead got up and walked toward her. "Look at me, Vanessa," I ordered. She looked up.

"What is it?" she asked me, kinda ticked off.

I held out my hand. "Take my hand," I ordered.

Obviously confused, she took it. I pulled her out of her chair and into my arms.

"Casen!" she said in surprise.

"I'll visit you every chance I get," I told her. "That's a promise I can never break."

"D-do you promise?" she asked me.

I pulled away from her and looked her in the eyes. "I'll do better than that; I'll Pinkie Swear," I told her, with a smile on my face.

She gave a watery sort of chuckle.

"I cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye," I declared, making the appropriate actions.

"Okay, then," she said, obviously satisfied. "All hell will break loose if you don't keep that promise, alright?"

"Okay," I said, chuckling. "Farewell for now, beauty queen."

She looked astonished. But before she could respond, I turned around and walked to the door.

But before I could open it...

"Wait," said Vanessa again.

I looked over at her, both exasperated and amused. "What is it?" I asked her irritably.

"I want to tell you something real quick," she said simply. "C'mere."

I walked over, curious. "What is it?" I asked her.

"You're not gonna leave without giving me something, right?" she asked me expectantly. "Something to remember you by?"

"Of course not," I told her. I wanted to give her something she would never, ever lose.

I started walking closer to her, and she looked up at me with wide eyes. "Casen...!" she exclaimed, but before she could say anything else, I put a finger on her lips to silence her. I then cupped her face with my hands, gently put my forehead on hers, and looked into her eyes.

"Please don't kill me for this," I whispered in her ear. Then I kissed her. On the lips. 'Cause no one would've expected that to be written down, would they?

It was soft and hesitant at first. You know, just basically two lips brushing against each other. (Ah, crap! This is starting to sound corny! Quick, just act like you don't care!) Feeling like I shouldn't have done this, I began to pull away, when she responded by kissing me back with a lot of passion, so much passion built up over the years of 'just being friends'. Did I pull away? No. Did all my fears, worries, and everything-else's dissipate at that moment? Is Pinocchio a bad motivational speaker?

Anyway, after a few minutes (or was it days? Hours? Years? Yeah, can't tell.), she and I pulled away in order to get that valuable element known as 'oxygen' into our lungs. (Stay in school, kids.) I rested my forehead on hers once more and looked into those beautiful brown eyes.

"Do you have any idea how long I wanted to do that?" I asked her.

"Do you know how long I wanted you to do that?" she replied.

I smiled. "I don't know," I answered.

"Freaking forever," she told me.

"Same here," I replied.

She gave me a wide smile. I smiled back.

"Okay, quick question," I said. "Do you know how much your parents would freak if they saw us doing this?"

"I think I can guess," she said, still smiling. "But do you care?"

"No," I admitted.

"Then neither do I," she said. I gave a little chuckle.

"Oh, wait, I'm not done," I realized. I pulled away from her and grabbed something out of my pocket. It was a gold necklace, with a purple gem that looked like Twilight's Cutie Mark. Admittedly, I'm a complete Brony; she was too, as I stated earlier. (She never wanted to be called a Pegasister. Seriously, why? But, hey, she knew I freaking loved that show, though not as much as The Legend of Zelda; or her, for that matter. So she knew that this was basically the greatest gift I could give to anyone. (And most expensive; I'm not exactly rich.) "You've wanted this for a long time, right?" I asked her.

"Yes," she said breathlessly.

"Then here." I handed it to her. She took it and examined it gingerly, as if it could break if she wasn't careful. She finally put the necklace on with misty eyes.

"One more thing," I remembered. I looked her in the eyes. I then hugged her and said to her in French, "Whatever you decide to do, where ever you decide to go, know that there's one more person to care for you, to support you. Know that, even if you make the whole world your enemy, even if you hate everything you see before you, even if you loathe me, I'll never hold you accountable. If you need a hand to hold on to, a person you trust, a person who will always support you, call me. Promise me you'll never forget these words, alright?" While I spoke, a tear traced down my cheek.

"I-I promise," she promised, her voice quivering.

"Vanessa," I said, looking at her again. She was crying tears of sorrow, but also joy. "We will meet again. Whether it be on Earth...or in the worlds beyond. Good bye for now, Vanessa Valdez."

Okay, I'll admit that was a bit overkill. But, hey, that's what I planned to do.

Anyway, as much as I didn't want to do so, I let go of her, turned around, and walked toward the door. I opened the door, but before I walked out, I looked at her one last time. She had her head in her hands, and I could hear her sobs. It took all my willpower not to walk over, put my arm over her shoulder, and comfort her in any way I could. I turned away, walked out the door, and closed it behind me.

"That was beautiful, Casen," said a voice in fluid French. I looked over to see who it was. Cadence was standing at the bottom the steps, looking at me, and she had a tear in her eye. "Did you mean it?"

"Every word," I replied as clearly as I could, still in French, which was harder than you might think. "Every...last..." I then walked up to Cadence, wrapped her up in a hug, and wept in her shoulder.

Just then, I heard the limo door open. "What is taking that boy so lo-" faltered Celestia. "What's wrong, Casen?"

"He's having a hard time with moving away," explained Cadence in English.

"Here, Casen," said Celestia in an impatient voice. "Me, Luna, Sunset Shimmer, the Mane 6, and Shining Armor have been waiting quite a while; they're very anxious to leave."

"Okay," I said, lifting my head off Cadence's shoulder. I walked toward the van and opened the door. The women were sitting there, all with their arms crossed. They all looked up at me, and I could tell they were impatient, alright.

"Well, it's about time!" exclaimed Rainbow Dash. "What kept you?"

I sat down in between her and Applejack. Celestia and Cadence entered the limo and sat near Luna and Twilight.

"I had to say good-bye to her," I said simply. They all stared at me suspiciously.

"For 30 or more minutes?" asked Sunset Shimmer.

"Yeah, pretty much," I summarized.

Everyone sighed in exasperation. "I know you have a hard time saying good-bye, Casen," said Rarity. "But next time, please don't delay. We're anxious to get home."

"Give him a rest, will you?" asked Luna. "Besides, Vanessa was the last friend, right?" She looked at me.

I nodded. "Good," said Luna. "Now, we should start getting home, right, sister?" Celestia nodded.

"I heard," said Shining before Celestia could tell him. "To Viridia!" He started driving, and this time didn't even consider turning on the GPS.

"You know the way back?" I asked him.

"Of course I do," he replied, like it were obvious.

I just shrugged. No idea why. I looked at Twilight. "How long until we get there?" I asked her.

"8 hours," she answered. She looked down at my essentials. "You are worse than Rarity," she said with a humorous smile.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" asked Rarity.

"Probably that you bring too much stuff everywhere?" I suggested.

Everyone in the car chuckled and nodded in agreement. I joined them, and I felt surprised at my sadness washing away. These people are alright, I thought. They're basically the definition of friendship; or, I guess, magic. No wonder they represent the Elements of Harmony.

I grabbed my MP-3, put on my headphones, and put on Hallelujah, by Rufus Wainwright. (Again, no, I don't own it.) I sung along quietly to it.

Cadence asked me something but I couldn't hear it over the music. I took off my headphones. "Sorry, what was that?" I asked her.

"I asked you if you needed something to do," she repeated.

"Well, kind of," I responded. I grabbed my laptop and opened it up, but before I could turn it on, Luna stopped me. "Celestia told me that you're mother told her how attached you are to video games," she informed me. "So no games on the whole way there."

I stared at her. "Luna, just how much moonshine have you been drinking on the way here?" I asked her.

"How did you know about my fondness with moonshine?!" she demanded while everyone else in the car laughed.

"Hello? I'm a Brony. Does that ring any bells?"

She groaned. "How do they always figure it out?" she asked. "Seriously, how? I mean, it's not like I ever told them about it!"

Fluttershy cleared her throat. "Um, maybe it's because of your association with the moon, Miss Luna," she suggested. Everyone laughed harder.

"Alright, that's enough," said Celestia, raising her voice so she could be heard. The laughter died down immediately. "Now, Casen," she said, looking at me. "Luna has a point. From what Tammy's told me, you play video games so much she had to limit your playtime."

"That's true," I sighed.

"However, I have an alternative." She grabbed a journal from nowhere (Where did she get that? I wondered), and handed it to me. "You can use this to draw, write stuff down, et cetera."

"Um, thanks," I said, still disappointed at the fact that I couldn't play a game the whole way to Viridia. I grabbed the journal. "Can I still listen to music?"

"Of course you can," she said kindly. "But just don't sing too much."

"Okay, just how much did Mom tell you about me?" I demanded, curious, but mostly exasperated.

"A lot," she said simply.

I rolled my eyes. "I'll just start writing," I declared.

"Good idea," replied Celestia.

Then I started writing. And that's basically my whole day so far. Jeez, my hand hurts. Okay, now I should get some sleep; I've been writing for so long. Until next time.
