Chapter 1: One: Awakening

One: Awakening

I knew the moment I saw the ground approaching...

...this was going to suck...

Rainbow Dash can only describe her "landing" with a single word.

evanescence.

Everything went blank. You would expect that, when blacking out, everything would fade into a darkness. Wrong, just an indescribable feeling of emptiness in a white spacious void.

But suddenly, she was back again. Not entirely, but she was there. Wherever there was. Her eyes fluttered open to find that her first site was herself. She was about to jump out of her skin when she realized she was standing in front of a mirror.

She breathed a sigh of relief before noticing how unnaturally pale she was. Her coat went from cerulean to a white with a spot of blue, her mane was now tinged with dark, saturated colors, and her eyes, which were the most changed, were now a darkened maroon.

"Whoa..."

Rainbow Dash spun around to face an orange mare with a long flowing violet mane. Rainbow Dash was shocked, and so was the mare. She couldn't help but feel like she knew her though.

While Rainbow Dash was pondering on it, the mare began to tear up, confusing and scaring Rainbow Dash.

"Oh! Um, am I in your house? I'm so sorry! I'll lea-"

"I-is that you Rainbow?!" The mare managed to say in between her sniffling.

"Yeah? Do you know me?" Rainbow Dash asked, intensely confused yet curious.

The mare sprinted to Rainbow, embracing her. "Rainbow it's me, Scootaloo!"

Those words bounced around in Rainbow's head, cracking every bit of her comprehension of the situation. "W-wait you're-"

She nodded and continued to cry.

"Oh, um. Why are you so old?" She asked boldly, slightly shaken by her appearance, almost as much as she was her own.

Scootaloo pulled away and stared at her, surprised, yet understanding. "Rainbow... I watched you die! It's been ten years!" She blurted out.

"What? No, stop screwing with me. Where's your friends?" Rainbow asked, slowly falling into a state of denial.

"Rainbow, how would you explain me then. I watched you crash during that show. You-" She choked back her tears once again. "You died on impact Rainbow. I was at your funeral." She managed to choke out.

Rainbow Dash plopped down on the ground, trying to wrap her mind around this new information she was processing. She glanced around, getting a sense of her surroundings. She was in a bedroom with lime green wallpaper and a navy blue shag carpet. The room was set with a double bed with a Wonderbolts bed set with a mahogany night stand to the left. Wonderbolts posters were plastered on the walls as well, obviously, being that it seemed to be Scootaloo's room.

"Um, Rainbow Dash?" Scootaloo asked.

Rainbow looked up "Yeah?"

"Why are you...?" Her voice trailed off.

"What?"

"Er, well..." She trailed off once more.

"What Scootaloo?"

"Why do you look... different?" She managed to get out.

"Honestly Scootaloo, I haven't a damn clue! You came in literally five seconds after I woke up here! Or, I think I woke up...." She explained.

Scootaloo gasped. "Do you think you're a ghost?"

Rainbow Dash face hooved. "Well, Scootaloo, considering the fact that you just informed me that I frickin' died, I think I am!" She answered sarcastically.

Scootaloo's ears folded down. "I, uh, I'm sorry Rainbow."

Rainbow Dash wrapped her hooves around her. "I'm sorry, it's just a lot to take in." She apologized.

Scootaloo just nodded as her ears perked up. "hey? You want to know what would be a good idea! Taking you to see Fluttershy! She was living Cloudsdale the last time I saw her!"

"Cloudsdale? Wait, we're not in Ponyville?" Rainbow Dash asked, shocked.

"No, we're still in Ponyville, it's just I think your closest friend should see you. After all, your death left her in pretty bad shape." Scootaloo said.

"Wait, wouldn't that be a bad idea?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"Why?" Scootaloo asked, sitting down on her bed.

"Well, she hasn't seen me in- wait, how long have I been gone?"

"Ten years."

"Thank you. Anyway, wouldn't that scare her to death? I mean, she's rather weak of heart." Rainbow Dash said, getting up and trotting to the mirror once again to stare at her new "look".

"Well, maybe I can talk to her first, to lessen the surprise?" She suggested.

"I think that would work, I think." Rainbow Dash said.

Scootaloo breathed a sigh and stood up. "Well then, let's go."

Rainbow Dash nodded and trotted over to the bedroom door. She took a deep breath and twisted the door knob. She glanced back at Scootaloo, who was a few feet behind her, then focused her gaze back on the door. She breathed out and opened it to receive the shock of her afterlife.

"R-R-R-Ra-Rainbow?!" Fluttershy stuttered.

Rainbow Dash's eyes widened in shock. "F-Fluttershy?!" She gasped.

Rainbow spun around to face Scootaloo, who was sheepishly smiling. "Scootaloo... did you forget to tell me something?" She asked, gritting her teeth.

"I may have lied to you so you wouldn't freak out immediately when I told you that I actually live with Fluttershy, eheh..." She explained, her voice shaky from embarrassment.

Rainbow Dash scoffed before turning around to look back at Fluttershy, who was tearing up. Rainbow Dash smiled and hugged her. "Hi Flutters." whispered.

Fluttershy sobbed in her arms before wrapping her own around her neck. "I- I missed you so much!" She cried.

"I know Fluttershy, I know."
