Chapter 1: Chapter 1: A Great Loss

Fluttershy lay on the branches of a tree outside her house, tears relentlessely pouring down from her lifeless eyes.

They would not stop. No matter how hard she tried, her tear ducts continued to produce gargantuan amounts of salty water. She couldn't will herself to move, to fly away from the chaotic reminder of the events that occurred just two hours before.

"I'M NOT. YOUR. FRIEND!" Fluttershy screamed, tossing her ice skates at Discord - failing to hit him by miles.

"Who cares? I can do whatever I want, whenever I want; I'm Discord! The master of chaos!" He teleported behind the pegasus, who was awkwardly trying to storm away whilst not falling over on the slippery surface of the ice - not an easy task. "You think you can boss Discord around? You think I'll change all this back, because you say so? Because if I don't, I'll lose the one friend I ever had? Well, I've got news for you, missy." Discord said, blocking Fluttershy in her path, aggressively lifting her off the ice with her front leg and bringing her face right next to his. "I don't care about any friendship anypony has to offer. I've got far more important things to occupy myself with than friends!" He paused as a devious grin crept onto his lips. "Such as...oh, I dunno...TAKING OVER EQUESTRIA!" He laughed maniacally before teleporting to Celestia knows where, leaving Fluttershy to slam face first onto the ice.

Her muzzle still ached profusely from where it had smacked into the hard, freezing surface. But the physical pain wasn't what was bothering her: it was the emotional pain.

As much as she hated to admit it, her heart was heaving with more than just guilt - though that was a large part of it. She had let her hopes get up, let herself believe that Discord could be her friend. That optimistic hope had soon turned into her own desire; she had found herself wanting to be his friend more than she had originally anticipated.

And it hurt so bad.

The tree she sat on provided shelter from the chocolate rain pouring down from the cotton candy clouds.

On any other day, in any other circumstances, she would have relished in the chocolate milk rain and scoffed the cotton candy clouds.

But not that day.

Not like this, when she knew who was behind the abnormal weather.

When she knew that it was all her fault.

Twilight and the other Elements of Harmony spotted Discord, sitting on his throne, in the center of Ponyville, wreaking havoc as usual.

"Now girls," the purple unicorn said, "we need to sneak up on him, so he doesn't get the chance to teleport away."

Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Rarity - in that order - replied.

"Ma'am yes ma'am!"

"Darn tootn'!"

"Mission impossible style. Got it!"

"Let's end this, once and for all!"

Fluttershy, however, could only nod her head, which she held low in shame.

The butter-coloured mare had her Element back on.

Oh well, she had thought, It doesn't matter if I break a promise if he's not my friend...right?

Never in her life had she broken a single promise and, though Discord had presumably spread his chaos across all of Equestria, she couldn't help but feel bad.

What's more, she had lost a potential friend. Now, she wasn't as anxious about making and loosing friends as Pinkie was, but...for a moment, it looked...it looked as if...it looked almost as if he had wanted to be her friend.

She guessed that was one of the reasons the feelings had been supposedly mutual.

There were so many ponies running about that they were concealed - for the most part - as they made their way over to the draconequus.

It wasn't that easy, however: walking through a stampede of ponies and multiple other random and inexplicable beings is not your normal everyday task.

As they neared Discord, who was now only a few meters away, a dog in a pink ballet dress danced past; Pinkie had to hold her breath in order to stifle her laughter.

Her friends let out a silent sigh of relief, but then an adorable bunny hopped in front of her with its arms crossed. The pink pony stopped in her tracks in surprise and the bunny said, in the squeakiest of voices, "I am your master. Bow down before me!"

Pinkie couldn't help it. At first she just snorted loudly, then giggled a liitle, but that soon turned into uncontrollable laughter, earning disappointed glares from her friends - save Fluttershy, who was still staring gloomily at the ground.

She only sighed, letting a few tears loose that she had been holding back for no apparent reason. .

The noise alerted the draconequus, making him turn round. Upon seeing the six ponies in a semi-circle around him, he rolled his eyes.

However, as he prepared to teleport himself elsewhere, he had an idea.

A cunning smile crept onto his lips.

So, instead of escaping, he stood in front of the six as is he hadn't even noticed them.

Twilight, unfortunately, didn't notice the smile that he had flashed, so she used her magic to ignite and unite the Elements.

Two thin strips of rainbow-coloured light wove in and out of the six, until they reached Twilight's crown. The two rainbows became one and shot up into the sky, before arching straight back down at Discord.

When they felt the magic from the Elements dissipate, they opened their eyes and looked at each other in triumph.

"We...we did it!" Twilight exclaimed, failing to notice the damage done.

All six five ponies whooped in triumph

Rainbow was the first to spot the difference. "Uhh...guys? Where's...where's Fluttersh-AHHHHH!" She screamed as she caught sight of the statue standing before them.

The other four followed her eyes, up to...

"Ahhhhh!" they all screamed in unison, Rarity fainting at the sheer sight of it.

For there, in the arms of The Lord of Chaos, was Fluttershy:

Turned to stone, just like the draconequus beside her.

Fluttershy opened her eyes again, only to find that she was somewhere quite different to where she was before.

She felt the tears that were running down her cheeks and looked up, only to see Discord's smirking face.

She recollected herself, remembering what had happened. She and her friends were just about to turn Discord to stone, when...when the draconequus snatched her up into his arms in the last second.

She had tried to push away, but she was too weak and he was too strong.

Fluttershy had her eyes closed again and she suddenly felt a hard, cold surface smashing against her for the second time that day.

The surface...cold and...hard? Like...like stone...the Elements turn Discord to stone...he had grabbed her before the rainbow hit him...it had...it had...

Sweet Celestia.

It had hit both of them. Her friends and...herself...had turned her and Discord to stone.

They were now in an almost pitch black room, with only a few flickering wall-torches to serve as light sources.

There were two beds on either side of the room. Clearly, when Discord said he was trapped in a stone prison cell, he really wasn't joking.

She decided to break the silence, which was becoming a little awkward. "Discord?" She asked, voice cracking.

"What?"

"W-why did you bring me here?"

"Isn't it obvious? While I'm in here, I can't wreak my beautiful chaos on everypony, so I decided that I could bend the rules. Being trapped in stone for an eternity wouldn't be so boring if I wasn't confined to solitude. This is meant to be a punishment, but it isn't if I continue to cause chaos upon somepony within these walls and you seemed the perfect option." He replied.

"Why?" Her eyes filled up with tears.

No answer.

"Why?" she repeated, more demanding this time.

He rolled his eyes. "Oh, just go and take a wild guess, will you?"

She immediately burst into tears, not caring what the answer actually was because she knew it would only make her more upset.

Discord grumbled. "That doesnt count as guessing, and if you're going to do that, at least be quiet about it!" He snapped his fingers, making her lips zip shut.

This action ceased her tears and she set to tackling the zip, which proved difficult with hooves.

"You know the worst part?" Discord taunted her. "You were ever so horrid to your friends today. Did you even say sorry before you...'left'? I don't think so. Maybe they'll think you wanted to come here, with me, because you're so naive it wouldn't be surprising."

Fluttershy suddenly felt a rush of fury. She could normally keep calm in difficult situations better than anypony, but Discord was poking her in the wrong places, so to speak. Finally unzipping her mouth, she retorted, "You haven't the slightest experience in friendship, which is why you still don't get it: I know my friends will forgive me, no matter what. Whereas you, you will never be forgiven! And you know why? Because you're a MONSTER!"

She gasped, covering her mouth in shock of her own words.

Even the draconequus was slightly taken aback at her suddenly harsh use of language.

As an unexpected and unwanted wave of guilt washed over the pegasus, she collapsed to the floor in uncontrollable tears.

His expression reverted back to its original one. "That's right." He whispered to himself, behind gritted teeth. "Show me your pain. You deserve it, just like the rest of them."

Ponies were still screaming, even though the chaos had stopped. Many had returned to their homes, but five mares sat around a rather abnormal statue.

The pegasus, Rainbow Dash, looked as though she was having a mental breakdown as she flew frantically about the place.

Pinkie Pie's eyes could easily rival waterfalls in the amount of water that flowed from them.

Rarity still lay unconscious on a fainting couch that Twilight had conjured up for her.

The purple unicorn herself was curled up on the floor and stroking her tail, hyperventilating and letting out choked sobs.

Applejack was the only pony who didn't look crazy. Tears were flowing from her grass-green eyes, but quietly, stunned by what stood before her.

Fluttershy and her had been very close friends; she had been like family to the earth mare. Now she was gone, most likely until long after her friends had died.

Possibly even forever.

They could not break her out of her stone prison, for they needed all six Elements to do so and Fluttershy had hers frozen around her neck.

Whats more, she now had to spend an eternity with The Lord of Chaos.

"I'm so sorry, Fluttershy. We all are."

Author's Notes:

I know, I know. some parts don't make any sense whatsoever, right?
Don't worry; they'll all be explained later, but you'll all have to stick around to let that happen!
