Rarity's New Patterns
Chapter 4: Epilogue
Previous ChapterThe bones of deceased ponies still stood in the corners, the stench of rotting meat filled the air, and the cries of a young, white filly echoed through the halls, while she herself sat in the middle of a massive pool of blood, with her hooves still wrapped around the owner of the blood. That was the horrible sight that revealed itself to the curious couple that had opened the door after passing by and hearing a crying child on their way. The news soon spread out all over Ponyville, eventually reaching the ears of Celestia herself, who personally arrived to the scene of the crime. Not even Celestia could keep a calm mind after seeing all of this for herself. Although she mourned the loss of every single soul that had perished at the scene, she secretly felt content with the fact that the murderer executed herself in the end...Not because she felt like she deserved it, but because she simply couldn't think of any way to punish her accordingly for her crimes...murder wasn't something Equestria was familiar with.
The situation was grim, to say the least. Two young fillies had lost their older sisters, another, her mentor, her idol, and somepony that she would have been proud to call a sister. Two farm ponies had lost a beloved family member, a herd of animals had lost the one that looked after them with great care, Ponyville lost it's most famous party planner, the owners of Sugar Cube Corner lost their favorite customer, the Wonderbolts lost a promising trainee, and even Celestia herself lost her most precious, beloved, promising, and prized student, leaving a whole castle without an owner, other than an owl and a baby dragon...Throughout all of Ponyville, and even several other parts of Equestria, this loss was mourned for days to come. Ponyville was in disarray, and the rulers of Equestria felt just a bit less safer, knowing that the same ponies that had helped save Equestria from a tragic fate countless times already, were no longer there to help.
The town felt like Sweetie Belle couldn't be left alone to look after the scene of the recent murders. Carousel Boutique was shut down, and Sweetie Belle was offered a home at Sweet Apple Acres. Of all the experiences they thought they'd be sharing together one day, this kind of thing was the last one the Cutie Mark Crusaders would have expected to be talking about one day...
In honor of the dead, five monuments were built in Ponyville, as a reminder of their heroic deeds there, and a new annual day was written down - the day when the magic of friendship died.
The monuments attracted many visitors. Aside from the expected ones, like Spike, Mayor Mare, Mr. and Mrs. Cake, the Apple family, Fluttershy's animals, the Wonderbolts, and the rulers of Equestria themselves, there were quite a few guests that none really expected to see. Maud Pie and a few other distant relatives of Pinkie Pie were there, as well as the distant friends of Applejack - Braeburn, a few other ponies from Appleloosa, and even a herd of buffaloes, led by Chief Thunderhooves himself. Cheese Sandwich was also there to visit the very pony that gave him the inspiration he needed to become who he was today. Out of the depths of the Everfree forest, a certain Zebra came to mourn the death of one she considered equal of her own wisdom. The same pony was also visited by a certain well known couple from the Crystal Empire...Twilight's brother - Shining Armor wept loudly while leaning on Cadence's back.
A few ponies also claimed that they had seen a certain griffon standing in the shadows between a few of the houses. It was no surprise that Gilda would visit her only childhood friend. It would also seem just like her to not be out in the public...But of all the guests, this one was only the second most peculiar one...and, by far, not the most fear-inducing one. Ponies, birds and animals alike, all made way as the very spirit of chaos and disharmony himself had arrived to place a single flower by the monument of the one that had taught him the true meaning of friendship.
Unknown to most of Equestria, a sixth monument was also built. This one was placed further away from Ponyville, far away from the place where the other monuments were built, and well hidden from the eyes of those that did not know of it's existence. For many months, this one lone monument had not received a single visitor and had gotten overgrown with moss.
On one dark and stormy night, the monument saw it's first visitor in many moons. As the pony approached it, she brushed the moss off of the plate, making the writing on it readable again.
I can protect myself from my enemies...May Celestia protect me from my friends.
Those were the words written on the monument...Truly, all it took was the right order to the wrong pony, and all of Equestria ended up being the victim...This lone monument was a better reminder than the other five put together...It reminded everypony - that a knife in the back is more dangerous than a sword coming at your chest. Together the mane 6 had overthrown many foes, most of which seemed much more powerful than they...Who would have ever thought that their fate would be sealed by one of their own.
The pouring rain covered the face of the pony near the monument. It mixed with her tears, making them invisible, and leaving only the sadness in her face visible. After taking off the hood covering her face, she placed her hoof on the monument and whispered a single word.
"Sis..."
