A Night to Remember
Chapter 1: Lady of the Night
It was 11pm when my phone started going off. I picked it up groaning and rejected the call before hearing it go off again thirty seconds later. I decided to pick it up since whoever was calling was probably going to keep up with this if I didn’t answer. “Hello?” no one answered. “Hello? Are you going to say something?” This time they responded, but told me to look out my window. I had to go to the bathroom anyway so I figured I might as well look outside my window on my way. Oddly enough, there was a girl just sitting on the sidewalk, right under the street light across from my house. She looked at me and waved her hand in a “come here” sort of motion. My brain kept telling me to go back to bed, but my gut told me to see what she wanted. I picked up a marker and some paper and wrote that I would come down In a few minutes on it, then put some better clothes on, if you consider a brown t shirt, gray track pants, and glasses to be better clothes. After taking care of some other business, I walked outside and put on my gym shoes, then proceeded to cross the street. From a distance, and without my glasses, I couldn’t tell what she had looked like. But now I was weirded out. She was wearing a long, midnight blue and black dress with dark blue gloves that went to her elbows, a necklace with a crescent moon symbol on it, and a black tiara. She wasn’t wearing any shoes for some reason. She also had some pretty freaky hair. It was outlined with a thick blue border and was darker on the inside with what looked like stars inside of it. She stood only 3 inches shorter than me and had light blue eyes. She spent a couple moments inspecting me before I asked her who she was. She giggled and walked to the entrance to the woods nearby, signaling me to follow her. “Wait!” I called out before following her. The whole time I kept thinking to myself, just go back, you have to go to work tomorrow; you don’t have time for this. But something about her kept me going deeper and deeper into the forest.
I managed to catch up to her at an area of the woods I had never been to before. It was a mix of a pond and a lake, with this huge waterfall flowing into it. The woman took my hand and tugged on it, pointing to the water. “You brought me out her to swim?” I asked. She looked at me like I was crazy and shook her head “no” before grabbing my hand again, this time making me walk to the water with her. She began to walk on the water, not into the water, but on it. Somehow I was walking on the surface of the water too. Maybe it was because of her, but how? At this point I was feeling a heavy mixture of emotions; confusion, excitement, and some fear too. I felt excited because I was walking on water, but scared because I had no idea where this girl was taking me. It started to turn into plain nervousness after a while and then just vanished after she turned around and held both my hands in between hers, as if we were getting married. She smiled, before continuing toward the waterfall. I was abut to say something before we went under it and emerged on the other side dry.
The cave was a bit chilly, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. We continued onward until we reached this huge chamber in the center of the cave. It had all these decorations such as tapestries, a couple tables, and even a few vases, along with a tunnel leading outside, outlined with gold. The arch had a symbol of a moon on one half and a sun on the other half. The woman tried to force me to follow her into the tunnel before I pulled away. She turned around shocked, and confused. “Now wait a minute.” I said. “Before I go any further, I want to know what the heck is going on.” She looked down and then back at me and sighed before shaking her head again. “Can you at least answer a couple of other questions I have? I would feel a lot more comfortable if you did.” She paused for a moment before nodding. She had a serious look on her face. “Can you tell me why you brought me here?” She shook her head. “Alright. Will anything bad happen to me? Will I get hurt in any way when we go through?” She shook her head again. I took a deep breath and asked her, “Will I be able to go home after going through to the other side?” She frowned and shook her head again after a moment of silence. She was obviously upset that I was implying that I wanted to go back. I sighed. “Can I have some time to think this over?” She looked at the symbol for a few seconds before turning back to me and nodding her head, then holding up five fingers. “I have five minutes to make a decision?” She nodded. I walked over to a rock and sat on it, thinking about what I was about to do here. If I go with her, I may never see my home again, but it’s not like I have any friends here that care about me anyway. Maybe I should go back, but I don’t want to hurt this girl’s feelings. What if she is giving me a chance at a better life?
While I was lost in thought she grabbed my shoulder and shook me a little. Damn, that was the fastest five minutes of my life, I thought. I looked at the ground, then at the way we came from, then back at the girl. I stood up, held out my and said, “Lead the way.” She smiled and took my hand, leading me down the tunnel. The farther we went, the lighter I felt, as if I was just losing all the negative energy I had in me as we traveled Soon enough though, my head started to feel light and I felt sleepy. The symptoms got even worse as we started to get closer to the outside, and my head was starting to hurt like I was being hit with a brick multiple times. When we came out, I felt like my head was going to explode. I started to loose my balance, everything was turning blurry. I fell into her arms and saw her smiling and as she pet my head I heard her sing something in the most soothing voice before I whited out.
