NOTES- You might enjoy this piece more by looking through these first → http://fav.me/d49snjg (Placid Quill), http://fav.me/d4d8u4f (LemonCherry), http://fav.me/d4dplia (both). Placid Quill’s eyes change color from a green in summer to blue in winter, I forget what that’s called but it’s what I have so my sona does as well *shrugs*. Enough lax type, the story-

Placid Quill lightly shook his head, realizing he had fallen into a trance staring to the ground during his trek. ‘Come on Cid, ya aren’t that tired are you?’

The purple unicorn rose his head, shaking it again to move his mane from his eyes, and took in his surroundings. A lazy dirt path stretched out in front of him with no sign of ending or reaching anything, Cid had found this a confusing thing to understand whenever he travelled, all the paths he took seemed ‘never-ending’ no matter how short a trip it was to the next town. The paths that made up most of Equestria’s transportation network all had the same ‘never-ending’ feeling to them. You could walk down a path for ten minutes and find yourself in a new town, but due to whatever made the paths, or an illusion, or...something that nopony seemed to bother explaining you wouldn’t see the town until you were mere steps away from entering it. It was a fact that often instilled a sense of fear and adventure in ponies, but for those who traveled more than most it was something you got used to, instead basing your trips on the amount of time it should take to get somewhere, and not on your eyes.

Tearing his gaze from the endless expanse of ‘roadway’ before him, Cid looked to the sides of said path to try and gauge where he was on his journey. Unfortunately, all that came to the travelling pony’s bluing green eyes were sights of fields of grass and wild flowers. Despite the cooling temperatures it had yet to snow and the greenery hadn’t grown worse for wear.

“Hmm. Pretty.” he said lamely as he realized the futility of mentally catching up to where he currently was through the scenery, it all looked the same as the rest of Equestria and no noticeable landmark existed along this path to help mark how far he was along it. The realization that one was ‘lost’ might be a reason to panic along certain paths, or within certain forests, but Cid lowered his gaze back down to his hooves knowing full well that the path between Coltumbus and Buckajara was a safe one.

Uneventful and safe. At least one can stay relaxed in such a state, but Placid wouldn’t mind having something, anything to distract him from entering his mind for long.

The last few weeks spent in Coltumbus had been a great change of pace. While the unicorn had been tied to the location for less-than-agreeable reasons, an injured hind leg rarely feels like a good thing, he couldn’t help but admit he enjoyed the event overall. A week of bed-rest with a kind family that offered to take him in, the following weeks spent making sure his leg had healed well and getting to enjoy some true friendship and the joy from interaction.

Placid would be lying if he said he really needed to stay as long as he had. In all truth he could have left a few days after the first week’s rest but it had been ages since he had had somepony to talk to for more than a few minutes in a busy town-square.

The couple, Red Curtain, a small stallion with a deep red coat and an even darker mane, and Spotlight, a mare of similar size to Curtain who’s creamy yellow coat and white mane made her seem almost ghostly, had been the best friends Cid had had in years. Their friendly banter had proven itself invaluable in replenishing his cheery demeanor, which had fallen as he had when he gained his injury. After the first few days of bed-rest he had found their chats and willingness to stay by his side and simply talk amazingly helpful, though to what part of himself he couldn’t tell. It just felt... good to talk to somepony, and the couple had been more than happy to oblige in filling this need by becoming friends and talking about everything from recent politics and news around Equestria, to the smallest details about running the local entertainment or starting a story.

As the first week rolled to a close the couple had begun letting their fillies see him as well, having held them back under the excuse that-

“They’ll drive you up a wall, dear! You need your rest and having them barging in and out of here won’t help with that.”

The fillies couldn’t help but live up to their reputation, their energetic natures undeterred by the injured stallion lying in their guest bed. They unintentionally helped Cid decide he would stay longer through their barrages of questions. The healing stallion could not tell them enough about writing or travelling, after each answer given another hundred questions would fly through the air in excited tones that brought a smile to Placid’s face every time. It seemed he couldn’t talk to them enough, every thing he had ever done seemed amazing to the fillies who had never seen outside of Coltumbus before and Cid would be lying if he said he didn’t love the astounded looks he would gain from his ‘little-biggest-fans’.

He had written more stories during that time than any period in his travelling, and this fact had been digging itself deeper into his mind every time he let himself think. He left home to be a travelling writer, and here he was finding he wrote best when he had ponies to talk with at all times.

For the first time in Placid Quill’s life he wished he didn’t live life the way he did. He was lonely.

The only reason he had left at all was out of fear he would outstay his welcome, he couldn’t get himself to ask to stay seeing how much harder they had to work to feed him. They had let him work at their stage during his last week, but the few extra bits that brought in still didn’t cover his costs, though this could have just been because of his increased appetite during his healing process. Leaving had been harder than he would have ever thought, making friends who were more than simple ‘acquaintances’ for the first time since school had made him realize just how much of a loner he had become, and how much he really didn’t enjoy it.

“My kingdom for a friend.” he sighed as he raised his gaze yet again to the path before him. He found himself only mildly surprised that his mental delving had passed the time quickly enough that he was now travelling through the night air as Luna’s moon began peaking out from behind a lone cloud in the night sky. ‘Night already,’ the unicorn thought with a small smile adorning his muzzle. He might have disliked the new-found longing that dug at him whenever he had time to think, but he knew that after today’s walking he would fall asleep fast enough and a nice, quiet, dreamless sleep would do wonders for clearing his head. At least for a few hours in the morning.

Placid Quill moved over to the edge of the path and unceremoniously tossed his saddlebags onto the ground before stretching to relieve the knots that had formed in his back during the walk. Horn emitting a pale light, the bag opened and produced a well folded sleeping bag which unfurled onto the grass next to its owner. The travelling writer took another glance to the sky to try and take a wild guess as to if the local weather pegasi had planned for rain tonight. Throwing caution to the wind he decided to go without his tent tonight, leaving the other side of the bag snapped shut in favor of sleeping under the stars.

With a yawn and another quick stretch to loosen his legs, Cid opened his sleeping bag, laid down and zipped it with his magic before levitating his saddle bag over and rolling it into a makeshift pillow.

‘Yeah, I don’t see it raining with this clear night sky,’ he thought as he began rolling his eyes over the stars, occasionally rounding his gaze passed a stray cloud. He had soon lost himself in the sky and could feel his eyelids growing heavy.

Placid Quill closed his eyes and sighed as he relaxed deeper into his sleeping bag knowing sleep would come soon....except...

It didn’t.

The exhausted writer just couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, something wasn’t completely right. He began to recognize the feeling, he could feel eyes digging their way into him from... somewhere and he knew the only way to relieve this itch was to take a look.

Groaning as he opened his eyes, Placid’s horn glowed as his bag unzipped and he leaned up to take a look around. He didn’t have to look for long as the silhouette of a pony stood just outside of legreach from his bedding.

When his eyes realized he was staring at somepony and not just the darkness he couldn’t help but jump slightly, only remaining in place thanks to the lower half of his sleeping bag keeping him tied to the ground.

The figure seemed to notice as it took a small step back and said something softly that Cid couldn’t make out.

Taking a breath to calm himself Cid found he could make out what the figure was. It was a pony, a mare with a white coat and a yellow mane with pink stripes. A small saddlebag lay across her back while she sheepishly stared at the ground, having been seen and startling Cid.

“Who are you?” he managed.

“L-lemonCherry.. Sorry to sneak up on you, I just didn’t expect to run into anypony out here...” she replied, slowly bringing her eyes back to him through the darkness.

“No harm done, I’m Placid Quill..” pausing to think, he couldn’t help but ask, “but what are you doing out here?” Placid was starting to feel at ease now but he really couldn’t think of many reasons for a lone pony to be wandering about, especially with such a light saddlebag.

“I could ask you the same thing.” she shot back without missing a beat.

Cid couldn’t help but laugh at the reversal, the laugh seeming to lighten the mood before he spoke, “Well I s’pose if I’m going to ask I should have expected that, heh, well I’m a travelling writer. I wander from town to town and sell what I can from my works, or use what I see or hear as inspiration for new ones. It keeps me eating most of the time at least,” he finished with another light laugh before staring expectantly at the mare.

“Really? I’m a travelling artist!” she said slightly excited. “I just started travelling recently though, I didn’t think I’d see another traveller this soon.” As LemonCherry spoke she shivered slightly, the wind having picked up and thrown the cold air to her.

“So where are you heading?” Placid asked as he turned his gaze to her light bags.

“Nowhere in particular.” she answered, turning away as if embarrassed.

“Heh, me too. Just heading out to Buckajara... Did you come from Coltumbus too?”

“Well not originally, but yes.”

“Me too.”

A small awkward silence fell between them. At some point she turned back to stare at him and he noticed the wind toss her mane before causing her to shiver again.

“You look cold.” Cid said plainly and felt the urge to slap himself for how obvious a statement he had just said.

“Yeah, I’ve only been travelling a short while... I don’t have anything for the cold yet, I really should have planned ahead and gotten myself a sleeping bag like yours. I’ve just been sleeping out on the grass... Winter’s gonna be tough...” Lemon said with a tinge of sadness.

“Well... umm..”

“Do you mind if I sleep with you tonight?”

Placid’s face flooded with blood at the request and he found himself mentally praising Luna for her night’s veil over his blushing muzzle.

“umm...”

‘What if I just let her use it tonight? Well then I have to sleep in the cold and it could get bad enough to get sick, I don’t want to have to drag myself back to Coltumbus for more rest...I can’t just say no though! Then she has to sleep in the cold and I couldn’t risk giving somepony hypothermia because I was too shy to let them warm up...I guess that just leaves...’

“S-sure....” Cid could hardly believe the words had left him and could feel his face burning up as his blush deepened. It was suddenly looking much more comfortable out on the grass where he might be able to cool down.

“Scoot over” Lemon said as she tossed her saddlebag next to the sleeping bag and began getting in. Cid was happy to oblige, if only to hide his blush and keep from making this any more awkward for himself.

After Lemon had settled in, Placid used his magic to zip them up and pushed himself to the edge of his bag. To his relief he could feel that Lemon had done the same.

Minutes passed and the silence was beginning to give Cid the idea that she had fallen asleep. He turned his head and glanced to see that she had turned as well and was staring straight at him. Up close there was no hiding his sheepish grin to being caught, or his reddened face, so he didn’t bother trying. This close he could clearly see the mare, her pristine white coat almost glistening in the moonlight, the small freckles on her face only helping add to the picture perfect image. Yellow and pink strands of her mane lazily falling along her foreleg as she held herself up to look at him. He could clearly see her eyes now, their light blue almost ghostly as it drew him in.

“Hey.” she whispered as she lowered her eyes from him and to the bag they lay in.

“Howdy,” he whispered with a small laugh at himself.

The artist looked back up to the purple stallion, his soft green eyes held shyness. His light brown mane covering his eyes slightly. She was trapped in those gentle green eyes, making her smile softly as she felt there was no where else she’d rather be.

LemonCherry whispered lightly under her breath, “So... beautiful..” She immediately shut her mouth, hoping he hadn’t heard.

She felt her stomach becoming jumpy as she became nervous, she stared at the stallion who shared the sleeping bag with her and felt herself moving closer despite her trepidations.

As the distance began to vanish she noticed he was moving forward as well, soon the space between them had fallen away and their lips met.

White and purple coated muzzles touched gently before shifting and pushing deeper, locking the travellers together. First Cid was pushed back as Lemon took the offensive, meeting his lips with her tongue early in the kiss and finding her way inside before he could react.

The shock soon found itself replaced by the sheer pleasure of the act as Cid tasted the sweet yet tangy invader he found himself harboring. As he worked his way around her tongue, playing with it as they enjoyed a game of tag between the muscles, he fell backwards, dragging her with him.

The slight shock of the fall and new-found embrace she found herself in allowed Placid to push Lemon back from his waters and explore her mouth in the hopes of tasting more of her. The game of tag continued again and switched sides a few more times before the kiss finally broke to two panting ponies connected by a sloppy string of saliva that slowly fell to their coats.

LemonCherry lowered herself to Placid’s chest and laid down, enjoying the embrace as she rubbed her cheek into his coat.

”Thank you, Lemon.”

”For what?”

Cid shrugged despite being hampered by the sleeping bag, “For wandering this path, for being with me tonight.”

“Does it have to be just tonight? Can’t two artists travel together?”

Cid blinked. It was just like him to not see the obvious option when it was right there in front of him, “Would you join me in wandering Equestria?”

The white mare giggled in the embrace before kissing his coat and answering, “I’d love to.”

~~~~
The next morning LemonCherry woke to find she was still held in Placid’s hooves. She giggled at the dumb smile he had on his face before levitating her bag over to see what she had for a small breakfast.
Placid grumbled as he felt her stir and lifted his head just in time to knock the saddlebag as it hovered passed him, knocking out a small sleeping bag. He stared at it for a moment before any thoughts finally came to him.
”....Wait... So you had one the whole time?”
”Hehe... Yeah, but it wouldn’t have been as warm!” Lemon said sticking her tongue out to mock Cid.
”That’s sour.”
”-and that’s not funny.” she said as she held back a chuckle.
”Then why are you laughing!” Cid teased.
