Making Life
Chapter 1: Making Life Happen
Rainbow breathed in a warm breath of comforting air, the smile of bliss plastered her face. She could feel the soft, mildly heated fabric of the tangled duvet covers tugging at the sides of her wings. Her eyes were in a slight haze as she let her senses run through her brain, savoring every second she had in these precious moments.
“Hey, Dashie... I've got a question,” a voice spoke. Rainbow's heart fluttered as the sound echoed inside her head. She swung her eyes over to the stallion who’d spoken with a mischievous grin.
“What’s up?” she asked, bringing her hoof over to examine the stallion's soft fur as he nuzzled her. The great weight of the pony pushing down on top of her didn’t bother Rainbow—it was more of the warmth and softness that pleased her in the pony’s presence.
“I’ve always kinda wondered... why are you never like this when the sun comes up?” he asked, his eyes looking in the direction of the moonlit window and then back to Dash again. She could see his emerald eyes observing her with love and passion burning inside, like they were looking through her inner being.
Rainbow had a sense of playfulness strike her as she replied, “What would be the fun if I did it twenty-four seven?” she asked, her forehoof travelling to the stallions chest where she could feel his heartbeat, “I wouldn’t want to make things too awesome.”
“But I like awesome,” the stallion playfully whined, slowly lowering himself onto the mare. Rainbow pressed her muzzle against him, the soft coat of hers mixing with his.
“Hmm, well you'll just have to make sure you take every second of this then,” Dash replied. She shifted her body a little, making sure to take note of the lush mattress that comforted her. She kept her grin focused towards him. Dash loved these moments the most—the moments which felt like a predator catching prey, the most intense parts that made her heart skip as she made her move. Their lips connected, within seconds becoming one of the best experiences. Dash loved the feeling of soft lips and the sweet taste that came with them. The warm and fuzzy feeling traveled through her mouth, soothing and calming her as her adrenaline flowed. To add to the affect, The stallion kissing her back was the only one who could outperform her.
“Always the one for surprises,” the stallion remarked as their lips parted slightly to catch a breath. The smirk was now on his lips as opposed to Dash, who was still reviving herself from the event. He leaned in to nuzzle her neck, a weakness that only he knew, Dash let out a low moan in her state of pleasure as he began to speak again, “Could I ask another question?”
Rainbow rolled her eyes. “You could just say it, you know. Why would I complain if it's just us?” she asked quizzically, her head moving so the pair could lock eyes once more. She saw his head roll down towards the mattress and her concern tilted. “What exactly are you asking?”
The stallion sighed, “Baby, you know I love you, right?”
The word, that name that she would only ever let him use. Dash could instantly tell this wasn't one of his goofy questions, but she nodded to confirm. She leaned up and gave him a light kiss on the soft fur of his cheek to emphasize her answer as she saw a bright smile come to his face.
The stallion seemed to ready himself as he spoke up, “Baby... have you ever wondered... about having a foal?”
Dash was barely able to open her mouth before the stallion panicked and kept going, “There’s just so much love between us, every day, I mean, I look at you and I can see us with—”
The stallion didn’t get a chance to finish as Rainbow kissed him once more, this time making sure she left him speechless. When they parted, she spoke, “Soarin, if it’s one thing that’s never changed... it’s that you still act like a shy little school filly.” She started as Soarin blushed. “Besides, are you sure you can even handle nights like this being ruined by the screams of a foal?” she asked bopping him on the muzzle with a forehoof.
“I don’t know, Dashie,” Soarin replied, looking around, pondering. “You’ve come across challenges your whole life and matched them. Me too. Don’t you think we can do this together?”
“I don’t know,” Dash responded, trailing off a little in thought. Looking at her stallion in the eyes, she continued, “I would like to be married to the stallion I’m having foals with, or at least engaged, first.” She finished with a smirk.
“Wait, you mean we’re not engaged now?” Soarin asked, cocking his head a little back. Matching the same mischievous grin.
“Pretty sure,” she said, smiling, raising her front-left hoof. “No ring. See?”
“I’m pretty sure we’ve been engaged for around fifteen years, Dashie,” Soarin reminded her.
“Uh, what’re you talking about, Soar?” Dash responded a little bluntly. Soarin leaned down to the mare he was lying on and whispered softly into his mare’s ear.
“Remember when we were foals back in Cloudsdale?”
Dash replied with the same quiet tone, “A little bit…”
“Yeah, well, remember how we used to hang out in the schoolyard all the time and pretend we were famous Wonderbolts.”
“I remember that,” Dash responded, starting to recall a few memories.
“Yeah. We used to hang out every day when you first moved to my school from the other side of Cloudsdale. Remember?”
Rainbow looked away for a second, a few very faint memories coming back to her. It was only a blur in her mind, as it was a day she wanted to forget at the time, but for Soarin, the memory was much more clear. It was a day he wanted to treasure forever.
Flashback
The sound of laughter and joyful cries filled the air as the fillies and colts of Cloudsdale Elementary School frollicked in the backyard on a sunny Friday morning before school started. The soft cloud yard was filled with foals playing tag, hoofball, cops and robbers, and all sorts of other games.
On the west side of the playground was the Cloudsdale Castle, as the foals affectionately called it. It was the school’s jungle gym. From the very top of the north tower stood Soarin at his usual spot—a spot where he could be on the lookout always, spying out the land, seeing what his fellow schoolmates were up to. Being a shy pony with big ambitions, Soarin was usually in his own fantasy world where he was a Wonderbolt by day and a superhero by night.
“There stood Super Soarin, on top of the tallest tower of Maretropolis, protecting the city he loved,” he commentated proudly to himself.
He scanned over his “city”, looking for ponies to save. However, during the day, Maretropolis was a really boring town. There was never a gorgeous mare in distress, or a rich billionaire being held ransom. However, on this day, things were about to change for old Super Soarin.
Soarin used his super-vision, one his many powers, to zoom in on a certain rainbow-maned pegasus filly, who was playing hoofball with her friends.
Just for a few seconds, Super Soarin zoned out. He no longer was an impervious superhero. Rather, he now felt like a vulnerable stallion, entranced by a mysterious mare. He gave his head a quick shake.
“Hey! That was a foul!” shouted the filly with her squeaky voice as a young brown colt slide-tackled her.
Super Soarin felt a shiver down his spine. Her voice was like a siren’s call to a ship lost at sea. He needed to follow it.
As he looked over the side of his perch, he heard the young colt who tackled her yell back, “Nu-uh, I got the ball!”
She wasn’t only a beautiful young mare with a cute voice, she was also a vulnerable filly who could very well be in danger—the exact type of pony Super Soarin was waiting to save.
“Don’t worry, young mare,” Soarin said quietly as he scaled the side of the building—rather, slid down the slide from the top of the playscape. “Super Soarin is coming to save the day!”
Soarin had to dodge other “civilians” as he made his way over to the hoofball field. By the time he got there, the match had resumed, and the play was all the way over at the other end. The damsel in distress was no longer in need, and she had the ball now. A little upset at not being the hero he wanted to be, Super Soarin just watched as the young filly, whom he had never seen before, move her way through all of the defending ponies, scoring a goal, jumping up and down in celebration. His heart fluttered as he saw the smile on her face.
The bell rang, signifying that the school day was about to begin. Super Soarin’s shift was over, and it was time for him to become just regular Soarin—a student in Ms. Sunwing’s Year Two class.
Soarin made his way into his second floor class, sitting in his usual seat at the back, right where he liked to be. It was a place where he could be himself—a place where he could quietly learn, was rarely asked to answer questions, and was rarely spoken to.
As his final classmates filed in, Ms. Sunwing stood up to begin her lesson for the day.
“Good morning, class, and happy Friday,” she said, as she usually started every day. “Today is a little different than usual, as we are welcoming a new student to our class!”
Soarin could see all of the ponies in front of him talking to their desk-mates. A new student always caused some excitement. Soarin, however, had no desk-mate beside him to speak to, but that was fine with him. He was beside the window, so he always had something to look at when things ever got too boring.
“Please give a warm Cloudsdale Elementary welcome to Rainbow Dash, who is moving here from across town,” the teacher said happily. The students gave a golf-like clap as the filly trotted in the room.
Soarin was paying no attention, but when he finally turned to look at who the new student was, his eyes opened wide. It was the mare in distress. It was young filly that intrigued him so much.
“Why don’t you sit at the back, Rainbow?” Ms. Sunwing asked kindly.
“Sure,” Rainbow Dash squeaked.
She happily trotted her way to the back, sitting on the empty seat at the same desk as Soarin. The colt instantly blushed, as now he had to do what he usually feared the most—actually talk to somepony.
The filly turned to him. “Hi, I’m Rainbow Dash,” she said cheerfully as the teacher began speaking.
Soarin blushed heavily. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
“What’s your name?” Dash asked.
He raised his hoof, but still no words.
“Can you talk at all?” Rainbow inquired, raising an eyebrow.
He nodded.
“So… What’s your name, then? Come on, don’t be shy!”
“Soarin,” he whispered.
“Sorry, didn’t quite get that,” Rainbow responded. Soarin’s eyes almost began to water as fear struck him. Not only was he deathly afraid of talking to ponies in general, but there was something about this one young filly in particular that made Soarin more nervous than usual.
“We all get nervous sometimes,” the filly said with a reassuring smile. “I won’t judge you. I just wanna know your name.”
“Soarin,” he said with a smile in return. It was, surprisingly, the loudest he had ever responded to a filly before.
“Soarin? That’s a cute name!” Rainbow replied. Soarin instantly put his chin on the desk and hid his face in a book, which caused Rainbow to chuckle loudly.
“Rainbow Dash and Soarin, is everything okay?” asked Ms. Sunwing, turning around as she heard the small laughter.
“Yes, Ms. Sunbeam,” Rainbow responded.
“Ms. Sunwing,” the teacher corrected with a smirk.
“Sorry,” Rainbow responded, cringing, which caused Soarin to smile. “I was just introducing myself to Soarin. I’ll be quiet.”
“Thank you. Now, where was I?” Ms. Sunwing continued as she went back to the board.
“You seem cool,” Rainbow whispered. “I’ll talk to you at recess.”
Soarin’s eyes widened as he looked at the filly, who gave another reassuring smirk. As Soarin looked forward towards the lesson his teacher was giving, he also had a small smile on his face.
The lessons went on for a little while. The subject for the first half of the morning was basic Equine history. But the subject that Soarin was really waiting for was morning recess. He watched the clock tick away as it approached ten-thirty.
As soon as the bell finally rang, all the students shouted joyfully and began to run for the door. Soarin began to dart, but stopped when he felt a hoof on his shoulder.
“Hey,” sounded the squeaky voice from behind him. “Why’re you in such a hurry?”
“Um, um, um,” he replied, stammering.
“Listen, Soarin,” Rainbow replied, “I know you’re shy, but you’re gonna have to learn how to talk to ponies eventually. I’m new here and don’t know anypony. I need to make some friends.”
Soarin gulped. “Y-you… you want m-me to be y-your f-friend?”
Rainbow’s mouth quivered as she tried not to chuckle at the colt. “Soarin, you’re adorable,” she said as she trotted around him, her tail lightly gliding across his face as she did so, turning his cheeks beet-red. “Of course I wanna be your friend! After all, if we’re gonna sit beside each other, it’s best we get to know each other a little more!”
“Uh...” Soarin stumbled. “O-o-okay.”
“Sweet!” Rainbow shouted. “Last one to the jungle gym is a smelly dragon!”
Rainbow dashed out like a bullet. Soarin smiled widely and closely followed suit. Ms. Sunwing was about to stop them from running, but didn't have the heart to. It was nice to see the quiet Soarin coming out of his shell. All it took was a new, energetic filly who forced him to talk to do the trick.
Rainbow looked lovingly into the eyes of Soarin as he moved a soft, warm wing around her back. “Oh yeah, I kinda remember my first day in that school now. I moved cause I didn't fit in at the last school. Still I was excited to be someplace new, and you were barely able to speak to anypony, let alone a sexy young filly like me,” she finished with a wide smirk towards Soarin as they continued to lay on the bed.
Soarin felt the love well in his inner core as he looked down at her. He shifted again as he continued to lay on top of the mare, feeling their bodies press together under the warmth of their own heat. Soarin smiled as he gently planted a kiss on his marefriend’s cheek. “And I’m thankful that you did force me to break out of my shell. Honestly, if it wasn’t for you, I don’t know what I would have done with my life. Seriously,” he finished with a doubtful expression as Dash let out a small giggle causing him to look back down, “you're so cute, you know that?”
Rainbow raised an eyebrow, she didn’t let anypony call her that, except Soarin. She leaned up and nuzzled him as she smiled, “Well, I’m awesome at everything aren't I?”
“That you are,” Soarin replied with a whisper, nuzzling back.
“Okay big boy,” she said with a small laugh, “ but that still doesn't answer my question. We’re not engaged, Soarin. You never proposed to me.”
“Oh,” Soarin said caressing the mare’s flank with his wing, “I think I did.”
Flashback
A few weeks passed since that first awkward day when Rainbow Dash moved to Cloudsdale Elementary School. The poor civilians of the fictional Maretropolis had been left without a hero, as Super Soarin had practically disappeared. He was too busy focusing on his new best friend to live in his lonely fantasy world.
Rainbow Dash and Soarin were nearly inseparable. Soarin was still very timid when it came to talking to most ponies, but the very outgoing Rainbow Dash was able to draw out the young colt’s inner emotions get him to actually express himself. It was the first time that he had a special friend who wasn’t imaginary, and he was able to help her feel accustomed to her move into a new place.
But on this one fateful day, things were about to change forever, even though the two young foals didn’t know it at the time. Soarin and Rainbow Dash just finished their lunch, meaning that they had half an hour to spend on the schoolyard outside. They were heading their way to Canterlot Castle, which had become their hangout spot as of late.
With the castle dead ahead, Rainbow Dash ears began to pick up laughs from a few familiar voices.
“Hey, Rainbow Crash,” yelled out one of them.
“Oh, uh, hey Hoops,” Rainbow Dash replied.
“Wanna play some hoofball with us?” Score asked.
“We need one more,” Dumb-Bell added.
Rainbow Dash looked to Soarin. Even though she wasn't particularly fond of those three other colts, as was Soarin, she absolutely loved hoofball.
“Sorry, Soarin. I’ll see you in class,” Rainbow said as she turned around, joining the many others who were playing hoofball.
Soarin, deflated and rejected, put his head down and made his way back to the tower of the castle, the place he was used to being when he was alone. That is where he stood, feeling left out, as he watched his one and only friend enjoy herself as she played her favourite sport with ponies whom Soarin could never embolden himself to talk to.
“Super Soarin stands on top of the tallest tower of Maretropolis, looking over the city, broken hearted,” he commentated as he rested his chin on the cloud parapet wall.
However, as he continued to watch Rainbow Dash play with the other foals, his inner commentary quickly changed from being about himself to being about her.
“Rainbow Dash takes the ball down the left wing. She holds it in the corner; three defenders on her. She passes it through the hind hoof of one defender to her teammate!” His quiet voice quickly livened up as the play built up. “Rainbow receives the pass back with only a defender and the goalkeeper to beat. She puts it through the defenders hooves! And now to the goalkeeper. She shoots! She scores!”
Soarin’s wings spread and he pumped his front hooves in the air as he watched Rainbow Dash celebrate by running around with the widest grin on her face as her teammates chased her.
The game went on as Soarin enjoyed watching. What started as sadness of the colt feeling left out actually turned into him being able to watch his friend enjoy herself, which in turn caused him great joy.
With only three minutes to go until the afternoon classes were to begin, Hoops had a breakaway. He had switched teams midway through the game because he was a bandwagon jumper. Rainbow Dash, however, was on her horse and was quickly catching up. Just as he wound up to take the shot, Rainbow Dash slid in for a tackle. Hoops fell over the filly as she took out his hind legs. He landed on her left wing as her momentum kept her body moving.
“Ow!” Rainbow screamed as Hoops laid on top of her wing. “Get off me, stupid!”
“It’s not my fault! You tackled me!” Hoops yelled back.
Soarin gasped at the sight, his best friend was clearly hurt. He could see the sadness in her face and It wasn’t just anger—it was pain.
Without even pretending to be Super Soarin, the colt muttered with hope, “Don’t worry, Rainbow Dash, I’m coming.”
As fast as he could, he slid down the slide, and ran through the field, over to where the crowd of a few fillies and colts were. By the time he got there, Hoops was already up, and actually had a look of concern on his face. Rainbow had her face covered and was sniffling softly. Her wing was outstretched and bent, many feathers missing.
Soarin bent down as close as he could get to Rainbow Dash’s ear. “Are you okay?”
“No,” Rainbow replied as she cried softly while facing the soft cloud ground.
“Is it your wing?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Want me to get a teacher?”
“Y-Yeah.”
“Hoops, you’re the one that hurt her,” Soarin said. “Go get Ms. Sunwing.
“But,” Hoops protested.
“Do it!” Soarin yelled, the loudest he had ever spoken to another pony. Most of the other ponies looked surprised at the quiet colt’s reaction. “She’s okay,” he said to the crowd in a leadership manner. “I’ll take care of her.”
All surprised that he was even talking to them at all, they fulfilled his wish and left them alone.
“How’s your wing?” Soarin asked again, but this time Rainbow’s sniffles and tears were much fewer.
“Still hurts a lot, but it’s a little better,” she replied, trying to smile a little bit.
Soarin hesitantly put his hoof around Rainbow’s neck and gently planted a kiss on her cheek.
“Wh-what was that for?” Rainbow asked, completely surprised.
“Whenever I get sad, my mom always gives me a kiss on the cheek, and it makes me feel better,” Soarin replied innocently.
Dash was silent for a moment before she spoke, “Thanks, Soar.”
Soarin felt a blush come to his cheeks, it was the first time Dash had used a nickname for him… and he loved it.
Ms. Sunwing came about a minute later. For precautionary reasons, Rainbow Dash was taken to the hospital by her teacher, her parents called to meet them there. Soarin was ordered to go back to class, where a substitute was due to take over for the rest of the day, but he refused. Soarin said that he had to be by his best friend’s side for the rest of the day to make sure that she felt better.
Inside the white walls of the hospital, Soarin clutched a small object in his front hooves as he seated himself on the rock-hard waiting room chair. He sat between his two parents, who were also called to come to visit the hospital.
After about an hour, Rainbow Dash was checked out by the doctors who announced she was ready for visitors.
Soarin went straight towards Rainbow Dash’s bedside while both of their parents got acquainted with one another.
“Hey,” Soarin said to his friend as she lay there.
“Hey,” Rainbow responded with a smile.
“How’s it going? Still sore?”
“Yeah. They said my wing is broken, but it will be able to heal in a little while. I will have to be here all week.”
Soarin’s ears fell flat at the statement. “Really?” he asked sadly. “So I have to be alone again at school?”
“Yeah,” Dash said feeling the colt’s sadness, “Sorry, Soar.”
Soarin raised an eyebrow, “Hey, since when did you start calling me Soar?”
Dash giggled slightly, “Come on, Soar, we’re good friends now. We can give each other nick names.”
Soarin felt blood rush to his cheeks. “All right. Can I call you... Dashie?”
“Dashie?” Rainbow pondered for a second, slowly a smile came to her face. “I like that,” she replied. Soarin grinned from ear to ear, but it started to falter as he remembered what he had behind his back. He felt his nerves rise as he spoke.
“I brought you gift. It’s not really that great, but I made it for you when I went on a hike this weekend with my parents, and—”
“I wanna see it!” Rainbow replied excitedly.
“Here,” Soarin said as he pulled out what he made.
“What is it?” Dash asked quizzically.
“It’s a ring. I made it out of sticks I found because you’re the first friend I’ve ever had, and you mean so much to me, and I don’t want you to be sad anymore,” Soarin said in his usual shy fashion.
Rainbow Dash had a lump in her throat. It had only been a few weeks since she met the quiet and timid Soarin, a colt almost afraid of his own shadow, who wouldn’t even say his own name to her. But now, here he was, offering up a token of their friendship, showing how much she meant to him. Dash slowly held out her hoof for Soarin to put the ring on.
Soarin smiled a little as he put the ring over her hoof. Rainbow sniffled, not out of sadness from being hurt, this time, but out of happiness from having found a special friend like none other.
Shaking with nerves, Rainbow Dash leaned over and returned Soarin’s earlier kiss with one on his cheek. “Thank you, Soar.”
“Super Soarin always helps those in need,” he replied with a blush.
Dash finished making out with Soarin, and as they parted she looked up with a curious expression. “So you remembered everything about that?” she asked.
Soarin nodded as he planted small kisses down the mare’s cheek. “I do. It’s a day I’ll never forget.”
Rainbow smiled up at her coltfriend. She loved how adorable yet confident he’d now become. Then, as if a lightbulb went off in her mind, Rainbow realized something. She looked up at Soarin with a smirk, “You ever wonder what happened with that ring?” she asked playfully.
Soarin pondered for a few moments before shaking his head. “I don’t. I could make another if you’d like,” he said in a whisper, kissing the tip of her muzzle in the sea of warmth the two bathed in.
Dash shifted, lifting her hoof over to the side of the bed. She flipped onto her belly as she rummaged around in the cloud table next to the bed. Soarin meanwhile began to gently massage his mare while she did so, leaving kisses up the back of her neck. She giggled as she continued to look, fighting off the stallion’s loving nips and nibbles.
“Aha!” Dash finally exclaimed, catching Soarin off guard. As she took out the old ring from a brown box she’d picked up, she flipped onto her back again, and Soarin got on top of her once more to observe the treasured item.
“I never thought you’d actually have kept it,” he said with shock.
Dash smirked, “Of course I did, I’m not the element of loyalty for nothing,” she replied.
Soarin smiled as he took the makeshift ring into his hooves, “Well then, see? We are engaged then. So, how about it? Let’s make those foals!”
“Soar, come on. A ring you gave me when we were foals doesn’t count as an engagement,” Rainbow said sternly, rolling her eyes at her coltfriend’s humor.
“It doesn’t count?” Soarin asked, taken back with a smirk forming on his lips. “Well then,” he said, turning around. Rainbow raised an eyebrow curiously as the stallion put a hoof underneath the bed they were laying on, "I was gonna do this afterwards, but since you want it beforehand," he explained taking out an item as he continued. “Does this count?” he asked, revealing a black jewelry box.
“Oh my Celestia,” Rainbow replied, looking him dead in the eyes, "Where did you get that?"
"A special tailor in Canterlot, I couldn't just give my mare a cheap one could I?" Soarin asked as Dash gasped a little in shock. Soarin smiled. “Rainbow Dash,” he started, opening the case, revealing a real hoof ring with sky blue diamonds encrusted into the surface.
“Oh my Celestia!” Rainbow said again, this time with her mouth wide open, her eyes exhibiting her joy with a few tears slipping down her face.
“Will you marry me? For real?” Soarin asked.
Rainbow was speechless for a moment. She looked at the beautifully crafted ring and then the stallion holding the box that beheld it.
“Please, baby,” Soarin asked, his smile showing the slightest bit of panic.
Before Soarin could reply, she grabbed the ring box, and put the ring around her right hoof. The sky blue diamonds reflected in the moonlight of the bedroom. It was not only a priceless treasure, but it also reflected Soarin’s love for her in every way he could and it almost brought more tears to her eyes.
The mare looked at the ring for a few moments longer, wanting to savor the moment of joy that was overflowing her mind and heart. She bit her lower lip from the excitement, looking over to Soarin, "Yes Soarin, I will," she replied, smirking mischievously. She put the ring box down beside the table next to the bed before leaping towards the stallion, her lips connecting with his in a moment of pure joy and love.
Soarin’s eyes were open at first, but the feeling, the experience only made him want to close them after he had wrapped his hooves around his fiancée. He accepted her kiss, locking his lips on hers. The kiss was unlike anything the pair had experienced previously together, their tongue's soft and warm. The two kept this for a while before switching positions a few times. But soon after, they broke off, Soarin still felt the wetness on his mouth while still longing to keep going. Dash held a smirk on her face as she looked to the stallion she loved before speaking, “So Soar,” she asked laying on the bed, ready for him, “You still wanna do this?”
Soarin didn’t wait another second…
The next few hours of the night passed by, the rising sun soon coming after it. Rainbow found herself slowly floating back into consciousness, the trickling light through cracks of the nearby curtains being enough to awaken her. Dash groaned slightly from the cold chill when her body shifted a little. She wanted more sleep, but her body wouldn't have it. She shifted again on the bed a little, snuggling closer to Soarin's warm fur, waking him with the contact.
"Morning baby," Soarin whispered, still half asleep. He moved a little, bringing a wing around her before planting a kiss on her cheek.
"Morning Soar," she started. "What time is it?"
"Too early," Soarin replied, nuzzling her cheek. Dash nuzzled back contently. That was good enough for her. She found herself drifting back to sleep, but before she could, Soarin spoke up again. "Do you..." Dash opened her eyes as Soarin stroked her mane and looked towards her stomach. "Do you think it happened?" he asked.
It only took a moment to process in her mind before Dash's eyes widened. "Oh my gosh," she said turning to Soarin as he smiled directly at her. She then remembered something else from the night before. She lifted up her left forehoof, but the ring was gone. She heard the stallion chuckling and glared at him. Soarin smiled and kissed her snout.
"It's on the bedside table, I didn't want to break it," he said with another giggle. Dash quickly moved out of the huddle to the side of the bed. She saw the ring sitting exactly where Soarin said it was, glimmering slightly in the light. She quickly put it back around her hoof and turned back to snuggle against Soarin. A few moments of silence passed before Dash finally answered his question.
"I dunno... I think... maybe?" she said with uncertainty as she glanced down at her abdomen. Soarin nuzzled her ear lovingly.
"Why don't you go check?" he suggested.
Dash whined and buried her muzzle into Soarin's chest. The stallion struggled to keep a laugh from escaping his mouth at the reaction, "You're meant to be all excited," he playfully chided.
"It's nice and warm here, shut up," she mumbled, shifting around a bit in the huddle. Soarin just shook his head in amusement before laying back down with her, leaving his forehoof to rest on her tummy. As the next few moments passed by things were peaceful, until Dash decided to think otherwise. "Actually, on second thought... I kinda need the bathroom anyways," she said, giving a small yawn.
"I like it when you do that, it's so cute," Soarin said as he turned to look at his fiancée.
Dash turned with an annoyed glance, but it quickly turned into a smug grin.
"Well, thanks for saying that Soar. If I am pregnant..." she reached up and bumped his nose with her hoof. "You're giving the foal it's first diaper change," she hopped off the bed and trotted over to the bathroom, leaving a dumbstruck Soarin on the bed. The door locking signaled the start of a silent period, giving Soarin's mind the chance to ponder the future. Many thoughts ran through his mind; did it happen? Would there be a problem? Was it just not meant to be?
He broke from his thoughts as the sound of the toilet flushing came from the bathroom. Dash burst through the door seconds later and galloped over to the side of the bed so she and Soarin could watch the results. The magically enchanted stick she held had a small color code attached to the side. If it was green they'd have a child and if it was red, then they'd have to try again. Seconds felt like minutes as the two watched with great anticipation.
Then... the stick turned the color of green.
The two ponies looked at each other in a moment of pure amazement. The two lovers, soon to be married, were now going to have a foal of their own to raise and care for. Dash didn't even blink before Soarin suddenly leaned down and began kissing her tummy. Dash giggled at the sight and the light tickling touch of his lips. "Soarin, what in all of Equestria?"
"Shhh," the stallion replied quietly before nuzzling the mare's belly again. "Daddy's here little one," he whispered to Dash's abdomen. "Whose the best foal ever, you are, yes you are."
"Okay," Dash rolled her eyes comically while pushing Soarin onto the bed. "I think our foal needs a little personal space," she replied with a grin. Soarin blushed slightly as Dash laid down on top of him. "Besides, we've still got another eleven months before you get to see it," she said while nuzzling his snout.
"And we'll be ready," Soarin affirmed happily as he brought a forehoof to the mares cheek. "Wont we?"
Dash smiled down at him before leaning in as the pair shared a loving kiss. Soarin smiled as he thought back on his previous talks with Dash, who knew that it would be the smallest little thing that started the biggest event in their lives... all because of the little Super Soarin... who saved his damsel in distress.
