Like Two Peas in a Pod

Twilight Sparkle was angry. She was magically throwing every single thing in her room away. Chairs, books, even her bed; thanks to unicorn magic she was creating a small tornado inside her bedroom. Spike was peeking through the door. He had already seen Twilight like this so he knew it was better to stay out of harm’s way. That didn’t meant he wasn’t worried. Just when he was about to cry at seeing her sister so distress, he felt a hoof placing on his shoulder. He turned around and smiled upon seeing Shining Armor, Twilight’s biological big brother and the pony that Spike admired the most.

“I can´t believe she completely ignored me!  “Those dusty old books”? How dare she?! ARRGH!”

“What´s the problem, sis? Did you find another typo in one of your books?” Shining asked while going in.

“NO! It´s something much worse than bad grammar! And for the last time, Y O U apostrophe R E means You are; Y O U R means Your!”

Shining rolled his eyes and gently placed his hoof on his sister´s back, calmly stroking her. This was something he had done since she was a foal. None of their parents were able to calm her when she was throwing a tantrum, only Shining had the “magical touch” as her mother called it, to calm down the frustrated librarian. Slowly, Twilight´s breathing began to slow down and the color returned to her face.

“Feeling better?”

Twilight slightly nodded.

“Okay now, can you explain me what´s going on?”

“I-“

“Slowly.”

Twilight nodded, cleared her throat and began. “I tried to warn Princess Celestia that the dreadful Mare in the Moon, Nightmare Moon, is returning. It´s been a thousand years since she was imprisoned and the day after tomorrow, the stars will release her. I wrote to the Princess, warning her about the danger, but she just ignored me just like- “Twilight backed away from his brother forelegs. “Just like the fillies at school used to. I thought the Princess was different. I thought she cared about me bu-but…”

“Calm down, Twilight.” And Shining gently hugged her. “I´m sure the Princess didn’t meant to hurt your feelings. She is probably worried because you have been working non-stop for the past two days. You need to rest a little, okay?”

Again, Twilight merely nodded.

“Hey, I want a proper promise, young lady!”

“Yes, I promise, big brother!”

“That´s better! Now I heard that Moondancer is having a party, why don’t you and Spike go there?”

“Bu-but what about Nightmare Moon?”

“Don´t worry, Twili! I´ll move a squadron of Royal Guards to Ponyville as reinforcements.”

“But-“

“Hey, don’t you trust in the word of the brad-new Captain of the Royal Guard?”

“Well…”

This actually offended Shining who raised an eyebrow in response.

“Huhu, of course I trust you, big dummy!”

“Okay then, let´s get you changed and I´ll escort you to the party!”

“Please Shining! I´m not a little foal! I can move around the city perfectly on my own!”

“Oh, is that so?” and he grabbed his sister and began to rub her head.

“Stop it! Stop it!”

“Come on, shrimp! Don´t need to be so gloomy all day! Go out and make some friends! You have to enjoy your life here in the Big Capital City! After all, it´s not like you´re leaving it tomorrow!”

“Actually…” Spike sheepishly peeked in. “I forgot to read the rest of the letter…”

The carriage waited in the balcony, two pegasus from the Royal Guard set to be the drivers. They saw the little dragon jumping in and tunred ot salute the Cpatian. He responded to the salute and focused his attention on his little sister. Twilight was looking devastated and surely felt that way. The letter from the Princess ordered her to move to Ponyville to supervise the Summer Sun Celebration and also, to make some friends. That last part was the most annoying of the task but the thing that really hurt Twilight was the fact she was being separated from her big brother, the only pony in the world she called her friend, the only one who had been always at her side, protecting her form bullies, helping her on her studies, sleeping with her during stormy nights; to her, Shining Armor was more than a friend, than a big brother…he was her whole world and now, it was being torn apart.

“Come on Twilight. You need to get leaving. Even in a pegasi carriage it’s a long trip to Ponyville.” He was unusually scant on his speech, like he was repeating a prepared speech.

“I don’t want to go.”

“Tough luck, young lady. It´s an order form the Princess herself.”

Twilight was on the verge of tears.

“You don’t even care, do you?”

“It´s not up to me. I´m the Captain of the Royal Guard, I can’t disob-“

“And I am your little sister! Don’t you care than I´m being taken away?”

Even the pegasi looked surprised at her reaction. Spike was about to cry again.

Still with that stern look on his face, Shining walked to Twilight and placed his hoof on her shoulder.

“Look at me.”

“I don’t want to…”

“Look at me, Twilight Sparkle.”

She looked up, her eyes covered in tears. Her brother still had the severe face of the Royal guard Captain but his eyes were soft and caring.

“I want you to promise me something, Twilight…”

“What?”

“That you´ll make some wonderful friends.”

“uh?”

“Listen, when I first got into the Royal Guard I was the rookie, the new guy, the doormat that everypony stomped on. If I made just one mistake my whole squadron had to pay so of course I was terrified of failing but I soon made some great friends, who helped me through my training, who took the fall with me if I failed and who never let my sided not matter how dangerous things got. Having friends is a wonderful thing, sister and I was beginning to fear that you´ll never know it. The Princess is giving you a wonderful opportunity, to finally make the friends that you so desperately need even if you don’t wan tot admit it. Twilight, my dearest little sister, please promise me that no matter how much we´re apart, how man days, even weeks we spent without seeing each other; that I can rest calm that you´ll b surround by wonderful friends.”

And Twilight wept her tears and nodded.

“I promise, big brother. I promise I´ll make some great friends.”

“I can´t wait to meet them. Now, go!”

Twilight moved into the carriage, still looking a bit hurt.

“Take good care of her.” Shining ordered the guards.

“Yes, sir!”

And they took off. Twilight slowly reached her hoof to Shining but he stood firmly looking at her fly way intot eh horizon.

One of the unicorn guards approached him.

“Sir…are you crying?”

“Yes, soldier. I am.”

“…very well, sir.”

And the soldiers left, leaving Shining to cry for her little sister. For years they have been like two peas in a pod, never apart. His little sister was his adoration, the most precious thing in the whole world but now she has finally grow and left his side. Shining was sure Twilight would be fine, that she will make some great friends and someday meet a fine stallion to marry but that didn’t meant it hurt any less.

Shining cried for hours, wondering when his sister will finally return.
