When Fluttershy was scared to tears by the dreaded "Phantom Pony" of Everfree Forest, she thought he was a monster, just like everypony said he was. But is it really true? I mean, no "Phantom Pony" would do something nice for anypony or anything, right? And he has been shown to perform an act of kindness.
Is Nocturne really evil? Or just a lonely pony who needs a friend?
Fluttershy isn't sure, but she can't turn away now. She's the Element of Kindness, after all. And one way or another, she's sure that all Nocturne needs is a little kindness to open up his heart.
This story is a sort of mid-quel to "The Gentle Dark", taking place after Nocturne and Fluttershy first meet, but before Nocturne comes out of the forest for the first time. At the request of some readers, it chronicles a week-long stretch in which Fluttershy makes repeated attempts to befriend Nocturne; therefore, it runs as its own separate story.
