Chapter 1: Prologue: Forgiving Spike

Prologue: Forgiving Spike

It had been a big day for Twilight Sparkle. Her brother, Shining Armour, had gotten married, the bride turned out to be a changeling, and the power of love saved the day. Twilight should be happy that she now has a sister-in-law, but something else was bothering her.

Why did I forgive them? She thought.

During the wedding preparations, Twilight was the only one to notice that something was wrong with the bride, Princess Cadance. Her friends just dismissed it as wedding stress. However, Twilight noticed that Cadance was evil when she saw her cast what looked like a mind control spell on Shining.

When Twilight tried to warn everyone about Cadance, everyone, including Princess Celestia herself, ruler of Equestria, bringer of the Sun, and Twilight’s mentor, just abandoned her, no questions asked, leaving the mage crushed.

Twilight then got banished to the Canterlot Caves by “Cadance”. There, she found the real Cadance, and tried to save Shining from the parasite imitating Cadance. The impostor revealed herself as Chrysalis, Queen of the Changelings. Twilight and her friends tried to retrieve the Elements of Harmony, but were captured by the Queen’s changelings.

Applejack, one of Twilight’s friends, apologised on behalf of the others for not believing Twilight. Even though the latter showed no hard feelings, something in the back of her mind told her not to forgive them after the way they treated her. But the lavender mare shrugged it off.

And the rest was history.

“Twilight?” a small voice peeped. Twilight broke out of her trance after recognising the voice of her Number 1 Assistant, Spike.

“Yes, Spike?” Twilight replied.

“Can I apologise about the wedding?” the purple dragon asked.

Oh no, not this again, Twilight thought. First her friend, then her mentor as an apology in disguise, and now her Number 1 Assistant? When will she get a break?! But of all of the ponies (and dragon) who abandoned Twilight at the rehearsal, the librarian noticed that Spike was the only one that didn't have a look of disappointment, but worry. What was he thinking?

“Okay Spike,” Twilight replied.

“You see, I didn't want to leave you hanging. I only left you because I thought I would be kicked out of the wedding, too. Can you ever forgive me?”

Twilight then pulled Spike in a motherly hug.

“Why wouldn't I?” she grinned. “You’re my Number 1 Assistant. Next time, think for yourself.” Spike returned the hug.

“Thank you, Twi,” he said. “What are you going to do about the others?”

“Don’t worry,” Twilight plotted in an unusually evil tone. “I have something planned for those pathetic little equines who call themselves my friends. They’re going to regret leaving me at the rehearsal. I will make them PAY!”
