Chapter 6: Celestia's Tale

Author's Note

I just recently found a prhoof reader (yes, that is a bad pun) but he hasn't been on all day and I'm anxious to get this story out there. So, besides wanting a pardon on any errors, I'm sending out a request for more prhoof readers. About 3 or 4 more would be nice. You can message me if your curious. Now, on with the story!

"Many, many years ago -more than I can remember- a great dragon by the name of Drake the Flame set about to rule Equestria. He was the most powerful dragon ever hatched. He set about conquering Equestria and did so, till I had had enough. With the six elements of harmony, I flew out to meet him and there I made my stand.

Drake the Flame was five hundred feet tall and, while he was extremely powerful, he was also extremely slow. That I used to my advantage.

I circled him non-stop, trying anything to put a dent in his scales. Nothing worked. Just as I was about to try a new tactic, he swatted me with his tail sending me flying right into a mountain. Stunned, I watched as the elements I where carrying fell into the open mouth of Drake the Flame. He licked his lips and, thinking he ha defeated me, lumbered off toward another part of Equestria.

Now this was the first time in my life I was actually scared. I had done something foolish and lost the elements of harmony, probably for good. I quickly winged my way back to Canterlot and gathered together a think-tank of the most impressive minds in Equestria. There was Albert Neighstien and Plhayto, among many others.

Together, we decided on creating a new element, one that was easily one hundred times more powerful than all the other elements combined. How to go about it was much more difficult than when I had first created the original six elements of harmony. Now, I had to fit the new element in without putting the balance of the world off-kilter. If I made the element too similar to one of the others, it would weaken that elements power. If one weakened, it would cause a chain reaction, weakening them all.

After many days of deliberating, we had come up with nothing. There didn't seem to be any element of power that wouldn't upset one of the others in some way.

About a week later, in the middle of the night, a deafening booming sound shook the castle. I awoke quickly, fearing the worst. Outside there was a thunderstorm raging like none other in the past few decades. Mighty thunderclaps and blinding flashes of lightning sent many of the ponies into a wild frenzy, dashing about willy-nilly. I rushed to the window and threw it open, jumping out into the heart of the storm. I dodged the lightning as I tried to calm the storm down. Looking around, I spotted about twenty other pegasi  out in the storm trying to control it. They where scattered all around, and without any leader, disorganized. I shouted at the top of my lungs trying to get there attention, but to no avail. The storm was too loud.

I felt a deep anger at the storm. Though the storm didn't start it. This anger and frustration had been brewing inside me since the failure of finding suitable a seventh element.

But also inside me I could feel a small warm spot, so deep within and so faint I barely felt it. I sighed, releasing the pent up anger inside giving more strength to that little spot of hope. I felt a sudden drop in my power which almost made me unconscious. Barely able to keep flying, I let myself drift down to Canterlot.

Looking down, I saw something that made my heart stop. There, sitting in front of me, was an element I had never seen before. It was a golden sphere about six inches in diameter and a soft warm glow. I knew what it was instantly: the element of unity.

Immediately, I set about using the element's power to help the weather ponies calm the storm. The unity among the weather ponies, which the element formed, was amazing. As one, they seemed to know where to fly and when to dash through a cloud, disintegrating it. After mere minutes, the storm was gone and a crisp clear full moon replaced it.

I thanked the ponies for their work, all the while starring at the new element. This was what I could use to defeat Drake! I quickly hid the element away, eager to show my find to the think-tank.

I quickly sent a page to each of the member's houses, waking them all for an urgent meeting. In less than an hour, all of them had been rounded up, many grumbling, into my meeting hall. When I showed them my find, their sleepiness and anger changed into that of exclamation and joy. We went about deciding on how to use the element's power to defeat Drake the Flame. Slowly, a plan started to form; one that would not fail.

I sent for the best gem-finding ponies in all of Equestria. Once they were gathered, I taught them all a gem-finding spell I myself invented. While they were out looking for gems, I asked the most skilled weavers in Canterlot to meet with me. I told them what they had planned, and as I expected, seemed a bit skeptical. They listened, though, and agreed to help.

So, two weeks later, everything was in place and I decided to set off and find Drake the Flame. After only days of searching, I found him munching on the side of a mountain as if it where a muffin. After rudely getting his attention, I led him back towards Canterlot to the trap we had set, all the while dodging his massive claws and tail.

Upon my return, a trumpet sounded, and then another. With a flash if light and a gold trail I dashed straight up. Drake almost caught me in his grasp but he was to slow. Beneath me, I saw Drake look up, maddened, and then looked down.

There, in front if him, lay the biggest mound of gems ever collected. It rose over one hundred feet, higher than many hills around. Drake smacked his lips and lumbered toward the pile, a gleam in his eyes. Once he reached the pile he started devouring the gems. To busy eating to notice, Drake was too late to see the net beneath his feet, or the hundred winged ponies that had risen from hiding to grab the net and trap Drake. With a roar, Drake was in the air, caught in the net upside down. He roared again and tried to breath fire but the net, which was woven with enchanted fire-proof string, stopped any fire from coming out. Shocked, Drake stared dumbly around, unsure if what to do.

Just then, I knew the time was right. I quickly conjured up the element from hiding and set about using it's power to retrieve the other six elements of harmony. With a yelp, the six elements flew out of the dragon's open mouth toward me. Gathered together, the elements gleamed in the sun. I then used their might, combined with the new element of unity, to reverse time around Drake the Flame. He quickly shrunk to that of a baby dragon, and even more quickly was hidden beneath the speckled green shell of an egg.

A cheer arose from all ponies gathered, and a feast was held in celebration of the event. After the feasting, I locked the elements away till they were needed again.

That need did not arise till Nightmare Moon awoke from her deep slumber. After that incident, I checked to see if all the elements where together. The only one missing was the element of unity. When I confronted Luna about it, she seemed shocked. She didn't know that there was a seventh element. I looked her in the eye and knew she was telling the truth.

Now after all these years, I finally came to a conclusion: The element if unity only shows itself in great times of need, when all other hope seems lost. Then, and only then, will the element show itself and light the way through the darkness.

Now that, little Derpy Hooves, is how the seventh element was formed. Now that you know what you must do. You must go, find the element of unity, and use it to stop this new evil I feel."
