Chapter 1: Very Fine

Very Fine

Twilight Sparkle was confused, very much so. Standing right before her, three times taller than her and as wide as a dragon was a weird machine composed of many many gears. At least, that's what her little quick scan said.

She knew she was a little hotheaded, but that was very stupid of her, or so she thought. To perform scans on a machine upon immediately seeing it? It could have been an enemy's machine which explodes when contacted with magic.

She didn't even bother to read the note earlier, she walked over to it now and grabbed it, reading it aloud.

To whoever is reading this.

We succeeded. We saved the dimension if you can read this. The Foundation has won.

Good for you, I guess. The following message was written with the help of a permament Memetic Agent. Please note that underlined words are an effect of the Memetic Agent.

Hello, dear pony, you are now in the possession of an amazing and dangerous if misused machine called SCP-914! Otherwise known as Clockworks, this machine has an almost infinite level of usefulness! But please, do not take it apart, you won't be able to assemble it and it will stop working. It is also unwise to use the machine on living beings. Even if the beings were once alive. The Foundation also advises you not to abuse the Very Fine and Rough options, it may end in a big death count! Without further ado, we wish you prosperity the Foundation couldn't afford for their own race!

Signed by Dr. Bright and O5-█

"Memetic Agent, the Foundation? What the buck is going on?" Twilight said to herself as she looked at the machine, it had two doors and a setting, which said Rough, Coarse, 1:1, Fine and Very Fine.

Curious, she grabbed the note and put it in the left door setting it to the Fine setting and snapped the crank.

The doors shut and the machine started humming and gently rocking. After a few seconds the doors opened, the left door was empty but out of the right door an origami swan started to "swim" on the wooden floor.

"Fascinating! I must tell Princess Celestia about this later!" shouted Twilight as she ran out of the room to grab something else to use on the machine.

Description: SCP-914 is a large clockwork device weighing several tons and covering an area of eighteen square meters, consisting of screw drives, belts, pulleys, gears, springs and other clockwork. It is incredibly complex, consisting of over eight million moving parts comprised mostly of tin and copper, with some wooden and cloth items observed. Observation and probing have showed no electronic assemblies or any form of power other than the “Mainspring” under the “Selection Panel”. Two large booths 3mx2.1mx2.1m (10ftx7ftx7ft) are connected via copper tubes to the main body of SCP-914, labeled “Intake” and “Output”. Between them is a copper panel with a large knob with a small arrow attached. The words Rough, Coarse, 1:1, Fine, and Very Fine are positioned at points around the knob. Below the knob is a large “key” that winds the “mainspring”.

When an object is placed in the Intake Booth, a door slides shut, and a small bell sounds. If the knob is turned to any position and the key wound up, SCP-914 will “refine” the object in the booth. No energy is lost in the process, and the object appears to be in stasis until the Output Booth door is opened. Intense observation and testing have not shown how SCP-914 accomplishes this, and no test object has ever been observed inside SCP-914 during the “refining” process. The process takes between five and ten minutes, depending on the size of the object being refined.

Addendum: Personnel above the Level 4 Clearance may access file SCP-914-Reclassification

Object Class: Safe Keter Thaumiel Shangdi

Did she go too far?

No, there is no such thing as too far in the name of science!

She came along with a huge amount of items, from simple forks and knives, through foods, to various gems and more. She put in an apple and set the machine to Very Fine.

And yet another item she can't understand, yet another dangerous magical artifact in the possession of Twilight Sparkle. While confusing to her, I may as well tell you that she just made the Apple of Eden.

"A very strong artifact, let's never experiment on it, a few billion units of magic more than the Elements of Harmony, a last-ditch effort if anything." said Twilight as he hid the apple under her throne.

Magic is simply - radioactivity.

"With this machine, Equestria can become unbeatable, all of the old evils not even close to standing a chance, even together!" said Twilight as she walked through her empty throne room, placing the box with the apple behind her throne in a chest that looked like a part of the throne.

After a few boring experiments including forks, plates, various materials she finally put in a diamond at a Very Fine setting.

Out came out a red crystal, when shot at with a projectile it didn't have even a single scratch. It emitted a great energy, surely able to power the entire Manehattan for about fifteen years! Would be a nice birthday gift for the mayor of Manehattan.

She placed a chunk of Orichalcum, the strongest metal known to Equis. In it goes on Very Fine! Wow, she sure was artifact happy today!

And out came a black metal, when she came closer, she started feeling very weak.

And on that day, Black Matter which could come into contact with normal matter was created. It was called "Nighmare Metal".

Or what it was known as in an alternate universe, as she destroyed it, she cut herself just touching the metal.

The cut didn't regenerate. Alicorns always regenerate ther injuries, lost limbs in the matter of a few seconds, there is no known way to permamently injure/kill an immortal, especially an alicorn.

"What the ████ was that?!" she shouted as she backed away from the machine.

She was scared. It was a simple scratch, but yet, it didn't regenerate. At all, all signs of regeneration gone, not even natural, equine resistance against damage.

She started casting every possible spell she knew, but nothing worked.

"Hmm... there is one more option." she said as she came in closer to the machine, she set it to Fine, pulled the key and quickly ran into the machine.

Far away, in another universe and timeline, Doctor Bright, one of the most important people in the entire Foundation, shuddered.
