Dog Deal

A tale of everyday life by Spectrum Shine

It was certainly a great afternoon, refreshing, peaceful and with no royal duties to attend to. Just like Princess Luna liked. The only bad thing was that Celestia could not join her on this excursion, but Luna could have expect that; her older sister was too busy preparing for the Grand Galloping Gala, but kindly gave Luna a small break. And Luna knew very well what she would do in that break. Something she did not have in many, many years… the special ice cream from Gellado, the best ice cream parlor of Canterlot.

For this reason, Luna was happily trotting through the streets, getting various nods and bows from other ponies, some saying “Princess” as they bowed their heads out of respect as she passed. She just returned them with a smile. Some curious ponies stared at her, as Luna was without real clothes, all she wore was a striped scarf that dangled carelessly in the wind and her mane was tied back in a ponytail. But that was not important right now, the most important was that Gellado was right there, literally on the corner.

         Huzzah!

Luna internally exclaimed upon seeing that place, so she steadily increased the speed of  her gentle trot so as to get to the end of the street faster.

Arriving at the ice cream shop, Luna entered optimistically, requesting her special ice cream and waiting for it to be served to her. And when it was ready, Luna could contain her wide, ear-to-ear smile. She’s practically drooling just by looking at it there. As soon as Luna paid, she strolled outside out of the place. She quickly searched around and found a nearby table and swiftly took a seat. There are some tables scattered in front of Gellado’s, with just a few ponies enjoying the afternoon. Luna relaxed back into her chair; she looked around the park that was situated directly across the street from Gellado’s with a huge smile, she turned her attention back to the ice cream in front of her and promptly levitated it with her magic, bringing it inches from her face.

However, before Luna could give the first lick and experience again why it was the best ice cream in all Equestria, a sudden bark stole her attention. She widened her eyes and after a few seconds,  she heard the sound of heavy breathing, raising her eyebrows she twisted slowly, still holding her precious ice cream, to see nothing but a dog. Actually it was a female, her fur all white, but she had a black spot around her eye that had a green color. She looked young, with yellow teeth and her eyes... Luna could say that those eyes smiled, but at the same time it seemed as though she were begging for something.

“What art thou begging for?” the female dog barked and Luna follwed her gaze up to Luna’s beloved ice cream, finally discovering what the dog was seeking, “No, thou… We mean… You will not eat my ice cream, now go away and have and play.”

The dog sat down with a thud, attracting Luna’s attention again, she had already turned away from the ice cream. She wagged her tail, looking up with eyes almost smiling. Luna watched as she tried to raise them, making the eyes shine trying to be cuter and attract Luna attention. At the beginning Luna almost relented, but then frowned while shaking her head.

“No, thou shall obey us… I mean me. Now sit down and don’t beg of anything, or I will demand to you go away!” Luna said in a rigid way, and then she, already with her mouth open and her tongue out, returned to the ice cream. As if she understood exactly what Luna meant, the dog just put her pointy ears back and stood up starting to cry. "All right, little dog, please do not cry... Do not cry!” Luna sighed, looked down at the ice cream that was already slightly melted. She took a spoon from the pot full of spoons that stood in the middle of the table and grabbed a piece of the special ice cream with the spoon, placing the piece of ice cream on the ground. “It is all yours, you can eat or lick, or… Do what dogs do with ice cream.”

Excitedly, the female dog lapped up at the food, getting down to lick at the floor. Then she looked up waiting for more. Luna turned and watched as she asked for more. And as before, she did not have the opportunity to lick even a portion of ice cream. “What did you want of us?!” Luna shouted, really angry with the animal. After weeks of work she just wanted to lie back and relax, but now that dog was here, disrupting her from her free time... Begging for food and... Wait a second, Luna thought as she watched the dog, where did she come from?

The dog had no collar and, judging by this, she had no home and no owner. She was a dog from the Canterlot streets. Poor thing, Luna thought as she lowered her head, sighing heavily. But when Luna turned to her canine companion, she was already retreating with her tail between her legs and crouched ears. The animal became frightened by Luna’s sudden scream to halt. Luna almost leapt out of her chair, following the dog, trotting quickly by the driveway to catch up to the female dog.

“My little friend, please, forgive my actions… I mean… Hey little and cute dog, come here!” Luna tried to get closer to the dog, still behind her. The tail of her canine companion began to sway and her pointy ears stood up in abrupt excitement. She turned towards Luna and let out a happy bark, walking forward a little and making a slight noise in the driveway’s stone. "Sorry dog, I am Princess Luna and do not want you to be afraid of me…” she said calmly smiling while looking at the dog’s wagging tail, “You are a dog from the street, am I right?”

The female dog just gave a bark.

“Well, it is already three o'clock… And my special ice cream, that is the best in all of  Equestria, is now melting… And you've been without food for days, am I right?” another bark was all the response Luna got, “Well, I do not think that I really need that special ice cream, so… Would my canine friend like some?”

Luna had seen happiness, but those green eyes seemed to radiate it. And Luna could not have been any happier.

“I think that is a yes,” Luna gave a small chuckle “here, for you…” she just put the ice cream on the floor, causing the female dog to lick it passionately. Luna sat and watched her, judging by the way the dog had taken to eating the ice cream, she seemed very hungry. Then the dog finished, with some ice cream leftover clinging around the edge of her mouth and snout. “Thou seem to like pistachio ice cream with chocolate flakes, no?”

The female dog gave a happy bark, sitting back and lifting a paw in the air.

Luna giggled a little, “And thou not have name, am I right?” another bark, “Well, I am going to call thou… Pistache,” Luna said stroking the dog with her hooves.

This time, the dog offered a paw. Luna smiled.

“Yes, you’re right, it has been a pleasure to meet you… Pistache,” she answered her canine companion, complimenting her, “Someday, I shall see thou for another ice cream,” Luna stroked the female dog some more. Then, she turned and walked away, all the while being watched intently by Pistache.

Luna did not get what she wanted, but she managed to do an act of kindness; and earned a friend. But she made a mental note that the next time she was even in an ice cream shop, she would take a ball. And then she would have peace and not have to deal with another dog…

Luna stopped thinking about it when she heard a happy bark.

She smiled. She doesn’t needed any ice cream, just time to relax. And this was the true peace. Then she returned to the castle, happy and full of new found vigour. Next Chapter: Dog Deal - Corean Version Estimated time remaining: 1 Minutes
