In the 28ᵗʰ century, humanity had advanced beyond its local star system, and founded various colonies on extrasolar planets. These simple colonies eventually consolidated into large interplanetary empires, not unlike the European colonial empires of old.

One colony ship crash-lands catastrophically on a previously-unsettled planet, and its lone survivor-- an Albanian soldier-- makes first contact with a previously unknown sapient extraterrestrial species.
